What an amazing experience. This has got to be one of the must-do activities if you’re visiting or living in Ottawa. The tour guide (Marie Pierre) was fabulous. She was a wealth of knowledge and information. She was also kind and friendly at all times, showing respect and care, just like our true Canadian values. She was also very capable of handling all questions and used every opportunity she had to ask us, the audience, some questions of her own. The tour was also fun and interactive for all kids and adults. You could hear everyone wow-ing and amazing at all the displays, the machines, etc. What an awesome experience! I already want to come back to see it all again.

It was a great experience to visit this Royal Canadian Mint. As you get the ticket, the information you about the time that you can join the tour. You have to go to the minting area with a guide. There is a gift shop as you enter, where you can wait for your time and browse the items. As you begin the tour, you go down to where all the minting takes place. As it is a facility under security, photography is not allowed while you are on the tour. The tour is very informative, and you learn about the history of minting in Canada. The facility in Ottawa is where they Mint coins for investment and commemoration. The tour is very well planned and takes long for about 45 minutes. The only issue is that the guide spoke very very fast. Slowing down the explanation and speaking more concisely helps the visitors during the tour.

I took a tour here and it was pretty fun and I learned about the sophisticated coin making process! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. In the shop there is a large variety of collectible Canadian coins and I bought some of them as a souvenir. There are also photo opportunities outside of the mint building but unfortunately photography and videos are not allowed in the factory tour as the production is private. 100% definitely worth going here!

Tour was $12 and worth it. My tour guide Christopher was awesome and very knowledgeable about everything Mint-related. As an amateur collector and enthusiast, I really enjoyed the tour. You can also visit the boutique for free without a tour booking. Tours get sold out (today's was sold out) so I would recommend booking ahead online.

It’s an amazing place. They show how the Canadian coins are made. They have four shows in the evening, but better reserve online. The souvenir shop (or boutique) can be accessed without the reservation ticket. I recommend this shop as they have amazing coin collections! A must visit place in Ottawa.

The Royal Canadian Mint is located at 320 Sussex drive besides the National Gallery of Canada. It is the place where special collector coins are pressed and punched from elaborately carved dies. This manufacturing process is described on their tour where you can learn more about the mint's rich history. Lol You may also hear about the 2015 story of a former mint employee, Leston Lawrence who was convicted of stealing gold pucks with an estimated value of $165,000. The court claimed Lawrence hid the gold pucks, the size of a small muffin, inside his rectum to get past the Mint's employee security gates. Lawrence was sentenced to 30 months in prison and ordered to pay $190,000 restitution within 3 years after his full 30 month sentence. If Lawrence fails to pay the full amount of restitution, he could face re-encarceration for an additional 30 month sentence. If you like my reviews, photos or videos give them a thumbs up. But please don't put the thumbs up in the wrong place. Lol

I remembered a school trip to visit the mint back in the 70's being so interesting and i was so happy when we were able to visit in June of 2022. A 45 minute tour at a cost of $10 per person was well worth the time and money. Such an interesting place with the tour providing a view into the everyday production area of the mint, seeing rolls of gold and silver awaiting finishing and pressing, details of specialized equipment created just for the mint, with historical data being offered too! The gift shop offers a nice selection of items with the opportunity to purchase investment coins. A great place to visit when you are in Ottawa. Due to security reasons "No pictures" to share, but go online, I'm sure they have some there

It’s a great 1 hour tour around the mint and you get to see how they make the investment coins in real life. You also learn about the history of coins in Canada, but I felt the historical information were very fractured and focused only on monetary values of the coins. We didn’t get to see the gold bar, and overall it did unfortunately feel like we were being advertised to throughout the time. The tour guide was very helpful though.

This was a super interesting visit and I would recommend going on the tour! There’s a small fee ($10 for adults) which I think is reasonable and the tour provides a lot of cool facts about the Mint and Canadian history. There isn’t any parking so you can either find meter parking close by or a paid parking lot.

