Dollar Car Rental

Car rental agency

šŸ˜  If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We had a reservation for a rental car, then when we arrived in Aruba, we (along with several others) were waiting outside in a line for 40 minutes, only to finally have a rep come out and tell us that they had no more cars!! We all had reservations!... People often mention Dollar, rental, told, service, time, reservation, waiting, arrived, airport, dollar,

When we arrived we were informed of the whopping $590 deposit! What!? Next they explain how the purchase of the $11 internet service is almost useless and attempt to get you to buy their $8 insurance to avoid having to get a police report along with thousands of other documents in the event you are in an accident. Next, we are taken to our what you might call a car. This beat up metal had torn, nasty smelling seats, roll down windows, ac vents that were broken and a busted radio. We dealt with it as we were not offered another choice. Once we returned the vehicle I informed management about removing this car from inventory especially when people are paying their hard earned money. He just smiled. I informed him again and he responded by telling me we could've come back in for another one. What! No sir, you should've offered me a better one the first time. I informed him I would right a review and he shrugged his shoulders. By this time my husband knew this would not end well and escorted me off the premises. Do your homework about this place. There are so many others to rent from

So be warnedā€¦ they are just like that Seinfeld episodeā€¦ they know how to take the reservation, but they donā€™t know how to HOLD the reservation; which is really the most important part of the reservation.

DO NOT ACCEPT THE OLD BLUE HYUNDAI!! (See the attached pictures). This car should be taken off their inventory and Dollar should be embarrassed to even have this dirty, rusty car as part of their fleet. The old blue Hyundai has many problems. When we received the car, we tried to be optimistic and easy going, after all we were on vacation... We didn't mind that the car was old or that it didn't even have automatic windows or that it had not been thoroughly cleaned, or that the alarm was tricky and went off every time the car was supposed to be unlocked, or that it didn't have Bluetooth and the AUX port kept playing 5 seconds of music and 5 seconds of random static noise. The car kept making an awful sound when there was even the slightest bump on the road, as if it were falling apart. It felt so unsafe that I was forced to sacrifice part of my time getting to know this beautiful island to go back to the rental agency and demand another car. To the agency's credit, the manager ended up giving us another car without much hesitation. My guess is that this car had been brought back before. Other than that, our experience with this agency was OK and the return process was quick and easy.

This location is right outside of the airport, there is another Dollar car rental inside the airport area around the other car rental right next door to each other. For some reason google doesn't have it pinpointed on the map. We rented a SUV, I believe they have no SUV's, we didn't get one nor did we see one in the lot. So don't waste your time trying to get a SUV. The car had like 80,000 miles on it, terrible suspension, dirty, and broke down old looking Hyundai, maybe 2015. Most of their lot was old Hyundai's not taken care of. When we came back to return the car no one was there, but the sign said open, it was 11am. The place is a one man shop.

Dollar car rental in Aruba is the WORST. I reserved an SUV two months prior to our trip. I walk in to get the SUV and I was told that even though I had a reservation with a confirmation number there was no available SUV. But they just so happened to know a guy who could rent us a 4x4 for 200.00 more. Worst bait and switch ever. This isnā€™t the US so I doubt pitching a fit would help. But I will never ever rent from them again anywhere in the world. #dollarcarrentalSUCKS Sheisters to the max.

Do not book with this unprofessional and rude company. We booked ahead and reserved a car, about a month in advance. When we arrived to our destination, not only was there no workers in the store but they left the store unlocked with both computer monitors also unlocked so theoretically anyone could have gone on the computers and gotten peoples information. we had to wait almost 30 minutes outside for the two women to show up. Then they proceed to act inconvenienced when we asked if they could help check us in and retrieve our car. THEN, the woman proceeded to let us know they had no cars available, despite our reservation. Instead of helping us or offering compensation, they brought a spokesman for a different local company and said he was the only one who had a car left, which happened to be 300 more than we were estimated, and we had to pay cashā€¦. Total scam the women were definitely in on this little game. 0/10 never again. Rude, slow, scammy and just annoying. However the man we rented from in the end was decent enough.

Should have listened to the reviews. Booked an SUV at Dollar 2 months prior on Expedia. Showed up with my family to find out they ā€œdidn't have a recordā€ of my booking. Took my deposit and then told me they didnā€™t have any SUVs left only small cars. Poor service and very unreliable. The charge is still on my credit card and we were left without a suv for the week as all the other rental places didnā€™t have them either. Will never book with them again and hope Expedia considers no longer partnering and promoting them.

