The bed is hard as a rock. My room was SUPER tiny. It was like a dorm room. There are only nine floors. I stayed on the ninth floor and my view was a brick wall. You can’t open the bathroom door without it smashing into the toilet. The only positives is that it is a clean hotel and the room had a cool headboard that lit up. Paid $800 for four nights. Definitely not worth it and won’t be returning.

Very clean rooms. The front desk was helpful and friendly. However, parking is $28 a day. Breakfast is an additional $22 for buffet style. Excellent location - walking distance to many nearby attractions. Check out is 12pm.

Poor quality hotel in a general state of disrepair. Most annoyingly you cannot control the temperature in your room because it’s centrally controlled - my room is 24.5 degrees which makes it challenging to sleep. The only solutions were to pack up and move to a room on a lower floor or to get a ventilation fan. The mattress is also of an extremely poor quality. It’s unfortunate because the one thing you need on business trips is somewhere comfortable to sleep.

Over modern and updated hotel with cozy rooms and consistent cleaning. My room didn't have a conditioner bottle in it. Great location across from the mall and parking is easy to get too, but very tight if you aren't used to underground parking. In room coffee is pretty good. Definitely would stay here again. No breakfast included

Most of the room was clean enough, with the exception of our moldy ice bucket, but everything else about our stay was miserable. The room was tiny, and the walls paper thin. The neighbours on one side yelled and fought all night. The room in the other side was vacant but the alarm clock was left on and beeped for an hour, starting at 6am. We had two young kids with us and the beds are really high, so we pushed them together so no one would hurt themselves falling out. We had leftovers from a big meal and we were happy to have a fridge in the room but then the fridge stopped working in the night, so we had to throw all of our food away. We tried to let the staff know that the fridge was broken and they completely blew us off. Definitely not a family-friendly hotel. The parking is awful and difficult to fit any size of vehicle besides a compact car or motorcycle. I didn't have high expectations with the price we paid but I wouldn't go back for any deal.

The only good thing about my experience here was the location. Starting with the room: fire alarm goes off with any heat (e.g coming out of a shower) and the safe was not working. The entire floor smells bad and not fresh. Parking dedicated to the hotel is small. The ticket they give you for your stay with “in and out” privileges may not work and say it expired before your check out, and you may get a grumpy parking lot employee telling you that’s not how in and out privileges work. If you need to leave earlier for whatever reason, emergency or bad forecast, they will allow you to check out early BUT you still end up paying for your whole stay. What’s funny is that they said: inform us when you leave so we can inform housekeeping. During my stay some elevators were not working, and only one elevator goes down to the garage. Would not recommend staying here, many options around with similar or better quality.

I stayed at a beautiful room on the 9th floor, room 918. The view was amazing! Colourful because I got to see the Ottawa Art Gallery building plus I got to see the moon! The service was efficient, friendly and courteous ! I enjoyed the Menu and local wine list! The housekeeping team always smiling and saying hello gave it a very personalized touch! I highly recommend a weekend away to Ottawa and stay at Novotel, they are very well located !

Very nice hotel! Room had plenty of space and all amenities were available at the room or bathroom. Bed was comfortable and shower was good (no bath). Bar is a very nice place with attention for decoration so it turned out to be a very good location to unwind after a day of walking through Ottowa. Only suggestion here is to take a look at the snack menu and offer some finger food. Breakfast was more then good with a chef at your order to make fresh pancakes or eggs. Finally location is good, everything is in walking range. But take a cab when arriving by train. Special thanks to the staff of the front desk for quickly resolving an error and to the bar and breakfast staff for being so attentive during our stay.

The hotel itself was nice. Staff were very personable. The bed was something else though. No sheet just some cheap duvet. The pillows were so thick that it hurt my neck. I ended up leaving at 3am because there was no way I was going to be able to sleep. It was very disappointing and a huge waste of money.

