We booked online and when we showed up we knew instantly we made a mistake. I felt so unsafe there. The front desk person was very sweet. He even called us after we checked in to see how we were. He must have realized we are not his usual clientele. The room smelled of smoke so badly and of other activities as well. Bedding was flimsy as I'm sure no one actually sleeps there lol... we didn't dare put anything in the dresser as each drawer looked like it needed csi to come in and gather evidence. We even had other "guests" knocking on our door... then running away... on repeat.... Other hotels were all booked up so we stayed the night but immediately scrambled the next day to find other accommodations. I'm just happy i didn't see any crawly guests co sharing our room with us. Definitely not returning.

Hotel ideally located 10 minute walk to ByWard Market. That's all that's good about this place. It was hilarious to be told by the reception a charge of $25 will be added to the bill if you smoke/vape in the rooms when the smell of hallways/room make a fishmarket smell like roses! I also chose this place because breakfast was included. Look at the 3 items in the doggy bag... i was with both my children and this conveince was a joke. Also, we are in 2022... no coffee included in the room!?!

Clean room but it's old and it needs a renovation. The room feels a little bit unsafe (windows are locked with a piece of wood and the door has breakage marks and a loose secondary lock). Breakfast is really simple - a bag with juice, Muffin and yogurt.

If I can summarize this place in one sentence - You get what you pay for. RED FLAG #1 - I was told that I had to move my car because it is the owner's parking spot, although there is no sign that says "Owner's Parking". Can't the owner accomodate her clients a bit? There were 20 other vacant spots. Can she not park somewhere else? RED FLAG #2 - I wanted to talk to the owner because our room smelt like weed, the washroom smelt like urine, the carpet was dirty, and the lights were not working. She tells her employee at the front desk she does not want to talk to anyone at night. IF YOUR BUSINESS IS 24/7, COMMUNICATE WITH US WHO ARE GIVING YOU OUR MONEY. DO NOT TAKE OUR MONEY AND ACT LIKE WE ARE IRRELEVANT. RED FLAG #3 - All these mistakes were NOT our fault and she (the owner) insisted she does not want to upgrade our room for free. The least you could do is upgrade our room for free, it was only a 10 dollar difference, don't you think that will help our experience and in turn, help your reviews?

My most disappointing booking ever. Carpet soaked near the bathroom. A/C so loud we had to turn it off to watch TV and sleep in high 20C temps. There was no continental breakfast with one hour left to pick one up. There was no manager at the desk. Parking lot covered in sand.

I do not recommend this place at all to anyone. I don't even know where to begin! Rooms are outdated, and it just felt VERY uncomfortable. We didn't bother staying the night.

STRONG URINE SMELL - · Bathroom REEKED of URINE which permeated the whole room (also doors were really grimy - yuk), we spoke to other clients who had the same experience. Desk clerks seemed aware of the urine smell problem when we brought it up to them but did not offer any compensation. We stayed one night only and will not be returning.

Nice experience Clean rooms and washrooms But they took $200 security on debit Carry credit card then they charge only $25 security deposit. Got good breakfast. Genuine price. Always book room before arriving. Overall good experience

Very ghetto place. Cops positioned 1/2 block away. Desk staff is nice but basically hiding in the dark with the doors key locked from the inside to their ‘lobby’. Make no mistake, this is a strip motel. Across from a cannabis retailer. Ghetto neighbourhood with low Inc building next door. Many unsavoury looking male youths loitering in the halls out numbering their female sketch companions by about 9-1. Let’s just say moving the furniture against the door once you’re inside is a wise move.

The room is mediocre. You get what you pay for. The location is close to everything which is nice but pls be aware that this is in a ghetto neighbourhood. I dont think you’ll feel safe staying here. The rooms looks clean but dusty. They put the bfast on a goody bag and it comes with a yogurt a muffin and a kid’s juice. Unfortunately, I don’t recommend this hotel to family with young children. I’ll pay a little extra and stay at a more decent place.

Continental breakfast is a muffin and a yogurt given in a paper bag. Room door does not touch the ground, so we hear everything in the hallway. Room was very good looking! But some corners were clearly dusty. Room provided with microwave, fridge and hair drier. Parking is easy to access.

Booked online... A superior king room with a 2 person whirlpool tub. When we entered our room, there was a section cut out of the wall near the ceiling exposing pipes, no whirlpool tub and very dingy and door looked like it had been kicked open several times. Went back to the front desk thinking they made a mistake but was told no. Showed them our reservation to be told they don't even have whirlpool tubs. Argued about the price difference of what we booked and what we actually got and how misleading the website was, to be told nothing could be done. In the end it was almost 11pm and we had had a long day of travelling and an early start in the morning so stayed. They gave us a $12 discount. Would never stay there again and would not recommend. Horrible experience.

It seems they have a standard operation going on to either charge more and make the guest panic that they would think it would be hard to find available rooms in Ottawa . When we went to the reception they told me the booking was canceled. I did check my reservation and it was there. They just wanted a higher book price I am pretty sure will be charged like a 5 star hotel. Also the non smoking room, reeks with cigarette smoke and the room is very stuffy. Imaging staying there for 2 days with your family definitely would not recommend. Air-conditioning equipment probably have not cleaned for years.

