I likely wouldn't choose this place again. The pub itself is divided into a couple of different sections where you can have a sit-down meal and watch non-sports, sit at the bar, or sit in an area close to live music with TVs that have sports on. I didn't like the burger and fries. With a beer it came to ~$24. I'm not sure if it was just the time of day we went, but the burger was very dry and the fries are carbon copy of McDonald's, and unfortunately I'm not a fan of shoestring. We also had interesting service that I really didn't understand. It seems like at a certain point in the night, all daily specials cease to apply, even though the menus we received had paper inserts with specials. These weren't happy hour specials, they were daily and I just was a bit confused why they wouldn't either make it a happy hour, take the special paper insert out of the menu, or honour the specials on the menu. "Everyday is special at Deacon's", just not when we were there. All in all, I've had far better experiences at other restaurants, and better food from fast food chains. Beer was cold at least.

They should be ashamed of themselves to call their Fish and Chips “Scottish”. I've been to Scotland and England and this comes nowhere close. First of all the chips. They are very skinny, almost like McDonald's fries. Real Scottish or British chips are thick sliced potatoes. Now even if they were skinny but taste good it would be fine but unfortunately they just don't taste good. Secondly, they served the Fish and Chips with some weird coleslaw. I have never been served Fish and Chips with coleslaw before. I'm not sure if this is a substitution for mushy peas but it is a very odd choice. Finally comes the fish. The fish batter is greasy and flavorless. It honestly reminds me of something I could buy out of a frozen box. I know this is a very harsh review but I just want the quality of food to improve in Ottawa. Places like this shouldn't be getting away with such high reviews when In reality the food is below average.

I don’t have much to complain about in general but I literally just had one of the most disappointing service experiences in recent memory here. It took about half an hour for the third person who saw us to take our order (two drinks and one plate of nachos for two people) and then nearly an hour to get our bills (in the middle of this hour I went up to ask for it) after waving down one of the other servers. It didn’t seem particularly busy but our server seemed to have been chatting a lot to what appeared to be an off-duty co-worker at the bar. We passed this sign on the way out. I wonder why they needed to post it… I am sure we would have gotten noticed earlier had we walked out (and had the cops called on us).

I have frequented this establishment on many occasions but now I have been here twice and both times were horrible. I have to give it a bad review. I really wanted to give this place another chance. To start I would say the service was excellent both times however the food is inedible. The fries were awful, the relish was so old it was stale, and there were bones in the curry. As a pub you should be able to cook one thing at least, fries but these were so undercooked, from the freezer, and after two minutes were soggy. When we let our lovely server know she kindly, without promoting, asked to have some of our meal comped and she would ask the owner. Surprise, he said no. I get that times are hard but I'm never going back to this place if this is how the food is going to be and how the owner treats his customers. I will be taking my business to any other establishment.

They have daily specials. Thursday after 9 pm 1/2 on drinks. Really cheap considering. Oak wood finish … typical Scottish pub design and flare Live music between 9 pm - 1 am as well. Many large screens broadcasting sports. Very loud ambiance but if you don’t mind shouting ….. great! Friendly and swift service.

I was looking around for a bar with a solid whisky selection and I absolutely found it at Deacon Brodies. One of the best selections of scotch I’ve seen anywhere, solid pub food, and beer selection was varied as well. I ordered several different whiskys to try and with them, they printed off tickets with tasting notes on each of them. This was a super cool surprise when one of my flights was delivered and definitely added to the experience. Bar service was fast and incredibly friendly.

My wife and I were looking for a dog-friendly patio for dinner. While we were quite familiar with its now-closed sister pub (Highlander), we had never been to Deacon Brodies. The staff was quite welcoming of us, and our 5 month old puppy. The food is traditional pub fare, with a heavy Scottish influence. My wife had the fish & chips, and I had the shepherd's pie. Both were excellent. There's a nice selection of beer on tap, as well. We can definitely see ourselves heading back there, soon.

Nice friendly pub, warm and welcoming. Best cider I have found in town, Angry Orchard.

It's not a bad spot. The menu is a bit limited but then again they ARE primarily known for their beer. Since I don't drink beer, I'm basically focusing on the food. The fish tacos are quite yummy and I hear good reviews about their fish and chips. However, if variety is what you're looking for, you're basically limited to sandwiches/burgers, tacos, fish and chips, and wings for the most part. Good solid food, but a bit narrow on the selection. Nice service though!

I enjoyed an early casual weeknight supper in the comfortable pub environment. My "go to" meal at Deacon Brodies is the Vegetarian Samosa Sandwich with an upgrade to their onion rings and it didn't disappoint. The beer selection was good and I tried a new-to-me beer which I really enjoyed, and the service was friendly.

