Pub Italia is one of Ottawa’s wonders. The murals are all hand painted, and they depict all the staff that have worked there. The decor is unique and very aesthetic. The food is great, but, the key identity of this bar is its Beer Bible. The assortment and collection is impeccable. I really enjoyed my visits to Pub Italia, I recommend everyone living or visiting Ottawa to stop by.

I’ve always really enjoyed my time at Pub Italia! The staff are friendly and the vibe is super chill and unique. I love the old timey/church feeling and decor. The beers are delicious and the food is regular pub food for the most part! I enjoyed the pizza!

This is a very unique place to go. It screams goddy and creepy. There are decorations EVERYWHERE! Most is religious, some is vintage signs and some beer related decor like Germany. Outdoors was more welcoming - inside was very dark and loud. They do have an extensive beer list they call the “beer bible”. It’s very impressive, I purchased the banana bread beer and it was very good. I dropped down the score to 3 stars due to two things. First the waitress was super aggressive - she came back every two minutes asking if we knew what we wanted to drink yet. The drink list is so large that we needed more than 3 minutes to read it over in the dark. She was very mad when we didn’t know what we wanted right away. The second reason was the food. We got pizza and pasta and they both tasted like a frozen pizza and frozen dinner pasta. The quality just wasn’t there. For a drinking spot this place is good but everything else it’s subpar.

The world needs more places like this unchained gemstone. Two words- BEER BIBLE. This place is AWESOME! Amazing atmosphere, amazing decor, super creative and fun, eye catching, and spectacular. Loved the covered patio area, felt like a real European Establishment (see video). We went with a fam of 4- one baby and one 4 yr old and sat outside. Had a high BBChair, but no plastic cups or kids menu (we didn’t care). Server was MIA several times but not enough to lower from 5 stars because of all the other awesomeness. Food was tasty (but if it was fresh Pasta it would be out of this world!). Meatballs were dope. Pesto pasta was bomb. (Those are both meaning “exceptionally good”). Loved it and will definitely return next time we visit the Capital.

Loved sitting in the Abby eating my great Aloha pizza with a refreshing pint of farmers daughter visiting with friends. Next time there I tried nachos and another farmers daughter. I really enjoyed them both. As usual staff was friendly. Parking was easy but could be a challenge depending on the weather (if there is too much snow) or at peak times.

The food was yummy and the coffee was A++. Nothing beats coffee from an Italian restaurant. The ambiance made you feel like you are in some cafe in Italy. We’ve come here before and it never disappoints. This time it was a lunch visit on a drizzly day. We sat in the atrium under an umbrella and stayed nice and dry. We love the decorations there. It’s a beautiful place to sit and look around and the wait staff are efficient and friendly. The food came quickly and my coffee cup was refilled a couple times. I’d recommend it for sure!

Great beer menu. Good selection of local and import drafts with a ton of bottle choices. The food was good, but not amazing. The spicy chicken bites were underwhelming, but the pasta was pretty good. The service and atmosphere were great though, and each seat felt like its own little isolated space.

The food is not the same. Clearly they have made cuts and perhaps changed their chef since 2020. The pizza, the dessert, used to the magnificent, and now it's low class pub style. Servers say that people just come for the beer now, the food is basically an add on. So sad to see the quality in food go down hill, this used to be our favourite place. Here is the photo of the cappuccino and latte my mom and I ordered last week. My mom was, ok which is which, where is the foam on my cappuccino? What a mess this place is now! Don't bother going unless you just want a beer.

This place has a very good draft list, and an extensive canned beer list. Both cover local craft and imported classics. The pizza is good. And the decor makes you feel like you are in church, except with beer and less guilt.

Best servers at this place: Stuff Chelsea Chelsea, steff are one of the best servers and I've come across! You'll definitely have an amazing drink and vibe here. Super helpful, nice, informative and help you decide on what the best drink is for the occasion. They serve non alcoholic too! This is the 2nd best place right after the ward. I highly recommend it as a casual place to go

First time at this pub. The food was only okay. We had a pizza, salad, garlic bread and fried chicken wraps. The pizza was good, the garlic bread was so hard that we couldn't eat it and there was barely any garlic flavor. The salad was average. NOTE : We found a thick long hair in our wrap!!! My partener was about to throw up. Conclusion: first and last time for us.

