Local pub, happy for the refurb but very sadly completely let down by the service. Visited often and it doesn’t seem to get any better. Understandable when they reopened but plenty of time has since gone by to get staff trained up who seem to struggle with basic standards of service. Will still visit for drinks but sadly far better places to eat. Hope this helps - so much opportunity to improve.

We’ve been a handful of times for drinks and a Sunday roast since the refurb but the last few times have been horrible. Out of many items on the menu, service is very poor and slow, we were charged for items we ordered but never received and were charged for an additional bottle of wine we never ordered but the worst part was, the place was so over run by kids causing chaos. A pub is meant for adults trying to relax and enjoy themselves not for kids running circles around their table, hiding under other tables, playing hide and seek and tag and screaming at the top of their lungs. I wouldn’t bother paying that kind of money again to eat a meal in place which is essentially and childminders

Great place for a nice meal and a meet up with family or friends. Excellent service by the waiting staff who were on the ball with drinks and our lunch. Fantastic open kitchen presenting good food. Big, airy modern interior which was wonderful but today was raining and a bit cold so could have done with the radiator being on. However, we ladies had a lovely couple of hours drinking wine, eating great sandwiches because we didn't want a big meal and enjoyed the ambience of a fantastic restaurant/bar. We could have sat there for longer but we would have left there too tipsy to get the local bus service home. We will return.

Fantastic stay here. Food was sensational and the beer, cocktails and wine were spot on. The rooms are very stylish with the most comfiest bed. Can't wait to go back

We visited the pub for drinks and snacks. The loaded chips were easily the best we've ever had, and they were just as good at a second visit (but no longer on the menu in June 2023). Very pleasant sitting outside when the weather was better. Easy parking on the road, when it can be difficult at the two similar pubs/hotels locally.

I came here on my birthday for lunch The menu was limited for me because I am vegetarian. We waited over half an hour for the food even though it was relatively quiet, however what we had was very tasty and I would definitely come back.

Visited again post their cosmetic refresh. The capacity of the terrace has been maximised - no more pétanque. Heavily into food sales, but is does retain a proper bar area. The food is good, but somehow the menus disappoints. Staff are excellent. Dog friendly in all areas except the restaurant.

Lovely place. Had a school reunion here. The staff are lovely very helpful and great service. Food was wonderful and the breakfast is just the thing to set you up for the day. The rooms are kitted out very well. Lovely decor iron and hairdryer in room coffee pod machine and kettle choices of teas bottled water. Lovely experience would definately recommend weekend breaks away. Lots of resturants and coffee places just a short walk away.

We returned to The Crown for Sunday lunch and were very impressed. The attentive staff and food was outstanding and is worthy of my 5* rating. It was very busy which is a compliment to Mario and his team. We will definitely be going back as this is such a great family venue.

We came here Christmas Eve great atmosphere staff very friendly despite being busy. Great decor been refurbished recently. Food is normal pub food nothing special but fine. But really wanted to mention Sarah who was working that night so helpful with mine and my sisters allergies she checked everything and went to the bar to get our drinks as was busy, she is a lovely member of staff.

Very nice stay. Arrived about 6pm and the pub/resteraunt was very busy because of a match on tv but the staff were great and showed us straight to our room which was very nice and couldn't hear any noise. Went down later and got a lovely spot in the resteraunt straight away and the food was great. Breakfast next day was very good and all the staff were pleasant. Only drawback was the car park only holds 4 cars but on street parking right outside the pub was well lit and free. 5 stars will definitely stay again. Thankyou

I didn't use the hotel. I went as the pub as it had been refurbished to have lunch. Looks fantastic. Alot more staff around. Friendly, nice atmosphere Does come with a price tag though

Absolutely delightful one-night stay at The Crown. The rooms were beautifully decorated, creating a cosy ambiance. The facilities were impressively clean and inviting. The outstanding food and top-notch service truly stood out, making for a memorable experience. The staff's amazing hospitality added a special touch to the stay. Thank you

Similar to other reviews about the service. I booked a table for 7pm, and arrived early for a drink. At 7.05 we went to take our table in the almost empty restaurant to be told unapologetically the kitchen "had had to shut due to an emergency with some of their equipment". I strongly suspect those in the kitchen were hoping the 7pm booking was a no show and had already decided to clock off early. There was no apologies or courtesy given by any of the staff. We had a lovely meal instead at Due Amici down the road.

We have just spent two nights at The Crown as my daughter was getting married nearby. The rooms were clean and spotless and very well equipped with comfortable king-sized beds. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We dropped in for a quick meal on the way home, and it was a decent pub meal with a couple of minor issues (burger was a bit dry and the wholemeal bun got soggy but the whitebait were lovely). Service was friendly but a little haphazard. Will go back again.

Just a pub visit, a very nice place to have a drink. A nice bit of atmosphere but not too noisy. Been recently refurbished. Nice staff also

I would give this place 5 stars as a hotel, and also 5 stars as a pub. The food was great and reasonably priced. The breakfast was top class and worth getting out of bed for, even after a long day of sightseeing! Will definitely come back!

First visit for about three years. Menu changed a bit but something for everyone. Food was amazing, in fact, the best I've ever eaten there. Service was brilliant too! Only downside was a function in their function room that made it difficult to have a conversation due to the loud music.

