May 2023 Nice funky place. Cool, innovative cocktails, but not my price point. Probably typical prices for fancy cocktails, but too expensive for me. Not worth it, but the younger than me crowd seemed to open their wallets easily. My daughter had the mystery cocktail which she enjoyed. Unfortunately, after tax and tip, it cost $26. Ouch! We were here for a So Far Sounds event. Well organized, fun, and a nice place to have this pop up type of event. We enjoyed our evening out. If you want reasonably priced drinks, I would not recommend this cocktail lounge.

Cute place with great seating areas for large group of people. If it isn't a busy night, two people can take a couch area instead of the 2 seated areas. The spicy cocktail with the ghost pepper was fantastic. Bartender was very nice.

Reserved the corner couch thinking it would be nice to have a conversation with friends and drink based on the vibe from the pictures.. Speaker was right above us and the music was so loud we were basically yelling to hear one another. We left within 30 minutes and our ears were still ringing..

Fantastic concept but they missed the mark on a few things. They are not visible from the street, walked past it twice before realizing where it was. The drinks are way too overpriced but creative and flavourful. The gender neutral washrooms are clean. The cozy atmosphere is warm and inviting and designed to have friends gather and have conversations over cocktails. They seem to be confused about their identity or the DJ forgets that he is not in a nightclub because the music volume needs to be kept conducive to the environment they are trying to create. I didn't see a dance floor or a laser show so it doesn't warrant a music volume that keeps you on the dance floor instead of catching up with your friends over cocktails.

The drinks I had were okay. Cocktail menu is small for a place considered to be a "cocktail lounge". Visually the atmosphere was cozy but the music was way too loud to have any kind of conversation. Suitable volume for a nightclub maybe, but the place wasn't set up for that kind of thing.

Cocktails: I appreciate their creative menu - I enjoyed the Night Shade, the Midnight Delight, and the Stage Name. Service: Took a very long time to receive cocktails after ordering. Bit surprised that a cocktail bar ran out of the appropriate glasses - my friend’s espresso martini was served in an old-fashioned glass and with lots of ice. Disappointed that they forgot to include the egg whites in my Midnight Delight. Ambience: Music choice and DJ were excellent. One major issue with Charlotte is that they try to force a vibe - they blast loud music on the weekend evenings to the point where you cant hear the person across from you. The couches are spread far apart from each other, so you then have to lean forward and hurt your back just to hear the people across from you. I get that Charlotte *can* turn into a more clubby atmosphere some nights, but it feels forced at times, to the detriment of the experience. Re: the egg whites - I did not raise the issue with my server (I probably should have), but I think the broader point I was trying to raise is that it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. I don't really like going to these types of places but I have to give props when they're due. It's a really nice place with an apartment atmosphere. It can get quite loud making it hard to hear other people. The drinks aren't crazy expensive. The staff is really nice, knowledgeable and have a great sense of humour. Great job. Oh I forgot to mention this is a hard place to find! It's on the second floor and only has a small sign to mention where it is!

A great new concept in Ottawa. Very open, lots of room for interaction. Amazing music playlists. Super friendly staff. Great drinks. Amazing interior decor. Definitely worth the wait and the price. Not to mention the funky bathrooms as well.

Charolette used to be our girls night go to. Went very recently and found the drinks to be way over priced, with few good cocktail options, even wine was way over priced. We got the charcuterie board, and it was extremely small for $28, same with the cheese board, extremely small and $24. Don't think ill go back, even though the atmosphere and waiter were awesome.

We went here for my fiancé’s birthday as the drink menu was unique and craft cocktail focused. The shaken drinks were quite good and creative, but the stirred drinks were poorly balanced. It was very difficult to get the server’s attention for our second drink - even though he was right next to our table, he delivered food to us without making eye contact (or looking at the empty glasses on the table) and could not hear us trying to get his attention. The thing that really killed it for us was that the music was literally deafening. Noise above 70 decibels can cause permanent hearing loss and I measured the noise level in this place at 85 decibels- actually a workplace safety hazard. I go to a cocktail bar for a relaxed ambiance a good drink and a conversation. The noise levels were such that we spent our time screaming WHAT at each other across the table. The DJ seems to think he’s in a night club and responds to people trying to talk by blasting the music even louder. I feel for the staff who should really be wearing hearing protection to prevent the hearing loss they are no doubt experiencing from working there.

