Moonroom was a great experience. Currently no dine-in and no reservation, it offers patio dining at the back. Patio has heaters installed so cold wasn’t a problem. They seem to be able to make all the classic cocktails, and deliciously! I would love to come back again.

We sat on the patio out back and had a great time. Our server was super knowledgeable and friendly, making the experience that much better.

Last year it was awesome, but unfortunately I cannot say the same about our last visit. Basically we got a drink we didn't like and returned it without really drinking it, were told it was our fault for ordering it and were still charged for it... read more details below. The ambience is still great but after we sat down it went downhill. We were browsing drinks but then also asked for the food menu, we were told that we get it after we order the drinks. Then we ordered drinks and while waiting we asked again for the food menu, again, we were told that we can look but the order will be taken after the drinks arrive. (It is basically their policy that drinks sometimes take longer so you won't end up with food first. The whole situation was just weird and very unpleasantly answered when we asked.) Then we ended up with a cocktail that was not good, it was a sour drink topped with egg white, which we usually really like but in this case the smell of the whites was overpowering the whole drink. After mentioning it to our person, the drink was taken away and we were told that is basically our fault, because the drink is exactly what it says on the menu and we were also told that if we want another cocktail, it will take long time but if we want beer, that will be quick. The way it was handled it was just weirdly rude. In the end we were charged for the whole cocktail, it was the first time we did not leave a tip in a bar.

Had a lovely experience at the Moonroom! Went for 6pm on Friday night (was a bit rainy; no wait for a table) before going to the 8pm show at Absolute Comedy. Hadn’t been to Moonroom since moving to Ottawa in 2014, and 7 years was too long to leave in between visits. Service was warm and friendly, and the atmosphere was so cozy. No indoor seating is available right now, so all seating is on the patio. We were seated in the covered section, which was very intimate and pretty with the lights. Food and drinks were amazing. I had the Cocoa Caliente cocktail, which will definitely warm you up! Also had the grilled cheese, which was fantastic. Need to come back more!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Moonroom Lounge in Ottawa and I must say I was thoroughly impressed. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the lovely ambiance and attention to detail in the decor. The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, making me feel right at home. The cocktails were simply outstanding - the mixologists clearly have a passion for their craft and it shows in every drink they create. In addition to the fabulous drinks, the lounge also offers a delicious menu of small plates and snacks. I particularly enjoyed the truffle popcorn. Overall, I would highly recommend the Moonroom Lounge to anyone looking for a sophisticated and enjoyable night out. Whether you're looking for a cozy spot for a date or a lively gathering with friends, this place has it all.

Definitely one of the best cocktail bars I've been to in Ottawa. First their outdoor patio is so beautiful and it's covered! Only thing is the high tables are a little uncomfortable but other than that it was a great experience. The server was very knowledgeable in mixology so she helped us understand the drinks.

Amazing food and drinks. We ordered takeout drinks for our anniversary and they were fabulous. Drinks came in a Mason jar, with a metal straw, ice, matches and a candle. Best drinks in Ottawa - by far. You guys rock!!!

Hello and welcome to the nth review to address the racial prejudice of this establishment. My partner and our two other friends of Arab origin were humiliated by the owner and security when they unexpectedly kicked us out of their bar simply for asking to move to a different table, politely. Seeing multiple bad reviews from other people of colour only further validates the discriminatory treatment we experienced before even having placed an order for overpriced and pretentious cocktails. I have been to Moonroom numerous times before this incident and enthusiastically referred family and friends on multiple occasions. It is surprising that the owner, Tracy, did not recognize me after my repeat patronage. After declaring that this bar was her house and goes by her rules (a totally unprovoked statement) she proceeded to send a physically imposing white male staff member to tell us to leave and that we would not be served, with no explanation. I could maybe excuse the hostile treatment as a bad day during difficult times, but especially after seeing other POC reviews, I will choose not to gaslight myself on their behalf. So disappointing to see what I considered a cherished establishment go down this way.

We’ve been coming here for almost four years now- love the cozy vibe inside, always a fun and delicious cocktail and small plates menu, service is consistently great. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. It is a smaller bar so believe group limit is 6 but would definitely recommend this place for a date night or drinks out with a few friends!

The cocktails were delicious pieces of art. They are innovative and combined so many flavours. The taste sensation was very rich. The servers are very knowledgeable, professional and gave attentive service. The food also used unusual combination dishes.each small plate was textured with many different ingredients. They were fragrant and delicious. I recommend this top-shelf resto for an unique night of gastronomic pleasure.

I can’t say enough good things about the vibe, staff, food and drinks here. Even in patio-only times! Just wear leather, bundle up and enjoy their hot totties, mulled wine or that amazing coffee with rum and butter in it! Omg yum!

I thoroughly enjoyed their espresso martini and the too soon cocktail. The too soon cocktail was too good to just have one of so I ended up ordering 2 rounds of it. A nice and cozy bar to grab a great cocktail!