Warm welcome on arrival by Becky never been before she took the trouble to show me round and tell me all I needed to know all staff friendly and lovely to be greeted with a smile etc Theresa another member of staff friendly polite and rarely these days.. took the time to talk to me to ask how things went when I put my husband to rest ..the reason for my visit ..that was so appreciated and unexpected. The food was well presented and lovely and nothing was too much trouble Pleasant surroundings in a lovely location room nicely laid out bed comfortable felt homely Would recommend.. will go again

Very disappointing Sunday roast. only lamb or beef on offer. No mint sauce, no horseradish sauce, they went out to buy some! Potatoes hard and undercooked. Vegetable very poor. Only one other table had guests, so no atmosphere in the restaurant. For a Sunday lunch at 12.30 the place was empty. Perhaps this shows it’s lack of popularity Did the usual‘British’ thing and didn’t complain at the time, but in hindsight I wish I had. Certainly won’t be going back there.

Very friendly staff, could not have been more helpfull. Relaxed in the garden with some drinks, kids happily played across the road climbing tree’s, where we could see them - awesome pub, very pleasant garden.

Stayed here whilst visiting family. We had a view of the Common and found it very peaceful. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the evening and had a super sleep in the sumptuous Super King size bed. Breakfast was very generous and tasty. All the staff we met were very professional and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely return.

Fantastic! We just spent two nights here and the staff were so nice, couldn't do enough and we were made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was lovely and the pub, although a bit quiet, had a nice selection of beers, real ales and cider. Dinner was also nice. If the bathrooms were a bit nicer, they were in no way bad, but a bit more modern, I would happily give 5 stars for everything. Thanks for a great stay and we would definitely stay again. 👌

    - Celebratory evening ruined - table booked at 8pm , waited ages for staff to give the dessert menu only to be told the kitchen shut at 9pm ! - Wasn’t told the long list of items no longer on the menu when it was handed out - After a long wait for the main meal , wine served with no glasses , appetisers after the starter then no dessert Needs a lot of improvement to return Was looking forward to the re vamp but a big let down

We stayed for a night and the overall experience was great. The Inn has a lovely bar and restaurant offering variety of drinks and food, and breakfast is included with your stay. They have limited parking space, however there are ample parking spaces on the street. I was very impressed with the cleanliness, and the amenities. Breakfast next morning was a delight and can say one of the best breakfast so far!!!!

Went last night for meal with friends. Bar area busy and adjacent restaurant area being used for live music which was very good. We were taken to a table in the nice function room adjacent to a large tabled garden area. Staff were excellent in every respect and food was perfect.

Could have been really good… We went on a Sunday for a birthday celebration. The roast was really nice, but we had to ask for everything - there was barely any gravy, so asked for more and he brought a tiny dish (there were 10 of us all having roast). Had to ask for more. Same with the horseradish, brought one tiny ramekin and had to ask for more. The service was adequate - they just didn’t come by often at all. Had to go to the bar for drinks, never checked to see how the food was and were slow when we made any requests. It’s all a shame because I would have gone back for the food.

Stayed for 2 nights. Would highly recommend! - Location: in a beautiful area near a forest, close to a bus stop but far away away enough from main road to be distracted by noise. Very tranquil even living on top of a pub, the locals in the pub were respectful to noise level. - Rooms: spacious, seems to have been refurbished recently, everything except bathroom felt new. Nice neutral colour scheme, good size double bed. The bedding was arranged really well with lots of extra layers and blankets available, not just a single sheet. - Bathroom surfaces seemed abit old or peeling through the wood. Otherwise nice size. Lots of shower essentials provided like shower cap and mini bottles. Thoughtful preparation. - Pub: much bigger than pictures shows. There is a separate dining area for hotel guests which is smart approach, can eat meals in peace at your own table. - Hygiene: overall satisfactory. However cleaning staff should put extra attention to disinfecting the remote, it was sticky, carpet, and hidden areas like under bed and corners. For example there was an old condom left behind on one corner. Easy to miss if you rush cleaning. - Food: breakfast was fantastic, cooked fresh when you order. Not buffet style but you can request extra dishes. Best breakfast service! The pub menu also has extensive options for lunch and dinner. Plus plenty of vegan options. - Staff: The manager that works in the mornings (has an epic beard) was kind and friendly. Final verdict: ☆ Staff service: 5/5 ☆ Food: 5/5 ☆ Hygiene: 3/5 ☆ Facilities: 4/5 ☆ Price: ££. Affordable

The refurbishment looks excellent - opening up the restaurant area to the outside patio works particularly well in the summer. Food is also very good we thought (great whitebait starter and a high quality fish & chips). Also a very good wine list. But service needs attention - a bit chaotic, although very friendly. And out of draught spitfire ale on 2 of my 3 post refurb visits so far (first visit no cask ale at all) which is very disappointing.

Nice venue, however staff not experienced enough to watch their customers to see who is waiting or next to be served. As an ex publican, it is vital to ensure customers don't get passed over, as this leads to dissatisfaction and customers don't return. ☹ One order for a hot drink was even forgotten about. Perhaps some staff training should be considered.

I stayed here for 10 days and it was extremely pleasant. The room was clean, warm and well appointed with fresh sheets and towels. The staff are wonderful, welcoming and always engaging with conversation, both the bar staff and in the restaurant too.The kitchen staff work hard to provide a varied menu that is all tasty. It is very good news that the whole place is being completely renovated this summer. This will only add to the charm, comfort and atmosphere. Well done to everyone, I will be back!
