Very nice exhibits of planes and the space section is interesting!! Some of the interactive displays are still closed due to covid. They offer biplane ride for 40$ and everyday 4 to 5pm, the admission is free. You have to pre book the time slot even if it is free admission. The parking fee is 3$ for an hour and 8$ for full day. I think the parking revenue is there to support kids programming in the museum. Nice place to visit if you really love planes!!!

Amazing aviation museum, with a brilliant collection of civilian and military aircraft used in Canada. I have been to a few aviation museums in my time and this is a standout. I think the collection of civilian aircraft really makes it. There is a small space collection which is, perhaps disappointingly, not as impressive. There are games and activities for the kids. I was disappointed the flight simulators were not available for use on our visit and it wasn’t clear if the joy flights were available either. Note the planetarium (Greg is fantastic, and impressive as he switches from English to French and vice versa without taking breath) is on a first come first serve basis with limited space inside.

Awesome place! Kept the history of flights in order to show the evolution. Most amazing part was the space section. Not very kid worthy though. But still if your kid likes plane or space this is a place you can go and enjoy.

Fabulous museum. You can see a Snowbird at the front entry. It was interesting to see planes that we never knew they even existed. You can go outside and watch planes taking off and landing. Also you can book a bi-plane ride and they can choose between two routes. There is also a space part that it is very good too! Staff were welcoming and helpful.

Amazing place! It made our day. Superb. Kids will love it! The name is more enough to explain about the place. Huge collections of plane and helicopter from beginning to up to now. Very neat and clean5/5 Rest room 5/5 Atmosphere 5/5. Informative 5/5. Display board available in front of plane. Lots of puzzles and games. They also offer a plane and helicopter ride (you have to pay extra for it)

The museum had tons of different planes used in both the world wars, as well as bomber planes and helicopters! The airplane ride is the best part, we were in a Cessna, and we had a 10 minute ride above Ottawa, we got to see the parliament building and nearly the entire city! 100% would recommend, even for kids!

This was an amazing trip for my young children and I. I’ve always been fascinated with aviation and even though I’ve watched so many documentaries over the years, seeing the planes in real life is priceless. Like I didn’t know a fighter jet was that huge! The exhibits are rich with history, very well documented with tons of interesting facts via with plaques and signs. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, they will even allow you to get into a few of the planes which was fun for the kiddos. To top it off, there is a whole section dedicated to Canada’s contribution to Space exploration (which was new to me), Go Chris Hadfield! I highly recommend going if you have kids, regardless of their interests. Oh, and you can do airplane and helicopter tours… but you have to book ahead of time. So we plan to visit again just for this! Had a great time, highly recommend. . Also pro tip for locals. If you’re from Ottawa or Eastern Ontario, you may request the museum pass from your local library for free entry for up to 2 adults + 2 kids! 🙂

What a wonderful museum to visit and spend time at! It’s not a whole day visit, but definitely a great place to spend half the day with your children and family. A great assortment of aircraft from WW2 and even a space section on the second floor.

Beautiful museum, very well curated and taken care of. We've visited it on canada day when the admission is free. Lots and lots of aircrafts exhibited on their floor. A cool flight simulator is also available on site. We paid $5 for parking tickets just outside the main entrance. It's a great spot for a family activity. Very much recommended.

A fantastic venue with amazing aircraft and other things to do with aviation. The different sections of the air museum were superb including world war 2 aircraft and modern combat aircraft. My favourite was the section of the Avro Lancaster bomber where you could the radio operator's seat and the pilot's seats.bThe space exhibition was outstanding and I particularly loved all the mission badges belonging to all the astronauts

This is one of my favourite museums, and I love the space you get to experience the artifacts in. It's spacious and the aircraft are beautiful to see. It's great for anyone with an interest in flight, but though they do their best, it's not the most hands-on sort of place for real little kiddos.

A must visit museum if you are in the NCR. The exhibits are well laid out with a lot of handy information. Home to the Beaver, Avro Arrow,Lancaster bomber and a number of my favorites (sopwith camel,Harrier, submarine spitfire). The museum is well equipped with washrooms, ample parking, water fountains and information for those who seek. The gift shop is well equipped. Wish the parking was free with the museum ticket as space is not a constraint here.

