The Jail House Haunted Walk was a lot of fun. We had previously done the Ottawa walk, but the jail was much more interesting. The tour was a great walk with stops for prep stories that connected with later stories in the jail itself. Our tour guide Oliver was brilliant. He was very friendly and entertaining, he did a great job keeping the stories clear and new when to lay on the suspense. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking for something to do for an hour or so in the evening.

Guide was good … but not sure worth the money…. If you have nothing to do in even you can consider it….. they tell stories about jail and what people experienced and spirits and all …. But honestly speaking don’t expect any spookiness here …. It’s a simple jail tour where you will get to hear how inmates were kept and that’s it. If you haven’t seen a jail, go for it … you will see jail

We enjoyed this walk and the views of Ottawa at twilight in July. Unfortunately I did feel as though our guide was reciting lines (and poorly, at that, lacking detail and passion to make the stories engaging), which made our experience a little boring especially for our teens. Still, I think a lot of these experiences are made (or broken) by the guide and I think ours maybe just needs more experience in storytelling. Still would recommend!

We loved the haunted walk. We did similar haunted walks in Edinburgh, Scotland and London, UK. This was very informative and fun. Our guide, Juliette, was really knowledgable and enthusiastic, made it more fun for all of us. I will also recommend getting the haunted walk book, it has more stories.

2021: I've been absolutely enjoying the Haunted Walks online virtual campfires. Jacqui was a great speaker on the London bridge that is now in Arizona. Really cool stories. I'm really excited for Mark Leslie on March 20th and will try to update my review afterwards. Thank you Jim for putting on quality virtual content while we're all stuck at home!! 2019: We did the premium original Ottawa ghost tour with Robyn as our tour guide. She was a great speaker and the tour was great. The stories were interesting and took us areas of the town we hadn't seen before. The Bytown Museum was really neat too. It was dark and creepy! I loved it!

My friend and I LOVED the jail tour! We were so intrigued with the history of it all, and all the haunted experiences people have had in there. I’m not a very intuitive person, but no matter who you are - you will feel off in that place. Liz was our tour guide and she was amazing! Liz if you’re reading this - thank you so much again! 🥰

We did the haunted Carleton jail tour with Monica. She was excellent, made sure that everyone could hear and got a chance to see things. Very personable and offered to answer any questions we might have about Ottawa.. The building was CREEPY, and looked especially spooky lit up at night. Next time would do the regular haunted ghost walk to maybe get more varied stories... Nothing super scary happened and it was a lot of anecdotes of what happened on other tours. A little history, a little fun, a little spooky... Enjoyed by all

It was an enjoyable ghost storey telling journey. Great way to spend some of a Saturday night and hear some history and spine hilling details of times past. I really enjoyed the Toronto walk and am happy they offer an online opportunity.

I have enjoyed a few of the live haunted walks and saw that the company was also offering a zoom ‘campfire’ version involving stories around London Bridge. We enjoyed an interactive evening of stories, Q&A and lessons about the gory past. Settled in with hot chocolates at home and had a fun and educational time.

Took part in Avirtual campfire storytelling session on Zoom with an Australian London-based ghost walk guide. Great fun, and the stories were hair-raising in parts! Did all of Haunted Walk’s Hallowe’en campfire sessions, and enjoyed them all.

My husband and I love these types of tours and we try to do them in person whenever possible. We saw the ad for the "Campfire-London Bridge" and I had to check it out. It was fantastic. My skeptic husband also enjoyed it. The stories were interesting and tied in with some history and the Q&A provided a little extra as well. All in all it was worth it and I highly recommend. We'll be joining in on the next few as well. THANKS and keep up the great work.

We had a wonderful experience at the Haunted Jail Tour. Liz was our tour guide. She was full of knowledge and made this experience interesting with cool spooky stories. Liz kept our tour professional and was incredibly conscientious regarding Covid restrictions and personal space. Considering our tour took place during a pandemic we felt safe, guided and well equipped to handle any kind of spookables that we may have come in contact with. Thank you so much, we had such a lovely time! CM

I have participated in all of the Haunted Campfires - ghost stories presented online via Zoom - and they have all been excellent! The presenters are engaging, the stories are interesting and sometimes chilling. Until Covid restrictions are fully lifted, this is the next best way to experience a ghost tour. I also enjoy their "Haunted Talks" Podcasts which highlight ghostly, creepy and unexplained historic events. Super interesting and very well presented by Jim Dean, the Creative Director for Haunted Walks. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to the next Haunted Campfire.

