Was disappointed when my friend and I visited this evening. When she asked for water, she was told she'd be charged for a bottle of water. She requested tap water, was told no and that the server could kick her out, so we left. So very annoyed as I've heard amazing things about this place from friends across the city.

This place gets a 5 cause it was part of a very fun and random summertime trip to Ottawa. One of the many places to people watch and chill in Byward Market. Food was ok, service seemed to get better when the venue became busier - evening dinner rush - seemed like their staff is ready for that.. either that or cause my group kept the rounds of drinks going. lol

Very disappointed in The Lookout. Went to see the Pride show today and their COVID-19 precautions were terrible. Tables were not adequately spaced out. There appeared to be no cleaning between guests at tables either. The hosts were walking through the crowds (without masks), sitting on peoples laps, and in one event coughing on a group of people making fun of COVID-19. I felt unsafe at this location. There was no enforcement of face masks on any patrons. Beyond that, I went to the washroom and despite the door being locked, people were able to barge in while I was using it...embarrassing and unsafe. I left, furious. I have not been isolating, minimizing my trips out, and following all these precautions to have all my efforts thrown out the window in a span of a little over an hour. If management reads this, you need to rethink your COVID-19 prevention measures, because they are either not enough, or not being enforced.

Every time I go here I have poor service...I understand that they are reopening after covid and it can be stressful at times but the waitress was rude. I have food allergies. She seemed agrivated due to the questions I had in regards to the menu. There's only one gluten-free vegan option. (Quinoa salad Bowl) unfortunately undercooked and very bland. I asked for pepper & hot sauce on the side and she took 15 minutes after my food had arrived to bring it out. She never brought pepper and walked past my table twice with the hot sauce to serve 3 other tables and told me to "wait" I was pretty grossed out because I had been waiting for quite a while. I left 20% tip because I know my food allergies can be annoying to deal with and she didn't seem impressed. I felt really sad as it was my first time back on the patios this season. The sun was nice and warm though😁😌

So, Saturday afternoon, busiest time in any downtown in any country in the world. No host to sit people down. Had to go find someone to sit us down after waiting 15 minutes on a small line up of people. Some decided to leave. No staff, no waitresses, not enough bartenders to serve the drink on a timely fashion manner. Waited over 20 minutes to get our drinks. Where is management??? Unacceptable, this is downtown. You are losing customers by the minute. Someone needs to step up. Thanks

There was only server until approximately 1pm for a full patio and a couple customers indoors and so... our drinks and food took over an hour, she forgot our second drink order and the kitchen did not observe my request. The patio area was nice, and it appeard as though the service was getting better once we left and the second server arrived.

Worst service I've ever had. I sat on the patio in the very hot sun for 15 minutes before our server saw us. We waved her over multiple times throughout the visit and she always seemed to disappear. There were a lot of staff on not seeming to be doing much either.

A sad excuse for a dining experience. Disinterested and uninformed staff, terrible cocktails, flat draught beer and an overpriced food menu. Chicken avocado sandwich bread was rock hard and bland. So many issues with this place. If you’re hungry your best bet is to chew on the cup of a vodka soda as it’s all they can execute.

The queens that perform here every night are so professional and lovely to see. The outside service has nice heat lamps and the seating is nicely spaced, the drinks are made well and the people that work there are friendly.

Had a burger and fries with a beer. I thought that the service was amazing and quick. My beer was cold and good. The burger was decent and my fries were crispy. Really good experience and I would go back. I think next time I would love to try their pizza. I give this place an easy 3.8 stars. If your in the market and you want a well priced beer with amazing service I recommend this place.

Disappointed with the quality of the food in general. Their food used to be better in terms of quality, taste and presentation. Salad was not fresh, lettuce is wilted and brown. Cauliflower wings deep fried in old oil and avocado spread on the sandwich was old and brown.

Worst bar I have ever been to. 1 star is given for spinach dip I ordered, however rest of my food was burnt. And its very annoying that this place is having long waiting to get a table n to have food after ordering. Vibe kinda ruined cuz of their choice of music.

So it’s was September 9 , I took my friend out for her birthday for drinks then she pulled this broken glass out of her mojito drink. It was shocking cause she just finished her drink and I walked to the bartender and pour the drink in front of him and he noticed the broke glass right away then throw it away immediately, without apologizing. The supervisor was extremely helpful and the restaurant manager also help us in this nightmare.

Thank you Cornerstone Bar and Grill! Our organization loved hosting our large anniversary event at your location. The food and hospitality was just perfect, and we really appreciate the extra effort you put in to make our event so special. We could not have found a better location and will definitely be back for future events. Thank you again!