This is one of coziest and cutest backyard patios I have seen around the Preston area! I love the fairy lights and how the garnish comes from their actual garden. The Garden Cocktail is their version of an Aperol Spritz, and it’s delicious. The staff was friendly and the service was fast. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s worth it.

A cool spot on Preston street for cocktails and snacks. Great patio in the back, but we got a table by the front. Had their Absinthe Minded cocktail - very delicious. Not usually a fan of liquorice but the citrus notes made the drink very unique and delicious. Had the truffle popcorn as a snack - love the salty notes and goes well with the drink.

The Moonroom is a fantastic spot to meet friends or a date for delicious cocktails. The drinks are of a very high quality and the prices reflect it. The bar staff are very polite and always ready to give you recommendations to find you the perfect drink. The meal options are a bit limited, with just tapas style dishes on the menu. They're good as a snack but at their price, not worth it if you're looking for a satisfying meal. The Moonroom is worth it for any craft cocktail aficianado looking to wet their whistle.

We've been there many times this summer and we keep going back. The service is excellent and the cocktails are fantastic. Great atmosphere for some late evening cocktails. Nice patio with a great vibe. The head bartender is amazing. Tell her "dealer's choice" for your next cocktail and you will not be disappointed.

Such a cool place, right down to the owner. You feel like you're in NYC or some such high-end city. Service is on the slow side, but that's the style. Drinks are excellent; they don't F-around w the final product. No more jukebox but who cares? Classy staff, quirky, fun room & patio. It's that place that you can go w pals, or, if in need of decompressing, can have a private-ish table to yourself. Really good place, no arguments.

I was a regular and the place has a great ambiance with great selection of cocktails. However, I am not a big fan of steep price increases. Cocktails have gone up to the $20 range and cheese of the day $16 for 30 grams. If it was New York or Singapore on a roof top terrace, sure I would have paid the premium but not for this place.

Just walk in the door and you’ll feel it. Talk with honesty about the taste and depth that you’d like to to enjoy and it will be ready for you. Listen to the music and you’ll wish you could stay just for the effort put into creating acoustic pleasure. Bring someone you love and touch them next to you.

I don’t think this place is worth the hype, unfortunately. The ambience was really nice and the service were great but the cocktails were just overpriced for what they are. For $20 cocktails, I expect great and innovative cocktails but that was not the case. The Mai Tai had sad dark leaves of mint and the taste was just meh. The mulled wine I got was OK but overly sweet and came in a tiny coffee cup.

The staff was really nice and the atmosphere really cool. I just found it really expensive. $18 dollar drink, however, I think because of the alcohol in the drink that's why it cost more. The food is meant to be shared so you'd have to order a lot I think to be full. Definitely don't get a full meal option.

Cozy, romantic place perfect for a date night. The service is attentive. Music could be a little bit too loud. The cocktails are delicious and the “tapas” style food is a perfect match. At the moment my favorite cocktail bar in Ottawa.

  • 4/5 Mitchell S. 3 years ago on Google
My group had a great time here; really enjoyed the vibe especially with the pellet stove next to us. We were there late finishing our drinks (I felt bad but it happens) and they didn't rush us at all. I did find the prices to be high but would recommend for special occasions.

  • 4/5 Caitlin C. 2 years ago on Google
Very tasty and creative cocktails and snacks in a very pretty and cozy atmosphere. As of this writing, they are only open for outdoor service still, but they’ve made the most of it with heaters on the patio. Staff is super friendly and attentive. My only complaint is that the cocktails are substantially more expensive than most other places in the city — I think a mug of warm cider was $18. A version of an old-fashioned was $22. And a (delicious) grilled cheese sandwich was also around $18. I realize they might be charging closer to cost-of-living prices than other places, and perhaps this is simply the new reality of eating out. But I have to admit the bill did cause a moment of sticker shock for a place that’s lovely but not what I’d call “fancy.” Still, very much recommended.

I love this place but the prices have been really taking me aback recently. Their back patio is romantic and magical. Go prepared to spend a pretty penny for drinks, but is is an atmosphere like no other.

First time at the Moonroom, stopped in for a pre dinner cocktail. I've heard great comments regarding this place and was not disappointed. Service, ambiance and the now required extra health and safety measures were all excellent. Tried the Pierre Noel cocktail, it was delicious. Looking forward to my next visit.

  • 4/5 Georges 9 months ago on Google
You can count on two hands the place in Ottawa that are worth visiting. This is one of them. The cocktails are not cheap, but you pay for the atmosphere and excellent service and cocktails. My one issue is that my friend's cocktail took a long time to arrive; when I ordered mine, it arrived almost instantly. Otherwise this would have been 5 stars. Lemon cookies are rich and buttery just as usual. The patio, as beautiful as the interior, isolates you from the noise on Preston, mitigating the terrible design of this city.

