My mother came here for heart issues and she had to wait 6+ hours. When she had gone there for the same issue in previous years, they saw her right away she got appropriate care and fixed her condition. This time was a little different because she had chest pains alongside the heart issue and they made her wait longer than ever— huh? After all that- she did not even see a cardiologist! She saw a resident! Who just told her to go home and come back if things got worse. Nothing was done to fix anything. I feel horrible writing a bad review because I care deeply about our doctors and nurses because I’m sure they’re stretched thin— however— what is happening in that hospital right now with the protocols and wait times is so disturbing. I am genuinely scared of needing medical care! I don’t even recognize our health care system anymore!! It is unacceptable.

Horrible care. They are constantly sued by patients. Horrible hypocrite staff (specifically ER cleaning and ER reception). I was kicked out of the hospital for falling asleep without a mask on while in my own bed in ER. We had been waiting for over 15 hours to see a doctor… woke up at 7am (2 hours of sleep). My mask must’ve fallen off. The cleaning lady yelled at me and harassed me because she saw me without my mask on. I was polite enough to put it back on. An hour later, when I went to use the bathroom, the same cleaning lady, receptionist and a nurse were huddled around a cellphone without a mask. I told the cleaning lady that I did not appreciate her yelling at me. Within few minutes of me getting back to my bed, security showed up to kick me out of the hospital. They claimed a bunch of lies that they were fed by cleaning and reception staff. They claimed that I harassed staff and patients, I refused to wear a mask “many” times, aggressive towards staff, refusing to cooperate and rude. When I asked to speak to a manager, they said that the manager doesn’t want to speak with me and that she had heard enough from her staff (all the lies above). I had no choice but to leave in peace and send a compliant to their general email. I got a generic response with no feedback. This was not my only encounter with rude staff at this hospital. The staff at this hospital do not care about your well being and seem to be more focused on their stats. They don’t even deserve 1/5 star.

Hello, I wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Ottawa Hospital for their exceptional care during my recent visit. Your kindness and professionalism were truly remarkable. My experience was outstanding from start to finish. Despite living in Gatineau, I decided to visit Ottawa Hospital due to excessive wait times at Hull Hospital. As soon as I entered the emergency room, a friendly lady guided me and quickly took my initial information. Within minutes, another caring individual assessed my condition, checking my vitals and asking about my symptoms. They even offered medication for my fever, which I gladly accepted. Afterward, I moved to another area, where my details were efficiently collected by another compassionate team member. Despite the added complexity of my non-citizen status and being a Quebec student without a RAMQ card, the process was handled smoothly. In under an hour, I met with Dr. Warren James, who was just as kind and professional. He diagnosed my condition and recommended further steps, including blood tests and medication. The excellent care continued with dear sweeeeet Shelby, who conducted my blood tests and ensured my condition was stable. I left with clear instructions on what to do next. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The professionalism and compassion of your team were evident at every step. If I were to offer one suggestion, it would be about the parking costs, which, to be honest, are a bit on the higher side. Half an hour for 4.50$ and full day 15$. Nonetheless, this is a small matter compared to the exceptional care I received. Thank you for everything. Your team truly excels in the field of medicine, and I am deeply appreciative.

i went to the ER a few months before covid started with severe strep (for the 20th time in my life). the 9hr wait wasnt shocking, but being quite literally forgotten about by the dr in a bed for 4 more hours WAS shocking. nurses came to put someone new in the bed i was in, realized no one had actually given me the relief meds or prescriptions that had been ordered for me, and the dr had processed my leave before actually treating me. id asked for a referral to a surgeon upstairs so i could get my tonsils removed bc ive not only had strep enough times to cause an antibiotic allergy, but ive also had scarlet fever, and ive been asking for years for a surgeon to end this constant cycle. the dr laughed in my face and walked off saying he was getting the meds (which of course didnt happen). no apology was offered by any staff member, and they blamed me for not complaining about being forgotten about sooner, as if its a patient’s responsibility to remind medical staff to do their job. its been over 2 years, and even though i have a chronic illness that is currently risking my life and in need of immediate and emergent medical intervention, i would still rather wait and hope a referral to a specialist goes through than i would have to sit through another +12hrs of wasted time where i have to forcefully advocate for my right to healthcare not just to be taken seriously, but to be treated at all.

