Amazing spot in Byward market for lunch and definitely one of the best sandwich spots in the city! The sandwiches are amazing quality, super fresh & really well priced (I believe they were $7.95 over the summer). Great place to grab lunch for a picnic in Major Hills park! They also have amazing grocery items and lots of Italian imports.

Great Italian grocery store offering a lot of Italian goods that you can't find anywhere else! Good selection of coffee, oil, pasta sauce, cheese, olives, and more.

I regret not visiting this place before! Never knew inside of the store was big and it had so many unique products to buy. I finally got my hands on chestnut puree! 🌰 They also have pistachio cream, and triple chocolate biscotti which I liked very much.

I used to rave about the sandwiches that I used to get all the time during university. I would tell any and all colleagues visiting to come and try the sandwiches at Bottega especially being in the travel industry. Having not been back in years I was craving to taste them again. I asked the gentleman to make two of his favourite combination sandwich and I got two of these. Did policy get implemented? Did I just get unlucky? My memories of these sandwiches used to be so substantial. Not sure how I feel anymore about going back for them. The store itself though is fantastic. Great selection of items.

Had a bad experience where I ordered a turkey sandwich and was given ham which I don’t eat for religious reasons. I clued in after a bite and returned it to the store. The cashier seemed genuinely sympathetic and offered to have a new sandwich made which was declined and they gave my money back. I am sure it was an honest mistake but they need to be careful over this type of thing. It may be a minor mistake to them but it is a major issue for me.

Amazing market and even better sandwiches. There was a super long line but that always means that the food is great. They did have 100 different cheeses but only three different options and when it came down to put in your sandwich. Other than that the service was amazing and the employees were extremely friendly. For a nine dollar sandwich I would recommend this place to everyone.

If you haven't been here already you need to go! They have an awesome little shop where you can buy tonnes of different kinds of pasta and sauces! The deli inside makes delicious sandwiches and you can also buy Italian wines from here! Needless to say this is a one stop shop to grab a great sandwich, drink and dessert for a little romantic meal or picnic! We loved this place and the staff were friendly too.

I've been shopping here for 5+ years and love it. The sandwiches are well priced, packed with meat and delicious. I exclusively get my olive oil and pasta from here whenever it is on sale! Keep a lookout for their flyer, lots of good items at a good price!!

All the condiments and antipasto type foods you can possibly want .. and the deli meats and cheeses are **chefs kiss** need a quick espresso or the kind of build your own sandwich that will make Tony Soprano jealous.. this is your spot ! La Bottega even has a really cool selection of merch..Drop in check it out .. I can assure you it won’t be your last visit

My favorite place in Ottawa for sure. Absolutely incredible selection of food, snacks, cheese, you name it. I'm going to hit them up once Morea before the flight home for an Italian creme cake and another mortadello and spicy eggplant sandwich.

Wow! Not only is this a great store but the prices are very reasonable. Check out the "wall of pasta" on your left as you enter the store and the cheeses at the back. Staff is super friendly. It's well worth the trip, I highly recommend.

TLDR: Boutique Italian grocer with New York Bottega vibes in the heart of Ottawa. A family runned business that you MUST check out if visiting the Byward Market. Packed with all your Italian essentials including hard to find items that regular grocery stores don’t provide. This is the store your friend’s Nonna will recommend you check out. A solid 5 out 5 on the total shopping and food experience. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey family, Here’s my honest review of La Bottega Nicastro. I made the visit with my partner in May, 2022 and I wanted to share my personal experience with you below: Location: 1 star. Located in the Nation’s Capital, La Bottega finds itself nestled in the famous Byward Market. The store isn’t difficult to miss as you will see some outdoor seating and many patrons coming and going. If you ask any local in the area where to find the store they can easily point you in the right direction. Staffing: 1 star. As this is a family runned business most of the staff share the same family values. All departments are well staffed including the deli, hot table and check-outs. We asked a staff member for some assistance and they were happy to assist. No attitude or lack of respect as some previous reviewers mentioned. Food: 1 star. All of your bakery and Italian classics are available for dine-in or take-out. We unfortunately didn’t buy anything to eat as we were just visiting but the sandwiches did look good. Service: 1 star. The store can be busy as it receives a lot of daily visitors or locals who visit the shop daily. On the day we visited it wasn’t too busy so there are no complaints there. Wow factor: 1 star Bottegas success comes from its rich history in the city. The wow factor has to be how well stocked the store is, the plenty of rare food items it offers and its unique business model of wholesale foods, hot table, deli, bakery and some kitchenware items. The store can be a bit overwhelming but rest assured it’s all worth it. If you're looking for that rare olives you tried at a family gathering I can almost guarantee you’ll find it at this store. If you’re planning a visit to Ottawa ON, especially the Byward market area in the new year, I strongly recommend checking this store out. I give it a rare 5 out of 5 stars. Until next time…

