North & Navy is our go to restaurant for special occasions or date nights out. The food is 10/10, the service is amazing, and the atmosphere is perfect. Sebastian is a fantastic server! Hands down our favorite restaurant in Ottawa. (Photos are from their special pre-set Valentine’s menu).

Favourite restaurant in Ottawa. The food and the service are a top tier experience. You get the quality of fine dining in the food, drink and service but can also enjoy the vibe of a quaint and family-owned restaurant. Impress your parents or a date by taking the to North & Navy, they will not let you down! ❤️

Simply put, North & Navy is amazing. The ambiance, service, and food make it one of my favourite places in Ottawa. The incredible attention to detail makes this a dining experience you will not soon forget. I still dream of the short rib ravioli in the jus/whey sauce. It was so good that we ordered another serving for dessert!! Be weary of poor reviews dated February 2022.

The most beautiful room in Ottawa. First class service, wine list, and the menu is beyond. Homemade pasta that tastes like your Nonna made it. The perfect restaurant for a special occasion and a great reason to get dressed up! 5 star service and the staff knows their wine. Was planning my next visit while I was eating my second course. Chefs kiss!

Lovely experience - we went for an anniversary and could not have been happier with the food, atmosphere, decor, or the service. I love fresh pasta and this was like nothing else I’ve ever had. Will be back for more!

We just moved to Centretown a few months ago and we were lucky enough to actually move 2 min. walk away from North & Navy 😍 First experience there and it was incredible! Service, food, drinks and ambiance. Everything was perfect! We even had our own private "room". I highly recommend this, you won't regret it.

Overhyped. Pasta was too sour and so was the beef dish. Paid almost 50$ for the halibut and it was way too salty and the dish was just a meat cake with a few small vegetables. The restaurant setting is very cute but the food wasn’t good at all.

What an interesting and delicious experience. Our server, Ellen, was attentive, particularly helpful with wine recommendations. As others mention, the place can be loud, the portions are small, more tapas style, but priced high for the amount you get. That said, we loved every dish we tried and realized we left satisfied, not over indulgent. The chef is creative AF!

Absolutely amazing experience. Our server was so professional and knowledgeable. He explained the menu in detail. The food was outstanding. Had one appetizer, 3 mains to share and 2 desserts. Everything was amazing. The affogato dessert was simple but the flavors were..... yum. Would definitely come back. It is pricey but worth it.

Had dinner here with a friend last September and had the best time. The food was delicious (The carpaccio and the halibut in particular were incredible) and the service was wonderful. They brought us a blanket when it got chilly, made us amazing cocktails, and our server (Carlos?) was a delight. Thanks for the great experience!

WOW! HIDEN GEM in Ottawa! Compliments to the chefs! The food did not just taste amazing, I absolutely adore adore adore the presentation! Every plate was delicately assembled, with consideration of shapes, colors, and textures. Each bite was like flavors explosion in your mouth! Our waitress Ellen W. recommended great wine to pair with our selection of food and she was on top of everything without us even asking. Great food, great service, great place for a low key but fine dining date night.

Was a delightful experience and had a great tasting experience. Each of the courses were quite delightful and flavorful as well. We went for our anniversary and the ambience, service and overall food quality was top notch. Great place to come for special occasions or if you enjoy the finer things in life.

Every single course was delightful! Truly enjoyed the mocktails (custom made for us), appetizer was super refreshing and mains (pasta dishes) were great. Did not disappoint for vegetarians as well.

Consistently one of the best restaurants in Ottawa, NoNa can do it all - casual on Sundays, high-end (but still approachable) every other day of the week, and has adapted in some fun ways throughout the pandemic (mulled wine and warm brodo during fall patio season, yes please!). Would have had my fifth visit there last weekend, but Centretown was unfortunately under siege by a mix of conspiracy theorists, bigots, anti-vaxxers, and generally unempathetic, selfish, and scared human beings who are lashing out in all the wrong ways.

Dined here to celebrate an anniversary.Cozy and inviting atmosphere. Incredibly welcoming and kind staff. Our server was very pleasant, and we enjoyed their service. Drinks, antipasti and our primi pasta, were delicious. However, it was an entirely different experience when it came to our mains. My partner's pork-tenderloin was unevenly cooked, dry in some places and pink in others, and my duck came to my plate completely raw; blood on my cutlery after touching. I asked for it be remade, and it graciously was, however I still did not finish my meal, as it was also unevenly cooked; still raw in some places, and my boyfriend and I were unable to eat our dishes together. This was our first time dining with North & Navy and with much excitement upon arrival, we left disappointed and still feeling hungry.