What a disappointment! The place is nice but the service is so bad! The waitress was barely polite, very long service and almost non-existent... We had to ask a second time only for two glasses of water to another waiter. The place wasn't very busy, in contrary of others restaurant in the neighborhood. Now we know why... She seemed upset when she saw the tips, I consider I've been "generous" with a 10% percent tips... The menu is very limited, and the food was ok, not great (my hamburger has a "McDo-like" buns) and a small fries for more than 20 bucks... Pandemic is affecting all of us, but make an effort! There is some very good (food & service) restaurant about the same prices in the borough.

  • 2/5 Terri R. 4 years ago on Google
The service was slow. Bartender said he didn't know if they had WiFi when server clearly said no. Seemed weird for bartender not to know. Also, someone had just vomited at the bar which may indicate he was overserved. Staff took a long time to simply get a bucket and clean it up. Seemed like this place was disorganized. Only good thing was the lava stone sizzle thing that cooks your skewer right at your table....but the shrimp looked like they were out of a can - so small! I wouldnt go back, way to many other options on the block.

I would have hoped that with a limited menu to choose from that they were serving meals that were better in presentation and quality. What an embarrassment to be the one in our group to recommend this place for our group. If any restaurant hopes to survive in challenging times, lowering the bar on what you serve to the limited number of customers you do have is not the way to be in business for long. I would be surprised to see this place open in the months to come.

Nice atmosphere and great late night menu that offered cheap drinks ($5-$6). The good: The bar was clean and had a food atmosphere. There were two separate seating areas, one a little more quiet than the other. Well priced drinks. What could be better: Service was very slow. The place was full, but it was still unreasonably slow for drinks. Very limited gluten free options. I believe there were only three items that were labelled gluten free, and one was a caesar salad without croutons. Overall, this a really nice place for reasonably priced drinks before the late night crowd comes in. After, it was a bit too busy in the bar area for people looking to sit down for a casual drink. The lounge area still looked fairly quiet.

The amount they charge for the amount they provide is typical of all bars. Overpriced and uninspired food. The only upside is the employees are courtesy and timely and the patio location is convient and lively. However, with such a ridiculous pricing and portioning structure, I always reccomend my friends to try elsewhere in the byward area and actively tell them to avoid this place.

My servers were polite and their sweet potato fries were a good eat. That's all I got as to why the Cornerstone received any stars at all. The Ceasar salad was subpar, there was no dressing on the salad, maybe a splash but it tasted like all lettuce and pinch bacon. The nachos were also okay, could've uses more toppings. Okay, the guacamole; absolutely - disappointing. Not only were the large chunks of avocado left were frustrating, so, was the avocado chosen for the guac. Lastly, the washrooms, need to be updated and cleaned. I'm not sure if they're unisex individual washroom, but, its not equipped to easily dispose of feminine products. Which is whatever for the one disposing of products; maybe, others can do without the details of other visitors. The good part is theres hand sanitizing station after you come up from the washroom, you'll need it - but the sanitizer could be less watery.

I came with a friend a few weeks back. We were greeted and sat in the lounge side by the bar in a lovely circular booth. The gentleman serving us was very polite. The food on the other hand, tool 45 minutes for a chicken nacho and spinach dip. When they did come out the nachos were a bit mushy, like they had been sitting for a while. It didn't seem like they were overly busy, so it was a bit confusing. The new renovations look great, and the sever was very nice. The food could have been a lot better.

After having come to this establishment for years, all of a sudden, they don't accept ID's from Canada, demanding my crowd to get passports and lecturing us about how it's the law in the USA to walk around with them. Coming more than a few times a month to locations in and around Boston, most locations that want to enforce age or identity have readers that do read Canadian ID's. This guy lost a regular patron for incompetence, rudeness and serious BS. Very rarely do I leave a bad review but had to make a note about this. Won't be going back at all...

We had a great meal here on a Tuesday night. Shared an order of the cauliflower wings with a classic buffalo sauce and they were just so delicious - tangy and hot but also somehow light. We then had a really nice pizza with excellent fresh tomatoes, good quality cheese and a nicely blistered crust. Service was prompt and efficient and the terrace was comfortable and cozy. Thanks for a lovely meal - will definitely be back next time I'm in Ottawa.

My 2 friends and I ate here on a Saturday night and didn't have to wait for a table which was nice. We ate on the patio and the food was good. I got the chicken and avocado sandwich (delicious) with sweet potato fries. My friend got the vegetable skewer lava rock meal and found them underwhelming - one piece of mushroom, pepper, onion, and pineapple on each of the 3 skewers. No seasoning or sauce, could do yourself at home. The drinks were good though - I had the watermelon sangria. Service was a bit on the slow side.

