Orpington GPO

Restaurant Bar and grill

👍 Well appointed restaurant in the lovely surroundings of the old Orpington Post Office. I was part of a large group when I visited and the experience may well be different in a smaller group. The staff were lovely and the service attentive yet respectful. The food was ok, but was a little under-seaso... Took a chance during July’s hot days trying this newish restaurant as it has a huge, airy, open table and lounge area. We were surprised at the quality of the Sunday roast. (The menu was limited to just pork, chicken and beef roasts - a good sign, not cluttered with things from a freezer.) The beef roast was rump but cooked just right and perfectly carved; something even pricey restaurants seem to get wrong. A lounge singer was happily stationed in one corner whose melodic voice was not over amplified. I’ve put this venue in the reliable category and have no reason to think it won’t stay that way.

Well appointed restaurant in the lovely surroundings of the old Orpington Post Office. I was part of a large group when I visited and the experience may well be different in a smaller group. The staff were lovely and the service attentive yet respectful. The food was ok, but was a little under-seasoned, but I appreciate catering for a large group. Most of us had roasts, which came with plenty of veg and potatoes on the side.

Came here for sunday lunch i didn't like it and didn't eat it my mum and partner ate most of theirs despite potatoes being a bit undercooked. Their customer service is fantastic the manager came and spoke to me and offered me anything i wanted and took my meal off the bill and did a discount on the other two meals. I would return as the restaurantis spotless and their customer service is impeccable.

Wonderful restaurant situated in the heart of the High Street. I visited at midday and it was a little quiet but soon picked up after half an hour. Quick service, with piping hot food presented.

Met a good friend here for lunch. Last time I was in Orpington this was the old Post Office and it's really good to see the old building repurposed as a good space. We were there for brunch and the restaurant was quiet. I enjoyed a full English Breakfast and my friends had a BLT, and avocado toast. We all had a glass of red wine. Friendly service, confortable chairs and it feels pleasantly removed the High Street.

We have been here a few times and went again on Sunday for a roast. Every time we go the food and drinks are really good and the service is super friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. We will be going again soon, keen to try wings Wednesday!

It's a lovely venue, thoughtfully designed with nice industrial touches. Seats are comfy and it's conveniently located in the centre of Orpington high-street with plenty of parking nearby. Entrance is wheelchair accessible and everything is clean. Staff were very pleasant and helpful - offering us some water as we sat down is a big plus (they didn't try to sell us bottled water). The food is a bit over-priced (£15 for burger and chips for example) ...but everything is these days. My only criticism - the burger patty was very dry. The other ingredients (roll, bacon, cheese, chutney) were lovely but the burger probably needs a higher fat content to keep it juicy. Chips were brilliant. My only other complaint (and happens all too often) is the difficulty in getting a bill and then paying. In the end I gave up and paid at the bar. The hospitality industry is really struggling at the moment with staffing post Brexit and I suspect this is the issue here.

Went to Orpington GPO for the first time for Sunday lunch. My friend only eats burger and chips which were not on the lunch menu but the kitchen were extremely obliging. I had the Beetroot Wellington. One of the best vegetarian/ meals I have had and did not expect such high quality in Orpington. The restrooms are spacious and clean. The staff are pleasant but not well trained. Had to walk to the bar to attract attention to be seated. Our finished meal was left on the table while the bill and card machine were brought to the table. There did not appear to be a Manager or senior waiter on the floor to oversee the restaurant. Given the length of the restaurant, staff clustering round the bar cannot monitor customers. I would definitely return for the food but, I hope, service improves.

We recently had a reservation for a group of 22 people, and I must say, everything went incredibly well, just as we had hoped. I want to give a special shoutout to Sam and Tom for taking care of all the arrangements, as well thank you to the lovely ladies who served the delicious food. And the guy at the bar who made some truly amazing cocktails/drinks for everyone! The food itself was exceptional, and the atmosphere was simply perfect – wonderfully beautiful and not too noisy, making it easy for us all to chat and thoroughly enjoy our evening.

Had a lovely time at Orpington GPO. Would highly recommend GPO cheeseburger with blue cheese. That was a treat to my taste buds. Cheesecake not sure of as the texture differed from what I'm used to. You will enjoy it if you like it sweet 😋 Drinks were great and customer service was outstanding.

The food is amazing and so is the atmosphere. Every time I have gone in there, it is always buzzing. The staff are very polite and helpful. I would highly recommend this place.

This bar is an excellent addition to Orpington high street, and a good alternative to Pato. But the cherry on top is the service, I have a dairy intolerance and it wasn't clear what I could order on the menu. A member of staff who's name I unfortunately did not take, made the effort to go through the menu and mark exactly what I could and couldn't eat and what alternatives they had. This level of service is unheard-of!