Always a great time at North and Navy. Sebastian was our server and did a great job. We had some delicious cocktails and food that I wish I could cook! Everything was wonderful, not cheap but most certainly got what we paid for. Thank you North and Navy. You're number in fine dining in my books!

It's one of my favorite restaurants so far in Ottawa. Great food, staff, and vibe. The only complaint I'd make is the noise levels. It's a bit hard to hear. Also, the bread crust was way too thick and hard to bite through, but that could've been an off day. I'd love to come back and sit at the bar so I can watch the kitchen work or reserve one of their private rooms.

We went as we just got married and my husband and we were not disappointed! There was a few personal touches during the evening that made it even more special. The food is amazing, no question there. The plates sizes are worth the price and the amazing service is the cherry on top. Wine wise, they have some gems in there, trust their recommendations. We will be back!

I am a Registered nurse from the Ottawa Hospital working at the Brewer assessment centre. North and Navy has been donating food to us every Wednesday and this was the first week I was able to try it since it goes so fast :) absolutely delicious and well appreciated. Thankyou to everyone there for their generosity. We all really appreciate it and like I said judging by how quickly everyone rushes to get their food it is definitely tasty :) thanks for all you are doing. I will definitely be getting some takeout in the new year

Great service, for sure! Appetizers were pretty good, but mains and drinks were unfortunately very ordinary. My S.O. and I were both very disappointed with our plates (didn't finish mine). Would not recommend, and will not be back.

Amazing food as usual - even for takeout. This is our 6th year dining with N&N to celebrate Valentine’s Day and it never fails to disappoint. This year was a little bit different however, as we were unable to dine in at the restaurant due to the provincial lockdown. My only complaint is that the service this year (at home) was a bit questionable - the waiter was practically begging for food right off of our plates for the entire meal, where at one point he even jumped up on my wife’s lap and followed her to the washroom. Good thing the unreal food made up for this, but we do prefer to dine in at their amazing location with their wonderful wait staff.

Great Italian style restaurant. Their happy hour has great drink specials along with amazing appetizers. Their main menu is even more delicious. Cozy atmosphere set in a house in centre town. Unfortunately there was no visible accessibility to the main entrance(stairs only) also the washrooms are upstairs. Staff are very friendly and helpful with navigating the me nu.

I came in tonight for my second year anniversary. Wow what a pleasure to come to North and Navy! Stefan was the best! His pairings were spot on and same with his suggestion of an additional first course. The food was incredible, the pickled squash and stuffed pasta was mind blowing! Can’t say enough about this place everything tasted so good and was unlike any Italian restaurants I’ve had before. Once again Stefan was an incredible host he made us feel at home and congratulated us on our anniversary while putting our coats away. We will be back again.

WOW WOW WOW!!! My husband and I came to Ottawa for the weekend for our anniversary. We decided on North and Navy for our special evening out. Right from the first phone call to book our reservation, we could tell that this was an extraordinary place. This restaurant blew us away! The food was amazing!! The dishes are so well thought out and very different than your standard Italian dinner. Our server, Ellen, had such a great attitude and was so knowledgeable! Gabi, Ellen and the rest of the staff at North and Navy really made this an exceptional experience. THANK YOU! - we will be back!

We visited here one date night at the last minute and were lucky to get in. The atmosphere is very cozy and welcoming. Wonderful decore and ambiance. Had the eggplant starter which had such a balanced and intentional flavours. The drinks and mains were great too. The staff were exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Service was appropriately timed, and excellent. Overall we had a great experience.

Just fantastic, definitely one of the best joints in Ottawa. The steak was just to die for and it cannot be recommended enough but in reality everything from the ambience to the presentation to the potion sizing and taste was brilliantly executed.

Food was tasty, the raviolo was a bit too al dente for our liking. Recommended trying their salmon and quail. Meatballs were a bit too savory. Excellent service. The restaurant was converted from a house. Very warm and cozy. Since it's an open concept, the noise level makes it a bit hard to talk.

