We sat at the bar on a busy Tuesday evening and ordered the white freezie cocktails. They both arrived with flies in them, 2 in mine and 1 in my partner's. We were appalled, and politely asked for them to be taken back. The pizza and pasta we ordered were good, no issues there but for a $90 fee with questionable cleanliness we won't be coming back.

Yesterday, I went to dinner alone because I was celebrating my birthday. The food was delicious; I ordered the Stella pasta. The margarita was bland, but the cannoli was tasty. However, the waiter who was serving me left me in "neglect" because I was alone. The other waitstaff were attentive to the other tables, but I felt like a "ghost" with no attention.

Visited for lunch on the patio. The prosciutto and arugula pizza was amazing, the Angus burger patty was very juicy and larger than the bun. The sweet potato fries were so thick and nice. Very fast and friendly service. Will definitely be back.

This is the first time I've ever been at this restaurant and I will most definitely be back again the service was absolutely exceptional and the food was incredible, best birthday 🥳 dinner. Our waitress Karen was very lovely, will definitely recommend to anyone looking for fantastic Italian food.

Amazing food and service! Connor served us last night and it was magnificent, the service was seamless and the food was to die for! I ordered the linguini pescatore and my friend ordered the lasagna and we split the bruschetta and it was delicious! I've tried a lot of bruschetta and this is hands down my favourite. Last night was my first time at Johnny Farina's and I can't wait to return!

I had an amazing experience here. The restaurant was well lit and nicely decorated. Plenty of seating regardless of whether it was bar/general. The lunch menu was reasonably priced for the quality and portion. Also they make all their pasta from scratch. The ravioli was so yummy!! Amazing sauce and vegatable combination. Also the bread they start you off with is heaven..

Went for our 3yr old sons bday dinner on a thursday. We needed reservations - tried to go day before and there was a 30-45min wait on a Wednesday. No written kids menu but they do offer kids items. My son got a pizza with custom toppings - was good. They have smaller portion pastas too. Hubs got blackened salmon which he loved. Gnocchi with rose was also very good but not unique. Thursday half price wine bottles - worth it! And we could the leftovers back to hotel with us. Waitress was wonderful. They were very busy and short staffed and she was very present for us. Much appreciated. They brought a bowl of ice cream with a candle for our son's bday 😊

We ate outside they are pet friendly and the lasagna was very good but a little to cheesey. Pretty good place but it's a bit pricey

Really nice atmosphere and kind waitress but slow service and mouldy grapes. 60 minutes to receive calamari and a charcuterie board. 2 grapes on board were mouldy and waitress said it was just blue cheese. Pic of blue cheese for reference lol! I would try other places in the area before coming here unfortunately

First time there during my second visit to Ottawa, was looking for a restaurant to accommodate my Keto diet and my parents desire for Italian food. We weren't disappointed, our server was Noah, extremely professional and friendly. Every dish was delicious, generous portions and not pricy. We were really impressed with the entire experience, wish there were more places like that around, highly recommended!

Service was slow, we got our meals at very different times. The food was quite tasty though. Several of the locks in the women's bathroom didn't work and people were accidentally walking in on one another.

I haven't eaten at Johnny Farinas (the sit down restaurant) before but I have gotten drinks! Awesome attentive service and they even offered us fresh bread to munch on. I frequently stop by Johnny's To Go (located to the right of the entrance) for lunch! Joe is awesome and makes a killer salad and panini!

Had the Johnny Farina chicken penne. Oh, what a glorious salty creamy garlicky flavour fest that was! Comfort food for grown-ups. Unmarred by veggies of any type; you'll want a salad to go with it. :-)

A little bit of a wait at the table for the waitress as there is a shortage of staff. The waitress was super friendly and helpful to decide what to eat! There were so many great options. We were a group of 5 and everyone loved their plate. We ordered 2 chicken parmesan, scallops and shrimp pizza, gnocchi and the lasagna! Everything was super hot and flavorful!!!

It's been a few years since our last visit. I went with my spouse and another couple. Service was excellent. The food was delicious all around including the appetizers and entrées. It was a Sunday and with our table near the sidewalk patio on a warm evening we could also watch the procession of high end vehicles cruising back and forth flashing their income, fake or otherwise. It was an excellent evening out and we'd return for sure.

Ordered the blackened salmon salad, it was amazing. Love all the gluten free options. Can't wait to visit again.

It was my first time visiting this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised, more so because I had never heard of them before! The restaurant was really nice and clean, calming and stylish atmosphere with good music. I think I heard sublime while I was there. Our server was so incredibly friendly too! The food was delicious. All in all great experience and I would absolutely go back as well as suggest that others go.

Fantastic experience at Johnny Farina! The food was excellent, the prices were reasonable and the staff was personable and gave us great service and recommendations. The Stella pasta was a hit for all four of us at the table. We will be back for sure!