Beautiful décor like a church with a twist . Service was good . The food was good but there was a bitter taste in everything . The price was high one meet ball one calamari and one pizza and 2 drinks we paid 86 including tip . I would go back .

What a cool place, inside is like a big church, gotic style. They have a great variety of beers that my friends loves. We share some nachos that were good.nothing out of the world but were well served. Hope to next time I am in Ottawa we can return back.

Great food, fantastic service, super cool atmosphere. The patio is a bit loud but that's to be expected on a busy street. The beer selection is incredible! We'll be back.

Dante for lifer! Been a while since I stepped foot in Pub Italia. Having previously worked there for a summer back in 2016. My favourite meal to make for myself then and still now the Dante was a pleasure to savour again. Capital Running Club had our annual Dec dinner at this staple in Little Italy and a great time was had by all.

We went for dinner here and it was so good. Great atmosphere, lots to look at and unique to other places we've been. We were a little disappointed with where we were seated considering the place was only half full and there were lots of other options. Aside from that the server was great. She dropped in at the right times, caught the tone of our evening and let us just enjoy our stay. The food was amazing! We had the Gorgonzola and meatball pastas and the bruschetta. All of it was full of flavour and good portions. The menu is slightly limited but I don't mind that when they're putting our quality food. A great addition to our evening. We will return for sure.

Usually just pop in for a patio drink or two with friends but my first time eating here I was pleasantly surprised! Not sure why I waited so long to grab a bite! Will definitely be doing it more often as this is not your usual pub food!

If anything can be said that makes it the best it's that its selection hasn't waned very much over the decade I've been coming here. For such a massive beer bible, this is the place to be to tickle your palate with a wide array of brews. Though I didn't get food on my last visit, it is also amazing and well prepared, and well priced. If you're visiting Ottawa and love brews, this is the place to be on Preston!

I’ve been here a few times. Nice place with a great variety of beers and good customer service overall! If you could please ensure the bartender (Saturday, December 2, afternoon shift - not the one with the short blond hair; she is very nice ) to refrain from profiling customers on the basis of their accent.. very rude..! after 4 years n Canada, I believe this is the first time I left no tip. Please take my feedback in a constructive way!

  • 5/5 Luis B. 2 months ago on Google • 13 reviews New
Almost surrealistic, this place blends a very authenthic old church vibe, including saints and vitrals, with a profoundly pagan feeling that gets stronger after several beers. I strongly recommend to go on a tour, in your way to the toilet, to enjoy the place as it would be a museum. The music, eclectic, is played at a low volume which welcomes a warm environment for a great chat with friends. I haven't tried the food, so I would let others give you their advice.

  • 4/5 Jacob C. 2 years ago on Google
One of the best beer selections in Ottawa. With Covid their food however has gone a bit downhill and became overpriced. Would highly recommend going here to try new beers however on there awesome patio (there inside is also very fun and beer themed).

SUCH a great find!! So much fun there. Very intriguing. Food is marvelous. Drinks? I think they said over 200 beers. So great! Check out the store next door. Worth it.

Great ambiance, probably the best patio on Preston, go have a drink but do avoid anything with pasta. My pasta was surprisingly bad, I won't call those overcooked maybe reheated paste pasta, how could a place with italia in the name doesn't know who to cook pasta?

  • 5/5 Scott M. 2 years ago on Google
Very cool pub. The decor is nothing I've ever experienced. The food was delicious, if not a little in the expensive side. Server was tremendous and had an excellent memory.

Came here for late night snacks. Atmosphere is excellent. We loved the unique decoration and theme of the place. They have a beer bible with an emormous selection of beer. Chicken Nachos were very underwhelming, and would not recommend. Service was good.

Always been one of my favorite restaurants. Beautiful decor, wonderful ambiance, friendly service, delicious food. No matter where you sit, you feel like you're in a beautiful Italian Church.. and the "Beer Bible" is amazing. Get an order of calamari, a Fungi pizza and the "Forbidden Fruit".. you won't regret it.

Haven’t been here as often as I should. Where else can you try hundreds (yes, hundreds!) of beers!! Their Beer Bible is a sight to behold. I tried a smoked marzen. Freaking awesome! My wife had a delicious strawberry white by Fruli. And can’t forget to mention their amazing traditional thin crust pizza (Momma Mia) and unique house salad! (Sorry, forgot to snap pics of the food)

Always a favourite when on Preston Street. A vast beer selection and decent food. Definitely, the right place to pay tribute to Saint Augustine of Hippo.