When I went I spent over nine hours in the waiting room before being moved to the second waiting room, and having my iv hooked to a coat hook until my blood was running down the line and other patients had to get a nurse. Now my spouse has been waiting over nine hours without any sort of care. What type of emergency service is this? Do you think people who are really suffering can sit on your dirty plastic chairs for over nine hours? When I went people were passing out in the bathrooms and being wheeled out from waiting so long with no care. A lady next to me in a bed, had to beg multiple nurses multiple times before anyone brought her a bed pan they all said they would do it and never came back to her. Disgusting.

Running from hospital to hospital, Mom and I experienced Civic, Queensway now General. Emergency department General is the best, Queensway’s nurse teams are amazing. Ottawa hospital I had a bad experience with only one nurse ( standby room on the back of emergency care before transferred to the six floor ) made a night was so sad and unbearable. In Hospital we should always experience compassion and care, condescending tone and lack of professionalism & compassion from a nurse I was sad to experience. Luckily we moved on and everybody are all so professional. A good hospital indeed. But hope you never need to visit :)

Approximately 1 week ago I was taken to the Ottawa General, by ambulance, due to respiratory/cardiac issues. I am a bone cancer survivor, I have an internal prosthesis, and in 2020 my prosthesis went into sepsis. I am on several medications and had been experiencing a number of issues prior to that specific night. I was careful in providing all these details to both the paramedics and hospital staff. When I was finally seen by a doctor, 8-9 hours later, I was absolutely exhausted. My blood work and X-rays had come back “normal” and I burst into tears of both relief and frustration. I was happy to be okay but frustrated that we had no answers. The doctor, a young, petite woman, didn’t understand why I was emotional. I was quick to explain that I was frustrated with a lack of answers and felt embarrassed. I’ve always been a huge advocate for my overall health and I didn’t want it to seem as if I’d created issues where there weren’t any. The doctor looked me in the eyes and said “why are you crying? Are you safe at home? Are you being abused?” I was completely caught off guard. My long-term boyfriend had been up for almost 27 hours straight in order to ensure I was safe and cared for. He had left the room in order to give the doctor and I privacy. I immediately replied with an YES IM SAFE AND ABSOLUTELY NOT. Then, as if things weren’t already awkward, she asked if I was seeking psychological help. That was the final straw. I’m a survivor, I’ve fought for my life in countless different ways and always put my mental health front and centre. I asked her to give me the discharge paperwork so I could go elsewhere. I later found out that I was dealing with some underlying health issues, thanks to my family doctor. I understand that emergency rooms are full and the hospitals are understaffed but that’s no excuse. I shouldn’t be leaving the hospital questioning myself and regretting having reached out for help in the first place.

They denied the mother of my fiance the ability to comfort her daughter in her time of need. Because of a FEVER! Getting a fever during labour is unheard of to these diversity hire doctors, it must be COVID! They proceed to tell me I would be required to get a test before my fiance and I could see my son after birth. A test that takes up to 24 HOURS!

Went to the hospital with my brother for some chest pain. At first the waiting room seemed pretty empty and I was sure that the wait would be short. He went through triage and got an ECG within the first hour. When we got put into a room we waited there for 3 hours as nurses and doctors strolled by acting like we were invisible. And the cherry on top of that. What ever they clean the beds with has left huge bleach marks on my brothers pants and sweater. I understand that there is a shortage in staff right now but, this is ridiculous. Get it together.

I went to the emergency room this morning because I was feeling s*icidal and felt unsafe at my house. I waited 5 hours for a doctor to tell me they can't do anything to help me and that I should "pick up a hobby". I specifically said I didn't feel safe going home and was scared I might harm myself and they sent me home anyways. Didn't even give me a prescription for meds. How could you do that to someone? I'm absolutely appalled.

