Lol, me and 8 friends went for a meal late at night. The waitress was very impatient, I suppose she was having a bad day, which I can understand. However, when paying my bill, I tipped less than the usual 15%, but still tipped. She vocally responded with "thanks for the sh*t" tip. The manager approached our table and justified the waitresses actions by stating "waitresses make a portion of their income on tips, so it's important to tip". How can you possibly justify swearing at a paying customer with such nonsense reasoning? If that's true, pay your waitresses more instead of having them at the mercy of customers, especially if they are struggling. I am more disappointed in the management than I am the waitress. I can understand a waitress lacking direction and etiquette, but a manager with such poor justification and leadership? How do you guys even know if I have enough money to tip? Why lose customers over a 15% tip on one single bill? All of us live downtown and frequent Byward pubs, never had such a bad experience. Had our experience went well, we'd visit again and spend a total of $200+ there, repeatedly. This restaurant permanently lost 8 customers and all our extended recommendations thanks to ego and entitlement.

I was a Tourist from Vancouver BC, strolling Clarence Street, and picked the Heart & Crown for a PM lunch. The inside was classic, the outside patio perfect for the occasion and day. Our table was on the side and the unobstructed view to the street. The service, food and drink was as expected and better. The atmosphere was busy, young and happy with the establishment. We enjoyed our impromptu choice in the Byward Market area. The place met our expectations on so many fronts for a casual meal and a few beverages. We would do it again in a flash. 👌😁👍🙂🤙😎

The place atmosphere is what we were looking for! We had some beers and a pitch of Sangria, which was amazing! We didn't had food here but I would recommend for drinks.

It was okay. The price was a bit higher than I think it should be. $23 for Spicy Chicken Bag, and the chicken was cut up into nugget size. I was thinking thigh, leg or breast...so. a bit disappointed. Service was very good for our large party. I would go back again to see if other things tasted better.

First time being here and loved it! The staff were great, they were a little slow but they were training new waiters, and they were extremely friendly, which made up for it. The food was so good. The restaurant is huge, which I didn't realize. They have a couple of patios, which is nice. I look forward to going back. Plus, there's a parking garage right across the street, so that's handy.

Have had a good brunch there in the past, nothing special, but a decent, diner style brunch. This time was awful though. They have an infestation of wasps currently and my friend, Jay Ferguson, got stung. And the food was not good this time. The sausage in the English Breakfast was inedible: it must have been in their warming dish for 3 days, it was dry and rubbery, and I had to spit it out after one bite (same with my friend, Jay Ferguson, who tried it). All in all, the food was just not good. Will continue our search for a Stoneface Dolly’s replacement. #ripStonefaceDollys

Terrible food! First time my life I ever turned back meals when they were delivered. Absolute joke when the waitress just tried to drop off the two orders of Guinness stew which were simply two bowls of soup. She knew it was wrong but still try to pass it off to us and immediately took them away didn't charge us for him and then we got fish and chips instead which they comped. Even the fish and chips were soggy and not fully cooked. I was was surprised how bad it was for such a big establishment. Ben Cooper the live musician was fantastic but that was the only highlight. Also very pricey I would not go back

This review is to applaud Heart & Crown's participation of ByWard Market's "Byward Barket" event in 2019. Our dog JJ had a lunch with us in the patio of Heart & Crown. It was a great memories for all of us. JJ had left us in 2020, and the lunch with JJ in Heart & Crown became the last time we eat out together... Every time I walk by Heart & Crown in Byward Market, I think of JJ and the great times we spent together. Wish you are happy and peace in heaven, JJ.

Highly Recommend the Heart & Crown! We needed a venue for a business meeting and they had a private room with Big Screen TV. 5-Star: Service, Food, Drinks and Hospitality. We came back in the evening for Live Entertainment too.

This is a beautiful family run Irish pub which is well managed, clean and safe. This is the perfect place to bring your friends, family and business associates. At night, there is live music and dancing. Karaoke on Wednesdays!

The design and atmosphere is fantastic, five stars easily. Had a pint of Guinness that was pretty good but the Kilkenny was flat and with no flavor. Wanted to try the beef stew but they ran out. Had the Sheppard's pie. It was alright, 3 stars. Overall, waited for at least 45 minutes between when we were seated and until food was served. We came on a Saturday night but the place wasn't at full capacity so surprised a bit that the service wasn't 5 stars.. excellent reviews is what made us choose this place but with so many other options in Bayward matket would very unlikely be back.