Loved this little shop with the café in the back! Had a late lunch and it was so good. The rabbit parfait was delicious and they have a very nice selection of wines and a very well stocked market. You must buy some of the Parma Prosciutto (outstanding quality), a baguette, some cheese, olives and maybe a bottle of wine to enjoy for a laid back night after a long day sightseeing, you will not regret it. Looking forward to coming back!

The service is exceptional and there is a great variety of products. I heard rave reviews of the heart shaped raviolis available on Valentine’s day. Will make sure not to miss out on this opportunity next year!

Best Italian Deli around town. Wonderful selection of Italian groceries including a wide selection of processed meats and other stuff. As for eating there, some people maybe put off place being really small but food is just amazing and so are the servers.. always wished if they could be open for longer hours!!

Need one of these were we live! My wife is 1st generation Italian Canadian and there was NOTHING she couldn't find. From every imaginable regional and specialty infused olive oil to Italian snacks, cheeses, meats they have EVERYTHING. Now...about opening a store in our neck of the woods?

  • 5/5 Rachel R. 3 years ago on Google
Great selection of pastas, sauces, coffee, cheeses and more. They have a wine section as well as a deli counter with sandwiches, pastries and coffee. It’s on the pricier side but everything is delicious and they have a great selection of products from Italy. They also have great gluten free selections.

I love cheese and my weekly trip to La Bottega never disappoints. Today’s find: French Camembert for 4.99$. Best selection and prices that I’ve seen. Plus many other yummy things!

Best italian deli in downtown Ottawa, hand's down. They're most famous for their sandwiches, but their range of cold meats and cheeses is also phenomenal. It's overall a well-stocked European Deli. I recommend it to everyone popping over for a visit.

Definitely my go to place for Italian Sandwiches, cookies and groceries. Just the sheer amount of cookies they have in this place is amazing. To top it off, there's stuff in here you'd probably not heard of or find elsewhere.

The Best this side of Italy. Selection..quality..fair prices. If you have not been...wow you are missing out. The pride of the Byward Market.....Ciao.!

Very crowded, as in hard to move arround without bumping into something, but the prices are often lower than loblaws. Also the sandwiches are great, seriously.

  • 5/5 Samantha Ste M. 2 years ago on Google
Such amazing sandwiches! My husband will often bring a couple home for lunch after he's done work. My FAVE part about their sandwiches is how well they stand up for a day. I might only eat half and by the next day it's still as fresh as the day before. I don't know how they do it but you never find sandwiches that don't go mushy after just a couple hours!

  • 5/5 Colette R. 2 years ago on Google
This is a lovely little Italian market with all the charm and intoxicating scents that go along with it! Whatever you're looking for they are likely to have and many varieties there of... The service is very good and staff incredibly friendly. I highly suggest you make it a regular stop in your grocery schedule. *Gluten-free options available

If you are Italian or appreciate Italian culture this is the place to go! It's an Ottawa staple and hands down makes the best sandwich you'll ever eat! They are super generous with their portions. The quality of everything in the store is top notch including the service! I also love their apparel! It's amazing! Thank you to Rocco for always personalizing the experience 🙏

We stopped in to grab a sandwich from the deli counter. There are a good variety of bread options, the focaccia was by far our favorite. All the ingredients were high quality. There were lots of specialty items at the store. Definitely worth stopping in and giving their sandwiches a try.

