Beautiful old church in the middle of downtown Ottawa. Walking through the doors feels like stepping into another era and time just slows down. Multiple options for daily Mass make it possible for working professions to attend - a welcome change from the oft-seen 9:00 a.m. Mass convenient for no one with conventional working hours. Today, multiple priests were available for confession before Mass.

The Saint Patrick's Basílica in Ottawa is the oldest Catholic church for English speakers in Ottawa. It was founded in 1855. The church was considered a Basilica on St. Patrick's Day in 1995 when John Paul II was the Pope. It is located in the intersection of Nepean and Kent in Ottawa city, Ontario.

This place is a treasure, I've gone many times and even now on and off after many years. Even while no longer living near it anymore. Nostalgia! But ok, as far as a church goes, this is a wonderful bastion of faith. And located very pristinely in the heart of downtown, yet it seems in a small world of its own on the outskirts. This church has a good history, and is very expertly designed. The aura within and without match and coordinate perfectly, I find. And of course there is a small tinge of "Irish charm" to it, so to say. Maybe due to the patron it is named after, maybe the green that can be seen, but assuredly a mystique. Furthermore this place has a very lovely gift shop in the basement, a separate grotto, also underground, for more privacy, and even very nice and clean washrooms. This is a large and active church. A very wonderful and not so hidden gem. The art and feeling do justice. I'm glad it is present. ❤

A beautiful church. Friendly parishioners. We attended the 12:15pm mass. It was a solemn celebration. They have choir and they are good. The mass is in English but some part like the introductory of Gospel and Our Father part is in Latin.

So very disappointed in the commercialism and policing of this church. Just one example, is that I took a communion and put it in my pocket so as to give it to my mom and I was stopped and asked what I did with it. I told the person it was in my pocket and for my 78yrs old mom who was unable to attend the mass due to medical reasons and I was told that I had to speak with the Priest and he would arrange a time to administer it to her. I am certain that there would have been a fee for this? What I did not understand was why? Why did she have to wait for an appointment with the Priest? Moreover, why only can the Priest give it to her? Do they think they own it? May I remind the church that it is LOVE that heals and that communion is not OWNED by ANYONE… it is for all who’s intention is simply Love and Healing. In addition and to conclude, what disturbed me the most was that I was being watched and questioned to what I did with it and why I did not take it? I was so shocked when I was approached. I had to show him it and take it in my mouth in order to leave. The last place I expected to be policed was the church! After 50yrs of attending church I will not be returning. I send my love and wish of many blessed days. Good-bye

My family and I visited St. Patrick's to celebrate the Feast Day of St. Hubert of Liege, whom has exquisite stained glass at the Basilica. Thank you for the warm welcome and blessings we received along with the grace of God.

i am a convert since 2004 to RC church and my experience has been a radical change in lifestyle attitude and thought toward the church. I realize my experience is Gods will sharing my revelations within a community of people who are not bound by science or the act of commerce is what life is all about. The supernatural life is ours to gave and to share regardless of where we come from. St. Pats embraces all cultures equally without measure loving us all...

BEST confession and Mass schedule in the city. Also, it's beautiful inside, and the book/ gift shop is great!

Spiritual experience is preceded by architectural beautiness of the church (not only in itself, but also because of the reflections on the surrounding buildings) and the colorful interiors (vitrals and ceilings).

The parishioner priest that held the Baptism last Saturday for my friend's son is really great. He is actively interacting with visitors while at the same time preaching. We really had a great holy ceremony.

This church is my family's church. My grandfather paid for the Christmas creche that is put out every year, there is a bench dedicated to my grandparents in the basement near the grotto, my grandmother's funeral was held here, my husband and I were married here 25 years ago and I am shocked and disappointed to see that they now charge an exorbitant amount for weddings to be held there. What a way to discourage people from being married in the church.

We attended the funeral service of a dear old friend. This is a beautiful old church with stunning architecture. The lower level basement has been beautifully restored and renovated leaving the original stone walls natural enhancing its beauty. Facility is modernized with a reception hall, kitchen and modern spacious washrooms.

Picked up 2 books by Josef Pieper on the recommendation of Fr. Robert McTeigue SJ, at St Patrick's bookstore. Wonderful shop. Friendly staff. Afterward, I went upstairs to the sanctuary, which was stunning & thankfully, mostly intact, except for the protestant table. Sadly, it seems so many old traditional Catholic churches were whitewashed and protestantized. The 1970s, a self-destructive era in Western Catholicism for some reason. I prayed a Rosary in the sanctuary surrounded by beautiful holy icons, spiritually refreshing. Saint Patrick's is beautiful.

Saint Pat's is the best Church in town 😉 seriously though, the family all moved out to Orleans and they all still make the trip in every Sunday. Doesn't matter where I live in the city either, I'll definitely make the trek! It just feels like home ♥️
