ByWard Market is a neat area to stroll through to feel the summer vibe. On weekend, the market was more crowded with street singers out front. The market stalls offer an assortment of snacks, food & nic nacs between 9-5 each day. Williams St next to the market is where folks relax on colourful seats to watch pedestrians stroll. There are hopscotches, snack & ladder, and a life-sized chess board. The Ottawa sign nearby is a fun photo op spot. This BIA is popular with tourists. But we noticed the surrounding area became shadier towards the night.

Great spot for sweet treats, flavorful multi-national foods, healthy juice drinks, finding souvenirs and shopping. The beaver tails are a must try- my daughter and I loved the maple beaver tail. We enjoyed Moroccan & Mexican food. The eateries had very limited seating, I did not see any open space with tables for eating. I ate my tacos at the Moroccan restaurant and got a side eye from one of the employees (I asked our waiter if I could eat there and he said “yes”). Overall this market is a cool place to explore.

Beautiful, colorful market. Definitely a must do for all tourists. There are lil shops for all kinds of trinkets and treasures and of course, there are food and chocolate shops as well. Very lively place.

Liked the market. It’s more happening at night specially on Friday and Saturday nights. Lots of food options but didn’t see any halal restaurants. Enjoyed walking. Parking is a trouble. Better to park on the road which will save money.

Fun place to visit while you are in Ottawa! Tons of cute little shops including local fresh food, souvenirs, good restaurants, and more. It is located right beside CF Readeau which make it convenient for you to shop around and find a place to eat. Tons of restaurants to pick from.

The Byward Market Heritage District is a rich, vernacular landscape. While it does not have a homogenous building stock characteristic of a single period, it bears witness in its architecture to the vital and continuous evolution of economic, social and cultural activity within the city core. From the mid-nineteenth century come many of the earliest surviving residential, commercial and mixed-use properties in the city. Within the district are a number of examples from this period which have survived relatively intact.

There are multiple stores and stalls selling anything from fresh produce, cheese, preserved meats and souvenirs. It’s well known occupant is the Moulin Bakery which named a cookie after President Obama’s prior visit. Many cultures’ cuisines are represented among the many vendors and eateries.

so many different things to buy and see at the market. We ate at the Moroccan restaurant and the food was phenomenal and the family so nice. We had the royal Platter which included chicken, lamb shank, cous cous, veggies, rice and potatoes. Was so great would highly recommend

It is a very trendy and busy neighbourhood of Ottawa. Vendors galore. Be sure to wear your walking shoes as that is what you will be doing as you visit the various merchants. Many restaurants and do not forget to bring your mask to prevent Covid spread. It is always busy there due to the fact that it is well-known and trendy.

Tourists love wandering around the ByWard Market Area. From spring to autumn, the Farmers' Market is held, with spaces for sitting on Muskoka chairs and areas where children can play hopscotch. The ByWard Market Area is filled with stylish brick-built shops, many of which have patio seating likely set up during the pandemic. This makes the streets feel narrow but might give tourists a lively feeling. The brick buildings with the iconic BeaverTails pastry shop is quite charming. When visiting Ottawa, exploring this area offers not only a sense of history and social study but also a fun city stroll.

Exploring Ottawa's ByWard Market area was a delight. The vibrant atmosphere, diverse shops, and eclectic dining options make it a must-visit. Whether you're strolling through the market stalls, enjoying local cuisine, or soaking in the lively ambiance, the ByWard Market area offers a memorable and charming experience.

It was Winterlude and yet there was nothing going on. Beyond George Street there is nothing to do and the streets are quite empty. That and the occasional druggie make for a blah experience. Maybe it is better in the evening to go for dinner.

You can easily spend 4-5 hours here walking around the vendors and stores. Not to mention all the places you can grab a bite to eat or a cold drink. Once the market closes the homeless do take over the chairs/streets so you're better off moving along as it doesn't feel safe.

Excellent place for so much variety in vendors and food. My son got a very high quality leather belt from a vendor. She sized him and created the belt to his liking....on the spot. Look the the bakery callwd The French Baker. So worth the walk. Amazing pastries and treats. Lunch menu also

Most of the restaurants and buildings have menus posted outside on their door or a pole by the entrance. The owners of shops, the variety of items, and the many things to explore around the market are fun. We took pictures with some of the wall art and found a candy store that makes the cookies from "Squid Games" the children loved that one! We listened and danced to music that was playing on the street and we stopped at the Beavertail truck for a nice treat! (Debit and Credit only, no cash for that) It wasn't very busy when we went so we were able to enjoy most of the features there. Someone does art on maple leaves.. 🍁. Seriously. It's cool 😅. Recommend going for a nice stroll at least, to see what's there !

