I have made a formal complaint about the way David Lloyd acted in discriminatory and disrespectful way towards myself and my family. I have two sons who attend the nursery at your club in Sidcup, one of them is Autistic and has severe needs. In order to safely take them through the carpark I park at the disabled space. Unfortunately, one of your members has been stalking me every morning telling me of for parking there. I tried to explain to her that my son has a disability, but she would not budge. Today she became very aggressive and started to shout at me, she also called the duty manager who took her side, without any compassion to my situation. He also raised his voice at me, which made me feel attacked. Although I understand that we need to have a blue badge to park on the disabled bay, I also believe I have not just the right but the responsibility to keep my children safe. This duty should be also shared by David Lloyd club. On the other hand, the Manager shown no empathy, respect or professionalism towards myself and my family. I believe I was discriminated by this woman and David Lloyd. I will continue to park on the disabled bay as it is the safest way take my sons to the nursery and I do not wish to be verbally assaulted by anyone. I expect a minimum of empathy towards my special need son.

Prior to becoming members of David Lloyd, I was assured that my son who is autistic/has special needs would be more than welcome and that his needs would be accommodated. I also completed a C.I.D and listed all relevant information to the club including details that my son is non-verbal and has no awareness to danger. As expected, the first session didn’t go too well. It was quite overwhelming for my son and completely out of his usual routine. On arrival to his next session the staff member from last time rolled her eyes at us and walked over to her colleague and whispered something in his ear before coming over to me to say that if his behaviour was anything like last time he would not be welcome to any future sessions. This is DISCRIMINATION. Not only that, after 10 mins of dropping him off to his session an announcement was made asking me to collect my son from the activity den. As I was gathering my belongings together, I noticed my son wondering in the restaurant area unsupervised. It took over 5 minutes for the staff member from the activity to come to the restaurant lounge, she walked past me, saw my son playing in the soft play area and walked past me again without saying a word! Not even to inform me that he had escaped. Had someone approached my son to help him look for his parents he wouldn’t even be able to respond. I truly believe that my son attempted to leave the room on numerous occasions and eventually the members of staff just let him. I am absolutely disgusted, I have only been a member for a week and this has been our experience so far. I have emailed the club and head office to complain however I have not yet had a response not even an email of acknowledgment to confirm they have received it and investigating the matter. I would absolutely recommend against sending your children here especially if they have any special needs or requirements. There are major safeguarding issues and you would think for the price you pay they would be on top of everything. I am definitely cancelling my membership.

Overall a club that is deteriorating not only from lack of care and attention, to the facilities and members, but also poor management. We are supposed to be thankful for the huge investment in the club, that doesn’t touch the sides in what needs doing at the club. Studios have been painted and new stereos, but no new equipment, air con or flooring. The gym the star attraction of the club has no new equipment and no money spent on it. The outdoor pool that has not been touched since it was built. The locker room drainage, again ignored. But please be thankful for the new blaze studio and kids club rooms. No thought has been given or consideration to members and what they would actually like and use. Class timetable is being dissected and replaced with David Lloyd classes. That means that if you like actual proper classes, David Lloyd is not the place for you. I’m still waiting for management to get back to me, and it’s been over a month now!!! Not only me, but my mother in law has been waiting for a call from Silvie for 2 months regarding an issue in a class. Unfortunately to David Lloyd members are replaceable, and they forget that so are they!

Thanks so much to Gracie for showing my friend and I around, and despite only being employed for a week, she really knew her stuff and made us feel welcome. Thanks to Jaime for showing us the different membership levels and for showing my boyfriend around on a different day. All the information was really detailed and all our questions were answered. We joined as a family and are looking forward to attending. Your help and support in what was a smooth transaction was much appreciated thank you.

Very friendly staff excellent facilities. The kitchen seems to struggle at busy times but when the food comes it is of a good quality. Love the outdoor poo.