Overall a great museum, lots of different aircraft from one of the first aircraft ever made to modern day jet fighters. Very large variety of aircraft and even some helicopters if your interested in aviation history this is a great place to visit! Especially for WW2 era planes they have huge four engined bombers to one of the first jet fighters to the spitfires and 109s we all know and love. Highly recommend!

First time back since the pandemic. It felt really good. Our 4 year old was so excited to see all the planes. We were happy to be able to do it safely. Masking was mandatory and upheld. Staff were present and helpful. Distancing and capacity felt comfortable. So many awe-inspiring exhibits. We really enjoyed it.

Good location, parking and accessibility. Buy your tickets online and pay your parking at the reception desk. Some parts are closed due to restrictions. Still totally worth it, especially if you get the ride afterwards. Attendants and pilots are polite and professional. A must if you visit the capital.

I spent a whole day at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum and Phew, why had I not done this previously. I was blown away!!!! If you are in Ottawa you have to do this visit. If you do not your trip is not complete To learn my most loved plane, the Lancaster was actually a Canadian plane was a source of pride. I saw the Spitfire that plane that shaped the destiny of the world and the Messerschmitt 109 ( if you know, you know) and my day was complete..

If you are interested in aviation or the air force this is a great place to visit. The displays are informative and there is a tie-in with the development of nationhood. Recommend spending a few hours...be sure to wear comfortable shoes. You can also take a biplane tour of the Ottawa area from the skies! My brother and I did that last year...well worth the money!

This museum is the perfect destination for anyone who has a fascination with aviation, aerospace and air technology. What sets this museum apart is its collection of real exponents. Visitors have the opportunity to get up close and personal with real planes and even sit inside some of them, which is an experience not to be missed. The museum is well-organized and provides a comprehensive learning experience with displays that cover the evolution of aircraft from its early prototypes to the latest space robots. The amount of information that is available is impressive, and you will leave the museum feeling much more knowledgeable about this fascinating subject. The free tour guide on-site is an excellent addition, and visitors can benefit from the museum staff's expertise and in-depth knowledge. This ensures a memorable visit, and it is a fantastic way to learn history in a fun and interactive way. Overall, the museum is an incredible experience and is suitable for people of all ages. You will never forget this memorable experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in aviation and space exploration.

Really nice museum with a variety of interactive exhibits, especially for kids. Went on a Monday afternoon and it was not busy at all so that was nice. You do have to pay to park $3.25 an hour or $8 all day when we went. It's on an active airfield so you can watch some small planes and the sightseeing helicopter take off and land. Good place for aviation fans and kids.

Love going to the Aviation museum. This was our first visit with our 3yr old. Very kid friendly - has a small cafe with food and tables, bathroom with changing table, lots of space for Strollers and there were Strollers to lend. Exhibits very well done - description signs are updated and very nice; includes aviation art of various artists including Canadians. Easy to read info. A few exhibits you can sit in. Some interactive information walls that are too advanced for little one - better for older kids and adults. They have a huge section with wooden plan tricycles - this was fantastic. Also a back observation area where you can see the runway and planes taking off and landing. Parking on site, not free. Must do!

A nice museum with an easy to navigate layout. Airplanes from 1909 to present, along with jets and helicopters. Nice quick summaries for eac plane. Includes Canadian, German, and other nationalities. Also a small section on space travel. Can easily use the hop on and hop off tour bus to visit along with other sites.

This is by far my favourite museum in Ottawa. I highly recommend taking the guided tour of the reserve hanger. It's absolutely worth the money. They only offer this tour at 11:30am and 2:30pm, so I would suggest booking in advance to guarantee yourself a spot.

Parking was a pain cause the meters were covered up so we all had to do it on the app. What if I had no phone? Or data? Museum was so neat! Love the history and loved the collection of plane from the first one to the fighter jets of today. It's so incredible how much aviation has come. The space area was very well put together. I learned a lot! The picnic area was so nice. Although not enough garbages outside. And more hand sanitizers around near where it's high touch.