Thanks to Lantern tours and Haunted Walks Tours, we got to spend a Saturday doing something a little bit different during this crazy time by enjoying a little haunted history by a professional guide. Nothing beats doing this in person , but this was a fun way to break the dullness of pandemic weekend evenings until we can do it in person again. Grateful for the stories the provide online weekly at a low cost with a recorded copy sent to my email after. Love this !

Our adventure started at 46 1/2. Our tour guide, Chris introduced himself and set the stage for the small walk and talk. Very intriguing and based on historical accuracy. Once at our destination, a quick climbing of stairs and a personal visit to the hub of abnormal behaviour cemented the evening. Very enjoyable. Well done Chris!

Nothing better than enjoying Ottawas sunset / night life with a walk around the city, hearing some amazing stories of the paranormal. Our tour guide Nick was exceptionally pleasant and a good story teller. Nick provided a lot of insights into the historic value of the city, along with the legend of the area with relatable examples of ghostly encounters of past tours. Did we have an experience? well several people seeing the same things and feeling the same presence in a certain area more than peaked my curiosity. 🤔👻 Well done Ottawa Haunted walk!

We have taken several of the tours offered. We are always excited to attend at a ghost walk when we visit Ottawa. The guides are incredible storytellers who make the experience very enjoyable. Highly recommend attending one of the tours. You will learn history and be entertained at the same time. Perfect for the entire family.

A MUST! We had the pleasure of doing the Jail tour during its final season, guided by Caroline. We had such a great time. It was so cold out, but Caroline kept us warm with her spirited, suspense- building delivery and charm. And the jail tour itself was both chilling and fascinating- and I will confidently say that I felt some strong vibes standing in one of the cells 👻. We will definitely be back for another tour in the future!

Chloe was a wonderful tour guide who brought the story to life on a dreary rainy evening. It was so interesting, lots of spooky fun and very special to be able to join the tour and see the jail before tours end Dec. 31, 2023.

On Saturday Sept 2, 3 gfs and I attended Tales from the Mausoleum, held at Beechwood Cemetery. The grounds were gorgeous and it was a real treat to spend time exploring the sections before the tour, especially the Canadian Military Cemetery (section 103). Our guide was Caroline and she was extraordinary. She was funny, dramatic, knowledgeable and make the entire experience SO fun. It was interesting to hear about some of the stories of the founding families of Ottawa buried in the cemetery. Highly recommend!

The Ottawa Haunted Jail Tour was worth every penny. Fascinating, well researched stories told by a personable, well-trained, knowledgeable guide. Heather was passionate about her topic and very pleasing to listen to. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Loved the history mixed in with the stories. Also loved the recognition that we aren't celebrating every decision this historical person made. I liked that, the ability to share the stories but responsibly acknowledge history. Being outside in Gatineau park at night was awesome :)

Took some clients on the walk. Our guide Erin was very aware of our slower pace and accommodated us. For the last story we were unable to keep up but the guide said she would wait for us. She told the others the final story then came to us and told her final story for us. She walked back to the beginning with us and directed us to our parking spot. Very friendly and knowledgeable. My client and I loved the walk and were especially impressed with the company and the staff. Highly recommend 👌

Great experience! Nice leisurely walk on a nice fall evening. Along the way, we got to learn a little bit of Ottawa's history, and listened to a number of interesting ghost stories. Our guide Sarah Anne was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The group size was very small - 8 people plus our guide, so we all can hear her every word, and have chance to ask questions if we want.

I’ve been working in Ottawa for several weeks now and recently my wife came out for a visit. We were extremely excited to give the haunted walk a try and we were not disappointed. As I have already done one in the past in the city some things have changed as expected due to the ongoing pandemic however that didn’t make the tour any less enjoyable. Sarah Ann did a wonderful job throughout the tour with amazing story telling and humour along the way. Her in depth knowledge of each site was spooky, captivating and informative. Next time I’m back in Ottawa I will absolutely be doing another haunted walk and can’t wait to try one in my home city soon!