If I could put a negative review, I definitely would! This is a terrible place, especially if you come in the evening. I came with swelling of the larynx - I could not swallow and my nose was completely blocked, I was breathing with difficulty. I had a terrible headache! I came at eight in the evening, and still here!!!! Nurses are very arrogant and unresponsive!!! In general, how could a person with such problems put me on the longest waiting list???!!!! Disgusting staff, absolutely unprofessional!!! Why do they even work there if they don't know how to help the patient??????

Brought my husband to emergency. Staff wouldn't let me go with him in the room. He's high anxiety and low anger management. When I expressed my concerns, the ER nurse said its a small room and not enough space for an extra person. Meanwhile, looking around the waiting room... there's MOLD on the ceiling from a leak spot. Cleaning staff has walked by me 10 times and not once have they CLEANED anything! Bottles on the floor. Tissue on the floor. Dirt build up in the bathroom is atrocious!! No wonder people are getting sick when they come in for care! How can you take care of patients if you can't even guarantee their safety in here from all the germs floating around and the GRIM all over!? 100% disgusting! Ottawa... Capital of Canada... shame on all staff at the general! Cleaners should be FIRED!

Waited 12 hours for a doctor, 8pm-8am, throughout the entire 12 hours nobody came to check on me, not even offer me a blanket during the overnight stay. I overheard many other patients with the same complaints, being left alone by themselves for prolonged periods of time. There was an odd brown staining underneath the bed, wasn't too sure if it was rust or dry blood, either way it was not an appropriate habitable sterile environment. Overall lacks professionalism, I recommend the civic hospital much more.

The staff, ER and surgical teams did an Excellent job of taking care of my dad after an emergency condition landed him in the ER. The ER doctors and nurses took Amazing care of him while waiting for blood results and imaging. They did not rush at all and took their time to make sure that they have a full picture before proceeding with the surgery that he needed. The surgical team headed by Dr. Martel and the nurses in the post-surgical recovery unit where he spent the night where nothing less than EXTRAORDINARY in their care & support. They always made sure dad was well- informed, supported and taken care of during his stay. It made having a surgical procedure during these unprecedented times of COVID-19 much easier & we really appreciate the excellent communication of the team - keeping our family well-abreast of everything. A special shout out to nurse Snelgrove & all the nurses in the post surgical recovery unit & ER departments. Our family is forever grateful for your dedication & great care - always provided with a smile. Your patients are lucky to have you.

This review is based on my second visit to the ER in 3 days. I went because of severe complications with my masectomy that was done on July 21st. My 1st visit... I discharged myself because my doctor was not listening to what I was saying. I needed pain management... What I was receiving was not helping. I began to feel as though I was being treated as a PILL SEEKER. I went home was forced to outsource stronger dilated... Fixed me right up. My 2nd visit was much more serious... I ended upbeing admitted for 5 days. There was no bed available... I really needed to lay flat....but I was very unlucky and was assigned the most CANTANKEROUS nurse I have ever come across... JESSICA. I was kicked out my bed and made to sleep in Jerry chair which was beyond painful and awful... Luckily I had a direct line of site of Jessica for most of her shift. This girl may be qualified to be a nurse but should not be employed as a nurse. Jessica loves to gossip, stopping other working nurses to do so.... Jessica is the kind of girl that loves to be mean , short tempered, and lazy. Jessica exudes negativity... Makes it very known to every patient she deals with. I watched and I listened for hours. Her negativity made me very uneasy... Not to the mention the lack of care I received from her.... I NEVER received the food tray I was told was coming.... My surgical team undressed my massive wound and instructed her to repack and dress my very large open wound. I fell asleep... Woke up completely exposed to all that walked by... It had been 4 hours. Thankfully there was a shift change ... My new nurse STEPH was amazing.... Absolutely amazing... She did an amazing job cleaning, packing, and dressing my wound... Got my pain managed... And was so very kind. Nobody in emergency should have to deal with Jessica or anyone like her... I was in there due to a massive complication with my masectomy which was performed because of a 12cm tumour... I have Cancer in 3 other places... I already have a lot on my plate. In emergency most of us are very scared, I know I was very scared, and in pain.... put in more pain because of Jessica. I can tell she likes the power of having that control. I spent most of my childhood living in CHEO... I know nurses... I know good ones and bad ones... I have never come across a sadistic nurse like Jessica. Rude, short with every single patient she communicated with. This girl, who is certainly not a woman... Because a woman would never treat another woman like me the way she did... Is a lawsuit waiting to happen.... I truly hope you spare future patients from JESSICA'S need to make people's worst day more miserable, more uncomfortable, and very much neglected and feel like a burden. Unbelievable... This is not her first complaint. That girl to work behind a desk somewhere. Jessica should not be interacting with people.

