Really nice Fortress with lots of history. Park your car in Drøbak and take the ferry that leaves every hour, the trip takes 5 minutes. Viewing the numerous canons and the castle makes for a good workout and nice views. Free indoor museum, watch the sinking of Blucher at the "cinema". There's a hotel and a café at the island for food or lodging. Excellent bathing place at the north point of the island. Watch out for the waves from the boats! ;)

A nice day trip away from Oslo. Easy accessible with boat (and not that expensive). Nice to just wander around and across the two small islands. Visit the fort and museums (although the museums could be a bit more exciting - missed more involving the actual fort). A few places to eat, and lots of nice places to have picknick. Recommended

Historical fortress, that made a big impact when Norway was attacked on the 9th of April 1940 by Nazi Germany. The fortress were able to sink the DKM Blucher, making that attacking force to turn, gaining the King and the Government time to escape.

This place is in the middle of the fjord with many nice views and a great historical experience. There's even an visual history of the 1940 battle. Take the ferry from Oslo to this fortress for about 120 DKR. The view is great the whole way!

Historical fortifications on small island outside Drøbak. Museum covering the history of the fortress, free entry. Huge guns that sank the German heavy cruiser Blücher during world war 2.

Old Fortress in the Oslo fjord. It's location is were the fjord is at it's thinnest. It was from thos location that Blucher was sunk on 9th of april 1940. Which then helped the royal family to get out of Norway. Great place to learn, very scenic. Also nice for the kids.

Very nice place to visit. We took the boat from Drøbak that takes about 6 minutes to reach the Island. The ticket costs 130 kr for adults and can be purchased from a ticket machine. Children will love place. The most exciting moment for me visiting Oscarsborg was in the museum when we saw a film about the history about the second world war and how this island defended Norway as much as they could. I really encourage you to see that. The only restaurant in the island was very full and unfortunately we could not find a table. This is the only negative experience I had. Plan a visit! You will like it for sure.

This place is so rich with history. I enjoyed it better than any other city museums. It has its own museum which is inside the fortress. You will find many doors that can be opened and on every corner there is something new you can discover. There’s even a quiz in underground tunnels, to test your knowledge about the battle that happened on this island. To get here you need to pay the ferry boat ticket, which is 110 nok both ways. The museum has free entry.

Visited 28th Aug and was not the best experience. First, you need to get a bus from Oslo (45min) to Drobak as the boat direct from Oslo does not run midweek even though the sign at the bock says otherwise. The small boat from Drobak was pleasant but didn't have any guides like the tourist sign said (ask for a map on the boat!!) The fortress had NO refreshments to buy, so take food/drink (we did not). There were 2 restaurants (like I had read), but both shut. The best part was a five minute basic movie explaining how the Blucher was sunk, but then, for us, it didn't go into enough detail. We were also disappointed that the display boards in the main museum were hit and miss with English translation some had it and some didn't. There is a guided tour you can do but again only peak and when at the fortress there is a sign saying you can book in advance for one (very helpful) so we didn't get to see the torpedo as this is with a guide only (from what we could gather)

Lovely trip from Oslo with public ferry. Guns, fortifications, bunkers, museum with free entrance, blooming meadow with friendly goats on it and hidden sjøbad on the smaller island. Spend there wonderful 3 hours.

Extremely cool fortress just outside Oslo. Take the ferry - it’s more than worth the trip.

The location gives and amazing experience! It is scenic, historical, tranquil and a bang for the buck. The hotel room lacked proper air ventilation and one would assume that the ferry cost to the island would be included.

A great place to visit with a rich history (probably get a guide to enjoy that) and all necessary amenities. Pretty chilled in some way.

Wonderful place to see and learn about history! My travel plans did not include this Fortress but I am so glad that it was recommended and I had the opportunity to see it. The animation of the Blutcher was extremely helpful getting a full understanding of what happened. I also had a great local guide that was filled with knowledge of the island. -Kentucky USA

Such an amazing experience! You can easily spend 3 hours without feeling the time. You can walk through the island and enjoy the nature. The Fortress is rich with history and stories.

Giving two stars for the very good food and the atmosphere. The rooms and the shower was cold and the shop had very few items which can be a concern as this is located on an island with ferryes not going to shore often. The parking is also limited, far away from the ferry and way too expensive compared to the quality. This place should really be of interest for military and historie interested people.

It's a cool island with a fort n museum to have a day out. Unfortunately they have a board that says u can't barbeque. U can take a ferry from akerbrygge- oscarborg. Or to drobak .

Very informative about the first hours of the invasion of Norway in April 1940. The delay provided by the sinking of Blücher allowed the government and the Royal family to flee the country and organize the resistance from England and the US.
