Our room had a very nice view. But it was clearly part of the older original hotel, as the room insulation was very poor and we had to keep the heat up rather high in order to fight off the draft. Personally found the bed to be a little too soft and it caused back pain. The major issue I had though was every time somebody used the bathroom in a nearby unit, we could hear it. The walls were not very thick and the soundproofing was very poor. Can't really comment on the facilities because everything was shut down to covid.

Very nice, elegant hotel right in downtown Ottawa. The room service is perfection. Hotel is super clean. The price for the room you are getting is almost unbelievable. It's not a huge room, but the furniture is very nice, bed is soft, complete toiletries are provided and replaced daily, and you even get a little mint on your pillow after the make your bed for you each day.

To say we enjoyed our stays would be an understatement. From the booking process to the check in to the pool, everything went smooth. Every staff member we met was helpful and kind. The entire team, especially Anwar, really went above and beyond for us. We stay twice (once in the fall to check it out, and once in December for our wedding). They took care of all of our guests wonderfully (even the ones who they didn't know were associated with us, so we know it was sincere!). We can't wait to go back again, and will likely book our stay here every year for our anniversary. The rooms were clean and spacious, the park views at Christmas time were incredible, the proximity to all amenities was great. We have no complaints!

My experience at the Lord Elgin was absolutely fantastic. The service is top notch! Often on business trips I don't sleep well in hotel rooms but the bed was fantastic and having the ability to open the window for fresh air gave me the most wonderful sleeps. Something I am very picky about when I travel are the washrooms at hotels - the washrooms in these rooms are beautiful and the mirrors are great for putting on makeup. I would absolutely recommend this hotel whether it is for business or leisure! Such a 10/10 experience!

Stayed at the hotel from Saturday 19 to Tuesday 22, March 2022. The attention from the people working there was great, everyone was helpful and would anything in their possibilities to help you with your needs. The bathroom of our room looked really new and it was actually quite nice. The bed was comfortable enough, but we didn't like the pillows (they were 3 and we would have like 4, although we didn't express this to any of the employees), a little bit too 'thick' for our personal taste. The room was clean, we really appreciated the coffee machine and enjoyed the good coffee and the to-go caps. My partner and I used the pool (big enough to swim some laps and get some exercise!) and the whirlpool - The chlorine smell was a bit overwhelming in my opinion, but I am a bit sensitive with smells. The gym was simple, but pretty much had anything you needed, the bathrooms there were greatly equipped, having showers, lockers and even a dry sauna! The main reason for my 3 stars review is how poorly noise isolated the rooms are, you can literally hear everything from the aisles and if you happen to be in a room that is 'connecting' to another one, it will be extremely awful to hear everything they do in that adjacent room. I will add just a bad quality picture I have of the pool, just to show that it looked fine on a Monday morning.

I have stayed here several times over the years. My recent stay was just OK. First, I would like to stay. The staff is excellent. The room was very nice. I do wish it had a microwave but it did at least have a fridge. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed for renovations, but it has been very good when I have been there. Also, the Starbucks next door is permanently closed which I’m sure is no fault of the hotel but it was very convenient. Finally the pool was a little chilly Hot Tub very nice but unfortunately the men’s sauna was not working the day we were there. Overall a nice stay but a few disappointments.

I have stayed here in the past. Rooms are clean, staff are great, and Valet parking. Recently I reached out as an event planner for a Car Rally, and they were great to work with! Unfortunately COVID shut the event down, but again, the Team at Lord Elgin were fantastic to deal with! Thank you!

Location is ideal for anyone visiting Ottawa and wanting a central location for walking. The employees are exceptional! Very warm, welcoming, friendly and professional. The rooms are older (but gives character) and ours (527) had a very musty smell. After opening the window to air it out it seemed a little better. The young lady at the front desk was great. She offered to show us a different room and move us. The overall stay was great. The pool was a hit with my kiddo and the rooms are a decent size.