I was there only one night and two days and everything was fine. Clean bedding, clean towels. I really don't know what people expect from low cost hotels? For me is important to be clean not new. Employees was super friendly and ready to help in any minute. I was reading previous reviews and some people was writing that they didn't fill safe... Personally i didn't have any issues about security... i only can say Thank you guys 😊 I'm giving 3 stars because owner can put little effort and do some updates in rooms like painting.... for everything else ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Was a teriible experience. Stayed for 2 nights but regreted a lot. Checked in at 6pm after travelling for 6 to7 hours. Went for shower and the moment i locked the door, entire knob broke and came into my hand. I got locked inside washroom for at least 1 hour. Luckily my friend was outside so he called management. And the guy came in with no idea how to open door. He called help from higher management but no body picked up his call.. afterall hardwork somehow he was able to open door. During this 1 hour in washroom , i experienced breathing difficulty and suffocation. I advice my friend to call 911 also but luckily door opened. So, I wouldn't recommend ECONO LODGE. If no other option left then make sure to check washroom doors throughly.. NEXT day morning, i asked guy at reception to change towels and soke basic cleaning but i guess they couldn't afford it. So, we basically had our entire stay qith no cleaning. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

Would be nice if the person answering the phone to make reservations could speak clear English. I hung up on him because he was incredibly frustrating and I couldn't understand a word he was saying.

Nice location close to everything in walk distance. Rooms are spacious but smell bad, broken furniture and pillows are so heavy of mites. If it's just one night I'd say, just go. If you need more nights, definitely find another place.

The location and included parking were great, but the room is dated, with dirty old carpet and a heater and air conditioner with filters that have never been cleaned and blow filth on you. The bathroom smelled strongly of mold/mildew, and we came back to our room filled with a strong pot smoke both days. I'm not sure this place is mostly a hotel or simply a cheap apartment downtown. We felt like we were intruding on a family neighborhood rather than staying at a hotel. I'm not against having a mixed building use like this, but would like to know beforehand and to have the permanent residents with their own private spaces and perhaps a courtyard for children to play. Our experience here was dirty and awkward.

“I had a fantastic experience during my stay at this motel, thanks in large part to the wonderful receptionist. (Specially Inder)Their warm and friendly greeting upon arrival set a positive tone for the entire stay. They efficiently checked me in, answered all my questions, and were always willing to help with any requests. The receptionist’s exceptional customer service truly made my stay memorable, and I would highly recommend this motel to others.”

A disastrous stay on every level maybe except the location not to far from Parliament Hill but the neighborhood is still not brilliant . A dirty and smelly room , locks do not operate very safely , the chain should break by pushing hard on the door . The hairdryer electric plug was burnt and was covered in hair , yuck! On top of that I booked two rooms for a one night stay with choice hotel reward points but the clerk at check out who did not seem to know anything about the hotel business wanted to charge me for the two room stay ! I sent emails to the hotel chain customer service and to the hotel management but no news until now ! Avoid ECONOLODGE OTTAWA at all cost when visiting Canada’s Capital !

Riddhi was great at the desk but the hotel is basic. Coffee machine wasn’t working and beds were okay. The main reason for a lower review is the druggies nearby. The location is fantastic though and the price includes breakfast too.

Stayed here for a night. Room was clean and had all basic amenities. Bathroom was also clean. You get what you pay for so it was very well worth the money and overall our stay was good.

Service gets 2 stars solely because I would need to time travel back to before 1999 to find INTERNET service this slow. If you need to use Maps or a Browser not gonna happen. Pages won't load. Plain text emails will send and receive provided they don't have attachments or html. That said the room and bed was very clean. Door locks worked great. Felt very safe. If you don't need internet this place is ok.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It's an older building and looks a little skuzzy but the inside have been updated and the beds are SUPER comfy. Everything you need (grocery, LCBO, downtown) is walking distance. A perfect place on a budget

NO SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY for customers. Breakfast in a bag while taking money by advertising for “continental breakfast “. No room cleaning service. Room was smelly. Never be recommended to anyone. Front desk never answers the call. They advertise for free wifi but you can’t use it inside the room- no connection inside the room due to poor wifi service. Not even water to drink- let alone tap water from their kitchen. Not pleasant environment of the lodge. Would not like to stay there while being in Ottawa.

Service front desk : Excellent and professional. The room, old but okay for the price. I didnt get a good night of sleep since there was a couple next door going into intense activities until midnight. But, when I told the front desk, they called them and after that it was okay. Overall, I would recommand this hotel for price, location and quality of the staff. Be aware that you get what you paid for. This hotel is 50% than the rest of the hotel in the area.

Reservation was easy. The check-in and check-out staff were both nice, accommodating, and helpful. Price was affordable. I also liked that I was given the upper room where it was relatively quiet. My questions were answered promptly. Room was alright. I'll recommend it to my family and friends. Thank you.

Bed was comfy, bathroom was large. Check in was effortless. Clean place, good location. 100$ room on a Saturday night. Can't beat it.