I've been on most of the tours that the Haunted Walk of Ottawa offers, and the Jail tour about four times. I brought my daughter before the tour is no longer offered. Always a great time, and our tour guide, Leah, was amazing. Looking forward to hearing about what new tours and buildings you may be adding to the list. Always a great night.

Loved the jail tour we took the other night! I grew up in Ottawa and came back to visit family. So glad we decided to do this tour as I learned a bunch that I had no idea about. We were a group of 4 and all of us really enjoyed the evening. Our tour guide, Robin, was a great storyteller. She was also extremely tolerant of my very talkative teenage son who talked her ear off and was basically her shadow for a good chunk of the tour.

This tour was so much fun! Our guide Olivia was friendly, enthusiastic, and communicative. It was obvious she enjoyed conducting this “haunting” tour! We had our grandchildren with us, 12 & 14, and they loved it! Having access to the inside of the jail was priceless.

Absolutely loved it. I’ve never done something like this before. The most loved part about the tour was that we saw places that maybe we wouldn’t have if we were exploring on our own. Special kudos to our tour guide/story teller clowee. If in ottawa i would definitely recommend giving your 1 hr for this spooky activity 😁

Did the Haunted Walk for Upper Canada Village this past weekend and it was incredible. Our storyteller was very well spoken and knew a lot about the area. It was interesting to learn about the darker history while also being able to explore some of the buildings at night. Extremely well done and perfectly paced. Thanks again for the haunted walk during an almost full moon with meteor showers! Amazing! Highly recommend.

Me & my friends had an amazing experience at our first Ottawa haunted walk. Our group was small which made it super intimate & the weather was absolutely perfect. The facilitator was very knowledgable & quirky which made the whole experience super fun!

I was trying to find ideas for a quick weekend getaway for my husband and I, when the haunted walk popped up on my phone. I knew this would be perfect, as he has had some paranormal experiences in the past. So I decided to book it as a surprise. We were both pleasantly surprised with our tour, right from the beginning. The young lady who greeted us at the entrance was extremely pleasant and welcoming. Then we met our tour guide, Celeste, and she was phenomenal. We had so much fun and Celeste was amazing at her job. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. My husband shared a few stories with Celeste and showed her a photo of a woman that he captured.

Haunted walks are perfect for the Halloween season. We went on the walk at Beechwood Cemetery. I wouldn't say that it was super scary, but I enjoyed checking out a beautiful new part of the city, and learning more about Canada's creepy history.

Excellent tour. Is it haunted? You be the judge. Be prepared to do stairs - some were not and had to bail. Maybe that was for the best. We'll never know... ;) Definitely worth doing when in Ottawa.

I went on the jail your recently and I absolutely loved it. It was amazing, scary and super fun listening to all the story’s of the prison. But my tour guide specifically, her name is Olivia and I just gotta say she was excellent. We bonded quickly and I love her sense of humour, she was really sweet and I loved her a lot. I definitely recommend her as a tour guide, she’s the absolute best and she definitely make the story’s a bit less scary when she’s telling them. As I said, I loved her a lot and I hope I get to see her again in the future)

We went on the Haunted Ghost Walk of Ottawa yesterday night and Paul our guide was absolutely amazing! Such a great storyteller and overall great inclusive character. We really enjoyed his stories! The walk was not too long, it's a great activity for friends and families alike (although I would say for older children as we are standing in places in a bit of time). We had such a wonderful time exploring the paranormal side of the city with Paul! Truly recommend! Thank you Paul!

My kids talked me in to doing the Haunted Jail walk with them. Not my thing at all, but pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It was a historical learning experience and I really liked seeing the inside of an old building that I otherwise would never have seen. Our guide was informative and spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. She took time to answer questions. Thank you for an unexpectedly good time!

