Since this seems to be a popular spot, try going before or after lunch time to avoid the lineup. Right off the bat, clean restaurant, quick to be seated and friendly staff. Ordered a few different ramen options off the menu, the favorite being the Tonkotsu black. They were served hot and quick and you have the option to pick thick or thin noodles. Tried most of the appetizers as well. They were alright. The seaweed salad was nice but the wings could have been crispier. Loved the sparkling sake they had on the drink menu! Also got the two cheesecake options; mango and yuzu flavour. They weren't the best so would definitely skip it the next time.

We’ve never had a bad meal at Sansotei! All of their ramen is delicious, with our favourites consistently being the tonkotsu black and the miso black. It can get very busy so the staff is great at turning over tables (don’t go during prime hours if you’re hoping to stick around after you’ve finished eating), but everyone is always friendly and the food is amazing!i

Small restaurant usually with a 15-20 minute wait. Tomato ramen was delicious. It comes with a scallop, which I tried but will substitute for more pork next time. Sapporo was refreshing. Quite filling and worth the wait and cost, which is reasonable. Started eating before taking the picture 😞

I have visited Sansotei in both Ottawa and Montreal over 10 times by now, and the quality is always amazing! We love a consistent ramenya 🍜 the black garlic and miso ramen are my favorites. The Bank St. (Ottawa) location is nice but it's a bit small - so please call to get a reservation before going to ensure you have a spot.

This place is great and there is always a line up out the door every time I go. I always get the spicy tan tan and it always amazing. Just the right amount of spice and a very satisfying broth. You should definitely go here. I also think this place is a great value for money too.

It was nice and delicious tonkotsu ramen. The broth was packed with flavours, thick cut chashu yummmm. We didn’t make any reservations but we were seated with 10-15 mins. Staffs are very friendly and the service was quick.

Overall a relaxing and pleasant dinner experience, even though the restaurant is busy. Decoration was good, the staff was kind and made a good suggestion for drinks, and ramen was overall nice. The ramen dish had garlic oil which was a bit bitter, but I'll give it a second try within a few weeks to see if that's how the recipe is, or if it was an accident (which can happen, of course). Also, that ramen worked on my stomach for hours, which is not a usual thing to happen to me, but again, I'll give it another try in the future.

I really, really love Sansotei, so this review hurts to write. But as someone who gets their ramen via take out each week, there's been a real decline. In short, there's just no broth. The order I got today had so little broth that I thought they had forgotten it at first. I get that the pandemic has been tough but you wouldn't think an extra cup or two of broth would be that expensive. It's gotten to the point where I'm considering looking for another go to ramen restaurant. I really hope this changes.

I've been here since they first opened summer of 2016. I can't believe it's been 5 years and I'm still ordering the same dish from here - the venerable 'Tonkotsu Black'. They've expanded their menu quite a bit since then but I'm still faithful to my original choice. It's the only place that would satisfy all my kid's varying palettes. This location is busy and for good reason. Fortunately, there isn't too long of a lineup during off hours during this pandemic era. The Merivale location is just as great and believe it or not, the King St location in downtown Toronto is smaller than the Bank St one. It's a testament to the recipe and commitment to quality ramen for I've found the taste pretty much the same in all 3 locations I've tried. Can you see that I'm super biased in my review? Keep up the great work - my vote for best ramen franchise in Ottawa!!

Great experience at Sansotei Ramen. Service was super fast on a Saturday at lunch. And staff was really nice! The place itself has a nice interior design. Food: Gyozas were so yummy! I had the tonkotsu+. It was good but I will try something more popular next time. My boyfriend had miso black, it was good!

We’ve been meaning to check this place out for a while and we popped up very last minute, towards closing time and the staff made us feel extremely welcome and unrushed! The ramen was so good, we ended up getting a third one to go - the “12” is really nice, simple and a fantastic value! Everything from the aesthetic to the cleanliness is top notch! PS: Peppers and oils are available for those that want to spice things up!

Very authentic experience with high quality food that will blow you away at a very affordable price. Small but mighty restaurant that is bubbling with customers. Its likely that you'll have to wait a little as space is limited but it's more than worth the wait. To maximize your experience I would suggest you order the fried chicken entrees, with a Ramen and fruit sake. I'd recommend steering away from gyozas and meatballs as they pale in comparison to the other much more flavorful options. The restaurant is very quick to seat you and serve your food and as such is a valid options for people with little time on their hands.