Went last night with a friend to check out this lounge. Sat down in an open seat then was told after a few minutes by the hostess to move because it was reserved but that we were allowed to sit at the bar. So we move to the bar, and the same thing happens. She walked up let up know the bar spot was suddenly reserved and so we waited for someone to get up and leave from their spot at the bar and then we sat down. Finally I got to order drinks (2 espresso martinis) and before they are even made yet the same hostess walks up and asks if I have paid for the drinks yet… I’m at this point getting a strange vibe from the place but I told her no not yet I haven’t even received the drinks yet and she walks off. After the drinks were made I paid (it was a whole $42 for both drinks with the 18% tip) and I can barely take the first sip before the hostess walks up and lets us know the spot we’re in is actually reserved and we suddenly once again can’t sit there. So now I’ve spent almost $50 in here and am being forced to go sit on the bench underneath the coat rack…. So unprofessional I will not be coming back here. Disappointing because I liked the atmosphere and prices aside it would have been worthwhile if not for being denied a spot and almost gaslit into sitting at the bar and buying drinks before being told we cannot sit anywhere because every single spot in the lounge is reserved.

A retro vibe, a step back in time to MCM coolness. Inventive and interesting for-all cocktails and a well executed, locally provisioned food menu make this a must visit spot for pre (or post) dinner drinks or a great spot to hang out with your group.

I've been here for dates, work events, and casual hangouts, and it never disappoints! The cocktails are always excellent (if a little overpriced), and it's a great spot to have a night out. The apartment-style setup works really well for groups, the vibe is excellent, and the servers are great at making recommendations. The food selection isn't amazing, but hey - you're on Elgin so there are plenty of other options for that nearby.

My partner and I went to The Charlotte for new years eve. The place has a lovely, mid-century modern vibe, with comfortable & stylish seating & tables — very much a lounge rather than a bar/restaurant. We were expecting it to be a little bit quieter, like it usually is, but since it was new years eve they had a DJ and it was very much more of a party vibe, which is expected on NYE. Overall it was an amazing place, would definitely return during a less-busy time!

Was super excited to visit this lounge with some friends. The decor is lovely, and the music was pretty awesome. However, it was so loud, no one could hear each other (including the girls literally on their boyfriend’s laps). It was Saturday, but it was louder than the club we went to afterwards, where we stood to talk instead. You should be able to hear others in a lounge. I tried one drink, which was good, but then I ordered another. It had been about 20 minutes, and my friends wanted to find another place we could actually chat. The bartender came to cash everyone out, and she hands me the bill for drinks including the one I hadn’t received yet. She said she’d check the bar and if it wasn’t ready, she’d remove it off my bill. I then watch her go talk to the bartenders, who then pour her and the other bartender shots, which they all took together, then she came back with my new bill and no drink. So, can’t really speak for the menu as the staff was “too busy” to get it to me within 20 mins, despite the drinks costing ~$20. But had enough time to take shots within our view. Super disappointing.

I had a really great time at this bar! Really nice lounge and service was very friendly. Decor is pretty unique for Ottawa. Bathrooms are single stalled and unisex, and each have a different cool wallpaper. It seems the food and dessert offered is basically just brought up from Pure Kitchen downstairs, so I’d probably only come here again for drinks.

Hosted my wife’s 50th Birthday Party at Charlotte this past week. I can’t say enough about how AMAZING the evening was. This venue is a PERFECT place to host a party. We were a group of 90 people and the space worked extremely well. The Team at Charlotte and Pure Kitchen were TRULY EXCEPTIONAL, they performed flawlessly. My guests were blown away by the energy in the room. The food was SPECTACULAR. Special thanks to Ashleigh for taking charge and putting my mind at ease. Cody for his excellent layout skills, Jordan for making my guests feel so welcome. Kam the DJ for his EXCELLENT selection of music and POSITIVE demeanor. Dave Leith should be VERY PROUD about the quality product and team he has developed. If I could have left more than 5 stars I would have.

