One of the most wonderful trails in Ottawa region, it’s a short walk but every season different. Even now shortly before winter the brown colours create wonderful atmosphere

Absolutely stunning. Beautiful way to be fully immersed in nature, not far from the city, and without needing to get changed for the hike! Little to no steep climbs through mossy grasses and wetlands, surrounded by gorgeous trees. All around takes about 25 min fast walking, but you'll want to take it slow and enjoy the sights, which easily doubled that.

Beautiful, easy, kid friendly, and stroller friendly hike all year round. Gorgeous in all seasons! Free parking and washrooms available. You can enjoy bird feeding there. Birds come sit and eat from your hand. It is a nice combination of water and trees etc. Beautiful to see. The loop is short and easy but nice. I love it!

I've always loved this place. Especially in the early morning. And regardless of the season. Although, this spring and fall are particularly lovely for all together different reasons. Try to bring a bag of bird seed to hand feed our feathered friends. With patients and quiet they will land right on your hand to feed. I don't believe that leashed or unleashed pets are allowed. Just so you know. Also, the country road, unpaved, has its fair share of potholes. Please drive slowly so as to not kick up a bunch of dust and watch out for all the local fauna that may suddenly dash across the road in front of you. Enjoy!

I love this place! Well cared for trail system, and the boardwalk is fantastic. Not quite sure why dogs aren't allowed, but regardless, one of our favorite hiking locations.

Love coming here for walks. Can be quite busy at times on the boardwalk though. Aside from that, very beautiful trails! Would recommend coming here if you are visiting the area or if you live here.

There's two parking spots, if you want to have a small hike before doing the actual boardwalk It's recommended parking at the first lot. The boardwalk itself is very well maintained and has some beautiful scenery of the bog and surrounding woodland area. If you want to go a nice long hike when you're done the bog boardwalk. Map yourself to Dewberry its only 3 minutes away and has many km of trails.

Great location for winter hikes! There are different types of trails (some easy, some trickier and some hard ones). Parking available. Washrooms at the entrance too. Seats and benches available too all around. You can enjoy feeding the friendly birds too in different spots of the the trail. I simply loved it!

The free Mer Bleue Bog conservation area is an great place to see an important part of the Canadian environment. This feature was created by glaciers that carved into rock making a depression where there is now a bog and a swamp. Bog's are unique because they hold low concentration of minerals and limited stagnant rain water. This water is absorbed by layers of slowly decomposing vegetation and moss making it bounce like a sponge when pressed. This creates a highly acidic ecosystem that has low levels of oxygen making it difficult for most species of plants to survive. All of these conditions create the perfect environment to preserve organic material that rests within its layers and it becomes a souce of carbon absorption as well as a fossil fuel. There is a nice board walk that takes you through the bog. This is a short easy walk and very family friendly. If you like my videos, photos or reviews don't be Bleu, just pull your hand out of the bog and give a thumbs up

Great scenary. Information signs are informative, but have a lot of sun fade. Great photo opportunities along the wooden path.

Very lovely hike! Even though we went in the winter, which means not able to see all the plants and animals, the information boards were super helpful! Learned so much geography in a very short trail! Would love to come back in the summer :) Easy hike, no uphills, just need to stay on the route so won’t disturb the environment :)

I’ve been waiting all summer to finally take my first visit to the Bog with my little family. It is just as beautiful, if not more, than I’ve heard. Ample parking, washrooms, sheltered picnic tables and the most scenic views. The boardwalk is the perfect distance to take a toddler for a walk and your baby for a stroll in the stroller. Dogs are not welcome.

This is a fantastic place to visit especially with young kids if you use the boardwalk through bog which is a 30 minute easy walk with stroller. Great scenery this fall too. Take along bird seed and birds will land on your hand.

I love boardwalks so this walk was really awesome. If you park in lot 1 there's a beautiful 3km hike to the bog and another 3km trail back. But beware, if it's rained recently it's really buggy on those trails but the bog seems relatively skeeter free. The bog only takes 20-30 minutes to walk around so park in lot 1 if you want more of a hike.

Mer Bleue is absolutely lovely for a walk on any nice day, but it is especially lovely in the fall when all the tree are changing colour. There are a few different connected trails to choose from, some shorter and easier, others a little longer with more uneven ground. The northern side of Trail 53 can get quite mucky if there's been rain recently, so bring an extra pair of shoes and socks!

Just a beautiful little spot, minutes away from the nation's capital. The trails were well marked (and COVID- safety protocoled) and the interpretive signage was very engaging. We will definitely be adding this to our hiking repertoire!

Such a cool place! Birds will come right up and eat out of your hands! Bring sunflower seeds or birdseed if you can get some! Beautiful trails as well, and they even have signs up for safety through Covid-19! Would absolutely recommend you go and check this out!

Me and my son try to use as many trails around Ottawa as we can, and this location is stunning all year around. A lot of people thinks the same though, so it can be fairly crowded, but it is very much worth a visit. Could have been longer, but easy enough to go multiple laps around.

Great walk in all seasons. Pushchair friendly. Always lots of wildlife to see. Still wildlife to be seen in winter, people cross country skiing and snow shoeing. Roads well maintenance and path easy to walk along.