  • 3/5 Emelina M. 1 year ago on Google
This is not a bad pub at all. I didn't find the food underwhelming as some reviewers described it, it was good but not absolutely amazing or special. There were a lot of beers options but I opted for a Shirley Temple. We ordered the chicken nachos and the Margherita pizza. The nachos were nice and the pizza was good especially the crust but I didn't like the huge amount of diced tomatoes. The service was good and though it can feel a little crammed, the decor and design of the pub was unique.

  • 3/5 Urvashi L. 1 year ago on Google
The interior is really great, funky and cosy. One should really take a tour around. They have lots of options for drinks. Being vegetarian, we ordered ---- The taste of garlic bread with cheese was super bland and nachos lacked enough toppings.( 2.5/5) We ordered Margherita and Dante pizza as far as i recall. Margherita was not what we usually eat in a good Italian restaurant. It had chopped tomatoes on top which was odd for me. Although the Dante pizza was great especially the goat cheese was a treat.(3.2/5) For drinks we ordered sangrias and they were pretty good. Lastly, Since it was my BIRTHDAY, I asked the waitress if they offer anything special for birthday on the house and she said she'll put a candle on top and bring me any choice of dessert that i pick. She charged me for that on my bill because she thought she made it very clear we were paying for it and it wasn't on house which i blame it on miscommunication otherwise the service was excellent except THEY BROUGHT ALL THE FOOD OUT TOGETHER WHICH MADE IT COLD AND DIFFICULT TO EAT AS THE PIZZAS FELT VERY CHEWY AFTER THEY WENT COLD UNTIL WE FINISH THE APPETIZERS. For my overall experience, I will rate 3/5.

Not sure why this place is called "Italia" when it's basically a german beer hall. In any case, still go to pour some beer down your throat. Go enable that alcoholism that is somehow socially acceptable in our society. Great beers and prices. Good patio and large area to hang with friends.

  • 5/5 Candice B. 3 years ago on Google
pub italia is my favourite bar in Ottawa. I love the decor, taken from old churches and they added their own twist. Beer menu is longer than any I've ever seen. There's something for everyone for sure!

  • 2/5 Dion C. 3 years ago on Google
Pub Italia is firmly mediocre. As far as the famous beer selection goes, there wasn't as much variety as I was hoping for, particularly in their draft beers. Recognizing that this is COVID times, I can accept that this might be a bit out of the ordinary. As others have mentioned though, the food really wasn't great. Mussels were overcooked, and the sauce was rather bland. It's a unique enough space though, so worth visiting if just for the decor.

  • 3/5 Mitchell S. 3 years ago on Google
Unique decor with friendly staff. This place is good if you want to go for a few drinks and try some new beers. I wouldn't recommend eating here; for example, I asked my server if the pasta was fresh and she said it all comes in frozen. I expected more seeing as it's in little Italy. Lastly, the service was slow; not ideal waiting a long time with an empty glass.

  • 5/5 ginny O. 3 years ago on Google

  • 5/5 Bernard C. 3 years ago on Google
They have an amazing selection of beers, more than any other pub that I've seen in Ottawa. But due to Covid-19, the selection was much smaller. Food is pretty good, although this time I was over with coworkers for just a few beers.

  • 5/5 Jorge G. 3 years ago on Google
I just had a beer, but the menu looks delicious and the place is cozy and cool. I loved the irreverent style on the decoration. The staff is very nice and polite. Definitely a "must go" in Ottawa.

The venue is nice and cosy, but I wouldn't say I enjoyed the food. Shrimp Gratin appetizer has only 6 shrimps, I think that should be specified on the menu, because for $14 I expected a bigger portion.

  • 4/5 Roberto C. 3 years ago on Google
Excellent selection of tasty beers. Unfortunately mine had some black bits floating on the top. The server was very nice when I pointed it out. Their food isn't great, but I mostly go for the beer.

Pub Italia is located at 434 Preston st in the heart of little Italy. Pub Italia has a fantastic selection of 36 types of draft and 200 different types of bottled beer and wine from all over the world. There is ample patio seating during the warm days where it is nice to soak in the atmosphere of this lively part of Ottawa pass by. This medival / monastery style pub has so much to offer from both the inside and out, even if you don't drink alcohol I recommend that you go inside and enjoy a meal and spend some time there.