Loved the visit. If you can do it in French, I think you get a smaller group to visit with which is always a plus. Lovely people at the boutique as well.

Concerned about the new additions to which the Mint will not be liable for the loss, damage or destruction of the gold or silver bullion owned by ETR holders and held by the mint. As if a pandemic and a U.S. election tomorrow is not enough to be concerned about. Did they really need this much time to think to add nuclear reaction, etc … to the list to conform to the insurance policy? And shouldn’t the Government of Canada be the Insurance Provider fully backing the safekeeping of the bullion? Not reassuring ! As long as Canada is able to remain being a country I believe they should fully back the bullion. They have the privilege of governing me in return for safety and security of life and property. Attached are 2 screen shots from the email I received 5PM Monday November 2nd, 2020

Tour was about 30 minutes long. Unfortunately, was at noon so not as much action to be seen. No real opportunity to linger and watch anything that could be interesting as it's a guided tour. Photography not allowed during the tour. Being the mint, they even put money in the bathroom. They have a real gold bar for you to try lifting in the gift shop.

I've always wanted to visit the Royal Canadian Mint but it was a visit from my B.C. coin collector sister that made it happen. Getting there is the first issue because it is in a busy Ottawa area being right next to the Parliament buildings and other national buildings. However, parking in the underground parking of the National Art Gallery solved this problem. These two national institutions are only a couple of blocks apart and an easy walk. The Mint is an impressive building to see and entry to its surroundings is guarded by an RCMP officer. You pause before entering the Mint to read the sign and stare up again at the tall building. Once inside, you take an elevator or stairs up to a large gift shop. Most people buy colourful souvenir coins but I purchased a lovely scarf and a pin made from a maple leaf. I did not buy the $10,000 coin on display! It's in this area where you meet to take the 3/4 hour tour if you bought a ticket when you first entered the Mint building. The tour is very interesting as you move through various areas and see souvenir coins in various stages of preparation. The guide is knowledgeable experienced and friendly.

We paid for the guided tour ($12) a person. It was actually quite an interesting tour with great information. They no longer do general circulation coins here, but do collectors coins, limited edition and coins/bars for investments. I'd add photos but they are not allowed inside for security, apparently they keep a whole lot of gold there.

I always love taking friends and family to the mint when we have a chance in Ottawa. Not only is it cool to see all the creations, but where else do you get to lift a bar of real gold!? So cool.

Must visit when you are in Ottawa. Tour coat $12 per person, and it was 100% worth it. Our tour guide, Christopher, was funny and knowledgeable. I wasn't expecting much, but it was really cool to see the amount of work that goes into making the coins. Boutique had some cool things to see, touch, and buy if you so desire. No photos or videos allowed during the tour but allowed in the shop. It was great to see the 30-pound gold brick in the gift shop. Highly recommended.

It was a guided tour which shows how coins are made in Canada. The tour guide explained to us how each machine have individual jobs to make the coins in perfect weight, size and detail. Would recommend to buy tickets in advance. There is no online options available for buying the tickets but you can email and call them up to book your slot. Overall the tour was amazing!! Lot of fun and interesting things to learn. Kids of age 7-12 will enjoy a lot. They have a souvenir shop where you can buy real gold and silver coins. Photos were not allowed inside during the tour due to privacy issues.

It was a good place to visit. Be sure to understand scheduled tours to be part. The public store is equally interesting to appreciate the business of the mint here in Canada, plus other countries. There is a lot of coins to see and purchase.

Quick review:If you wanna have a great little visit to somewhere a bit different from the rest of Ottawa, go to the Canadian Mint Long review: if you actually wanna go to the mint buy your tickets in advance as in 2+ weeks ahead, depending on when your going they will be booked and you'll only have the French option and their times are based on government facilities times so be aware of that, also it's easier to walk to the mint rather than taking a cab, due to the area usually being busy but at the same time it'll same you money walking there and you'll gain an experience from the local area, overall if you like coins and just wanna have a nice time checking some out, go over and have a fun time 🙂.