  • 5/5 Stuart S. 3 years ago on Google

  • 3/5 Leah M. 9 months ago on Google
I have always loved this place The cocktails and ambiance, and snacks are amazing! However, the service was so terrible last time I visited. The service used to be very good, but I had to wave them down to get water a drink and had to remind them we ordered popcorn. I expect a long wait for a good cocktail, but over an hour for me is too long it seemed like they forgot about us completely. They need to hire better servers like the ones previously, but otherwise, it is amazing. It's unfortunate because it makes me hesitant to return when I have been a customer for years, even after moving to Toronto.

Dont waste your money, i'm only giving a one star because i have to. Nothing special about this place, over priced and too crowded even during a pandemic. I had a really great server once w coloured hair but she hasnt been there since the pandemic. My friend was with me once after they opened from lock down and they are not POC friendly at all.

  • 3/5 Taylor R. 1 year ago on Google
The ambience will literally transport you, it's so moody and cozy, like being in a blanket fort on vacation. That being said, in the summer, with all the candles inside and little ventilation, it was deliriously hot. The service was almost non-existent until we asked for help multiple times just to been initially seen. When we were seen the staff were very pleasant and apologetic. We had asked for the first available spot on the patio while waiting inside but watched as 3-4 other new arrivals got sat outside and we were forgotten about again (we never got to go outside). It seemed chaotic (maybe understaffed or way too small of a space for the volume of people). There were 5 people behind a tiny bar at one time literally climbing on the countertops to get around each other - it was actually wild. The drink prices are insane. I'm a bartender/mixologist and none of the ingredients warrant that price gauging. The biggest issue for me is the lack of variety in the drink bases. Everything is citrus based. As someone who doesn't like citrus, there was nothing creamy/floral/nutty/tropical, etc for me. Everything is with lime/lemon/orange juice and sour/bitter pretty much. In conclusion, I think it's overrated but the atmosphere was esthetic, intimate, and cozy. The staff seemed friendly. White guy there with cornrows is a bit in poor taste but he was friendly enough.

I was excited for the Moonroom "experience'. I ordered an Old Fashioned and a beef tartar. I took one sip of the drink but it wasn't enjoyable at all. I apologized to the waitress, told her I wouldn't be able to drink it and asked for a replacement vodka soda. Half an hour after ordering I asked how much longer it would take for our food to arrive. A few minutes later I was told they had "forgotten to place the order.' When the bill arrived, I was surprised to see that they charged me $20 for the Old Fashioned . The owner or manager said that It was my problem that I didn't like their version of the drink, and that she wouldn't take it off the bill. I expressed my concern with the "customer care experience" and mentioned that this would be my last time at the Moonroom. For anyone looking to enjoy amazing drinks, food and customer service that will make you want to go back over and over again head over to Mati down the street. I have NO affiliation to Mati - “not sponsored”.

  • 4/5 Ridwan A. 3 years ago on Google
Absolutely beautiful scenery in the evening. Their use of fresh herbs from their garden makes the drinks taste fresh and light. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is due to their overcrowded space during quarantine. However, the protocols were still followed. Less crowding is personal preference. The customer service was fantastic here, waitress/host was great at explaining what each drink contained and the drinks themselves were amazing. Would highly recommend trying at least once.

We initially sat on lawnchairs which were the only chairs available which was fine. Our initial server, I believe his name was Drew, was fantastic! We asked to be moved to a table as we wanted to grab a bite to eat, the atmosphere was enjoyable and the patio was super cute so we wanted to stay longer just somewhere more comfortable. A more comfortable looking table opened up and we asked an older lady who worked there if we could be sat there, she looked at us, smiled and said “No, ahah” we were positive she was joking so we laughed with her. She then said “No, you ladies are perfectly comfortable here, we have people lined up at the door waiting to be seated.” I was in shock. I myself work in the industry and would have never responded that way to a guest...because of this we decided to ask for our bills. We couldn’t believe how rude and weird that interaction was. The drinks cost $ 40 And were barely four ounces of liquid each which I was not expecting. This wouldnt have bugged me had we been treated better. Ive had better interactions with servers in a fast food restaurant...overall just very disappointing experience.

The garden mojito was very strong, not in terms of alcohol content but in terms of mint and lime. Way too sour compared to regular mojitos and tasted like you're eating mint. The reverse Manhattan is very very bitter so get that if you like bitter drinks. Service was friendly and professional though. Service and atmosphere were the only two redeeming factors of my afternoon at Moonroom

  • 5/5 Diane R. 3 months ago on Google • 1 review New
Great evening with friends at the moon room on Preston. Great ambiance and service. The staff were very friendly - loved the specialty drinks and appetizers (as you can see by the photo, the bacon wrapped olives were eaten before I could snap a photo 😀). Lots of attention to details in both the drinks and food. A great experience!
