As a geographic feature, I find the Moses Lake Dunes fascinating. Most people think of the popular ORV area at the south end of Moses Lake. But I refer to a broad landscape that stretches across a big part of the Quincy Basin. The Potholes Reservoir Wildlife Area encompasses the best of it where it is not spoiled by farming or recreation. Prior to the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project this area had miles of active blow sand dunes. Vegetation and wildlife were sparse. Crab Creek flowed seasonally through it. It all changed with the filling of Potholes Reservoir circa 1950. Water backed up into the dunes creating a labyrinth of waterways, islands, and a perfect wetland habitat we all take for granted. Vegetation covers most of the dunes and wildlife thrives in the water, land, and air. I recently explored new places here as a winter hike and was not disappointed. I've also canoed miles of channels and felt like I was in the Everglades.

Love the huge playground, and the mudflats season is wicked.. between the sand dunes and mudflats, you can drive for days and not drive the same spot.. Pros: everything.. Cons: sand flies. Bring bug repellant and citronella candles or some peppermint spray..

Great for off road vehicles. A little loud and dusty for the average boondocker. Still plenty of level space and the lake is nearby.

Love this place for relaxing and fishing. The last time we were there (beginning of July) another group decided it would be fun to drink and shoot off rounds from their 22's in our direction. Needless to say, we quickly left! People please be responsible and courteous to others, you never know who is going through what in their life.

I went with my wife to the bottomless pit to enjoy a day of fun. Unfortunately my wife who is African and very happy going enjoyable person to be around felt extremely uncomfortable walking around with idiots flying the confederate flag. We as Americans should have moved beyond this point. I would like to go and take my family and friends. I hope next time the organizers can put up a ban on such a flag and promote family well being and stand up to controversial flags. I understand that everybody has a right to freedom and and the first and second amendments are key to our country's founding but lets move beyond this point.

The experience here was amazing. It was refreshing to be around a community that truly is willing to help one another. I had a lot of fun coming here and would go back again.

This place is so awesome! Used to camp out here back in the 80's ... well, more over by the pot holes ... Hubby & I were in our early 20's, & didn't have a camper yet, & we'd head out there to 'our area' & park, then just load up the babies, tent, & supplies into the canoe, & cart it or row it till we found the perfect spot & set up. We would fish, swim, & trek around by foot & canoe. IT WAS ALWAYS A WONDERFUL TIME, & AMAZINGLY ... IT WAS FREE! Now we have an RV, & it costs us a pretty penny to stay anywhere ... but unbelievably, It's still free at the Pot Holes & Sand Dunes!

Love this place! Love going for drives through here, and the 4th of July! The Sand Scorpions are also super cool and all I have came in contact with are really nice. Just remember, pack it in, pack it out!!! Don't be rude. There are dumpsters all over. There is no excuse for being lazy!!

I would give it a 3.5. The hills are small. Not very challenging for a good rider. Lake access is nice. They close a huge portion of the access from October to June. Meh. But you can still have fun there.

Would have given 5 stars if the bathrooms were maintained better but overall we love coming here for dirt bikes, quads, jeeps and camping! Most people are respectful and don't go speeding through the flat camping areas where kids and dogs are.