It was not the most welcoming experience.. my girlfriend and I went in hopes of having a date night and when we arrived three of the employees were sat at the bar eating, the host who sat us was one of them and she seemed very bothered to have to greet us. There was only one table on the side we were on and we had seen another server and a bartender on the floor but had no one come see us after nearly 10 minutes so we left. Overall not a very comfortable way to start off at a restaurant and typically I don't criticize a long wait time if it is busy but with more staff in the place than there are customers that should not happen.

  • 2/5 Vanessa N. 2 years ago on Google
So the restaurant is called "... & Grilled" but the grill options are like... 2.... the steak was mediocre and too small for the price, and the burger was very disappointed. We won't be back again, very close to this restaurant are better grills and bars. The waitress was kind, but we went there to have good food, so it is still a no.

Oh Canada - July 1st in Ottawa's Byward Market at the Cornerstone Bar and Grill celebrating Canada day with a true Canadian double - the Canadian pizza and a Molson Canadian draught. Ordered a burger and fries and a salad. Food was gross. Burger served on a soggy, cheap, wonder-bread bun. Toppings on burger were gross. Salad was inedible and made with spring mix that was clearly expired. Wilted, slimy, pale and dead foliage. Waste of money. Chef should be ashamed.

We stopped in for a cocktail and we're disappointed with the product. The service was okay. The mojito and gin fizz were not very good at all. If I'm here in the future I'll avoid cocktails and try a beer, wine or whiskey. We didn't try the food.

Just a really mediocre experience. The cocktails were awful, and the pizza was ok. The spring rolls tasted ok, but $15 for 3 (cut in half - 6 pieces)?!

The food here was quite good. My partner and I shared the marinated sirloin steak that you cook to your liking yourself on a hot lava stone. Cooking the steak on the stone was probably the most fun I've ever had at a restaurant. When it was all said and done, the food itself was really really good. The only critique I have is our meal was listed as a meal for two people and the amount of food we got didn't leave us feeling satisfied at the end. Our portion of meat was actually perfect, but more rice and veggies would have been appreciated. Given how cheap it would be to provide a little bit more of these parts of the dish, it confuses me why they were so skimpy with them. Service was lovely, a very nice young lady made sure our time at Cornerstone was enjoyable and comfortable from start to finish.

I never complain about restaurants, but this one was the first time I got served cold food. Not just one dish either. Every item served to everyone in my group was freezing. It wasn’t even slightly warm, honestly felt like it just came out of the fridge. All I could think of was Gordon Ramsay being dramatic and spitting it out lol. It wasn’t bad, tasted pretty okay overall, but it wasn’t warm. It was also pretty expensive, especially for what was served.

Our waitress was great and her service was the lone bright spot of the night! The food on the other hand was a huge disappointment. Cold and soggy nachos that also had a 6$ charge for a few pieces of chicken. We had fries that were ice cold. The burgers were decent but nothing mind blowing. We saw that this place was pretty busy so we figured that it would be a safe bet. Not sure if we just came at a bad time but we left pretty disappointed.

Slow, our waitress visited our table total 2 times. And when we finally had to call other waitress for our bill, she gave us the eye rolling thingy. One beer was missing. My friend had to wait 30mins to get a pizza after everyone finished eating. Good place to practice your patience. Asked 3 times if we could get a bill. Very disappointed, over priced.

I showed up Friday night around 11pm with my brother who is special needs. He has a slight physical disability. We walk in and the bouncer did not let us in because my brother needed assistance going up the stairs at the entrance (which I was doing). The bouncer inside by the name of Yonatan said he couldn't let us in because my brother would be a liability if he falls. I said but he won't fall because I am right here next to him guiding him. He proceeded to tell me that he has the authority to analyze the situation and say we could not come in. I then said but this goes against my brother's human rights.. he then asked what rights are those? I educate him by informing him that no one should be denied goods or services based on their disability. He then replies that this is a private property, to which I responded that they are open to the public, meaning they have the right to serve to the public and not discriminate base on someone's disability. Two other bouncers approached us to try to rectify the situation, but it was too late. We do not feel welcomed here. Yonatan then comes out to say he spoke to the manager that was "willing to make an exception this one time" .... This shouldn't need to be an exception made . People with disabilities don't deserve to be discriminated or denied entry to a bar on a Friday night at 11pm. My brother is a young guy like anyone else and he just wanted to be out and socialize like any other individual In their 20s. Needless to say, we will be boycotting this place and will proceed to spread the word of how they disrespect people here.