Hands down the best ramen place in town!! Their shio ramen was perfectly cooked, nice texture of the noodle and optimally sauced broth, not too saucy and not too bland. Negi gyoza (onion dumplings) was just awesome, with its nice brown skin and juicy stuffing and the negi (onions) gives the gyozas a fresh, minty/sour highlight! Definitely not on the pricier side at all! Just being served by the amazingly pleasant, nice lady (looks like she’s the owner?) and the hard-working, more-than-polite staff made my whole day so happy and grateful. No wonder it always has a long line no matter what time of the day. 夏にまた来ます!今日は本当にありがとうございました!

Nestled in the heart of activity, the restaurant boasts a vibrant and snug ambiance, creating a perfect blend of energy and intimacy. The delightful scent of mouth-watering dishes wafts through the air, enhancing the overall sensory experience. Despite the lively buzz, the atmosphere is cozy, inviting patrons to savor each moment. Our visit was truly elevated by the exquisite flavors of the tomato ramen, a culinary masterpiece that left a lasting impression. The bustling yet welcoming vibe, combined with the exceptional gastronomic offerings, made for an unforgettable dining adventure.

Really good ramen!! I recommend the black tonkotsu and the tonkotsu ramen. The broth has a strong flavor and the pork belly is very tender. The staff is friendly and the service is super fast. They even decorated for halloween🎃. Definitely recommend!

One of my FAVORITE ramen places in Ottawa! My go-to soups is their Tonkotsu ramen. It is pork broth based. The broth was super creamy and savoury, and very comforting. So happy to find more good ramen options in the city.

Finally a ramen place where the noodles don’t resemble instant noodles! Highly recommend! Service was good though my waitress made the choice to ask me “how are you finding the food” at the exact moment when I had my face buried deep in the bowl slurping and noodles dangling out my mouth. Lol

Superb ramen! Like being in Japan again! There were already 4 ramen types sold out at 7pm. We tried a) the MAZEMEN ramen, a veggie version that was oily and smoky and b) the TONKOTSU plus. Arrive early and enjoy.

Great little "hole in the wall" with traditional Japanese greeting, attention to service, and soups. Signature dishes were absolutely delicious with incredible flavours and generous portions. No wonder there is usually a wait line (nothing unreasonable) to eat there

I am genuinely baffled at how this place could possibly gather less than 5 stars. If I could rate it a 10 out of 5, I would do it in a heartbeat! My best friend and I are regulars, and we agree that this place is PHENOMENAL!!! The staff is always so friendly and kind. They never judge us despite our complicated orders and are always more than happy to make sure the order is correct. The service is truly impeccable. Not only is the service fantastic, but the food is exquisite! Everything we’ve tried, we’ve ADORED. The tonkotsu black is our personal favourite, and frankly, I could eat it every single day of my life without ever getting tired of it. The pork belly is sublime, the broth is to die for, the noodles are perfectly chewy, I used to be terrified of runny egg yolks and this place taught me that I actually LOVE it! Every single friend I’ve introduced to this place told me I got them hooked! 10/5 would recommend. Wonderful place!

The ramen dishes were delicious and generous portions. Service was lovely. The place gets busy and the door remained open because of the lineup, so we were a bit cold. But definitely worth it!

I absolutely love Sensotei Ramen, you can't really beat the price-portion difference, that said, the ramen quality is excellent! Totally recommend having a lunch here, if you're able to get a seat!

Definitely the best ramen in Ottawa. I usually get the miso ramen with black garlic oil. My wife likes the tonkotsu (rich pork broth) with black garlic oil, but their whole menu is great, and the staff are very sweet. Even through the pandemic, they run a fast, consistent operation. Glad this place exists!

The ramen here is always amazing. Lots of different broth to choose from and the pork just melts in your mouth. Been here many times and will continue to come back regularly.

Got the spicy tantan! Broth was super flavourful! Noodle was a good texture! I liked how the bamboo shoots topping cut the grease. Bit of a line as per usual but didn't have to wait too too long.