Historic hotel,a bit dated. Gives you that "walking back in time" feel. Our first room (724) had a musty smell. We relocated to another another room which was an improvement. The bed is comfortable and the shower has great water pressure. Great location to everything. Friendly service and food was good at Grill 41 restaurant. Nice pool and gym area, the sauna was very relaxing. Highly recommended scone witch, which is a few minutes walk away. Park at City Hall to save money. It's safe and well lit. Front desk manager, needs to upgrade her customer service training. Would I stay here again? Maybe not. It's nice place to experience a bit of Canadian history, once.

We loved our stay at this hotel. Really liked the valet parking, pleasant and helpful staff, clean throughout, beautiful view and walking distance to many of the major sights. A bit of an odd smell when I first entered the room. May want to work on that. Will definitely return to this hotel.

Not impressed, actually very upset. We had an employee from the Lord Elgin walk into our room with no announcement or knock, and a do not disturb sign on door. Just walked right in. Not cool. My wife was in the shower. If I was not in the room god knows what could have happened. We also waited 30 min. for our vehicle to be brought to front door, upon leaving, by valet parking. Not enough valets. You can actually feel the stress/ tension at the front entrance, clients wondering where their vehicle is. $481.00 for a night crazy expensive for Ottawa. I have stayed in much nicer hotels in Toronto for much less. Positive; very clean and great location. Will I go back. Not likely.

You can't beat the location of this hotel. Almost everything you will want to visit is within walking distance. 5 min from Parliament and the canal. Minutes from tons of restaurants. We had a king room. Smaller than other hotel rooms I have stayed in and a bit dated, but nice all the same. Unfortunately someone pulled the fire alarm at 2 am our first night and the hotel did not provide any compensation for the disturbance. Having only valet parking was not a big deal as we walked everywhere and didn't need to access our car. Overall it was decent.

Fantastic hotel. We stayed in room 748, which has a king size bed. The room was quite spacious with a lounge chair, desk, television, fridge, safe, and plenty of good lighting. The bathroom features a large shower which is large enough for two. Water temps were good, and the bathroom was well stocked with towels and soaps. My only complaint would be the valet service. It was good during out check in but the hotel was very busy when we were checking out. It took about 30 minutes to have our car ready.

I had an absolutely WONDERFUL experience at the Hotel! The staff were just fantastic. My room was clean and comfortable, the hotel concierge door man, front desk staff and housekeeping were SO friendly and happy. I needed some extra coffee and sugar and it was brought to my room immediately. I needed a needle and thread package and they obliged. My room key got locked into the room and they were able to get me in swiftly. The only recommendation I could give is to tell guests checking in where the ice machines are (they are on every other floor -even numbers). We spent quite a while searching for it. hahaaa. Its close to everything, and although the pool and gym were shut down we still really enjoyed our stay. Thank you!

Everything is amazing and gorgeous! Love love love that there is a hot tub. The staff are also above and beyond friendly and considerate. The valet even phoned to ask me if I needed the water bottle I had left on the driver's seat

I’ve stayed in Ottawa a few times (travelling from Toronto) and I’ll probably make this my new “home hotel”. The location is perfect: everything is a 15 minute walk at most, but being on the edge of the popular areas means it’s quiet at night. Staff was incredibly friendly, went above and beyond what they had to offer. The gym is sufficient; I didn’t use the pool but it’s a nice amenity! The fact they renovated a beautiful old building but kept many of the Art Deco details sealed the deal for me!

Stayed here on two separate occasions and both times were great! Close enough to everything and the rooms are spacious and clean. I'll look at staying here again if I'm in the city.

This is a very nice hotel. Well situated in downtown Ottawa and close to everything. The staff are friendly and professional. The room was spacious and laid out well for working and some downtime (I don't like it when hotel rooms don't have a single, non desk chair in the room). My suggestion for them is to change their pillows. The mattress was great, the pillows were not. Grill 41, the restaurant downstairs was very good for dinner, too

Room was small, average and clean. Bed was ok and pillows very comfortable. Nice clean bathroom with shower. No microwave in the room but one was brought up to me upon request and windows open for fresh air! Pretty park view, staff is friendly, Steve, the valet is great! Location is really good, walking distance to the mall, Shoppers, and lots of restaurants as well as Parliament if you’re into seeing that.