  • 5/5 Navjyot J. 8 months ago on Google
It was good to know about the spooky history of the city and to mention which are actual experiences that have happened with people. Paul, our guide was the best to narrate all the stories to us in a manner that we could imagine every act that happened. Along with an awesome narrator he is also a very sweet and kind person. I would surely recommend everyone to get Paul as their guide on Haunted walk of Ottawa.

I joined the jail walk with some friends that wanted to go, I of course expected a good time and to learn some interesting history, what I did not expect was Robin's storytelling skills. It was very clear that our enjoyment was her top priority, and I was captivated by her stories, in one particular moment inside the jail her storytelling sent shivers up my spine and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I highly recommend these walks for the information and sightseeing alone, the incredible storytelling is just a fantastic bonus to the already great value.

We had a great tour with Seth on the Original Haunted Walk tour. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area and we enjoyed the stories shared!

  • 3/5 Dana M. 3 years ago on Google
My husband and I attended the Haunted Ottawa "bubble" walking tour on the weekend. Our Tour Animator, Seth, was enthusiastic and the ghost stories related to various old Ottawa buildings were interesting. It's a fun thing to do for tourists or people who are familiar with Ottawa for a different perspective. I was surprised that Ottawa's most famous ghost story wasn't even mentioned on our tour- that around the murder of D'Arcy McGee, especially when the tour office is located right on Sparks Street and the Darcy McGee pub is right next door! I would highly suggest that Tour Guides "cross-promote" your Ottawa Jail tour by mentioning the Patrick Whalen trial story. Also, the tour was a bit short and you don't get very close at all to the buildings...just seemed odd. The $30 ticket price is a bit high for what it is...I'd say $23-$25 would be more reasonable, esp when there are free 1.5 hour walking tours of Ottawa. The only other note I have is that our Guide, Seth, at one point asked me "move back" from him. I was *wearing a mask* and was standing a good 4-5 feet down the stairs from him. He had a soft voice that does not project well and was muffled by his mask and the traffic on Elgin Street. The way he said it was inappropriately defensive and frankly, rude. I felt singled out and publicly embarrassed and felt like leaving the tour, but it was just beginning. Sorry, but his tone was inappropriate. Should ask if EVERYONE COULD HEAR HIM OK, or get a small portable Mic if you have a quiet voice. Downtown Ottawa is a loud place.

After living in Ottawa for over 25 years I finally got to see the interior and learn about the former jailhouse right in the middle of downtown Ottawa! The tour exceeded my expectations from a historical perspective. The way the tour was conducted was very clever. We learned something at each stop along the way to the interior of the jailhouse through a series of historical facts, spun into the stories of the characters involved in the notorious assassination, trial, and eventual sentencing of Canada's first politician, Honourable Darcy McGee and his alleged killer...the creepiestbthing of all, seeing the way the inmates were held and executed was it was all REAL! No Disney World here! VERY COOL!!

  • 4/5 E N. 3 years ago on Google
I found the haunted walk entertaining. The stories are historical, with a spooky twist, though it would be a stretch to call it scary... Definitely haunted though. It is nice to learn about Ottawa's history, and I would recommend locals to take in a tour.

Virtual Campfire Ghost stories. I have ''attended'' all the the virtual ghost story campfires to date There are 7 live streamed sessions so far. Each are interesting and focus on interesting topics. I like that after the livestream a link is sent to view the campfire session at a later time that might be more convient than the live event or to review the tour once again. The staff is amazing, patient when answering questions so you understand the events and location of the story , and it is fantastic time well spent and I am looking forward to more of the virtual campfires. I hope they continue for interested ppl that may not be able to attend one of the ghost tours when they start in person once again.

Virtual haunted campfire - London Bridge. History buffs would love this. Not my cup of tea. I thought it would be more like an actual tour or at least creepy ghost stories. It was like a creepy history lesson. A few slides. Mainly just talking. The guest speaker was very knowledgeable, but this was not a haunted campfire experience. Got my extended family to join, as we thought it would be a fun time. Not what we expected.

We've been participating in the Virtual Haunted Campfires since last fall and have enjoyed every one. They've gotten us through the cold dark winter with their spooky yet fun historical stories around Canada and the world. I can't thank the organizer, hosts and storytellers enough. They are lots of fun and a perfect way to spend an evening. Bravo!