Overhyped Japanese Ramen place. The broth is very salty meaning it's trying to hide something. The noodle quality is very typical and nothing special. The pork Cha Shu is razor thin and only 3 slices. I have to pay extra for more pork and I wasn't even full. Overall very pricey for the quality I am getting.

Waited in line outside on Tuesday night but it was worth it. It was the best ramen I've ever had outside of Japan. We ordered the gyozas, tonkotsu black and tomato ramen. Tomato ramen was our favourite, would love to come back and try the others! The customer service was exceptional, they greeted us just like in Japan and also thanked us in Japanese before we left 😊. If you want a true Japanese ramen experience go here!!

It's one of the best places to grab ramen in Ottawa. Their dine in experience is super efficient, in and out in 30-45 min. The broth in the black garlic ramen is super rich and addictive and I find the noodle texture to be superb.

We were in the mood for some ramen and this place was not far from where we were. At first I was skeptical about the number of reviews and high ratings. But I have to say that this ramen place is excellent. The service could not have been more professional and friendly. Their ramen was absolutely delicious and the price was extremely reasonable. I would frequent this ramen place if I were living in this neighborhood.

You just cannot match this place to any other ramen spot in Ottawa. This is one of the BEST ramen in town. I eat here at least 4 times a month because it’s just that good and super tasty!! Tam Tam is my favourite and my go to because it has a little spicy kick to it. I believe I’ve tried all of their ramen and Tam Tam is in the top.

I cannot enjoy ramen anywhere else, now that I have had sansotei ♡ the most flavourful, delicious ramen I've ever had !!!!!!!! Good quality and quantity for the price, quick and friendly service, lovely atmosphere ♡ its always busy because the food is so good !

I've been ordering from Sansotei all year long, because I love their ramen and also to encourage local businesses, however I've noticed that as time goes, the level of broth in the bowls goes down. Yesterday I ordered again and the bowl was literally half empty. When I asked for more broth I was told I had to pay an extra 2$ for it. Really?? I'm very disappointed and I'll be trying new places in the coming months.

  • 5/5 Julie 1 year ago on Google
Came here right after opening so I didn’t have to wait. But while I was there, many people started coming in for eating here or takeout older so I could tell this place is very busy place. I had tonkotsu black. I didn’t expect the taste as I know Japanese ramen quite well so I shouldn’t expect better tasting out side of Japan. However, this ramen was really tasty and it was more than I expected! I definitely recommend this place.

  • 5/5 Jonathan L. 3 years ago on Google
Best Ramen in the city. At the risk of sounding blasphemous, it's as good if not better than ramen you'd find in Japan. Even during the COVID19 they're able to keep their quality food and service. It needs to be said: if you intend to dine-in you need a reservation. Today I had the Spicy Tan Tan, absolutely delicious.

I’ve been to three ramen shops is Ottawa and Santosei Ramen is definitely the best one so far. I ordered the Tonkotsu Black ramen, which had garlic oil mixed into the standard broth, and two big pieces of Chashu, black fungus and a perfectly cooked egg. On the side I ordered the Zangi chicken, very similar to Karaage, but had larger pieces and more juicy meat. The location is great, and the staff was really chill. If someone ever tells me they’ve never had authentic ramen, I’ll 100% be taking them here.

Great ramen. The meat was delectable. Noodles were the right kind of thick as well. The shiitake mushrooms were excellent to chew on, very flavourful and juicy. The restaurant was quite busy, but I was able to wait a bit for a table for 1. Service was quick and efficient, very clean as well. The zangi was great too.

Ramen that rivals the kind of Ramen you'd find in a food haven city like LA, NY, etc. Really tasty, maybe a tad too salty at times.

  • 5/5 Tom Y. 3 years ago on Google
Though it's a chain, best ramen place in Ottawa which is what the 5 stars is for. There aren't that many options otherwise. Sansotei gets the job done when you want that opaque broth that hits deep. The pork belly can be hit or miss at times with the tenderness but overall, you won't get that much better in this town! And the prices are reasonable. The appetizers are pretty good actually - gyoza can sometimes be overcooked but the fried chicken seems to be consistently on point. They introduced their own beer Tokyo Gold recently which is pretty damn good (Far Yeast brewing company - thumbs up to the pun!). It's also 5 dollars. So get it.