Honestly some of the worst service ever received. The lady at the front desk of emergency was constantly on her phone and it seemed like I was bugging her everytime I asked for a puke bag. Then was brought to the back where you see doctors and again I had to wait until the folks at the front desk got off their phone to acknowledge I was there.. your job isn’t your phone, wait until your breaks. Also what is with the constant attitude especially when none is given in the first. Having a loved one in the hospital is hard enough, what’s harder is receiving this to go on top of it. Such a bitter taste left.

I went here with an emergency letter from my doctor for an MRI. The triage nurse laughed. I was told a 4 hour wait that ended up being 9 hours. I was not even seen by a doctor before I left untreated. There's no cleaning here and people coughing everywhere. STAY HOME. Only go here if you want COVID-19 and higher risk of dying with no care. Better off driving 2 hours to a better hospital.

I recently delivered my baby at this hospital. I couldn’t speak more highly of the maternity/ delivery/ post delivery care. The team were very supportive throughout my stay, professional, knowledgeable and caring towards me and my baby which meant a lot being a first time mum. I am tourist and ended up delivering via c- section early while my husband was overseas. They very kindly FaceTimed my husband throughout the procedure and included him in the whole process which is something I will be forever grateful for. I would have no hesitation to deliver here or recommend this hospital to deliver a baby.

I had a wonderful experience here. It was my first time there. I presented with atrial flutter with my heart rate in the 150's. I told them I have a history of this and that shocking me out of this rhythm is the only solution. I bypassed the waiting room completely after they saw my vital signs and whisked me into the Resuscitation Bay. I spoke with the doctor assuring him that this is my typical presentation when I'm in atrial flutter. He was in agreement with me about the course of action and started putting a plan in place. It's never nice to be in hospital but this was the most seemless ER visit I've ever had. The doctors were great, nurse's were 100%. Would NEVER hesitate to go back when problems arise.

The WORST HOSPITAL EVER. Incompetent doctors, terrible at diagnosis and treatment. Dirty rooms. Extremely slow service. Negligent personnel. When you get out of the hospital, your state is worse than the day you got in. There are no words to describe the discrimination the doctors at this hospital have against older people. Despite their total incompetence, they have absolutely no conscience nor remorse. Their plan is to totally neglect the patient if he/she is above a certain age. It is way easier to die at home than to go to the Ottawa General Hospital.

Never ever I have experienced or witnessed such unprofessional and uncaring behaviour from medical staff. I had a bleeding in my eye that needed treatment and i had with me my adult daughter who drove me as my eyesight was impaired. We went into room yesterday at 5:45 until we finally left not seen by anyone, at 2 am. Numerous times we asked staff were we were in the line and told by 2 different doctors we were 3rd then 5th then third, but don’t know when we’ll be seen. At 12:30 am they put us at the room next door, which looked like storage and from then, we were completely ignored. I will never seek again medical attention in that place. No compassion and no empathy was displayed by any doctors. I am giving 2 stars only because the triage nurse was nice as well as admitting staff who were really helpful.