I wish I could give this zero stars. The rudest customer service agents and when I arrived in Aruba, they wouldnā€™t honor my reservation I had made with a global booking third party site. They wanted to charge 900$ for a five day rental that I had already paid $240 for. This left us stranded without a car as most of the rental agencies are booked the day of.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME EVEN THINKING OF USING DOLLAR. I had the car set 3 months ago when I arrived I was told that there out of cars mind you I called the day before to add a car seat and it was "all set"... I had to wait an hour in the hot sun with a 1-year-old then (and I'm sure it's a scam) I was told by the Dollar rep that he can get me a car but with "another company" for $300 more!! At this point, I had no choice but to take it... I will be reaching out to the corporate office and the BBB. It was a horrible beginning to a vacation.

Wished i saw these reviews before booking for this place. I booked via chase travelā€¦ when i arrived for my reservation. I was told by the franchise owner of dollar rental that they do NOT accept chase travel reservations. He said I have to cancel with Chase travel and book directly with him for 4x the amount that i was originally quoted. Also the ā€œsuvā€ level/size is like a 1989 Honda Civic hatchback. I ended up canceling the reservation and using Alamo next door with a much better experience.

Take heed. DO NOT rent a car from Dollar Car rental in Aruba.I rented a car to be picked up on Christmas Day. Despite, having a written confirmation, upon arrival, the office was closed. The next day I contacted the office and asked them to bring the car to me but they couldnā€™t accommodate. I had to take another $35 cab ride to the airport and was refused reimbursement. Customer service was non existent and the attitude towards my inconvenience was uncaring and nonchalant. I was also told that I couldnā€™t add an additional (3rd) driver because my contract had already been written. Make it make sense. I have been renting cars on the island for years and this is the worst experience Iā€™ve had. Never say never, but I will NEVER rent from this location again. I also reached out to the corporate office and again received no assistance.

I rarely review rental car companies but I have to call out the great service I got from Dollar this week. The day we were leaving for the airport, the car had a dead battery. Obviously stressful as our plane was leaving in a couple of hours. Called Dollar and when they understood we were in a time crunch, rather than going through normal test this, test that . . . . they immediately sent someone to repair it. Within 15 mins they were at our hotel, replaced the battery (instead of jumping) and 10 mins later we were on our way to the airport.

Just returned from a trip to the island. Day after we arrived noticed we had a flat tire. Security at the hotel helped us put on the donut. Got back from grocery shopping and the donut was flat as well. What are the odds? Anyway called Dollar, within 30 mins they showed up with 2 tires. No hassle. No time lost dealing with the issue. Very good customer service.

Horrible! I booked and paid through Chase in April and upon arriving in July, they claimed to have our reservation. They charged us an additional $700+ upon drop-off. When I filed a claim with Chase, Dollar denies I ever picked up the car and that their charge was legit because I went to the wrong Dollar. There is a sign above the door saying Dollar, the paperwork says Dollar licensee, the credit card receipt says Dollar Rent-a-Car Airport, how would I know this wasnā€™t the airport Dollar?!?! Ridiculous scam. Our friends booked with Thrifty and had zero problems.

Don't usually write many reviews but seeing all the negative ratings felt to share my experience. We had missed our connecting flight and had to change our arrival day, called dollar the lady on the phone was very accommodating and changed our reservation and gave credit for unused day. When arrived just walking across the street to the counter and the car was ready . We had booked an economy due to last minute not realizing had two large pieces of luggage and 4 ppl. The service guy was amazing in not only helping us figure out way to make it work, but also helped in loading up the car (which I have never seen anywhere else). Most other places will try to upsell you to get more money out of you. Return was very quick and easy... overall great experience.

Rented 9/21/2019 - 9/28/2019 Please read and pay attention to the reviews. I should have. In most cases reviews are hit and miss and a lot of negative ones can be sometimes based on preferences. The only reason I went Dollar after reading the reviews was because some of the better companies were out of midsize cars as I waited last minute and wanted to pick it up at the airport and not have to shuttle. Big mistake!! The car was dirty and banged up and when we said something about the cleanliness we were told Aruba is a dusty island. We left the airport and drove straight t to a local market where we stopped in Oranjestad for about 1.5 hours. We then drove to our resort on Divi Beach. We checked in, took our bags to the room and I went to move the car to find it wouldnā€™t start. I finally was able to get a jump and let it run for 45 minutes. Moved the car and went back to the room to change to go out for dinner and it wouldnā€™t start. Long to short, I spent the next 3 hours on the phone trying to get assistance, was first told it would be the next day and asked if I needed the car for the night. Really! I rented for every night. Finally they brought another car to replace and was worse than the first. Dry rotted tires, holes and stains in the seat, wrapping tape attempting to hold the license plate light, and NO Gas. Needless to say my first night was wasted and didnā€™t get to go to dinner. Asked about not charging for the first night when the car was switched and when I returned and was told the same thing by two different people. Said when we rented the car for a week we got two nights free. And, they do that because of situations just like this. Never again from this company. The majority of people in Aruba are very friendly. I canā€™t say that about this company.