With over 400 bottles of whiskey Deacon Brodies Pub is hands down the place to go for those want to broaden their whiskey knowledge. There is also a nice selection of beer for those who are not the whiskey type. It has become a regular place I attend due to its proximity to my place but more importantly because of the wonderful staff (especially Jamie who you can find working her butt off behind the bar to make sure her customers are taken care of) and friendly group of regulars. If you enjoy live music, the local artists that play at Deacon's are also exceptional.

Portions are small, I ordered Bangers and Mash, I had 1 cut up sausage, spread around plate with just Mash and gravy, it's not a french cuisine restaurant!! My partner had turkey dinner, that was cold and 2 turkey pieces that were small, very small servings. Supposed to come with a lemon meringue pie. We was told it was sold out so it was replaced by pumpkin pie which we did not like. Would have been nice and polite to give a replacement dessert as it really is not our fault that it was sold out. We ended up not taking the dessert even tho it was offered as part of the meal. Our overall experience of the food portions is very mean. Beer was good, but unfortunately we will not be returning.

Great selection of both drinks and food here. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Service is very quick, and the food was great. Had a burger and fries that were delicious, and the fries were nicely crispy. Great street views from the patio if you like watching people go by. Recommended!!

Dependable pub with massive selection of scotch. I happened to be there for the Robby Burns celebration and it was awesome. Bagpipes drums and dancers. The service was great, go see Court!! You feel instantly at home in a place like this. I’m happy to support them I will go back.

We required a late evening meal, and this establishment happened to be open during those hours. It is a remarkable Scottish-themed pub. The waitress exhibited exceptional friendliness and engaged in enlightening conversations. The addition of an outdoor patio enhances the overall experience. The food and beer provided were of excellent quality, leaving no room for dissatisfaction.

This pub is great!! Filled to the brim, every table full of guest having fun, food, and drink. Other places were turning guest away for capacity issues for covid reasons, but not this place... filled to the brim. The food was ok, but no one cares.. the drinks were coming all evening while live music was playing. Fun place to be at.

Great place for a good meal at a decent price. If you're in the area, stop by and try the deep fried mac and cheese balls. One of the best things I've ever eaten.

I'm a regular at Deacon's, and generally the staff has always been very professional and nice. The drinks a fair priced and the food is top quality compared to most pubs. Tonight my server Janina really topped the experience with her service. My friends came to the bar and were impressed with the quality of the service she provided. Overall top quality establishment.

My wife and I ventured forth to Deacon Brodies today. They are respecting all Covid safety restrictions. I had the Club sandwich and an Elvis juice from Brewdog brewery. I had forgotten how good this was. I highly recommend them for both food and brews. For dessert I had a great single malt which I am sure anyone could find one they enjoy given their great selection. 5+

Food is is not that special. Poutine missed its mark, light on the gravey and cheese curds. Fries thin cut, dry and not hot? Jalapeño poppers not hot but warm cold?? They have very little quality Canadian Whisky. They make a big deal about their Whisky collection, yet show little interest, investment or visual display for the depth of our Canadian offerings. Canada has a lot to offer from Ryes, blends to the New Sige Malts coming out. It's sad that Canadians show no interest or pride in our rich history of distillation. Fortunately this is changing slowly. The staff was pleasant and did offer multi sample of beer to find the one that resonated.

Breakfast here is excellent: price-serving size ratio is generous; taste, coffee, speed and quality of service are excellent; interior is certainly cozy with lots of classic elements. Everyone must absolutely try Deacon’s taco here!

Amazing place to get food, it's affordable too! I had a great experience here, everything my table got was very tasty. Customer service was off the charts, we were served buy a waiter named Johnathan O. And he was great, going as far as to get us a custom desert that wasn't on the menu. If I were a Ottawa local I would eat here often. 11/10

we ended up here twice this week & both times were great. i appreciated the heat lamps & they also added ambience. definitely try to sit at the front end of the patio, the side section feels a little squishy for my comfort level. service was friendly & i liked the small bites menu! my partner likes the large selection of top shelf scotch.

Great atmosphere, however went for the turkey dinner, very small portion, potato and bread is cheap, give more than a scoop. Turkey was good, however it has a stuffing made of carrots so its not really a full slice. It was not very busy but never got refills of water, never got an opportunity to order another drink, was not very impressed. Service was terrible as waiter never came to check on us, definitely not an eating place

Stopped here for late supper. We shared the deep fried ravioli and my wife had the beef dip sandwich with potatoe and leek soup while I had the Scottish burger with goat cheese and smoked ham with fries. Everything was delivered quick, hot, fresh and juicy. We were just finishing the appetizer when the mains arrived. Food tasted great but the only thing they need to work on is finding a bun that will stand up to the juiciness of the burger. Staff were friendly and attentive, great atmosphere.