Like many others have said, the staff is incredibly rude. Shocked this restaurant is still somehow in business. If you don’t want your day or night ruined by entitled and forwardly rude staff, avoid this restaurant like the plague.

Came here with girlfriends for Sunday brunch. We were able to get a streetside patio table. The wasps were rampant during our visit but the staff-bless them, did their best to subvert the pests. I had the big English breakfast and it was filling and good post-hangover. I couldn't even finish it all. I found the sausage on the dry side, but I appreciate the fresh fruit that accompanies the order. Staff were attentive and friendly. Popular with thr locals so try to reserve a table in advance.

Awful. Rude manager. Horrible, overpriced food. Came in for lunch and our shoes stuck to the floor because it was so filthy. Clearly sexist because all staff are female. Do not recommend. This place is living in the 50’s. Can’t understand how it’s still open.

I do love a good pub and this place was great! From the ambiance to the service to the food, it was a really enjoyable evening. I had the bangers and mash and cider, all delicious. My dinner companion said the Caesar was really good and she enjoyed the sliders. I may have to eat there tomorrow before we fly home!

I love this place. I’ve been here three times and all of those three times, I’ve definitely had a good time. The food is fantastic, although not many options for vegetarians (a little sad on that part) but that’s okay. Their wide variety of Beer options definitely compensate! ☺️♥️

A good pub that also serves decent food, but don’t come here just for the food. Lots of tap beers and Draught Guinness, of course, which is also pretty decent. Good whiskey selection.

The food at Heart & Crown is exceptional. Their menu presents a fantastic mix of traditional Irish fare and modern dishes. I thoroughly enjoyed their Shepherd's Pie, which was hearty and comfortingly nostalgic with rich flavors. Not to forget, their selection of beers is impressive, featuring both local craft brews and international favorites.

Heart and Crown is a local Irish pub that is dog friendly and offers cheap pitchers and pints. I ordered the Mango Mule mocktail which was delicious - sweet with a spicy after taste. I had the coconut & habenero chicken sliders as an appatizer. They are quite large for sliders, the habebero compote is not spicy but sweet which pairs well with the chicken (which is not too cool nutty but still delicious). For my main, I had the after school special with the tomato bisque. The sandwich wad delicious but there was too much of the potato and chive sauce. The bisque was delicious, creamy and smooth. The flavor profile of the two together were delicious. My friends mentioned their food was also delicious and were impressed by the quality of the food at a pub downtown.

If you enjoy decent food and drinks with live music, then this is a great place for evening hangout with friends. The artist that performed had a great voice too. The food was alright, I enjoyed the dumplings very much; however shepherds pie wasn’t as good as I expected. The drinks were pretty okie too

Great Irish pub! Not only was the food and beer great, but the service was top notch. Jason served me all night, and that has to be some of the best service I've received. He catered for all my requests. Not only that but the live music was amazing, very talented singer who brought a really good atmosphere into the place. I will be back!

If you aren’t much of a club person and prefer a nice pub for a night out, this is a place for both. This bar is massive and it has a lot of variety whether you want a nightclub experience or if you want to sit down at a pub. Their live music is great and the food is amazing.

Excellent fish and chips - some of the best fries I’ve had and love that they included coleslaw, tartar sauce and lemons in the takeout container. I also love that the fish and chips supports the Mealshare charity. Their managers were super nice over the phone accommodating us for takeout for exactly what we wanted.

Patio is very nice! Well spaced so it was easy to respect physical distancing. They have a great selection of beers on tap. I stuck to something local so don't know how clean they keep the lines of imports served less often. Great menu of classic Irish fare including lamb and stews. Definitely quite a few items I need to come back to try. I've had only the corned beef sandwich 👌

Every time I have been here the staff have been amazing, the food is delicious, and well priced for the quality. My only sadness is that they don't do breakfast on weekdays, and I'm personally not a fan of their gravy, as I like mine a bit more robust. However there are plenty of other menu items to choose from, and they have excellent specials often as well!

The staff is very friendly and the food is served very fast. I loved this restaurant. The place is very large and they can host a lot of people. In the summer there is service available at the terrace. I had the basil pesto sandwich and my mom the rib eye steak sandwich. We both had soups on top of the sandwiches, and they were simply amazing. All the food we had was very tasty and rich. I would definitely come back for a beer in the summer or for another lunch anytime soon. I would recommend to anyone visiting the city.