David Lloyd is happy to take your money, but has no customer service. The way the recent 'upgrade' (see Clare's 1 star review) has been managed followed by a max 9% price hike with no proper time to evaluate and cancel membership, is an absolutely disgusting way to treat existing members. Although just within their own rules, they have used every trick to make you pay as much as possible for as long as possible. I have not received any response since I complained about this 6 weeks ago. They just don't care. Gym facilities are mediocre, barely any early morning or late evening classes. The tennis courts are astro turf, not worth paying extra for. I have had enough of paying £157!!! a month (this membership does include 'free' towels and use of the tennis courts).

Sidcup David Lloyd is everything you’d dream of for a premium lifestyle gym club if the Chicago Bulls had just won their 3rd successive title & the year is 1993. The club is tired, worn and in sore need of development. Despite being the runt of the David Lloyd litter, it remains popular and over crowded. The pool during the summer makes the 07:45 Sidcup train to London bridge seem spacious and i don’t advise going for a late night swim for a cool down as the pool is funky with a film of sun cream ,dirt and no doubt urine to accompany you on your swim. Staff tend to see combatting pool cleanliness as a losing battle. i made the terrible choice of rejoining with my partner in June 2023 ( as a former member 3/4 years ago). The sales staff was great as you would expect and we discussed the long awaited rejuvenation of the Sidcup branch. It is NOW finally underway but sadly coinciding with my return which means my high membership fee has currently enjoyed both a dilapidated club and now construction ridden club. You would think a discount might be provided but instead you’re made to feel lucky that you will get to experience what is standard at other clubs and therefore must endure the time with a cheery demeanour. It seems despite being endlessly peppered with surveys no action is taken and i have resorted to this rather long review. The Induction PT was also a nightmare, forced to book the 3 free slots on the spot at times not convenient, i was then made to tour the gym which hasn’t changed in 20 years and then had conduct 1 min demos on the bike, a treadmill and elliptical as this was the process . Sadly no other process followed to share the training plan i’d wasted 30 mins discussing in a questionnaire. To add insult to injury this mandatory induction was not updated on the system so i could not gain entry to the gym without discussing at reception. I truly hope the rebuild of the gym brings it to standard but i don’t hold my breath (i witnessed the last pool fix) and i’m incredibly frustrated with the facilities (changing rooms / classes / layout) and overall quality of the experience. My timing clearly wasn’t great but i think the gym could have treated me and my partner better and offered something to compensate. Understandably; i think the staff (who are friendly in general) have given up a bit until the refurb and i appreciate managing some of these challenges may well lay with management and owners. The club has clearly generated huge revenues but has not reinvested and has therefore in my belief let its staff down also. It shows and i don’t see issues resolved or managed meaningfully. i have gone to other clubs (beckenham/ kidbrooke / dartford) and the difference is palpable. These are what one expects from a health club whereas Sidcup is a leisure centre. I would recommend making these your home club until the work is done. i will finish by saying the cafe and food is excellent but again the area could use a facelift! kind regards.

Happy to take your money but no consideration for your experience if it doesn’t suit them. Honestly the management team need a complete overhaul. Nicky was a brilliant class coordinator, always willing to listen and help and spent time with the members, and the assistant manager is lovely too, but everyone else would rather ignore you and the problems you raise rather than fix them and they only listen if you threaten to go higher than them! The new class coordinator ignores you and has pushed out some brilliant instructors, it’s disgusting, she’s certainly comfortable just ditching self employed individuals when they are the ones bringing in the goodwill to the club and then just cutting popular classes off the schedule without caring about the people who actually attend those classes. The new refurb is exciting but they have lost all the love of what made the club so great, THE MEMBERS! There is a brilliant community feel at the club but I couldn’t stay here any longer as I lost all faith in how it’s being run so if you want somewhere that will listen to you and make it a memorable experience for you, this isn’t the club for you, save your money and go somewhere else instead where they will value you.