Beautiful ambiance, excellent service, and open kitchen experience! This little gem was found by my boss on a work trip to Ottawa recently. Located in a converted Victorian, North and Navy transports you to an old-school cozy Italian eatery with charm and a sense of home and belonging. We got the coppa plate, chard eggplant w/ yogurt, peach and ricotta anoli, short ribs ravioli, and the vegetarian steak, which was a charred cabbage wedge, and tiramisu for dessert. The coppa although in house made was good but nothing impressive. It was a flat plate of charcuterie topped w/ honey and sliced plum. The charred eggplant was absolutely fantastic the textures and flavourful combination were a serious win with this dish smokey, tangey, and subtle sweet harmonized lovely together 👏 My shortrib ravioli was pretty good. A decent size although still smaller than what one would want, but good for a tinier eater. Short ribs was soft the egg yolk in the center gave it an added richness which was nice but it already came with alot of sauce and I could see it being to wet for some. The waiter had said their was goatcheese in the dish but I didn't taste it and I didn't care much for the toasted buckwheat on top which gave it like an unnecessary burnt crunch which it would be better off to without. The peach and ricotta dish was interesting and had a good balance. And the vegetarian cabbage steak was actually much better then I expected since I'm a hard core carnivore. The textures were complimentary and was topped with mustard seeds that kinda exploded in your mouth similar to fish roe atop sushi... The tiramisu was the 🌟 of the show! And tbh one of the best if not the best I've had to date. First of all the presentation of it is stunning almost like a pillow dolloped igalloo of mascarpone cream encasing a mound of perfectly soaked lady fingers. This is an absolute must have if you hit this spot up!! Ps. The crusty bread and espresso butter were incredible as well!!! Definitely ate 2 -3 plates of that too !!😋 Overall a 4 stars for ambiance, service, creativity and plating presentation. Still a few flavors that I found needed to be refined in minor ways and a slight cut back on the sauce for certain dishes. I also wish that the menu was a bit more expansive although i get the whole curated take on things, not many more thing but another 2-3 options woulda been nice. Also I know it's fine dinning but I'm still gonna complain about portion sizes as I'm a big eater and despite having share in a 4 course meal along with bread butter and wine I was sufficiently full but not completely satisfied. 🫣😋😅 Definitely a nice treat as I haven't been to a ton of fine dinning restaurants and overall had a lovely experience together with friends.

Service was fantastic! Cozy atmosphere. We enjoyed the wine selection. The Vitello Tonnato is a must try in my opinion. The risi bisi risotto while a surprise in terms of flavour profile and a new experience was a touch too salty for me and the short rib raviolo was good but I think I was expecting more/different.

Visited this restaurant this past weekend for my Birthday and LOVED the food and the ambiance. Our server took the time to address our questions and go through the entire menu with us, which was very helpful. We shared a starter and primi, then each had our own secondi. We started with the cod fritto which was amazing, followed by the arugula pesto pasta (I cannot recall the Italian names for the dishes, sorry). Pictured are our secondis: the salmon e farro and the quail and potato. As the menu seems to change frequently, I would definitely try this place again and would highly recommend.

Good food!! Love the flavours and creativity behind the dishes. I would have liked more steak than the portion they provided. Expected the service to better than we were provided.

The only table available was at the bar, and the staff noticed I was a bit uncomfortable on the bar stool (6 months pregnant). They brought me a comfier chair and a pillow to rest behind my back - I spent my entire visit super comfortable thanks to this small but unforgettable gesture 🥹. I also can’t eat gluten, dairy or eggs, and both the chef and our server took great time and care to figure out what they could offer me. The chef ended up going off menu and creating delicious meals to accommodate me. I usually end up getting a slimmed down version of a dish on the menu, but with these generous offers I didn’t feel like I was getting XYZ without the Y and the Z. I felt like I got the whole alphabet and it meant the world to me! We eat out fairly often and I’ve never had such wonderful treatment, where I didn’t feel like a burden at all. I’m so grateful for how they took care of us. I can’t wait to go back one day ❤️.