I had a wonderful experience with Dollar rental in November or 2019! And they are one of the only car rental agencies that still accept debit cards!! Car was great, employees were super nice and overall experience was wonderful!!!

Rented with them in March 2020, they charged me $590 deposit. It is May 2020 now and I still did not get my deposit back. Dollar Rent a Car customer support is useless as they say those guys did not close my rental. LOL! At least the do not think that I still have their car 2 months later here in New York) Some dude did not press a button and I cannot get my money back! But I have their receipt that I returned it! Do not rent from them!

Went to the dollar car rental at the airport. They only had two people working and yet they were so sweet to me. Were able to get me into a car even though I didn't have a reservation. The price was also really good. They do hold $500 for incidentals so just be aware of that. I think it's the Aruba policy because Thrifty does it too

I have return to miami of my cruise i have tent a mini van but when we arrive at the rental car center check in in the dollar booth they told me that they have a 2 hour waiting time for minivans, when a go down in the dollar pick floor and was a surprised that have alot of people waiting for anykind of car they 're people waiting fron 8 oclock i arrived at 9:40 in the morning, they have no car in the garageit was a hell down there i give my name to the counter so they put me in the waiting list for a minivan, wait more than 2 hours i go to the counter to see how many people are in front of us they told 2 in front of me, waiting and waiting i see three minivans have gone i when to the counter and ask them why are 3 minivans gone already and they told me they 're 2 in front of me then they told me because it was a family that have come from 9 oclock but they when upstairs and they turn have past already so they give them in front of me so i will be next, so that was all my pacience beacuse that turn that they give in front of me cost me abou 2,5 hours waiting for a minivan total 4,5 hours waiting for a minivan this is no joke and with my wife and 2 small sons and my father and mother in law, everybody that have come at the same time or first have gone the only ones that have stay waiting was us. 4,5 hours waiting for a minivan is not a joke and the staff are not profesionals very bad service tell them when we gonna get our van and they just turn around there faces and close the counter window in front of us, so dollar next time give a better service with your staff and get solution for that my time to get the van was 11 oclock i have arrive at 9:40 i have left the center at 2:30 that not a joke and not even sorry for the circumstances from the staff or a discount or something, very bad service dollar rental car.

Awful. Just awful. Had to take the car back 3 times. All 3 times there was something wrong with it. After the fourth car we just gave up and used it to try to salvage what was left of our time on the island not spent trying to get what we were promised.

Terrible rip off! First car was bad trunk didnā€™t open windows did work, tires were bald and they explained to me how to change a tire! Returned it for another car. This one was covered in dents and scratches. When I returned it they said one spot wasnā€™t marked and charged me for a door ding! Covered in damage and tired from flying I was expected to identify every dent..seriously there were like 20 spots marked! RIP OFF. AND RUINED WHAT OTHERWISE WAS A NICE ISLAND

Do not rent from them. Their customer service is nonexistent. We were supposed to have an suv reserved since it was 4 of us. As soon as we get there they tell us all of the suv's are rented out. They bring us a Hyundai accent, which we tried to make it work. Car was pretty beat up, seems like it has never been cleaned. It was in need of a tune up as it hesitated badly. There was a roach infestation inside. After discovering that day 1 we took it back and demanded another car. We received a kia and the worker tried to make us go to the gas station for a gallon of gas to get the Hyundai back to full, ridiculous. The kia was better but still had janky tires. I've used dollar in the US and had 0 issues but they are way below the standard in Aruba.

Terrible experience. Avoid at all cost. I was given a vehicle with almost 80000km. It had a faulty alarm system which continued to activate the kill switch, leaving us stranded. On top of ruining a lovely vacation, the staff was rude and condescending. For them it was my fault the alarm killed the starter. I am well aware of how to press unlock button on the remote. Finally, after taking a taxi to their office they gave me a functional car.