Fantastic place incredibly interesting it is also a great way to get the adults and children alike to collect coins. One thing that I didn't like is in our nation's capital our great country Canada they packed up our purchase in a bag made in China. I'm sure that in the times we are facing close to a recession it would be great to help all our local businesses just a thought. Had an amazing time there 2 thumbs up 👍

I bought a couple of coins as gifts online. It went smooth and the products arrived quickly and in perfect condition. The only reason for a 4 instead of 5 star review is due to lack of access. If you are looking for anything of limited production, you had better be part of the masters club, or you will only have access to the leftovers. The different tiers of members get up to a week to buy these coins before the general public has access. You have to spend a considerable amount of money there per year to qualify for the different levels of the masters club. To end on a positive note, the coins I purchased were absolutely beautiful and perfect in every detail! I am certain you will be pleased with whatever your choice is.

Enjoyed the tour. Got a private tour since it was the last one on that day and we were only family on that tour. Had a great guide...very knowledgeable kid even though he was new to that place. Very interesting process of minting coins of collectibles. It was interesting to know that unlike US, they do not print bills here. Must see place in Ottawa.

Awesome tour and great tour guide. If you are at all interested how investment and collection coins are made, you will enjoy the 40 minutes here. The tour takes a loop around a upper catwalk with windows on every stage of the production process where you can freely ask questions and observe the workers on their various tasks. The gift shop staff was also friendly and informative. No photos allowed for obvious reasons.

Very interesting place to visit. To should know ahead of time that only commemorative and investment coins are minted there. The coins that are in circulation are minted in winnipeg. The tour was informative and was very interesting to see so much value in the precious metals they have. The tour lasts about 30 to 45 minutes. We learned a lot. It would be very interesting for families. The tour lets you look down into the process of minting coins.

Wow! Pretty cool visit of the installation. You see the whole fabrication process from the smelting to the final product. The personnel are knowledgeable and friendly. It really shows that they love what they're doing. Note that you can't take any pictures inside the installation. Save a little in advance for the shopping, they have a great selection of numismatic coins.

We really enjoyed the tour lead by Joe and would definitely recommend a visit. The tour was very informative about the history of coin making in Canada and the exacting process from start to finish.Exciting to learn that Canada was the first to add color to coins and the first to combine two metals into a coin! I also enjoyed seeing Olympic medals that were made at this location.

Excellent tour (& good value too). Christopher was entertaining and knowledgeable. Lots to see for both adults and kids. You get to see real bullion and memorial coins being made and at the end, if you want, you can pick up a real gold bar worth a cool $1.2 m. Pick up, as in feel the weight. If you want to pick up, as in buy, that can be arranged... No pictures to show because no cameras allowed. Surprise!

Very informative guided tour ~45min. Photo or video recording is not allowed. You must take the tour you were registered for (I did through their site, in advance). It's an okay tour, you walk through a viewing platform overlooking some of the equipment but the tour lacks technical detail (more aimed at kids I felt). Takes about 30 minutes. No pictures allowed due to proprietary technology used.

The tickets are timed, so the groups are not so large. The quality of work is amazing. The architecture is also beautiful so take a moment to enjoy that. Seems to be fully wheelchair friendly, but an elevator must be used to start the tour so ask to use it asap so you don't miss the first bit of tour speech.

We went to the Boutique/Gift Store only. When you walk up to the gate, just simply tell them, they will let you in and tell you where to go. The building itself is incredible, and the store is no exception. We bought a couple of coins and got a deck of cards thrown in for free. Yannick behind the counter was an absolute rock star! He made us feel welcome, gave so much information, and you could just feel the passion that he has for his job! A thousand times THANK YOU!