  • 1/5 Max T. 1 year ago on Google
I guess you get what you pay for but wow! I was supposed to be in Ottawa for only one night so figured i'd go for a cheap option. 80$/night ..cant beat that. The Pros: Gentleman at the front desk was very nice and room was quite basic but clean. Bathroom had a couple towels and some toiletries. The cons: 1- After checking in at around 3pm i went to run some errands, coming back 1 hr later, i could tell someone was in my room as my stuff were not at the spots i left them at..nothing was missing, but why would staff enter my room without letting me know...and for what? 2- Room 108 is next to an old ice machine room i could not sleep because of the noise it was making. When i went to the front office to ask if i can get another room, it was locked , lights out and no one was there. 3- You get "Free Wifi" but it never worked For the price i'd recommend adding an extra 30$/night and stay at a better hotel

  • 3/5 Scott M. 2 years ago on Google
The price for a room and free parking was reasonable and the bed was reasonable comfortable. Where it faltered was the breakfast, it was a simple continental: muffin, yogurt and juicebox (which is roughly what we expected). The muffin was not edible and the yogurt wasn't much better. If you need a quick bed for a night this place is adequate but I don't recommend it for a vacation

  • 4/5 Tim M. 1 year ago on Google
Rooms were actually really clean and nice. The beds are super comfy too. Neighborhood is a bit sketch but you’re in downtown Ottawa. For sure would stay again

  • 3/5 calcnerdm 1 year ago on Google
Pros: Close to major attractions. Decent rooms. Cons: Breakfast is a small basic muffin, orange juice box, over extracted coffee and a small yogurt cup. Think sending a small kindergartner off to school lunch. Bad neighborhood (drugs being done on the street). Several of the customers were shady. Overall: Pick somewhere else.

  • 5/5 Darby S. 1 year ago on Google
The staff member at the front was excellent at his job, very friendly person. The rooms were clean, quiet, and the bed had a memory foam topper which made it more comfortable. It's also located very close to Byward Market, you can walk easily. The only thing that was a bit weird were the kids loitering in the stairwell at different locations watching a soccer game or somthing on their laptop.

The staff member at the front was excellent at his job, very friendly person. The room had a STRONG urine and cigarette smell. We booked the room for two nights and stayed one night only and will not be returning.

  • 3/5 Sue M. 1 year ago on Google
Decent location and the room was clean and served its purpose. The breakfast seemed to just be coffee so we didn't go in. Could use more counter space and/or towel racks in the washroom but the whirlpool bath in our king bedroom was pretty great

  • 5/5 Kihong P. 1 year ago on Google
I stayed here for a night and it was just perfect with their great service and its reasonable price. The receptionist was very kind and funny. The room condition was great and especially I loved their A/C working perfectly. However it is not located in the safe district as long as a visitor from the other city feels.

  • 4/5 Corina R. 1 year ago on Google
Great location, within walking distance of all downtown attractions. Worked for us. Rooms were fairly clean, could use updating but kind of to be expected from a 2 star hotel. Room had a funny smell we couldn't get rid of (if we had a window that opened we probably could have gotten rid of it). I wouldn't call their free breakfast continental; it's a muffin, yogurt and juice box. Upgrading their breakfast and maybe airing out the rooms more often would upgrade the experience to 5 star. Overall, I got what I expected and was downtown for the fraction of the cost of other hotel options. Will be back.

Reasonable value for the money. Be cautions that you will hear most of the conversations in your neighboring rooms as well as noisy AC units. Ample paring and decent WiFi

  • 4/5 Claire M. 1 year ago on Google
Nice motel very closed to downtown Ottawa. The room was cleaned. Organization of the room could be better eg. shelf underneath the bathroom miror would have been nice to have. With "breakfast included" I would have like to know that breakfast was a little bag with a very sweet muffin, a yogourt and a juice.... that's all. We had coffed in the lobby. As general comments: motel was good for the price we paid!

  • 2/5 Mahdokht E. 3 years ago on Google
I got superior king bedroom for $90/night. The continental breakfast was included as well. But one juice concentrate, one muffin and one yogurt were given to us in a small pack. :)) Inside the room was clean and spacious. But the corridors Were dirty ( I saw some cockroaches and food and drink leftovers) and full of kids running and playing. The location of the hotel was bad and good. Bad since there were lots of homeless people smoking weeds and sleeping around the street. Good since that was downtown and so close to the parliament. The staff were friendly and responsive.

  • 5/5 Rick B. 3 years ago on Google
Very pleasant staff and a quite a beautifully modern room. Extremely please and my next visit to Ottawa i will definitely be staying there again.

Good value for money. Location is amazing. Walking distance to downtown and Canal Rideau. No kettle or complimentary coffee or water in room. No room service unless upin request for Covid ..Room cards sometimes lose data and have to go to the front desk . I recommend it to especially newcomers.

  • 4/5 Chukwuebuka N. 3 months ago on Google • 2 reviews New
The room is ok. Wifi service not strong. Front desk service is not bad tho. Price is fair. If you are looking for where to stay for a short period that is not expensive but budget friendly in Ottawa, I would recommend this place