A fantastic tour of an old prison in Ottawa. The place is quite scary and has myriad creepy stories attached to it. Learned a lot about its history with the help of our knowledgeable guide! Definitely recommended when you're visiting Ottawa. It'll add a different vibe to your visit. Some of the prison cells are also available to book to stay for some nights; so, if you want a different feeling from where you sleep at night, make sure you check that option out. I think they said the prices vary during the year but sometimes they could be as low as 30$ per night!!!

  • 5/5 Thanatos S. 3 years ago on Google
Went on the Jail Hostel tour. Parking was a little hard to find so we ended up late, but they were very kind and understanding. Covid precautions are in effect, tour guide took care to make sure everyone was distanced properly and was wearing a mask. Before you enter, they provide masks and hand sanitizer. Additional sanitizer is provided throughout. Stair handles are sanitized, and the cells are not in use at this time with the cell doors left open. This is relevant because for some mysterious reason, when I checked my photos later, this one cell door was closed. I don't recall it being closed when we were taking the tour. I'm not saying it's ghosts but...

Haunted Walk of Ottawa is a MUST-DO when you’re visiting the city, or if you’re a resident looking for a fun way to see the city in a brand new (spooky) light. I’ve done two of their tours - the original walk, and the Mackenzie-King Estate tour. Both were incredible. Highly recommend!

I've had the best time with Haunted Walk in Ottawa. Our guide, Jackie, is an amazing story teller. She always left us with the best of stories and potential hauntings, all while giving us good history lessons behind buildings we wouldn't otherwise always get to know about normally. I definitively recommend this, even if you're a skeptic. It's a very fun way to get to know the city, with an added twist.

Really well organized tour, the guys were super friendly and helpful! Especially since we were very nervous to try this and they made sure to make us feel safe and check in on us frequently to see how we were doing! They were frequently sanitizing due to COVID which was really reassuring! Highly recommend this tour to everyone, it is a lot of fun and really interesting!!!!!

We had a great time with the Phantoms of Yore. Our first event was to the Jail in L'Orignal. The second was to the Mill of Kintail in Almonte. The events were well organized, respectful of all of the current health guidelines, fun, interactive and creepy. We enjoyed learning the history of the locations, taking part in the investigations and getting some very interesting feedback from the paranormal. Well worth the time invested. We look forward to more local haunted events :-)

Really enjoyed this walk and learning about parts of the city I've lived in my whole life. It was really good because I felt like it wasn't only a tour with "ghost stories" but we also learned a lot about the history of the city in the downtown area. At times it felt our tour guide was a little bored maybe because she had to tell the same stories over and over again multiple times a day. Still 5-stars because it was overall enjoyable and I want this business to stay open!

We did the Haunted Jail Tour with Edward. He was knowledgeable and entertaining. The tour was interesting and just the right amount of fright for my preteen. She and I both enjoyed it.

Great way to get into the Halloween spooky spirit. They did a good job of keeping everyone socially distant and wearing masks. Glad I went!

Attended a Haunted Walk bubble tour. Our tour guide Allie was great - very informative, lots of interesting stories about the city. Fun way to learn about Ottawa's history, and visit some areas of the city I hadn't explored as a long time resident. Overall, had a great time and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fun evening out :)

Edward was our guide for the Haunted Walk of Ottawa. He was extremely knowledgeable and told informative stories every step of the way. We learned a lot about the history of the city of Ottawa and its sordid past.

My partner and I chose the Original Haunted Walk of Ottawa and we had a wonderful night. Top highlights include: historical facts, friendly guide, safety precautions (bubble walk) during covid-19.

Me and a group partook in a bubble haunted walk and it was great! We had a fantastic tour guide and quite enjoyed the content of the tour. Also, the guide did a great job ensuring bubbles kept physically distanced throughout the tour. 10/10 would recommend!

Went on two haunted walks this week, both were beyond my expectations and I could not recommend more. The tour guides were captivating and told the stories very well, the sights were also great! If you haven’t gone, I highly recommend. Especially if you are bringing family or friends from out of town.