I don't normally leave reviews. And if I do, I usually go full out Karen. But honestly, I told the staff that I would leave them review because honestly I've never had such good service. The parking lot is a bit confusing at first, but woman who worked at the front desk actually walked me all the way to my truck at the end of her shift to show me exactly where I had to go. The rooms were absolutely spotless, the food was 5/5 and I will definitely be staying here again! Thank you for the great stay 😊😊

Very convenient location and close to many restaurants. Good services. Nice Arran soap and shampoo. Bed is uncomfortable and no flat sheet for a 4-star hotel (how is this 4 star?) Extremely small room only good enough for short stay and very light travel, no drawers, no night stands, no seating area.

Great location, friendly staff and decent rooms. Highly displeased with the parking especially after paying 30$ per night. Highly under-maintained, dirty and not at all worth the money. Overall a good place but could be better in terms of the brand Novotel carries.

The room was comfortable, but I did not like the duvet on the bed. My preference would be to have a separate sheet under the duvet. When I opened the curtains, the view was garbage which was very unpleasant. There was no handrail in the shower which for me, as a senior, presented a safety issue. All bathrooms in hotels should have safety rails in the shower/bath.

I enjoyed my stay except for two issues. The first, there was no 'do not disturb' sign to hang on our door. We did not want housekeeping coming in to our room, so we stopped by the front desk and told them so. The front desk said they would tell housekeeping not to come in our room. Of course, housekeeping came into our room anyways. They didn't even replace the 'do not disturb' sign in our room. The second is the 'refrigerator' in our room. I'm a nursing mother and I was storing milk in the fridge. After a day I noticed it wasn't as cold as I think it should be. When I called the front desk they informed me that it's NOT a refrigerator, it's a cooler. How idiotic. It's standard practice to have a fridge in hotel rooms for people to keep medicine or other necessary things like breast milk cold. If you are going to provide something that looks identical to a refrigerator but won't keep things cold, there needs to be a label on the appliance, informing you. Really, it should be a refrigerator to begin with. Had I known I needed to bring milk down for the front desk to store, that would have been fine, but why would I when there a 'refrigerator' in my room? Being a nursing mother is so difficult, and realizing that a whole day and a half worth of milk had been ruined because it hadn't been cold enough was devastating. I was so upset I couldn't sleep our last night there. (and this was the first time my husband and I have gotten away from our two children so we could actually get a full night's sleep, so doubling disappointing) I'm still upset, a week later. I didn't think privacy and having a refrigerator were such difficult things but apparently Novotel can't do those things, so I won't be staying with them again. It's a shame because, otherwise the hotel was nice.

Our experience started with using the indoor parking which was under construction during our stay. We had to navigate through a little maze to get inside the building once we parked. We followed the many signs and it led us to the basement which was also under construction. The elevators were out of service. We had to spend 10 minutes figuring out which door would get us to the lobby and in the end we took the freight elevator. We arrived at the lobby and overall it was disappointing. It is very outdated and not very well maintained. One strong point however was the great service we got at the service desk. We stayed for one romantic night, on the 8th floor in January. The romantic package we bought was Ok. The room was clean and just Ok. The TV had no HD channels, in 2024. We wanted to try the hot tub, but it was out of service. We didn't sleep well during our stay as it was 23.5 degrees in our room, at night in January. We stopped the heater, the fan was not working and even with the window opened, the room we were in had no way of getting some breeze. We called the front desk and there was no way to get the ac working as the system was in winter mode. The Albion Rooms restaurant was the highlight of our stay. We really enjoyed the food, service and the cozy atmosphere. The buffet (breakfast) was also amazing for the same reasons.

Everything was nice however I wish the restaurant was open later. There was a floor party on the 3rd floor which was annoying. A large group travelling together decided to open all their bedroom doors and have party. Their children were playing hockey in the hallway and the adults were drinking and socializing. The entire 3rd floor hallway smelled of their alcohol and it was noisy. It would have been nice if the staff put a stop to it however I understand that it's not possible to control the behavior of guests. As annoying as it was, it was nice to see people enjoying themselves. Overall it was a nice hotel and 4 stars is a fair rating.