Oy vey. We had dinner at Deacon's on a sunny mid-September afternoon, and our contact details were taken for contact tracing. They subsequently closed for a week due to COIVD fears, but did not see fit to call us to let us know that we might have been exposed. (Not hard to see why they closed - we observed our server hugging patrons.) Wake up, folks! And next time, please warm up the buns before you serve the burgers.

Unfortunately my experience here seems to be far different from all the other reviews. A family member and I visited in August, specifically choosing Deacon Brodies as the patio seemed set up to respect the Covid restrictions. (However, the table itself didn't appear to even have been wiped from the previous drinks.) Aside from our starting water and menus, it was at LEAST 30 minutes before a server paid any attention to us -- and this was only after we actually requested service specifically. There was no apology for the delay (even after a friendly inquiry after our original server), and a general attitude of irritation and disinterest (from all three servers we interacted with). Unfortunately the food didn't make up for the service. The drinks were ok. We were looking forward to our first patio visit since the start of Covid, and unfortunately, it was complete disappointment.

The service is super slow, tables were left unsanitized, we had to ask for it. During red zoning time while CoVid19 it looks quite strange. The food is quite nice.

Our second time at Deacon Brodies Pub last night and once again we were very pleased overall. Starting from a quick and friendly greeting by the hostess, seating us at a clean table. Our waitress Emma was very friendly and efficient. She stopped by to check on us many times which seems to be a dying habit in the industry. The food arrived promptly, was hot and good quality. The only thing I would have liked is a slightly bigger portion of fries but that’s all I would have to suggest. Overall clean, great service, good food and drinks. Definitely one of my go to places now.

I like the set up and the kilts. Miss the toy train that used to circle along the ceiling track. Well priced weekend brunch with a big mug of coffee thrown in. Had the egg Benny one week and the Belgian waffles the next week. Both underwhelmed. But great service.

Great Scottish pub - Scottish paraphernalia is evident everywhere and the patio is roomy and right in the centre of things. Sadly the fries are from frozen but I enjoyed THE best hamburger I have had in decades, definitely NOT from frozen! Well done Deacon Brodies👏👏👏👏

I do recommend the place for drinks.they have an enormous list of scotch and drinks to choose from. Great atmosphere. I would strongly recommend the place for drinks and not for food. The calamari has more breading to it that the squid itself. The coleslaw with the fish and chips was really unappetizing and the fries where half cooked.

Very good pub. It is your typical pub serving reliable food at reasonable prices with a wide selection of decent priced drinks. Service was great and the place was quite busy with locals the two times I visited while in town , which is usually a good sign.

You'd think that all breakfast potatoes are the same, but at Deacon Brodies they are so soft they just dissolve in your mouth and they are not over condimented, like in most places. That alone makes their breakfast special. The service was good and they seemed to have good COVID-19 prevention measures.

  • 5/5 Georgie S. 3 years ago on Google
The cream ale, Dr. Jackal and blood moon sour were so dang good for drinks. The Samosa sandwich, butter chicken and zucchini sticks were amazing. And to top it all off the wait staff were attentive and kind. I would go back there anytime I'm even near Ottawa

Okay this is a mixed review. Nice to sit on patio in warm weather. Food was good and tasty. However Waiter got my order wrong. I would highly recommend pass on dessert and coffee as overpriced being poor quality and coffee tasted as it had been on hot plate way to long. Beers were good. Overall pass and prices good. Great place for a burger and beer or scotch. Tourists will like as good on budget. Server was pleasant.

The patio outside was open and the service was great. I had the chicken/bacon/cheddar burger on a brioche bun. Tasty! They also have a good selection of beers, but I'd like to see a dry hopped sour ale added to round out the offerings. Overall, a great experience!

Very good food, great value. I came to this place yesterday curious about brunch and was really impressed with the tasty food at amazing prices. Went back for dinner tonight and the calamari was fresh, crispy, meaty, and only $9.95! Where else in the city can you get good quality calamari for so little? A treasure - keep this place in business!

This pub has a good atmosphere and live music. I was underwhelmed with the food. Ordered the fish and chips, and one of their deserts and it was very bland, and cold. Not terrible but I would most likely not order those two items again. I also found the amount of alcohol in our wine glasses to be below average from other restaurants.