The 8 hour wait wasn't even the bad part. The receptionists/RNs who were working overnight Nov 4-5 showed a complete lack of sympathy towards the waiting patients. Their terrible attitude and inability to genuinely care about patients was completely unacceptable. If you have no patience or general sympathy for others I have no idea what you're doing working in a hospital. A severe anxiety attack should never be called "a tantrum", especially within earshot of the person suffering. The cleaning lady gave more reassurance than they did, and that's not even her job.

Worst ER and the staff are rude and have no sense of compassion. I brought a friend in, he was having hard time breathing. And numbness in his head and limbs, they didn’t seem to be phased by his distress. He was asked to put on a mask but he wasn’t able to breath! One of the triage nursed yelled at him. So I confronted her and she told “Not to get her started”. A couple of patients in the ER noticed how much he was not able to breath and was asking the triage nurses for help. The second triage nurse rudely said “I know what he doing”.... I was livid! I said if if something happens to him you’re to be blamed and they called security on me!

I had to go in to the ER last night after I was directed by Telehouse Ontario. I was not allowed to have my husband with me and that lead to me throughout my experience feeling scared and isolated. Which also did not allow me to be fully in control of what I should be asking to have myself feel normal again. I walked in with a fever and difficulty to breathe. I got an ECG/EKG, pulses, temperature and oxygen levels checked. I however entered with them considering me a covid case but they did not do a PCR test or a CT scan which should be the norm. I ended up with an allergic reaction from the booster shot. I have to say the ER rooms were not clean and it was written that I should ring a bell incase I needed a nurse (after waiting over 2-3 hours in total) as soon as I walked out of my room, I was instructed to go back in and switch off the light and sleep as I have a long time until I will be seen from a doctor. I had an anxiety attack from her lack of empathy and treating me like I don’t follow orders while there wasn’t a bell in the first place thats clear to click on. And knowing I will stay more than the hours I already spent. I decided to speak with a nurse and she helped calm me down but I insisted they take off my needle in my arm for me to leave. There was a doctor that heard me and decided to treat me next. He did and I left.

I called an ambulance because I was having very intense chest pains and no control over my breathing. By the time the paramedics arrived I was on the floor with visible head trauma (i had a heavy fall and hit my head). I was showing very clear signs of concussion and was so dizzy I couldn't keep my eyes open and had slurred speech. I was constantly complaining about lights and sounds. I retraumatized an existing lower back injury during my fall. I was clearly unable to walk, or get in and out of seated positions on my own. I spent 12 hours in the hospital, nobody even looked at my head or back. I just saw a mental health professional about anxiety. The male receptionist yelled at me while in a delirious concussed state because I asked him how the zone system worked and what the wait time for me is. I never asked to jump ahead of anyone and was just asking simple questions, like the television said I should. He didn't answer my question so I asked him again, to which he got out of his chair, grabbed my wheelchair and started yelling "that's enough buddy, everyone is waiting just like you. There are rules and you have to follow them, you aren't special." I told him he is rude and not fit to be a receptionist and had another panic attack right in front of him in the middle of the wait room where a bunch of people rushed to me and got me a bed. Receptionists shouldn't be antagonizing patients and causing a crisis. I am still dizzy while writing this after waking up the next day at home.

Over the past few weeks, I underwent a pacemaker implantation procedure. During my hospitalization, I experienced exceptional care from the nurses and doctors, whose dedication and expertise were truly remarkable. One nurse, Michelle, stood out as an exemplary caregiver, displaying unwavering patience and kindness. She took the time to attentively listen to my concerns and understand my condition. Throughout the post-surgery recovery period, Michelle's support and assistance proved invaluable, helping my healing process significantly. My gratitude toward her is immeasurable. I must extend my appreciation to the entire medical team, as they functioned seamlessly as a well-coordinated unit, ensuring I received optimal care. The sense of assurance and confidence I received from being under their care was deeply comforting during this challenging period. While my hospital stay was not without its difficulties, I am sincerely thankful for the compassion and dedication displayed by these healthcare professionals. Their contributions underscore the importance of benevolent individuals in our society, and I feel truly fortunate to have had such an exceptional team aiding me during my recovery.