We set out to do some adventure caches and enjoyed a long beautiful day with many great views and feeding birds along the way! Parking was a bit of a challenge but we persevered with parking along the road near the entrance. Would highly recommend this as a modest challenge but still very great to walk around the bog there was one part of the board lifted up near the mid way point which was the only obstacle faced during our walk.

Should be called Mer Bleue Bog / shill and reset. Don't go there without camera. Don't go there with loud people. The calmer you can walk, the more you can see animals.

Beautiful, and the boardwalks and wide road make it accessible. Be ready for a downhill portion of road though. A rare fen type ecosystem in this part of the province. Interesting to see fen change through successional stages to early forest.

Great Hiking trail - summer or winter. Relatively flat with a few inclines. Leisurely pace takes about 1hr from P21 to MerBleue Big (Boardwalk). Chickadees land gingerly on your hand to feed if you have some sunflower seeds.

Visit on Saturday 3 September, 2022. Lovely nature trail through the bog / wetlands. Ample parking, clean washrooms and covered picnic area. Trail well maintained although the board walk appears to need some maintenance in some few spots. Educational / information signage much appreciated.

We have been visiting the bog for decades, and this is the best time of year to be here. While the boardwalk makes a fine circular route of less than an hour, you will enjoy the long straight trail running along ridge road as well. It tracks farmland and marshes. This is one of the NCCs flattest trails.

  • 5/5 Nooria P. 3 years ago on Google
Really nice easy trail to walk during all seasons! You can see beavers in the summer building their dam. The road leading to the board walk if you want to drive all the way there is a bit icy so be cautious if you have a smaller older car like me!

Beautiful trail! Even more beautiful in the summer and fall with the colors! It’s nice to know a place where the habitat’s not been disturbed!

  • 5/5 CJ W. 3 years ago on Google
These are beautiful trails. There's a network of trails to be explored that range from easy (wide, even crushed gravel) to moderate (narrow, some steep inclines, uneven footing), and all of them contain breathtaking views of the bog and surrounding forest. The markers are easy to read and follow, but make sure to wear waterproof shoes if you're going in the fall!

Good amount of trails for running, walking and none of the trails are difficult, however, some parts that are less used or off main trails can be very wet and muddy at times.

  • 5/5 Catherine O. 3 years ago on Google
A wonderful family venue. The wooden trail is a one way boardwalk with lots to see (good for 2 people walking side by side ). We spotted turtles, fish, birds, squirrels & chipmunks but apparently frogs and beavers are also amongst the wildlife there. There isn't an abundance of parking but it is free and during the week you are sure to find a spot.

Beautiful all season spot to enjoy nature not far from the city. Boardwalk is accessible in summer for those using strollers, wheelchairs, etc. Great trails in the woods for snowshoeing and cross country skiing in winter.

Mer Bleue Bog is a great place to go if you want to get outside and explore nature! Tons of wildlife around, particularly very friendly chickadees! The trail is in and around a kilometer long and is flat, a good majority of it is boardwalk, very easy, great for anyone! Be sure to bring some bird seed and you'll have the chickadees eat from right out of your hand :) Bathrooms and free parking on site.

Honestly such a beautiful and educational area. As you did the little loop there were informational signs so you could read a bit about the area or the landscape. I noticed that they had a lot of benches and picnic tables around the area so this would be a perfect place to bring your family to have a little picnic or barbecue once the pandemic has calmed down. Also if you bring some bird feed or seeds you can definitely feed the chickadees. I didn't even have any seeds and they still landed on my hand for me to take a picture. All in all a nice little day trip.

The boardwalk is easy and offers great views, especially during the fall, when the colours give it a surreal, Mars-like feel. As the main trail usually quite busy, it's worth checking out the other paths in the area, like the winter trail.

Walked just before dusk. Quite a few cars in the parking lot but didn't run into a lot of people on the trail. The trail was icy in spots.

Nice place for the nature but WAY too many people go to it these days. Especially on the weekends. Can't even find parking and people are shoulder to shoulder. How busy it is kinda ruins it these days. Used to be a lot less busy than it is now.

A staple of the NCC Greenbelt system, Mer Bleue Bog remains a highly accessible example of biodiversity. Wildlife is visible most days, but is definitely showing stresses from consistent traffic. Like many such parks, the coronavirus pandemic has reduced the visitors which has helped recovery. Avian species are fairly well represented. Beavers, turtles, and an occasional muskrat can be seen.

Great place to spend a day in the middle of an interesting geological spot. A short boardwalk trail takes you through the wonderful flora of the bog. Multiple signs give insight into the history of the place. There are a few more trails that can be completed if someone's looking for a longer trail. Would love to see it in the Fall and Winter too 😃

This is a really nice, easy and scenic trail that takes you through the peatland. Some of the landscape is pretty darn beautiful. I hope you like Tamarack and Birch trees! The trail is stroller and kid friendly. Sure to the sensitive nature of the wetlands you must remain on the trail at all times. My biggest issue was just how crowded the trail was. We often just let people go through so we could stroll along and enjoy nature.