Great for what it was. Reasonably priced. Not the largest aviation museum, but had a lot of great insight into the contributions Canada has made to aviation. They had a great kids program about mail delivery that was bilingual. They offer several options for aerial tours of the capital to include biplane rides starting at $95/person for 15-20 min.

Very cool museum. So many planes!!! You have to buy your tickets ahead of time and choose a time which means you have lots of room to walk around no big groups all together which is great. My 9 year old really loved it and my 2 year old had fun just walking around and jumping on the directional arrows. My husband and I really enjoyed all the interesting facts we learned a lot ;) The only thing is that I wished they had more things about space. My son was a little disappointed that there was only a tiny section about space but seeing a real suit that had been up in space was totally awesome ;)

If you are a “aviation” lover, this is where you need to go. Crazy how they have real planes from the 1900’s to 2000’s. I was there during COVID so a few activities were closed. They seems very cool. A lot of reading, the visit took me an hour and a half to do it.

  • 5/5 Z. C. 3 years ago on Google
This is a truly impressive complex filled with a whole range of models spanning pretty much the entire history of flight. From the early biplanes, to modern fighter jets and a whole range in between. Take pictures with some of the most iconic looking planes ever, and learn about the technology that powers it. This would be a wonderful place to go to inspire kids to be engineers. If you're at all interested in planes (and maybe even if you're not) it's very worth visiting. The last hour of the day is free, and that's just about enough time to do a walk around and take a quick glance at everything. They also have plane rides and an observation area for the attached airport during the warm seasons.

  • 4/5 Nick F. 3 years ago on Google
Great museum, but best if your kids can read. This museum is one of three Ingenium museums in Ottawa (the other two being Agriculture and Science and Tech), and it is a fantastic way to get up close to various planes since the dawn of aviation. I have a couple of young kids, and quite a few of the activities require explanation, so they need an adult close at all times to really enjoy it, which is different from the Science and Tech museum where there are more hands-on, exploratory activities.

The Aviation and Space Museum is a family favorite. My children love looking at all the different airplanes and learning about aerospace history. There are different types of airplanes from smaller single engine planes to larger military planes. There are various events and exhibitions that take place at the museum- my children enjoy the Canada in Space exhibition and love viewing the original Canadarm that is on display in the museum.

Some interesting and historically important aircraft in the museum. This is a fun museum for children. There are some interactive parts on some of the exhibits which the kids like to fiddle with. There are numerous photo opp areas for the kids, too.

It's nice and clean. Great detail. Enjoyable experience. The covid 19 methods are exaggerated though. Nowhere to eat even if you bring a sandwhich. If you leave you can't come back in. So make sure if you are going with young kids that you don't plan to take a snack or meal break. We had to cut our visit short because my 5 year old needed to eat. I thought guidelines would be like the nature museum where you can sit and eat in peace and then get back to exploring.

Visited the museum during March Break, my kids LOVED it. Unfortunately, a lot of the interactive activities were still closed due to Covid, but there were a few activities to keep them entertained, including, ride-on-top airplanes, sitting in a cockpit, and an interactive video where you learn to fly a plane using your body. The section on space was particularly enjoyable. The museum was clean and hand sanitizers were located throughout. Washrooms were easily accessible. There is even an opportunity to take a flight on a Cessna at an additional cost - capacity is three people per flight and you can tour Ottawa and Parliament Hill - I would consider this for a future visit. There was no food available on-site.

Really well done museum dedicated to Canadian aviation with some rare and interesting aircraft. We saw planes from WWI that I never knew existed like a huge black German biplane bomber. The full size Lancaster bomber from WWII was a highlight and it’s always cool to be up close and personal with modern fighter planes like the CF-18. Even cooler for some is the chance to go up in a biplane or helicopter and cruise around the skies above the museum for a small fee. Definitely recommend this museum for all ages!