My girlfriend and I went to Lieutenant's Pump for breakfast, and enjoyed our meal. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, and quite enjoyed the flavor. I typically prefer my poached eggs done well, so while they were a bit runny, that was no fault of theirs because I forgot to ask when ordering. My girlfriend got the "Eggs any style", and was very pleased with her meal. The food was tasty, and the service was excellent. They had a lot of people working, but as it got busier we could see why. Despite dealing with a lot of people, we never went more than 3-5 minutes without someone checking in on coffee, how the food was, etc. This was not our first visit to the Pump, but as always, we came away impressed. Would certainly recommend it to anyone that was looking for good food and a welcoming, cozy atmosphere!

Had lunch at Heart & Crown ByWard on Sunday (August 15) with my daughter. We ordered the deep fried pickles, chicken curry and the snug club. We were told the kitchen was busy and we’d have about a 30 minute wait, said we weren’t in a hurry. Our server was super nice and attentive and the food was amazing. We really enjoyed our meal. They still have a limited menu while readjusting to being open after well…you know…but still some great choices. I would have liked a little Irish music…but that’s not a complaint…just a suggestion.

The Heart and Crown in the Byward market is a great Irish pub to go to on the weekend with friends to enjoy a few pints of beers and listen to local bands play. It is a great starting place for any pub crawl and a howl. That is before COVID-19, now it is closed and the once lively streets are silent. But hopefully the vaccines will help restore life back to normal soon. If you like my reviews then raise your beers high and just get back to having fun once again.

DISAPPOINTING. Experience is from Aug 28/21 approx 4pm. From the get-go, four of us waited after being seated for SEVERAL minutes, during a not busy time. We had to ask the hostess if a server was assigned to our table. Said server finally comes and as soon as ONE out of the four of our group orders a non-alcoholic beverage, she gave a ‘unimpressed’ response. I ordered soup, which was completely lacking any flavor, and since our server was nowhere to be found, we asked a hostess for salt. The hostess gave total attitude for interrupting her doing absolutely nothing. Immediately after getting the salt, the server magically appeared to ask us how things were. When a restaurant is trying to recover from lockdowns, you would think they would go out of their way to win future business and referrals. This has been our experience with the other restaurants in the Byward Market, and we have enjoyed our extended weekend stay. But not Heart and Crown. Will never come here again. Rude staff, and chinsy portions.

Delicious lunch, ordered the Chowder and Fish Tacos. Just a little pricey but I was happy to pay for the quality. The Cesar and Raspberry Mojito were very tasty as well.

26th December 2022 My new favourite place at ByWard. I went Downtown for the boxing day but as always we had to go first for a snack and a drink. It was my first time here but from now on will be my place when I come back to the area. Very nice service, food and beverage. Prices are very affordable!!!

Amazing hospitality from Jim and the staff. First rate selection of alcohol and the food was outstanding. A high point of our honeymoon. Great atmosphere and fantastic music playlist

Went here for a Christmas luncheon. We had the area in the back. Fast and great service for our group of 60. They had full staff both for serving and in the kitchen. I don't know when I last had such a good experience when out to eat with a large group. Our food was on the table before we knew it. Everyone thought the food was delicious. I had a seafood chowder and white wine sangria. Delicioso! Always a compliment to an establishment when there are no complaints. Apparently, there is live entertainment seven days a week. Friday and Saturday nights in the back area. Other days of the week, the groups of one to three performers set up in the front. My first time here, and I don't know why that is as I have lived in Ottawa for 35+ years. I will definitely return.

Went here with a friend from Ottawa. It was a nice pub. I had chicken wings. They were pretty good. Make sure to ask for them done crispy. Our bartender Jimmy was fabulous. Very friendly and personable.

Truly delicious pub food and drinks! Has the Irish pub atmosphere and great service. Happy we got the chance to check it out! (The fish and chips are a must)

During the tulip festival we accepted the 30mn delay for getting food while enjoying a drink. I had the fish and chips and although I’m not an expert, it was just acceptable, sauce was great, fries alright, but the fish came out flour-ish. I would not recommend this order.

If you like beer for acceptable price I suggest you visit that place. In my own opinion house brewed beer ,as usual, in Canada not so good, but premium craft and domestic is great

Kathleen at the back bar was so friendly and offered great recommendations on local beer and menu selections. The pierogis were outstanding with bacon jam, scallion crema and pickled onions. Best shepherd’s pie ever. Outstanding seafood chowder, beer and mixed drinks. Found no room for improvement.

Still one of our go too. Lots of space. Great during summer with large outdoor area. Standard pub foods. Staff were Amazon our last two visits.