We recently were married and worked with the Lord Elgin hotel for a room block for our out of town guests. From our first interaction, the team at the Lord Elgin were responsive, kind, and so accommodating. The weekend of the wedding, I booked the Churchill suite to get ready with my bridesmaids and family in. The team greeted us with a celebratory bottle of sparkling wine and some chocolate covered strawberries when we arrived, which was incredibly sweet, and they also let us know they were available should we need anything. On top of the incredible service, the rooms were great! Clean, stocked with everything we needed, and very spacious. I know our guests especially appreciated the central location. Overall, I cannot say enough positive things about this hotel and the team there!

Our three-night stay at the hotel was disappointing, with two nights without electricity. The room was uncomfortably cold, and despite attempts with a portable heater, it was not suitable, especially for our kids. The heating system was non-functional, leading all four of us to catch a severe cold. For a highly-rated hotel, this experience fell short, making the cost unjustifiable. Regrettably, we cannot recommend it based on our unfavorable stay.

We stayed for a weekend. It was ok. Reception (no welcome or anything) initially told us that our booking had been cancelled. Told us to wait and then returned to let is know it was an error. Sure, cool. Valet was quite friendly. Appreciated them. Had forgotten my water bottle at the reception and only realised this after I had already changed for bed. Called the front desk to ask if it was possible for someone to drop it off upstairs and was told that someone would be up. Waited about 10 minutes and no one came. Eventually I just decided to go down myself (not ideal as it was late and I was tired) and found that my water bottle was just sitting there at the front desk with no one around. I quietly grabbed it and went. The room itself was good, but we had to turn off the fan in the vent because the air was blasting directly toward the bed. It's a good location and serves its purpose but wish that a bit more effort was put into having our stay be comfortable. For a hotel with the history and legacy of its eponym, the expectations did not match its reality.

Great hotel in a great location! We stayed in the Rideau Suite, which we normally couldn't afford, but they gave us a deal on a last minute upgrade. Beautiful room with great views. And can't beat the location! Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. They even left me a birthday card and chocolate in the room. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you to all the staff at the Lord Elgin.

Elegant charming hotel in downtown Ottawa. Some of the decor is a bit dated but this does add to the aesthetic. I have always found service here to be great (Steve the bellhop is lovely!) and the rooms are always nice and comfy. They no longer keep things in the mini bars so you do need to ask for them upon arrival. The breakfast at Grill 41 is a must have.

Beautiful hotel impeccably clean as always, stayed here years ago everything still looks magnificent! Tres tres magnificent hotel and service and even have valet parking at this time . Convenient to Rideau canal park trail and boat rides on canal and Ottawa River, and have dining on patio a few floors above Rideau canal so you have a great view of Parliament Building and Senate and Congress Houses And you can see Le Ottawa River also from restaurant ! Just beau !

This is the best downtown hotel in Ottawa. Friendly service from all the staff. Clean comfortable rooms. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping and attractions. And if you love the Pipes & Drums the Old Guard marches past the hotel at 9:45 AM all Summer long on the way to Parliament Hill.

Rooms were a bit outdated and dark (besides washroom which was modern), however room was a great size with lots of storage. Service was top notch from front desk, housekeeping and valet. Everyone was very kind and friendly. Location was awesome as super close to Parliament, Rideau Centre and restaurants. Taxis parked at hotel for easy travel as well.

Elia, who was in training (but could train others), made my check in and daily comings/goings, awesome. Service is great. This is a high end 4 star hotel. Great location. I parked at city hall underground parking and saved a ton of money. I didn't know where the entrance was to retrieve my car (Elia didn't work when I checked out), so that was an issue. Otherwise, everything was great. At the gym, only 1 cardio machine worked. They have a multi machine that basically covers all major muscle groups.

Just stayed in this historic & classic hotel during Canada Day weekend with my family - my wife & 2 kids. The hotel was close to all amenities as well as parks & parliament hill where the celebration took place. I was very happy that I have booked this hotel because of cleanliness of the hotel - room, hallway, lobby, gym, sauna, pool & etc. My family was extremely pleased with friendly staffs as well - especially Julia from the front desk who was very kind enough to.let us know activities that we could do during the weekend. Last but not least, the housekeeping was so kind & fast when I made my request for the needs in the room, which made our stay very pleasant. Thank you all for doing wonderful job!