Overall it's a decent gym but I don't think it's worth the extortionate monthly membership fee. The gym is always spotlessly clean and tidy and it's great for families. They do need more dumbbells in the 10kg - 20kg range. These are the most popular weights and only have one of each. Seems crazy. The WiFi is terrible and the bar always seems woefully understaffed. If there's more than 2 or 3 people waiting to be served you might as well forget it as you'll be waiting 15 minutes for a coffee.

A great gym, all the facilities you could ask for, plenty of space and the staff are fantastic. I recently got some advice on a workout from a new staff member Jhai / Jai (apologies if I got the spelling wrong) and Rachael was very friendly on our return to the gym

Great place to play tennis whether beginners or advanced players. Various club plays to suit all abilities. Private one to one and group coaching available with several coaches. Dan Stoner is head coach and also organises many fun tennis tournaments throughout the year. The tennis members are a very welcoming bunch of people.

This is a friendly health club, I like the set up of the gym and feel comfortable exercising on my own or with my 11 and 14 year olds here. The indoor pool is ok, the changing rooms have been colder than I’d have liked recently and the spa/steam room and sauna are basic. Needs an upgrade as other local clubs have decent spa facilities. Still it’s a great gym to have locally. And the outdoor pool is wonderful all year round (especially in the spring 👌🏽)

Signed up for a trial - As usual with health clubs, the sauna was far too busy with people coming in and out for only a few minutes. The steam room door was broken and I later found out it has been ongoing for two weeks. Is that how long it takes to replace a door? Overall it was very busy, there was no parking available close to the entrance, the restaurant was dirty/messy and the pool area was essentially an after school club that lasts late into the evening.

I’m a member here, have been for years now, the staff are nice and friendly. The kitchen has improved over the years, the club really does try to improve the menus and try new things. It’s clean and it is a good crowd that goes here, family friendly. My only problem is you really do have to book up in advanced for the classes as they do get very booked up quick, so sometimes I decide to go at the last minute and there are no spaces but other than that I like going here, even if it’s just to have some time to myself and grab a coffee.

We had an appointment this morning about potentially rejoining DL in Sidcup, we were greeted by Jaime (female) who was excellent, very informative and professional, but also down to earth, very easy to talk to. Decided to join and looking forward to our journey. Also spoke to Jamie (male) on the phone last week who was so friendly and also informative! Great team!

I like the atmosphere of David Lloyd Sidcup and I love training here. The gym equipment is great and there’s pretty much everything I need. Sometimes it’s quite hot in the gym, which isn’t great for when I’m running on the treadmill or cycling, but it hasn’t been too bad recently with the weather cooling down. The classes are good too, and I like the fact that most of the instructors offer variations to make things harder which is ideal. The pools are good, the only problem is the amount of lanes. Some days I come to the pool for a steady swim (around 45 minutes to an hour non stop) and there simply just aren’t enough lanes available. There is the slow Lane and the fast Lane (occasionally they add another) but the lanes fill up pretty quickly meaning that there isn’t enough room, especially with children playing in the pool at certain times. I definitely think the indoor pool should be made adults only more often as it is a fitness club at the end of the day. Other than that I love David Lloyd sidcup, it would be great if we could get the big towels like beckenham!!!

Really enjoying the classes at David Lloyd, Sidcup. My favourites are spin with Adam Roberts who always has a great playlist 👍 legs, bums and core with Lily Purchase is fab on a Friday morning. Dance fitness and Barre with Gavin Keenan is just brilliant fun can’t recommend enough 🤩 I would give the club 5 stars however it needs a bit of a make over!

  • 4/5 Z K. 1 year ago on Google
This is a comparison to certain other David Loyds places I’ve been to. It’s not as invested in. The spa area is very small and adjacent to the pool. The gym equipment looks like it’s ready for an uplift. However, people were friendly and hence I give it four stars.