Incredible and proud Experience!!! Thats right when a Canadian realize that Canada makes world’s best gold and silver coins!! There are 2 Royal Canadian Mints, Winnipeg and Ottawa. Winnipeg location makes all circulating coins; This Ottawa location makes collector and investment coins. There is a 45 minutes tour provided when you reach at this facility. If you are visiting on weekdays, you could see actual functioning of making these best crafted coins. This tour provides new information and knowledge behind the scenes of the incredible silver and gold coins. Admission is $8 per adult and less fare for kids.. Family of 4 will only be charged like $20 or so.. There is a boutique where you can buy number of artistically created collector coins. Those are limited number of coins. Once these limited collector coins are sold in full, these will not be available anymore because the dye used to make it already been disposed off, thats why these coins are much valuable than the price you pay!! In the boutique, you could get to hold and lift a gold bar weighs 28lbs worth $700,000!!!. Tour guide explains various aspects of processing of gold and silver bars from mines to coils and then to coins!! If you are visiting Ottawa, don’t miss this place. Afterall, we Canadians are Worlds best silver and gold coin maker with an achievement to reach 5 nine purity!! That is 99.99999!!!!

I've been to the mint quite a few times now and I have enjoyed each visit. I thoroughly enjoy the mint (though if you're not into coins, I understand this might not be your thing). I would recommend trying to take the tour during the week (but not around 3 pm - that's shift change I think) as you get to see the employees hard at work. The tour on the weekend is cheaper but there are few if any workers on the floor and the tour relies more on videos of the processes taking place). The tour guides I had were both informative and very friendly; they had tons of small tidbits and stories about the building to share. I had no idea the mint makes currency for other countries as well! If you just want to go to the boutique to check out new coins (or purchase a few you have your eye on) you can simply ask for entry to the boutique; they give you a receipt and admission to that is free. (If you later decide to take the tour, you have to pop back out to the ticket booth to purchase a spot. Better sooner than later as they seem to fill up quickly!)

Very interesting tour. It covers the coin manufacturing process. Definitely worth the time for a visit. My 6 years old son also enjoyed the tour a lot. The gift shop carries a lot of different collector's coins. No photos or video allowed in the tour so if you plan to bring your heavy DSLR, you should leave it at the hotel or home.

This historic building is beautiful and inside you can visit the boutique which has many souvenirs and coins you can purchase! During regular hours (non covid) they have a gold bar that you can apparently hold and even lift up which is pretty cool! No tours are offered right now because of covid but when they resume be sure to make a reservation because the spots on the tours are limited! Something also to note is that there is no parking on site so you have to find parking elsewhere! Personally, I find the underground parking at the national gallery next door is the most convenient 👌 or you can try your luck at street parking. A must visit during your trip to Ottawa.

Tremendously disappointing service. Ordered birthday set of coins for a gift. That was two weeks ago - still have not received. The mint did not provide tracking numbers to track the shipment. At mercy of postal service. If you are not in a rush or don.t care what happens to your coins then ordering from the Mint would be ok. In my case I care what happened and will NOT be ordering from the mint.

(Translated by Google) Hello, Do not order with this company, I have been waiting since December 5 (almost 2 months) for my piece and there is no way to speak to a manager, each time I call I am told which is on the way but I never receive it. Really bad after sale service.

One of the highlights of my trip to Ottawa. It helped that I am a coin collector and wanted to see the mint responsible for many a silver coin I have purchased over the years. The tour guide was great and gave me a lot of insight into the operations of the mint. They only make bullion and collector coins at this mint. The circulating coins come from the mint in Winnipeg. Was cool to see several hundred thousand dollars in rolled up bands of solid silver and a robotic machine measuring gold and silver coins for precise weights. At the end of the tour is a gift shop. Save your money and just ask the cashier for change and they will give you uncirculated coins fresh from the Winnipeg mint at face value. Got the new special edition Armistice and D-Day toonies.

Was an amazing choice for a nice, easy outing!😄 The whole booking process was quick and easy. Finding our way into the building was simple and efficient and the employees starting from the front desk security until into the MINT were all super kind and helpful. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The content and fun fact was very interesting and entertaining. The boutique was interesting and had a lot of cool items. The staffs in the boutique were super friendly and welcoming, they seemed like a group of individuals who are passionate about their job. Overall, it was nice to have an experience that was headache free, went smoothly and was entertaining.