No shampoo or body wash in the rooms, also no toothpaste so make sure to bring your own stuff. Other than that, the rooms were very clean and the reception what nicely decored and helpful. Definitely recommend for a small stay in the city

I had the renovated rooms which was really nice. However I have received poor service especially at the restaurant . I was even told : Are we done yet? in a rather rude way. I was not able to properly enjoy my breakfast.

I have stayed at the Novotel Ottawa Centre for four nights on a business trip. I have found the staff to be courteous, respectful, professional, and extremely welcoming. The room and housekeeping is of top quality and the room comes complete with all the necessary amenities. Room was quiet and comfortable. Location is fantastic as it is right across from CF Rideau Centre and close to many shops, restaurants, and Parliament Hill. Keep up the great work! Thank you for making my experience a great one :-)

Nothing was ever the hotel’s fault nor did they try to make the stay better. 3 nights and there was construction that woke us up or disrupted meetings in the hotel room. Room wasn’t cleaned thoroughly (rogue bottle cap and chocolate on the floor). When I first complained about the construction (only got 3 hours of sleep the first night), I was told that if it persisted, they would move my room but when it did, they said they were full. Day 2 had no hot water. When I asked for a late check out, I was initially told I would be charged but after clearly stating that my stay was horrible, they waived it.

  • 5/5 shawn w. 6 months ago on Google
The room is clean. I could smell the disinfectant when I entered the room. It is 10 minutes away from the Parliament, but the CF Rideau just crosses the street. Good for 1 preson business trip or tour.

Location was great! Across the road from Rideau Centre, walking distance to the LRT and Byward Market. Upon arrival, they tried to charge me an early check in fee, despite the fact that my room was ready and just sitting there empty - they suggested I wait an hour to avoid the fee. The room is ridiculously noisy due to the extremely thin walls; I had a connecting door to the room next door and we could both hear each other clearly - and when I say ‘clearly’ I mean, I could hear their activity in the bathroom and all conversations. I could also hear everything in the hallway. The mattress had some sort of plastic lining that made a sound every time you moved, and the pillows were all too hard. The breakfast was good although the omelette station was closed, and they still charged me the full price.

Don’t usually write reviews but disappointing in that we were not given the room we reserved! When asked to change to the correct room, many excuses were given such as “you’ve already put your things in there, you’ll have to move it yourself, it’s only for two days and you’ll have to go on the second floor”! Very strange not to even have an apology! The key card also appeared to have blood on it, which could’ve been paint but even if that was it, perhaps clean dirty key-cards? Just a suggestion!

This was a perfect example of what not to do as a manager and he should not be in the service industry. I checked in for one night and the morning of the check out I had intended to extend for the week. As I started to work from the room I could hear a nonstop jackhammer sound and vibration. I ended up calling front desk to inquire and was told it was Parking renovations happening the whole week. I decided to not extend. As the employee was processing my check out he and I were telling the manager (don't have the manager's name but he was a tall white man with shaved head) the situation. The manager could'nt care less. He did not address a word to me, barely looked at me and even walked away as I was telling him that I was thinking of extending and that they should have told me about the renovations when I checked in. He was clearly frustrated and did not want to deal with it. I could see the discomfort of the two reception employees. He was dismissive and seemed to be in training mode to these employees. I ended up going to another hotel with great service. This manager definitely should not be in contact with customers and not work in the service industry. Service in this hotel has lost its appeal and I used to be a regular. I will not be going back to the Novotel Ottawa and will recommend to employees and colleagues. We will choose another Hotel who appreciates our business and can actually engage customers with respect and empathy.