Our Health Care is brutal. Recently dealt with a situation at the Ottawa General involving my 91 year old Mother In-Law who is diabetic, poor eye sight and extremely hard of hearing. The Memory care retirement home she is at which is another story of disappointment sent her back to the hospital third time since Christmas Eve because she fell again most likely due to the fact that she's diabetic and hasn't had any food due to the situation and the retirement home has a no pickup policy when they fall. They just call the Paramedics and off to the hospital. Throughout this ordeal dealing with the Stress and Frustration. What finally took the cake was when the General called at 1 in the morning to tell us there is nothing wrong and they had to send her back to the Retirement Home and through out that conversation with the nurse my wife mentioned that she needs food because she is diabetic. The nurses response was.. "Oh I didn't know she was a Diabetic" This in unbelievable and the amount of incompetence in our health care system is truly UNACCEPTABLE !!!!!! How can you not know your current patient is diabetic. She had been to the QCH, Civic and now the General all that information is supposed to be in the system. DO YOUR JOB !!!!!

For a delivery of a first baby it was a new experience. Unfortunately that experience was marred by the lack of information and empathy provided by some of the staff at this location. Don’t get me wrong there were some fantastic people that helped us and we thanked them but it was shocking to see the unprofessionalism of some doctors and nurses and not looking at medical records before asking if we wanted something administered. Not mentioning names but do your research before hand so you are informed and ready to make decisions that are good for YOU. The floor in the delivery room should not be sticky and there needs to be a better effort done for cleaning. Stay healthy and take care of yourself so you never have to end up here. I thank all the front line workers who are burnt out and still making a great effort.

Had they been honest with us from the beginning, and told us that my husband's condition was terminal, we would have made different choices, and lived his last days the way he would have wanted. Instead, they implied that radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy would prolong his life. They prescribed Decadron (one of the strongest steroids out there and is known to cause infections) like they were handing him a bag of M & Ms. The only doctors who were honest with us were the ICU doctors who said his organs were so severely damaged, no type of therapy would have saved him. I would like to thank the ICU day nurse for being compassionate, and for her hard work, and for offering a hug when I wanted only to crumble to the floor. I don't hold the same sentiment for a certain female doctor in the cancer center who lied to us, and withheld life-altering information. You didn't even have the courage and professional integrity to tell us what kind of cancer it was. We learned it ourselves by using MyChart. However, I have enough respect for you that I won't name you here. If you happen to be reading this, I'm sure you remember us. Avon is a hard name to forget. To my beloved husband who was brave until the last hour, and who makes me proud each and every day: I love you honey, and always will 888.

My sister is there as I write this. She had a mastectomy almost two years ago. Today the Cancer Clonic sent her to the ER because they were worried that she has cellulitis and a blood clot. It is now almost 8 hrs since she got there. She can not walk because she does not have her wheel chair or walker. Waited over 45 minutes for help to go to the washroom. They now have put her alone in the hall in a big chair and left her. She needs her regular medication and no one even comes around to see how she is doing. No compassion or sympathy at all. Impossible to reach someone for help.

Had surgery last week with Dr. Fady Balaa. The surgery went great, but the incredible nurse I had in post-op is what inspired me to write this review. Her name was Aimee, she is the most kind and caring nurse and she made my otherwise scary experience as wonderful as it could be.

How does a hospital run out of food for their patients ? If there's a planned maintenance in the kitchen , there should be something in place to make sure that ALL the patients are properly fed . On October 27th , patients from the 4th floor up weren't properly fed . Given vending machine muffins & sandwiches for meals . There are many people with special diets that didn't have their needs met . With everything going on , things like this should NEVER happen !!! What bothers me the most are the families that have no idea that this has happened to their loved ones & worried for those that don't have families to check up on them. If you have family in the General , PLEASE check up on them OFTEN !!!