The Byward's always a fun place to explore and do a nice day out shopping, but it absolutely EXPLODES in the summer. The merchant stalls have the coolest clothing, jewelry & art. Also, all the vegetable and fruit stales that pop up have such fresh and delicious foods. Plus, you can feel good about supporting local farmers & creators. Definitely recommend visiting if you haven't already.

A great public market in Ottawa. It has everything you want. Eat, drink, shop at the same place. Wonderful freshly baked goods at the bakery and pastries shops. Stalls serving differents varieties of cuisine. There's so many good restaurants, coffee shops and pubs around. Also, the Rideau Centre is only a couple minutes away. A fun place place to hang out or to find unique souvenirs.

This is a lively market where you can buy almost anything: handcrafted items, fair trade clothing, a store of items made by indigenous people and run by the youth-led Assembly of Seven Generations, incredible restaurants, great music, fresh vegetables, ethnic foods, and right now a wonderful exhibit of works by local artists on the theme "Home. " I found many gifts for my grandchildren - and for myself! It's a lot of fun!

This is essentially the street fair of Ottawa! Located downtown and only blocks from all of the government buildings. This market is filled with food, trinkets, material goods, and souvenirs. Outdoor and indoor shops, while it is late in the year, most outdoor shops are closed up. Very fun experience. Can't wait to do ot again this next summer!! Plus home to the original Beaver Tail! Don't pass that one up!

I think we started off on a bad note here. We walked in from the East, and that area is awful with the homeless and drug use, graffiti, run down, closed, and boarded up buildings. It felt very unsafe, even during the day. Then, you turn the corner and bam! ByWard Market. There are still some unsavory people that come into this tourist trap, but not too bad. The city really needs to clean up around here. I honestly wasn't really impressed on a whole here. Many of the stores were very similar and nothing to write home about. We bought one T-shirt and one magnet. It made for a cheap day, though.

Kind of disappointing looking. I had heard some interesting suggestions about this place from people who travelled to Ottawa. But due to the pandemic, byward market looks exceptionally sad...only a handful of stores were open and the light inside was flickering... I hope this place survive this pandemic and go back to being one of the most charming artisan markets in Ottawa :(

Used to hang out in the Byward Market when I lived in Ottawa. Love the area of town. Close to the Parliament Buildings, shopping,. Also, my favorite bar is in the market. The Chateau Lafayette had been a great place in the '80's and early '90's when I hung out down there. The oldest bar. Predates the constitution of Canada. It was under diferent names, but is still in the same location. It felt like I was at home when there with some great friends

  • 3/5 Alexander Y. 3 years ago on Google
The Byward market is "okay". There really isn't much there except some gift shops, some small restaurant stalls. the Good: Bathrooms are awesome and on the second floor so you past by a great and pretty sculpture with a cloud and lots of of like Farmers. Too bad there is no actual indoor meat shop or something. The also good cafes. This is awesome, the Obama cookie is there, it's good and buttery and overpriced but hey do the tourist thing. the bad: Just okay inside, really small. Take ten minutes and walk through. lol. The surrounding area is nice so you can just drop by and walk to see the surrounding areas.

I really enjoy the Byward Market. It’s in the heart of beautiful downtown Ottawa and It has lots to offer in terms of restaurants, shopping etc. You are close to all the classic sites ie the canal the parliament and the Rideau Mall shopping centre is across the street 👍☺️

One of the liveliest days of the last few months since the pandemic. Sunny and 21°C was rare to see during November. Happy to see all the restaurants and pubs reopen and people enjoy a meal or a drink on the patios. All that to finish off with a beautiful sunset and promise of another beautiful and sunny day tomorrow! 🌞

There's absolutely nothing to do on the market... Even with covid, lots of stores are just gone!!! Nothing to see, just a bunch of people walking around following each other and going in circles . Quite few homeless folks asking for change.. yep, I'm from Ottawa born n raised , my pops use to sell live pigs back in the day...late 60's. And it was something to see and experience... too bad it's all gone and our Mayor and mayors before him did nothing to keep it going... a piece of Ottawa's history as vanished. Sad really.
