Delicious food and great price! The owners are super humble and friendly wwhich makes the whole experience even better. The restuarant is small but the turnover is fast. I’ll probably do takeout next time.

This place has been my go-to during my undergrad years. Always very filling, nice noodles, and I especially always enjoy their wonton dumplings. The protein on the noodles are always a dry, fyi, but that doesn’t stop me from coming here. Very reasonably priced, and good food overall!

You wouldn't normally associate Ottawa with good, authentic Chinese street food but this amazing hole-in-the-wall just proves the thought wrong. I fell in love with their wontons drenched in peanut sauce when I was here last year; ordered again during my recent visit and it was just as great. The wontons were huge - the portion doesn't look that big but you will be filled. And the price was still incredibly affordable given the inflation these days. Plus, the interior furnishings remind me of those street-side restaurants in a typical Chinese city. Would highly recommend!

Delicious food and fresh ingredients at reasonable prices. I was surprised to see that the noodles were fresh! For half an hour, I was back to China. So far, the "Chinesest" place we've been since we came to Canada. The staff seemed to be tired (only 2), and yet they had the patience to our silly attempts to speak Mandarin and they took the time to explain to us how to order online. I'll surely come back when I'm around Rideau!

Tasty tasty tasty dumplings and noodles. Great value for the money. Generously sized servings. Not the best decor but you are here for the good food and value especially on a cold day, nothing hits the spot like a big bowl of wonton in a steaming hot broth!

Came on Wednesday for the sesame noodles which I have to admit I didn’t enjoy. They were super pasty. However, I decided to try out the soup and pork&mushroom dumplings and they are really good! Don’t let the appearance of the place fool you. The best restaurants are holes in the walls.

This place is a good place to eat cheap - and local. There’s nothing you can go wrong with this, you can taste the family owned business right away when you walk in. We got the beef noodles soup- everything was amazing the beef was really tender and there were a lot of noodles (that most of us couldn’t finish). The dry noodles were also really delicious. The pork wonton soup comes with 15 wontons and they’re actually pretty filling itself for the price of $8-9. Amazing place. The only downside is that the tables smells funky and the place is old. The building looks very old too. Overall, really yummy either way! Will be returning

A very small family owned restaurant. Food is made freshly and tasty. For the price you can’t complain too much about the atmosphere.

A nice small restaurant for quick, cozy meals. Tried their beef noodle, pork wonton in peanut sauce, and deep fried wonton. Pork wontons in peanut sauce were very nice, very flavourful. The peanut sauce was tasty. The beef in the beef noodle was so tender. It was definitely one of my favourite things. The clean soup base was so cozy. The deep fried wontons were filled with very blend meat. But the fried skin was amazing. The fried skin is super crisp but it's also very chewy, so texture-wise it was a pleasure to eat. Each table seems to have different sauces. I assume you just ask your neighboring table if you want a specific sauce. If it's your first time, you order at the front and sit down to wait for your meal. They bring your meal to you.

The restaurant's atmosphere is acceptable, possibly because the couple running it lack sufficient time and energy to thoroughly clean each table. I ordered a beef hot-dry noodle, a seasoned egg, and a small-sized wonton broth for my lunch. The noodles were alright, with only a few pieces of beef and no sauce. The seasoned egg tasted pretty much like the ones I make at home. As for the wonton broth, it had a thin consistency and was filled with a generous amount of meat, which was impressive. However, the broth leaned towards being oily. During my trip back from Montreal, I tried another Shanghai-style restaurant, also run by a couple. Lastly, it's worth noting that only three parking slots are available on the street, each with a 20-minute time limit. I highly recommend walking to the place instead.

Cheap price with big portions and authentic food. I always can get full here with around $10. Delicious wonton soup and beef noodles🤤Perfect place to eat when you’re lazy to cook but don’t want to spend too much

Time and time again, year after year I keep coming back for more. This is neither your quiet night dinner nor your date spot. This is a homely chinese diner that will satisfy your late night cravings, hearty/warm meals, and quick bites. Highly recommend all different types of peanut wontons, fried wontons, small wonton soups and the marinated egg and chicken side dishes!