I wanna start off by saying that this hotel is in a great location, and everything is walking distance. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Rooms are clean. However, there are some problems: 1- bathroom doesn’t have a fan 2- the bathroom door is a sliding door that doesn’t have a lock and randomly opens sometimes 3- the toilet is in a corner, so basically you have to use it sideways 4- sauna is very very small (only 1 person can fit) 5- gym is on the way to pool, so a lot of people are going through the gym to get to the pool, and its hard to use the gym unless the pool is closed (late at night)

  • 5/5 Adam W. 10 months ago on Google
Very good location. Very close to parliament hill, across the street from the canal, close to market. Has a reasonable gym with 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, and one stationery bike, not great cable machine, rack of hex dumbbells 5-50lbs, 2 benches and reasonable amount of free space to move. ~10-12m long indoor pool and hot tub. Spacious guest rooms, nice bathroom.

I did expect more from this hotel, based both on reputation and price. The good: Room was very clean with lots of lamps. The bathroom was modern with nice toiletries. Ordered breakfast by hanging the card on the doorknob, and it was great, on time, and hot (but no pen provided to fill out the card). The not-so-good: The room was uncomfortably warm all night. Turning the thermostat down all the way and even opening the window the small amount that was possible made no difference. And like many hotels, only a big heavy (too warm!) cover on the bed, no lighter blanket as an option. Checking in and checking out seemed to take a bizarrely long time. When I arrived, there was no lineup, but as I stood there waiting, I did wonder, "What can she possibly be typing?" Checking out, there was a lineup. I get it, morning check-out time may be busier, but there was room at the counter for more staff. Again, I watched people standing there for what seemed like forever, wondering what was actually being done on that computer 🤔. In the end, I didn't see a single person complete their checkout, and along with several other people, I tossed my key on the counter and left. I probably wouldn't stay here again unless my options were limited.

From Montreal we went for 1 night, celebrate wedding 22 yrs ago across the road in city hall. Hotel is GREAT. Location to downtown activities, bars and food is very convenient. Very clean, well maintained, staff very professional. Christopher at the front desk even gave us a coupon for starbucks, thank you Chris! we like Ottawa, people are friendly and polite. We did overnight parking in the city hall parking lot, a 3 min walk. we will return!

Everyone i dealt with at the Lord Elgin was personable, polite and helpful. The hotel was clean, the valet parking was very helpful and when we needed our car they always politely retrieved it within ten minutes. I would definitely stay at the Lord Elgin again when I return to Ottawa. I had absolutely no complaints. Thank you to all the staff - excellent customer service!

Great location, fair price, nice fireplace in the lobby area. Unfortunately when I was out of the hot tub I had dirt/debris on my suit and body. Also, rooms aren't cleaned regularly (due to COVID in May 2022). One must request through the front desk that the room is cleaned.

Very nice elegant vintage hotel. Great location!! Beds were AMAZING!! Nice staff, we felt sorry for bell men as not enough on staff to handle the number of cars for valet parking, we were not in a hurry so no problem waiting for vehicle to arrive. But they were hustling the whole time and doing the best job they could. We tried the hotel restaurant patio one evening, very good food and drink and great service!

Wonderful stay! We booked four nights at the Lord Elgin for ourselves and our wedding guests. The rooms were well appointed and the service was beyond excellent. It did not matter whether we were talking to chamber service or reception service, everyone went out of their way to accommodate and help. Our thanks to everyone and special thanks to Meghan Ramirez who coordinated our stay.

I had a great experience with Lord Elgin Hotel. I was in town for a convention and had some issues getting booked online, but a quick email to their booking department got everything worked out with no issue. I had an early flight on my arrival day and they got me into my room several hours early. The building is beautiful and it’s conveniently located.