Located on a former military air base just five kilometers from the Prime Minister’s residence at 24 Sussex Drive in Ottawa, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum focuses on aviation in Canada within an international context – from its beginnings in 1909 to today. As Canada’s contribution to aviation expanded to include aerospace technology, the museum’s collection and mandate grew to include space flight. The collection itself consists of more than 130 aircraft and artifacts (propellers, engines) from both civil and military service. It gives particular, but not exclusive, reference to Canadian achievements. The most extensive aviation collection in Canada, it is also considered one of the finest aviation museums in the world.

The history of aviation right there for your eyes to see. A little smaller than I was expecting but that doesn't take away from the enormous amount on display. All the exhibit items have written history/information about them. I grew up as an Air Force brat and this is the first time I have seen such a display. There is a coat rack area, not seen in too many other museums. The washrooms are large and clean. The cafeteria is a bit small and offers a striped down list of items but will probably get better as this post pandemic operating continues. A little out of the way but you can use the Hop-On Hop-Off bus system and get an extended tour of the area.

Awesome aviation museum, which is free one hour prior to closing, so it makes it even better. There are lots of historic and modern planes on display and lots of things to interact with. For extra charge, you can take a plane ride around Ottawa, which provides amazing views from above. I will definitely recommend checking it out

A must visit for any Airplane fan. Spare 2 to 3 hours for your visit. Check their website for a free hour entry at end of certain days. Apart from the displays, you can also buy and experience real airplane & helicopter flights! From the oldest flying balloon to fighter jets & drones, there are many different planes on display. Many air plane engines, landing gear & other mechanicals are also on display. Space section is also very knowledgeable. You can see what astronauts eat & feel how heavy your hand feels in space. Location is also nice and reachable without hitting traffic. Parking is paid but cheap & plenty. And lastly the souvenoir shop will excite the kids like no other as it has plenty of planes to choose from. Overall, very nice experience.

Incredible!! This place is certainly with visiting … I guess I am going back again . I could spend 3 hours with my curious toddlers . What makes this interesting ks that they have planes which are either first of their kind or last … This could be a 1 day outing. Hands down !!

Another very fascinating museum in Ottawa has a large collection of aircrafts from all different decades and the gift shop had a lot of cool things to buy but quite expensive though

From historic planes to modern marvels, the collection astounds, but it's the spacecraft exhibits that truly transported me to another realm. Standing in the presence of the spaceships, one can't help but marvel at human ingenuity and the dreams of cosmic exploration. The detailed displays and interactive components provide a rich understanding, making the experience both educational and exhilarating. For anyone with stars in their eyes, this museum is Ottawa's gateway to the universe. A stellar experience!

Great little museum but it's more a aviation than space. Appreciate the 4pm free admission at the end of the day. And of course a tribute to the Avro Arrow. The Iroquois engine and the front piece of the RL. Oh how Canada's history would have changed had they built rather than scrapped the plane. What a shame...

Absolutely amazing time! Unfortunately I read some other reviews that stated it would take 2-3 hours to do the entire museum and we didn't even finish the first floor. So heads up if you actually read everything and want to discuss and learn, I'd plan this museum for a day. We can't wait to go back!

Very good environment, amazing airplanes, the two kids come every month, not many people, plenty of space,no need to worry about catching the flu. I often sit in the cafe in the museum to do assignments.dad takes the kids to watch the airplanes.it’s good deal to buy an annual pass.

Amazing visit with my 3 year old who adores planes , his first time seeing them up close , very well managed place past few months we have been to every other museum and just get bombed by kids on field trips with teachers who don't care and let the kids run wild and trample over the little ones trying to enjoy their day , this place total opposite , the schools are well managed and maintained to there areas and when touring around are very well directed , thank you for this , gift shop my son always get a toy from any outings like this and it always scares me as they are expensive and of course my boy picks out the biggest airplane toy I could see and I panic until I flipped it over and was extremely reasonable only 25$ for it any other place would have been 50-75$ , highly recommend this place , visit them , donate to them , it's well deserved , also ps to the volunteer who I asked about signatures on the fighter jet very smart man and you can tell he loved talking about the planes