I enjoyed the stay at the hotel and the front desk staff were awesome! What is noticeable is that the hotel is working on saving water, power, and other environmental initiatives. This makes this hotel a "green" hotel - I have same habits at my own home so I felt like I was right at home at the hotel.

I stayed here for an event so I don't know how much the rooms cost. All I do know is the continental breakfast is $25 and if you want pancakes, you only get one unless you ask for more. That would have been fine had they said so before I ordered pancakes. Plural. The syrup was the fake stuff and it had a skin to it; meaning it all probably sat out in the open then they reheated it. The muffins were a little old too. The whole thing feels like an after thought; a cost savings thing, and what are you going to do about it? Everything else about the hotel is really nice so it was surprising. The feeling I got from the server was one of someone who has been yelled at before and was nervous about it happening again. Didn't help me feel comfortable enough to ask for another one pancake. Otherwise everything else was fine

When choosing a hotel, you look at the accommodations, amenities and the reviews about the service, cleanliness and overall experience. I can assure you that this hotel and staff checks all the boxes. You will not regret your choice. They even went and presented us with complimentary beverage and sweets just because we mentioned it was our Anniversary. Just great Service! Thank you

Hotel is at a close proximity to most attractions. Very clean an great service. Staff is super nice. Very rarely we see good service in Canada these days, and the staff were very helpful, friendly, polite, and made our stay wonderful. Room was clean, and breakfast was excellent.

This hotel is quite basic. Never it should be called a 4 star hotel. It’s a 3 star at best on sunny day. - Parking is dreadful. There are hundreds of temporary support poles to hold up the ceiling, which seems to have structural issues. Bits of concrete are falling off. Maneuvering is a hassle, and parking spaces are very narrow, even for a small car. Plus, you have to pay extra for parking. - From room 423, we had a lovely view of the inner part of the building's roof and the building's vents. Not very charming. - Only a small window could be opened. - The carpets are dirty on all floors, even more on the pool floor. - The rooms don't smell particularly good, and the ventilation is poor. With windows that barely open, it doesn't help. You can’t also leave the fan of the bathroom activated when you turn off the light. This doesn’t help either. You can’t let the ventilation heating/clim system fan to on. It need to be set to auto, so it doesn’t help either there. - There are no vending machines anywhere in the hotel (that's what I was told at the reception). There's no milk in the room for coffee. Even when asking the reception for a water bottle, they didn't provide one since they have nothing. They don't offer much, and at night, convenience store options are very limited. - The room design is ordinary. Double bed rooms are narrow. There hasn't been much attention to detail. For example, the faucet is located too far from the sinks. Same thing applies to ventilation has said previously. Nothing too amazing or impressive…

Despite being a 4-star hotel brand, my experience did not live up to it. I was on 2nd floor and woken up by garbage truck emptying the garbage just outside my room almost daily by about 7:30am. The bedding was soft but I wasn't able to get any quality sleep because of it. When I return to my room on second day, my duvet was replaced but I could see some obvious stains to it. Thank God I don't sleep on that side of the bed. Moreover, the TV is off-centered from the bed so only one side of the bed can see it. The sightline is blocked by a pillar on other half of the bed. There are less than 100 channels on the TV. The sports channel do not have high definition. I have to watch it on SD even though the TV screen is huge. Onto the bathroom. The faucet for handwashing was too close to the edge of the sink. The overhead shower was partially blocked and could only run for about 5-8 seconds before the pressure would shut the water off. The soap and shampoo bottles were very difficult to squeeze. The things that are good about this hotel are knowledgeable staff and convenient location with lots of food and shopping options. I will most likely book another hotel next time.

Amazing hotel. Every surface was spotless no concerns at all. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. I will stay here again when I am back in Ottawa in September.