Wonderful experience! Great, great food, kind staff, and lovely atmosphere. Only got a picture of our appetizer (arancini in pomodoro sauce) because when our entrees touched down we started eating right away! It was delicious, a little softer than I'm used to but very good! The meals we ordered were Moe's pizza and tagliatelle alfredo (I added chicken). The alfredo sauce was the best I think Ive ever had, it was not the super white style western sauce you find at some other places. This sauce was rich, creamy, and had a deliciously bold flavour. The noodles were perfection! The pizza toppings were good; though the crust was very soft, unusually soft. Almost like it needed to be 'well done'. Portions were great! All the stuff was awesome, they had lots of runners helping the wait staff and it didn't take long to get our meals. There was a mix of young and old families and couples. Definitely higher quality, pricier food but I wouldn't be worried about just walking in off the street. The prices are 100% worth it.

A great place to eat good Italian food before a show at the National Arts Center or an evening downtown. They even have half price wine bottles on some nights!

My husband and i stopped at the restaurant when we were in Ottawa, it was our first time here and we tried the Tagliatelle chicken and  shrimp,it tasted so divine,The chicken and shrimp were seasoned properly. The host that served us was professional and the restaurant was also clean. I'll definitely recommend them and also stop by whenever I'm in Ottawa.

Excellent pasta dishes and salads! I have been several times, and the food was always good quality! Not a fan of the recent thumping ambient music, however, some quiet jazz or classical would be easier on the ears while eating and talking. By the way, the coffee is great, and the desserts are delicious! If you love Italian, do try Johnny Farina.

Ok this is what happened. It was my 2nd week with the firm I work at, someone told me new people have to sing our orders to the waitress. A little bit of hazing right. Guess what I did when she asked what I was ordering, I sang it. Instead of treating me like the absolute weirdo I was in that moment, the kind waitress went along with it and even complimented my singing. That is SERVICE right there people! I was so impressed . Not only is the staff amazing, the food is next level. I had the Stella pasta and it made me forget what a fool I made myself out to be moments earlier. The ambiance is very modern, welcoming and delightfully tasteful. Skip every other place you want to be. Johnny Farina's is a must when in Ottawa.

The food is pretty good, and so is the service. What I didn’t like was that there was a big group/party of people split between tables, and they were moving around without their masks. The servers didn’t say anything to them. I didn’t feel very safe dining there as they were also crossing our table without masks. I encourage the servers to remind patrons of the covid rules. I understand this can be challenging, but it’s not worth the health risk.

Went here for dinner on a Sisters’ date. The food was delicious. We ordered pizza and a pasta to share and both were really good. Their pizza is wood-fired and tasted sooooo good Nice atmosphere, friendly waiter and good prices.

Great experience reserving here for a party of nine. Table was ready slightly before our scheduled time slot and staff were very friendly! There was a couple things that weren’t as expected (missing a napkin and service was slow at times) but they were busy so completely fair. Great spot in downtown Ottawa for quality Italian fare. Bonus points: they are great with special requests!

  • 4/5 Omara S. 9 months ago on Google
I must admit, we didn't have high expectations as Italian cuisine isn't really our thing. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the amazing flavors at this restaurant. The complimentary bread with olive oil was a nice touch while waiting for our meals. The mussels, which were quite large, made for a delicious appetizer. Both the pizza and pasta we ordered were delightful, although the pasta was slightly creamier than I prefer. The attentive service topped off the experience. We'd definitely visit again!

Wouldn’t recommend. Atmosphere was okay but service and food was terrible. Mouldy grapes on the charcuterie board. Waitress tried to tell me it was blue cheese. Waited over an hour for 2 appetizers. Just flat out disappointing and waste of money that could of been spent where deserved.

One of my favorite Italian restaurants in Ottawa! The food is always great and the servers are always very friendly and attentive. Whenever I have friends coming from out of town, this is my go-to spot.

  • 4/5 Archisman M. 11 months ago on Google
I'm traveling from BC with friends and we went there for dinner. I like the layout of the place and how they've separated the lounge and bar from the family friendly restaurant area. They also have a gelato shop which I've been told changes their gelato flavours quite often. Food was great, we got their pizzas. I feel they could have added a little more of the toppings considering the prices. I do have an issue with their alcohol service. As a bartender myself it is quite important to me to know how to pour beers and serve highballs especially if the place is marketed as 'high end' like at Farina's. When customers pay a higher price for booze in comparison to pubs, they are entitled to expect a better presentation. I feel the management should take into consideration how they're training their staff. Regardless Brittany was a very good server. She accommodated us well, and kept checking on us at the right times.