I went to the Standard for the first time tonight for a co-worker’s going away party. Social distancing measures met or exceeded standards... my server (I didn’t catch her name... pretty, long dark hair working upstairs) was so AMAZING!!! She accommodated my requests (mainly for her to just bring me a cocktail and food of her choosing)... I was NOT disappointed!! Cocktails- delish... the fries are PERFECTLY prepared and flavourful without being greasy or overly salty... and despite being busy, I never waited for my beverages or my bill for more than two minutes. ALL that AND she was charming AF... laughing at all my lame jokes!!! 10/10 recommend and 100% WILL visit again soon! Oh... and the music is was as perfect as the service xoxoxo

My friend and I were looking for a good brunch place on Elgin St after leaving Happy Goat Coffee. We we lured into this place by the open windows with tables overlooking the street and sidewalk. It wasn’t busy when we walked in. We were quickly seated and served. The food was delicious. I was surprised. Really good waffles. And I have been looking for a decent brunch place that actually serves waffles in downtown Ottawa for awhile! Definitely gonna go back.

Had a great couple experiences at the Standard during the Sippin Santa tiki bar pop up. The food has been really delicious and our server the most recent time, Sheldon, was very attentive and made the meal even better! Shelly was the highlight of the holidays at the standard and we will be making the standard our go-to spot for after work drinks. More lively music would be appreciated.

Delicious food! The burger was one of the best I've had in ages and the sweet potato fries were the perfect level of crispy.

Really nice staff and atmosphere. Went around Halloween and the entire restaurant was really decorated. Got one of their pizza's and the dough really stands out! You can tell it's been rolled by hand in the back fresh for you whereas most restaurants have dough that tastes like it was pre made and just cooked. It's worth the trip to elgin to try this.

The protein salad here is delicious but I was a little disappointed when I got the standard burger. For $20 I expected the portion size to be pretty decent but it was not. The side of fries was small and the burger was pretty stingey on the ingredients.

We have gone for brunch, dinner, and late night drinks. Day time service is attentive and friendly. My experience of the late night service was friendly but you want to make sure you flag down your server because they are busy.

I’ve been to Charlotte a couple of times now, and I’ve always had a pleasant experience. The place has a really nice feel to it, the decor is great and the seats are very comfortable. I like that it’s set up in sections, each one like a living room. The last time I was there my group tried the salt & vinegar kettle chips, the roasted bar nuts, the charred broccoli and the dumplings. For drinks, I tried the Planter’s Punch (pictured) and a Pina Colada, both were very good. They have a wide variety of wines and beers as well. Everything I’ve tried there so far has been delicious. I’d recommend checking it out.

Charlotte is a fantastic place for snacks and drinks! Staff is super attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. I'm gluten free and our server made sure I was taken care of. They have wonderful cocktails and a super tasty wine menu. Try the Beaujolais Blanc. It is amazing!

Went there to end the night with a few drinks. The music and the ambiance was awesome. The cocktail list ranged from 13$ to 21$ roughly which is what you expect in those trendy spot.

Drinks are great, decor is great, atmosphere is pretty good but the music was all over the place. Don’t play music at club volumes if you’re a lounge where everyone is sitting. Also the song selection was all over the place, dude was going from Drake to weird tribal music for an hour. This is a cocktail lounge bro not an Aphex Twin concert, someone gotta talk to that guy.

The lounge itself is still really nice / mid-century modern vibes, but otherwise the experience isn’t what it used to be. Service is also so/so. It’s too bad because we don’t really have a nice lounge space on Elgin.

Well the place is amazing. However they think they are located at Santa Monica or Monaco … drinks are so expensive (19$ for a scotch whisky) and the cocktail are so small (18$ minimum) The waitress is so slow and not professional at all. Same thing, the DJ wasn’t respectful neither professional. I would prefer go somewhere else more fun and which respect better their costumers.

Nice ambiance and delicious cocktails, albeit quite expensive. Bar seating was busy and fun on a Saturday night. Lots of people dancing at their tables/seats near the end of the evening. Overall, a fun place in Ottawa, but be prepared to splurge a little. Get the "sicker than your average" - delicious!

Not only is Charlotte a lovely spot to get a fancy cocktail with friends, it's also an excellent site for your events ! We hosted my friend's bridal shower here and she absolutely loved it! Larissa was a joy to work with, took care with our dietary restrictions and personally oversaw the event. My friend could not have been happier and we would definitely recommend Charlotte for similar early afternoon events. Thank you again Larissa and team for making our bride super happy and helping us throw a delightful bridal shower.