The breakfast buffet is only slightly better than a free breakfast at a days inn. Just hit up a diner instead. Eggs were cold and I expected more than eggs, bacon and bagged potatoes. They of course had other selections however no pancakes or French toast , waffles etc. Oatmeal, a few bread items and cereal only goes so far. Directions in the parking garage are lacking and its possible to end up lost trying to get to the street or hotel. Pillows are way to big and lumpy, it took me forever to fall asleep. Walls are paper thin and in the hall you can hear everything from every room. The only thing that is working for this place is location, new modern rooms, and a nice shower. Also don't forget your room key or you will get stuck in the elevator with no way to get out . I had to wait for somebody to use the one I was in before I could get out at all. Was stuck in the elevator for a good 5 minutes and then on a different floor for another 15 . I couldn't even open the elevator door to get out on the same floor I was on. Trapped!! Apparently the WiFi is only free for the first night ....

Our room was great except for two things: 1) The carpet was fleece material? It felt sticky and gross. 2) Water kept seeping through the bathroom floor tiles. Weird. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay. Bed was comfortable. I loved the many lamps they had in the room. Location was really good! It was not too close to the main noisy area, but it was very good walking distance to everything!

Nice hotel! Rooms are small but clean. Just the parking situation is awful! Great staff, just horrible parking. The parking would make me not come back because both times we stayed it has been super annoying. Beautiful hotel & close to Byward :)

Honestly, I was disappointed. The room was comfortable, but this was nowhere near the Novotel experience I have had another cities. there is no valet parking available and whilst I do understand we are in the middle of a pandemic, their messaging is not clear. They do not currently have room service despite advertising it in the elevators. I also was not told the price of parking upon checking, I was simply deducted the fee at the end of my stay which was... high to say the least. It was not terrible but I do not believe I will be back.

The hotel is clean and in a good location. The staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very small but very functional and comfortable. We spent an extra $20 per night for the larger room and glad we did....I can only imagine how small the others are. The parking is in an underground parking lot with hotel access on one floor only. It would have been ok but we drive a truck and the parking lot has only 6'4" of clearance. With air suspension we can lower the truck but most won't be able to use that parking lot. Our parking pass quit working the 2nd day we were there and management were very obliging in giving us a new pass and only charging us for one days' parking. Thanks for the kind gesture. It should say on their site that parking is an additional $ 28 per day. That's not outrageous but should be disclosed up front. If we return to Ottawa I would stay here again.

Great location very close to parliament and other attractions. Room was spacious, bed very comfortable and temperature easy to control. Would have liked a choice of teas in the room. On the downside the hall outside the bedroom was scruffy with bits of tissue paper and was not vacuumed during our three night stay. The lift was also not too clean. The lobby was quite spartan. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a wide choice, from fresh fruit, cereals (good homemade granola!), a selection of hot food (some cooked to order) and yogurts and pastries etc. The breakfast staff were lovely. Parking wasn't a great experience in the claustrophobic garage. It was quite expensive but convenient with direct access to the lobby.

Good location and room. Need to pay extra for parking as other hotels in downtown. No microwave oven. The room they gave initially had issues with HVAC and TV. Front desk was kind enough to offer a different room and gave some discount during checkout. Will definitely return.

Stayed two nights. Room was good, contemporary but stylish. It was little compact with a king bed and seating area together, but it worked for us. All other amenities were great. We didn’t use the pool or restaurant. Parking located underground. There were some oversized vehicle spaces. Staff were pleasant. Centrally located to Parliament, the Rideau Centre and the Byward Market. Great location which is accessible from the highway. Hotel was clean and secure.

Nice and comfortable rooms. Don’t know why they don’t offer toothpaste and brush, perhaps because they want to reduce their plastic footprint? Not a lot of options for vegetarians in their breakfast menu. And frankly I would have expected complimentary breakfast (they could limit the spread with complimentary breakfast though) along with the stay. Overall pleasant stay and courteous staff

Great location. Overall a good experience, however we were very disappointed with the swimming pool. We specifically booked a hotel with a pool for our children to enjoy as this trip was purely supposed to be a fun weekend away. The pool water & room temperature were both so cold and the kids could only manage to swim for a few minutes; also, the whirlpool was closed and that further added to the disappointment. My children wanted to take a warm shower after hopping out of the pool but the shower water temperature was also super cold and we had to take our shivering children back to the hotel room to warm up there.