We went in for my moms birthday today. My first time here and my last. Waited forever for drink refills, server rolled her eyes when we asked for more water. (8 out of the 10 of us had no water). Reso for 5pm, once seated we were told we need to leave by 7pm for another reservation. I ordered the salmon, so dry, worst salmon ever. So dry felt like chewing on dry canned tuna. I must say someone from our table did speak up for me and they took it off my bill. Server said the kitchen and manager agreed it was really dry. I would have told our server, but she never checked on us after we got our meals. Took 20 minutes to get a drink once ordered. How are we supposed to be out in 2 hours when service is so slow? We brought in a cake. Once time for the cake, the server brought it out with plates, no forks, no napkins and proceeded to hand us our bills to "get out". Had to ask another server for forks so we could at least have some quick cake. Manager came over and told us we were 10 minutes past our allowed time and they need to free up our table. Just over all awful experience!

I had a bacon scallop pizza, and my partner had the chicken parmigiana. The pizza was amazing. Good size, fantastic ingredients, and a unique flavor I haven't had elsewhere. The chicken was good, pretty standard. Service was quite good, but the space around our table was cramped (people/servers walking by pretty much touched the table).

Came here with colleagues from work. Had the GF penne with chicken, mushroom, spinach and cream sauce as did one other person. It sounded amazing in the description but I was left disappointed. It was quite bland. And very expensive for lunch, although the portion was good size.

Enjoyed the chicken Parmesan here! Nice atmosphere. Service was slow- they seemed short staffed- but our server made up for it, she was great. Will return!

Have been here a few times. Was here last week (Nov 2023) and had a pretty poor experience. Called to make a reservation for 2 people and when we arrived they said they didn't have a table ready. They said we could wait at the bar for a table so we did. After 30mins they said they didn't think they were going to be able to get a table for us and that we could either eat at the bar or leave. We were just about to leave when they found a table (45mins) after our reservation time. We each had wine, burrata, lasagna and linguine pescatore. Everything was good except the linguine: poor presentation, soupy, and I think the mussels had gone off because I was sick the next day. It's really too bad because my past experiences have been good but I don't know if I'd ever go back.

I’ve gone to Johnny Farina’s multiple times prior to this covid situation and I was always quite impressed with the service provided. However this time I was disappointed for a variety of reasons: Lack of customer service, we waited over 30 minutes at the end of our meal for our server to return to offer any deserts, coffee or a Bill. Merely because our server was speaking with someone for ages who I presume was a regular at Johnny’s. Fairly straightforward cocktails were made improperly/poorly and overall our dining experience was subpar. Unfortunate as this was always a go to spot to bring folks from out of town. I’ll have to look elsewhere now.

Can't comment on their pizzas but overrated and average quality for appetizers and pastas. At least 15$ for very generic salads and frozen calamari. Pastas, especially with the cream/cheese based sauces (like the gorgonzola), were awful for the 20$-something dollar price range. The pasta is just swimming in sauce and oversalted. Given how grainy/gritty the sauce is, they either use pre-shredded cheese or overheat the sauce. You might as well pay the type of money they charge or a little more for a better quality italian place.

Excellent experience once again. Chose this place for dinner with our friends, and everyone was so happy! Chicken Marsala is new on the menu and definitely worth a try. Seafood pasta, pizza, and blackened salmon salad were absolutely delicious. Coupled with a friendly service it makes for a wonderful place for a family dinner that is also kids friendly. Our restaurant of choice in Ottawa. Highly recommend.

We had a dinner with my friend to celebrate her birthday. We were promptly seated by the host when we arrived and got the seating as requested out of the busy walking area. Our server Dana was very nice and professional. She was helpful with recomendation of wine and the special of the day. The food was good and plentiful. My friend was delighted by the dessert and the candle was a sweet touch. Thank you Johnny Farina's team!

First of all, I would like to take the time to point out the service of a Ms. Jaclyn. The service was second to none. It was though we were talking to a friend we haven’t seen in far too long. She was knowledgeable fast and very kind. I have never experienced service of her equal, and from here on out all reviews I give will be based off of her performance. The food was excellent. The bread felt fresh out of the oven and hand made just for us. The spinach dip was unusual but very good. The pizza and lasagna were certainly much better than I was expecting. The lasagna was a little heavy on the cheese, but one I carved past the layer of cheese the rest was quite pleasant. Definitely check this place out! Make sure you ask for Jaclyn!!

The food was amazing! Great wine but the ambience is not what we expected based on what we saw online. The bistro lounge area is half of the space. The second half of the space is basically a sports bar which is not what we wanted based on what we saw online. Also, don't get any cocktails there

Sitting here eating at present moment, and I had to write a review before finishing my meal. Ny husband ordered steak frites with med steak, it came well-done instead. Good mayo for dipping fries. I ordered a pasta which tasted good, but the noodles were SO mushy and overcooked, I was surprised to have this experience at a downtown restaurant. Plate also full of oil and mushy, overcooked pasta is on top. Friendly wait staff.