The restaurant is basically a house, which makes it very cozy. Lots of nooks and crannies; this helps spreading patrons out in covid times. The food was disappointing. We ordered cured meat and cheese platter, foie gras caramelle pasta, and rib eye. All dishes were overwhelmingly salty. Understandable for cured meat, but not for rib eye or caramelle. Service was iffy as well: we were at the bar, and the bartender seemed hyper-caffeinated, abruptly ending each encounter she had with us to rush off elsewhere. It was unclear why; per covid guidelines the restaurant was operating at reduced capacity. To be fair, her recommendations were on point, and the wine/food pairing didn’t disappoint. But food and service issues made the overall experience quite sub-par, especially considering the $155 bill (dinner for two + two glasses of wine in total).

  • 1/5 Lexy S. 3 years ago on Google
There was barely any pasta on my plate, the tomato sauce was bland and to top it off they put a runny egg on top of the food. I was disgusted. They said the cake was free because it was a birthday but I still got charged for it. Not worth the money. We will not be returning!

Awesome. It is I suppose the fanciest northern Italian restaurant I've ever been in my life. Foods, drinks, and ambience were the greatest. It was Saturday night when I visited, and the first floor was fully packed with happy people who were enjoying foods and drinks. The staff was terrifically professional. The server in gold hair who was serving our table was doing everything she could do to explain menus. The only thing I felt a bit frustrated was there was no explanations for menus. Of course the server did her job perfectly, however I just needed more on paper as a person who forgets in a few secs.

Came here for the first time durning this pandemic and I was very impressed with the cleanliness and social distanceront that is in place for the inside of the restaurant. The food was delicious, shared many plates such as the Parmesan risotto and the salmon but I was so eager to dig in I forgot to take photos before dessert!

We were a bit unsure about ordering an expensive meal and having it delivered. What an awesome surprise, dinner delivered to our door with a smile and the quality was as good as if we were sitting in the restaurant. Kudos to North and Navy for being able to bring this high standard to our home table. We ordered the family dinner for 2 ( don't tell anyone but it could feed 4) We would definitely do this again!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at North and Navy for our anniversary last night. It was our first time going and they did not disappoint. The complimentary glasses of sparkling wine to start the night was such a special touch. The food was delicious - we particularly loved the meatball appetizer. The atmosphere is cozy. My one recommendation would be to give a bit more time between serving courses as it felt a bit quick, but overall amazing experience and we will be back.

  • 3/5 Andrew O. 3 years ago on Google
The take out dinner for 4 was good but was it $400 good? Not convinced. Something about paying that much for food that comes in cardboard takeout containers irked me. The pasta was unbelievable, but the cured meat was lacklustre (the pickled beans being the best part) and the desserts tasted like they were from M&M meats (which isn’t an insult! just an observation!). Glad to help businesses stay afloat during this weird time but prices should reflect that this looked like a meal I could have got from any Italian restaurant on Uber eats - and that would have at least had a delivery option! Excited to dine in person soon!

One of the best Italian places I have tried in Ottawa. The place was cozy and the food was both creative and absolutely delicious. They accommodated all our needs and made sure we found options to meet our food restrictions. The Tiramisu is a must have even if you're absolutely full.

Delicious. Absolutely delicious. We did the Sunday at NoNa and the menu is smaller than the week, but there's something for everyone. We ordered half the apps on the menu, split them and we each did our own main. Their homemade, handmade pasta is simply to die for. The flavours are so deeply deep that I literally paid my bill and wanted to stay another round. See you soon NoNa

Been meaning to try this place and finally came here in November for a friend’s birthday. Food was delicious - we shared the Italian meatballs as an appy and duck breast. Portions are not huge compared to other places, but it was more than enough for me since I’m not a big eater. It’s a cozy place, but it wasn’t too loud so it was nice!

In the running for one of the best Italian restaurants in Ottawa. Innovative yet retaining the roots of traditional cuisine. Their pasta is fresh and just the right resilience against your teeth. The cheese in the arancini spills out when you break into them. Their meatballs have pine nuts and break apart softly when you bite into them. Really appreciate that they've been supporting the local community in this COVID times of trouble Highly recommended and looking forward to visiting once social distancing rules are relaxed

Amazing service and amazing food! Trying to make my wife's first birthday since we've been married special was a challenge, given the pandemic. My worries disappeared when I called North and Navy, however. Not only did they cook us a beautiful takeout meal that we enjoyed on our patio at home, they also went out of their way to correct a small error in our order.