Best location for shopping and walking distance to Parliament hill and byward markets. The receptionist are super friendly and fast. Usually I find checking in any hotels tend to be time consuming, but they have 2 clerks and everything seem to run at a normal fast pace. Room were very clean, and cribs already set up for up ahead of time. We will definitely stay here again during our next visit.

Not clean. We asked them to change our sheets after finding a stain. We came home late from an event to find new sheets on the bed, that were even more disgusting. Do not recommend this hotel. Absolutely disgusting, completely grossed out. You would think that they would ensure the new sheets would be inspected?

The staff was super great, super friendly and the location was perfect! The bar was nice and I found it reasonable. Loved the vibe. However, I found breakfast was a bit disorganized and weren't many options for $22/person buffet. Although the chocolate croissant were delicious. We stayed on the 9th floor. The room was kinda small. We found a fly on the window when we arrived and the sheets had some dark stains as well as hair. The gym was clean, has a few treadmills, a rowing machines, dumbbells, a couple of benches, a cable machine, and more! The pool was well maintained as well. Designated parking area for the hotel was pretty limited and full of tight spaces. We mostly parked outside of the designated area since it was usually full. I would come back to this hotel. Mostly for its location and friendly staff. Hopefully the sheets would be hair free next time! :)

The room was clean and accessible. There is underground parking for a fee/night. The breakfast was okay. The lighting and switch placement in the room was a bit odd, and the room was very hot when we arrived (25 degrees celsius). Staff is always available if there is anything you need. I would stay here again.

We had a lovely stay over the May long weekend. The room was perfect for my family and the breakfast, while busy, was wonderful. My only issues would be with the parking and the pool. The parking garage is tight and the spots allocated for the hotel are minimal, we found it easier to park on a lower level. The pool is nice but I was not comfortable using if after about 5pm, at that time a group of adults would show up with alcoholic beverages and a large group of pretty rough kids. I think it may have been a sports team. I didn't feel comfortable speaking with the front desk regarding the pool situation as the pool is shared with the hotel next door and unsupervised so I'm not sure there is much they could have done.

Recently spent one night here, and I will definitely book and stay here again. Front desk staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was very clean with nice toiletries. What made it better than other hotel rooms: lots of good lamps that provide enough lighting for whatever you want to do! Recommended!

The Hotel is clean, quiet and accommodating. Everything you expect is in the room and there were no issues except perhaps it would be helpful to have more people working at the check-in, because there was a quiet a sign up when we came in. Everything ran smoothly.

Excellent location and clean rooms. Paid parking right at the hotel. We stayed a night during the Canada Day celebration and location is right next to the mall and with close proximity to all the restaurants and bars and everything. Would stay again!

The hotel is nice clean however our door had issues closing The fridge didn't work and my God it's like a maze inside . For the price we paid not worth it

The staff are very accommodating. Rooms are small (double room), but clean and has a fridge, coffee - for a fee, and the basics. Parking is not free. The hotel is a walk away from most of the downtown sites. The restaurant offers a morning buffet, but if you want just a coffee and pastry, they will accommodate you. Overall a great stay in Ottawa.

I never leave reviews but decided to this time. Hotel was mediocre at best but has a great location. Parking garage was something about of a horror movie. The ceilings were collapsing with hundreds of emergency support posts holding it up, parked vehicles had debris from falling ceiling cement. I suffered a panic attack trying to navigate the crumbling structure. My vehicle was damaged during my stay. Will never come back nor will I ever recommend this hotel to anyone. Worst hotel experience of my life.