  • 4/5 Wilford 'Floyd' W. 1 year ago on Google
I feel this place is a 4 star health centre, but charging a 5 star price... hence, slightly overpriced for what is currently available, e.g., jacuzzi/whirlpool currently not available (if that makes sense?) The sauna and steam by the pool area are both a decent size, both with above average temperatures and humidities. The shower unit between them did not have a functioning cold tap, but fortunately, the "hot" tap was lukewarm. The gym area, which was located on the first floor was well equipped, but if you were doing heavy sets of "dropping" the weights, due to the location of the weightlifting area, the receptionists would hear the noise AND feel the ceiling shaking above them!? All the staff I had interactions with seemed very helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating (especially Hayley). Overall, a good experience

Steam room and sauna are really nice. The gym and weights section are exactly what you could ask for. Lovely staff, are always happy to help and are so welcoming. The bar staff are incredible and even bring food & drink to the outside pool during the summer! Could spend all day here :)

Wow the gym was full to the brim today ! Awesome seeing so many there this bank holiday. Sarah’s body pump class today was brilliant! It’s my favourite class. I always used the machine before as I wasn’t confident in how to use a bar and weights. Between Nicky and Sarah I am gradually increasing my weights and strength. I love it ! Thank you ladies x

I'm not happy at all. I've made made calls and asked the same questions at the reception. No one gets back to us about our premium joint membership and errors made, that they all acknowledge. It was a disaster from the beginning. I guess now we're tied in to an annual contract. They don't care. It shows in the customer service or lack of. Its not enough to be lovely!

I do love it here, however I've noticed recently that the indoor pool temperature has been turned down, other members have said the same. If its been turned down due to heating costs then surely that should reflect in our membership price.

No where to lay down to relax, beds only outside in the cold! Not even enough chairs to sit by the Spa area, not Jet Water either on the Jacuzzi, my partner was not feeling very well and he had absolutely no where to lay down for some time. Really disappointed. Staff was very friendly, no chef on the day I visited, overall it was OK, but definitely wouldn't come back. Relaxing quality time is really important and was not available....

Clean, pleasant environment, helpful staff. In common with many David Lloyd clubs, a real lack of signs: the changing rooms are hidden away on the far side of the swimming pool, and you need to know which changing room is on which side.

Lots of positives. Ample parking, no time restrictions for members. Warm welcome on arrival. Everywhere looks clean and reasonably well maintained. There is an outside and an inside pool - both heated. There's also a jacuzzi and sauna. Furthermore there's extensive gym equipment. Lifeguards present for both inside and outside pools for the vast majority of the time and attentive (and present during children swimming times). The cafe area has a good selection of food and drinks (recommend the strawberry protein shake!) If I could commit more time to visit, I'd certainly be a long term member but it is expensive (and rightly so because of the standards they maintain) and so you need to visit regularly to get reasonable value for money. One end of the outside pool looks rather worn away in the brickwork and needs maintenance but I'm only finding minor flaws because of the price point! Overall I'd definitely recommend it, if it's within your price range and money isn't too much of an issue. Five stars overall.

So I have finally made it in to the gym these past few weeks and I am so glad I joined following a great and detailed tour given to me by one of the sales team Aycan. She definitely was right, it does not feel like a chore at all and she’s a real asset to David Lloyds, made me feel at ease with her down to earth and funny personality. Thanks David Lloyds. Note. I have lost 9lbs so far and what’s more is I get to have a relaxing Spa session after.

I think the management team over all at the club is good but there are still areas like the outdoor pool which badly need attention . Having been a loyal member for 23 yrs I feel that David Lloyd needs to focus equally on retaining old members as well as recruiting new .

To keep to my New Year's resolution, I went to view and sign up for David Lloyd in Sidcup. I spoke to a lovely woman named Beth who gave a great tour of the facility, discussed monthly prices and showed me the list of classes I could attend. As some one who's works with customers I was impressed by Beth’s ability to upsell me to a package I didn't know I wanted. Great service! They gym itself was clean, with great equipment. I now look forward to my gym days at David Lloyd.