Good food, and brilliant staff, really friendly and helpful with an allergy in our group. Drinks were nice but a fairly expensive place to sit and drink in for an evening. Would go again though

Lovey meal, I had the GPO burger. They had so many gluten-free options, which was lovely to see. The atmosphere was vibrant at the same time welcoming for children at appropriate times. Service was promt which kind welcoming staff and cocktails were amazing.

I travelled down from Hull and needed to find somewhere the team could work. I called up in advance and Sam was more than happy to facilitate this at short notice. On arrival, we received a friendly welcoming from Sam who offered us an office room on the side of the venue which was really ideal for us. We received great and attentive care from the staff making it a nice experience for us throughout. We will most definitely be coming back if the team meet up in Orpington again. 5 stars all day.

It was my birthday meal and everything was perfect. The pork belly bites are like candy that is sticky and melts in your mouth at the same time. My friend has mushrooms on toast to start and they were yummy with the combo of shrooms and that sauce. We then both had burgers - she beef and me chicken and they were excellent. They were very accommodating she didn’t want the bacon on hers but I did. The fries were so good and stayed hot for a long time. I also had an Islay old-fashioned - heavenly. We didn’t have room for dessert but they brought us out a couple of brownie bites and the were divine. I would definitely eat here again.

Visited for a Sunday roast and had a great experience! Our waitress was lovely and made us feel really welcome. The food was delicious. Sadly they had run out of roast beef so I'd probably get there a bit earlier next time but the pork belly was soooo yummy! The meal also came with a super generous portion of veggies and gravy (which I almost always have to ask for more of but didn't here!!!)

Expected a nice experience however the Sunday lunch was a big disappointment. The beef was very very rare and extremely tough so tough I couldn't cut it. We spoke to "Jo" who admitted that they had issues with their meat supplies and also they had had other complaints the same day. It would have be appreciated if something had been taken off the bill but in all fairness "Jo" has said that when we next go to say her name and will be given a drink. The question is would we like to visit again on this experience I don't think so. A pity really as I have wanted to try this winebar.

The food here is amazing! I am usually not a fan of mushrooms but I absolutely loved the mushrooms on toast (on the dinner menu) which we had for starters. The cherry tomato bruchetta was also delicious! The chicken burger was lovely and it came with the best chips I've had in Orpington! And we all thought that the espresso martini is the best we've ever had! To top it all off, the vibe was great and we were offered the private dining room with TV in, to celebrate my birthday on match day. I really appreciated this, especially after ringing every pub and restaurant in town asking to make a last minute reservation and being told there's no availability. The food, the service, and the vibe really made for a great birthday celebration and also got a little birthday treat from the kitchen too! 🎂Thank you ❤️

Nice atmosphere, though maybe too modern and dimly lit for some. Food was a bit pricey for what it was, and weirdly everything seemed to have a smear of pesto on it. Friendly service too.

Decent venue (in and out) in a nice enough part of Orpington! We didn't really go for the food ...BUT the chips we had that night were proper!!🏆 Prices come like some up town London bar tho!! [Food & Drinks) 😲🤷🏻‍♂️ Pleasant, courteous and professional staff 💯 Felt like they needed more bar staff or quicker ones the night we went tho🤷🏻‍♂️ Can't really knock it! Try it, if your ever in the Ends!🤣🥂

As a fan of coffee, food and booze, I have to say the GPO is the best on the high street for all 3. The best flat white on the high street, great brunch and my personal favourite their burgers are awesome. Finally a great beer selection and their manager Jo literally makes an excellent espresso martini. There's a reason why i'm a regular. Highly recommend a visit.

Nice little gem. Had brunch on a Saturday. Food was good and prices not too bad. Staff was lovely. Will have to come back for drinks at some point.

Orpington GPO were more than kind to allow our local Cricket Club to Private Hire the whole venue for our end of season Annual Dinner and Dance. I can't say enough good things about the GPO! Firstly, a massive thank you to Jo for helping us to arrange the whole event, she literally couldn't have done enough for us. The staff on the evening were fantastic, plentiful, helpful and welcoming to everyone. The food on the evening was simply amazing, a variety of choice / options that kept everyone happy, the cheeseboards after the three course meal were also a lovely touch and really appreciated. There is a great choice behind the bar / drinks available, from good wine to great cocktails. The venue itself is really nice, spacious, well designed and more than enough space for our 80 attendees plus to eat, chat and party after the DJ got to work in the evening. I couldn't fault anything at all within the GPO from staff to food to drinks and would highly recommend this venue to anyone, for any occasion.