Strike 3 for the Deli Bar…. We had their sandwiches last week, and for the 3rd time, they were abysmal. Our soft panini bread was stale, toppings barely noticeable and worst of all, the amount of meat was about 1/4 of what it was a year ago. I reached out by email to express my disappointment, their response was that “the bread was all baked fresh that day “ and “the true price should be around $15.00”. Really??? I have been shopping here since the place opened for my imported Italian foods, however I will not buy another sandwich at their deli bar again. In addition, the customer service has also taken a nose dive. Rude and unfriendly staff as of late (newer ones)Time to pick up your socks La Bottega. Take some of the profits from the 500 sandwiches you claim to have made last Wednesday and invest in some customer service training.

I've been shopping here for years. Prices are reasonable, great selection of products, helpful staff, and delicious sandwiches, coffee, and pre-made meals make it one of my favourite stores in Ottawa. As well, prices for many deli meats and cheese are much cheaper than grocery stores - and quality is better too. I've recommended the store to many people over the years due to all this.

A great place to purchase good products. The prices might be a bit high--due to being located in a high tourist location--but the quality and selection is top notch! The staff is very friendly. Recently, me and my girlfriend were shopping there and could not find some caramelized onion jam. We asked a staff member who asked around to tell us that they did not have any. Cut to a few minutes later while at the cash register, the same staff member came to us with two bottles of caramelized onion jam. She told us that she knew that they had some and spend a few minutes searching for it. We were quite impressed by her dedication. She could have easily move on to other tasks, but decided to help us out. A must-go place if you are in the area and looking for some great items and sandwiches to eat.

  • 5/5 S G. 3 years ago on Google
Best sandwiches in the market and a good shop for niche kitchen staples, too. There is usually a line-up and it's worth the wait. The outdoor seating area is limited due to the market location, but Ottawa people are friendly and we routinely double-up at a table when only 1 or 2 seats are taken. Does anyone buy a toddler-sized jar of Nutella? Great outdoor view while eating.

I feel so lucky to have this amazing Italian shop in my neighborhood, and there are such friendly folks working there. The absolute best place to have lunch and to shop for you groceries in the city. Their sandwiches are amazing and sold very fast. There's a variety of different Italian baked goods and salads and pastas and pastries and olive and oil... and the delis are unbeatable. Overall, you get a diverse choice of Italian products for very reasonable prices.. La Bottega is not just a sandwich and pasta and grocery store it is a family friendly place with amazing food and very friendly staff. They are very inclusive and they will treat you very well whoever you are and they are always willing to help the customers with a smile on their face.

Love this little gem of a shop! Prices are reasonable and so much selection! I stock up on pasta, antipesto, sauces and snacks when I’m in the market.

  • 5/5 Dennis S. 3 years ago on Google
Always fantastic food and groceries here, excellent choice and quality. Distancing rules posted at door and aisles have one-way signs. I felt safe but it can sometimes feel a bit crowded, would be nice for the owners to implement a maximum # of customers rule, at least for the time being.

  • 4/5 Rashid M. 3 years ago on Google
Anytime I get the chance to stop by I'd be sure to pickup an Italian sandwich and since they are dressed the way you like them, I ask for spicy eggplants every time. Their sandwich goes very nicely with a fresh cup of their regular brewed Illy coffee. Just love this coffee! The store tends to be on the pricy side but you can find some good deals in their weekly featured items.

  • 5/5 Mony M. 3 years ago on Google
If I could clone La Bottega and bring them to my neighbourhood, I wouldn't hesitate for one second. Amazing selection of imported items like dried pasta, sauces, condiments, cookies, etc and also house-baked items like biscotti makes La Bottega a fantastic stop in the Byward Market area of Ottawa. Not to mention, they have an amazing selection of wines in the back of the store, delicious house-made sandwiches and a little restaurant (now doing takeout only) that makes some of the most delicious Italian cuisine you can have in the Ottawa area. They also have special events and catering and offer items like Wine Advent Calendars and jaw-dropping charcuterie boards to go. If you need cheese, deli meat or grocery items, you will find it all at La Bottega! As well as a neat little espresso bar to boot! THE BEST.

Just had the La Bottega at Home meal for two. This time it was warm tomato artichoke bruschetta with whole grain focaccia, insalata, and turkey meatballs in a white wine lemon herb sauce with spinach and whole wheat orzo. Even had a "healthy-ish" tiramisu (made with yogurt). Every bite was incredible. We added a wine and the pairing was perfection. And the price was less than half of what we would pay at a nice restaurant ($107, including the wine). Will 100% be picking this up again.