Just wonton, But not Shanghainese style. Not bad though in Ottawa. It would be better if the xiao wonton wrap is thinner. Fried wontons could have some part not that deep fried. Shanghainese fry wonton just lightly fried and with peanut butter sauce and vinegar. Still a good experience. Would feel safer if they checked the vaccine status.

Stopped by during a lunch break for first aid training I was doing further up Rideau Street today. Wonton soup was really good! The dumplings themselves are huge. Next time I’ll try the wontons in peanut sauce or noodles.

Soul food, just what I needed. Wonderful simple little wonton house. Had the pork and mushroom which was delicious. Broth is not too oily which is just like home cooking. Definitely give it a try, especially as the weather gets chilly.

Whether in person or take out, I have always had a great experience at Shanghai Wonton! The Pork Dry Noodle is fantastic and you get a very good portion for only 9$ (11$ on Uber)! Would highly recommend giving this place a try next time you are looking for something to eat!

Hole in the wall, no frills, cheap eats. Recommend just the soup dumplings. Fried dumplings were overly done with old oil, avoid!! Beef noodles mediocre, thin sliced, and there’s a spoonful heap of MSG added to it. Dirty kitchen.

Nothing special. Fried wontons were a little doughy, dry noodles were too rich with sesame paste for my taste, wonton soup was simple and pretty good. For the price, not a horrible experience.

Yummmmmyyy, incredible prices for the quality of food. I’ve dined in and also ordered delivery from this place and both were great (although I’d highly recommend you choose to dine-in!! The atmosphere of the restaurant is great)

This was the first time trying Shanghai Wonton Noodle Restaurant and I'm so happy we did! Not only is it super affordable - you also get LARGE portions. There was enough for atleast two meals and cost $13 in total. The steak was SUPER tender and seasoned well. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the broth was not to salty and was very flavourful. The broccoli stems were also very well cooked. This would be the perfect meal for lunch, dinner or late night snack. The only thing lacking would be a little upgrade to the seating/restaurant atsmophere with decorations. Would happily return to eat here again.

The best pork wontons and broth I’ve ever had!! Nice to feel like I’m eating at home while traveling. Great price and big portions.

We got Beef Hot-Dry Noodle w/ Sesame Sauce and Pork Shepherd’s Purse Big Wonton Soup. The Noodle came in a HUGE portion, mixed with Sesame Sauce, Pickled Radish, Peanuts, Scallions, topped with tender Beef slices, LOVED IT! The Wonton here were INSANELY GOOD, authentic Shanghainese Style with a thicker wrapper, loaded with Shepherd’s Purse (type of Chinese Veg) mixed in Pork, Wood Ear Mushroom slices, HOLYMOLY, almost teared up while eating it!!

The beef noodle is good. The veggie pork large wonton is also good. But the small one is a bit overcooked so it is too soft. There are only 3 staff so it is slow. We waited for around 20 mins to have our food.

I had the #6, fried pork and mushroom dumplings. Super hot and fresh out of the oil, super crispy! Comes with a side of seasoned soy sauce. Plus chili oil on the table available for every table. Big chunks of mushrooms in the dumplings too! Will definitely be back when I need dumplings in downtown Ottawa 🥟

Great food for the price. Rare thing post-pandemic. The fried dumplings were a little doughy. Everything else was good.

Amazing spot, bit of a hole in the wall but worth heading slightly off the tourist path. Hand made dumplings in broth or delicious peanut sauce with spicy chili oil. Was a fantastic spot I can't wait to go to again.

Wontons have thick skins and once you bite into them they break down into the skin and filling (a meatball), disappointed. Chicken drumsticks are surprisingly good tho lol

I’d give them another star if possible. Pork Wonton Soup (Shepard’s Purse) is amazing. The beef noodle soup is also very good. Ridiculously good.