An amazing hotel, rooms have nice view of the city, valet parking is amazing, and the restaurants ( The Keg, mostly ). Right outside of the hotel is a big public park, and walk a bit and you'll see the historic parliament hills. And also, they've put a coffee machine in each room for all hardcore coffee lovers. An overall great hotel, definitely giving this five stars!

We had a staycation at Lord Elgin this weekend and had a lovely experience. The room was clean and fully equipped with everything you would need. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. My husband had told the receptionist that it was my birthday and they brought up a beautiful piece of cheesecake and champagne with a personalized card. The customer service was impeccable and we had a wonderful night. Will be staying here again and would recommend Lord Elgin to anyone.

What an amazing time at the lord Elgin grill 41. Sue ,Kathy , Daphnee and Diana were superb. Made us feel like we were family. We would come back here just for them. It was a corporate event and they made everything go very smoothly. Very prompt drink order and food was amazing. I recommend to everyone.

We booked two adjoining rooms. One with a king bed and another with two double beds for our three kids to share. This hotel is so conveniently located and the rooms are wonderful and modern. Kids loved the large indoor pool and the restaurant and bar and lounge area were spacious and staff were so helpful.

Stayed 2 nights with my wife and kids and everyone was happy and comfortable with our room. The pool especially was a very nice temperature, there was a hot tub as well. We were close public parking so we did not use the valet. The staff were exceptional regardless. Close to everything and the park view was beautiful.

My wife and I used to go to the Starbucks in this hotel 11 years ago when we lived in Ottawa. We never could have afforded to stay back then. Well, things have changed, so we spent three nights of our Ottawa vacation at the Lord Elgin. We loved it! The room was small, cozy, and comfortable. We had a lovely view. The noises of Ottawa downtown can be pretty crazy, but the fan and white noise machine provided enough assistance with that. We slept fine. The hotel itself is beautiful but also laid back. We felt like we had the run of the place. The gym and pool are nice, the gift shop had everything we needed, and the Grill 41 is amazing. Most outstanding is the employees. They were so polite and helpful. They helped make this a memorable stay.

Well came with a party of 4 to attend a conference at the Shaw Centre. What can I say the service was just perfect. The staff gave me all attention I wanted. From the doormen to conceriage and the service personnel. Plus, the hotel is so historic just enjoying feeling the history down the halls. Unfortunately I did not use the gym and exercise facilities thus time. Finally I did call for some service to my room and very quickly what I asked for was brought to me 2 times within 2 hours. Just want to say that will return from my home in Toronto back to Ottawa. Thank you amazing staff at Lord Elgin.

Our stay was a short but excellent one. The rooms were clean and spacious. Front desk was friendly and valet parking was extremely accommodating. A special thanks though, goes to Cristina in the restaurant, for her superb service and humorous personality. The eggs Benedict were the best we have ever eaten. The bacon was so flavourful and had a caramelized sweet flavour. We would definitely visit the Lord Elgin again!!

Booked the lord Elgin hotel with the expectation that a beautiful building that the inside would be the same. First impression of the lovely lobby was great. The front desk staff were inviting. Upon getting into the elevator to go up to the fifth floor where our room was the elevator shakes and moves side to side so much that it’s unnerving. Once we got to our tiny room, we were greeted with a room that was so warm it was uncomfortable. We immediately attempted to turn the temperature down to no avail and unfortunately had to resort to opening the window, which looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. The bathroom in the room was so tight that they made it so in order to start the water in the shower you had to stand inside the shower and allow either the freezing cold water or scalding hot water soak you before you can adjust it to a reasonable temperature. Handy frost bite or burns. Also don’t attempt to point the shower head away from yourself because the pipes in the wall just move when you do. While showering you can see all the dirt and wear that never got cleaned out of the corners of the shower. After dinner we decided to check out the pool and hot tub and sauna facilities. We shouldn’t have bothered. The pool was so cold for a heated pool that it was uncomfortable to be in. Furthermore the hot tub looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. Completely cloudy and gross. My partner discovered completely missing tiles in the bottom of it. For a prestigious name and vintage hotel this was an unbelievable disappointment. Don’t support local and stay at a big chain hotel for cheaper.