Brought my father into this ER last night; the wait was only two hours, and the doctor we saw was very intelligent and caring. He immediately knew something was not right with him, ordered the correct tests, and diagnosed the issue effectively (adrenal tumours [turned out to be esophageal cancer but he got the ball rolling]). This was a great relief as he had tried; the Civic campus recently and was told to go home and take Aleve; and the Hull hospital where they were going to make him wait over a month for a CT scan, and gastroscopy in a month but he couldn’t eat, and also kept prescribing irrelevant medications. I don't know why other places were not able to even diagnose this... But this doctor at the General was intelligent and very caring (Even at 3:00am). The nurse at triage had a terrible attitude problem however.

I went to The Ottawa Hospital General Campus emergency to check a strong pain in my chest, as I have a heart condition. The receptionist, nurses, technicians and doctors all had the most welcoming attitude, straight forward medical services, and a very kind and human communication towards me. I cannot be but grateful for the treatment I received, besides the fact that the place was overflowed. As the crisis on the health system increases due to financial and policy issues, my admiration for the human condition of the medical personal increases everyday. Thank you very much indeed and God bless you. I hope politicians will manage sooner than later to improve your salaries and overall working conditions.

Update: All the nurses and staff and medics have been amazing and very kind to me. I'm extremely appreciative as this has been one of the most difficult moments of my life. Thank you. Initial post: This city needs another public hospital, and additional private hospitals to spread the urgent care load. 8 hours wait time while I'm slowly bleeding is extreme bad. This is very disappointing considering Canada is supposed to have good health care...

When you’re afraid for the life of someone you love, take them here! Amazing, compassionate care from everyone - ER staff, nurses and doctors in every department, dietary staff, porters and the volunteers who direct you to where you need to be. Even though everyone is run off their feet due to the high demand of their services, each and every person we dealt with greeted us warmly with a smile and compassion. I knew he was in the best of hands! Each dept worked collaboratively to ensure the best course of treatment. From myself, Jeremy and our families - THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts! You are all amazing!!!

Horrible experience. I’m high risk and my mfm recommendation was a c section at 37 weeks. I explained that I have to drive 5 hours and need notice. They said they would call early but they didn’t so by time I got there they monitored me for 20 min, then waited 3 hours to come tell me they are cancelling the induction. Rude administration and dr was not pleasant. The nurse was at least nice.

I have met a very good doctor last night at this hospital. Dr. Vivian. She was very professional and sincere. She ordered all tests needed to eliminate all possible root causes. She listened to me meticulously. Then, she informed what steps should be followed further down the road. I can say she is the first real doctor in Ottawa for me. Thank you so much Dr. Vivian. For me, missing part in the health system here, there is no connection and relationship among the healtcare facilities and the doctors. Also, to see a specialist here is a dream/impossible. If you see one, if they found no issue, they are not referring to any related/possible specialist. You have to start to process again. Just I want yo give a small example, in my home country, you can see the specialist directly like family doctor at the same day or in a few days. Here is very hard. All doctors are busy but nobody is happy. We can utilize the family doctors in the emergency departments according to a roster for the city to reduce the workload in the hospital. They can look at many patients who are not in critical condition. Why do we have a private place for the specialists? it is hard to understand. They can see their patients in the hospital. Too many doctors in the business areas, they can use a building which is not used/rarely used by government or province. Too many things to say...

Nurses were great, doctor was nice but hospital security used excessive force and nearly broke my wrist/arm WHILE in restraints. Ridiculous and I definitely won’t give up until everyone knows what type of people the guards are and how they treat mental health. Not only do they physically attack you but they make fun of you, that’s outrageous and should never happen!

The Ottawa General Hospital Campus is located on 501 Smyth road. This is a bilingual teaching hospital in association with the University of Ottawa. If your admitted to the hospital you will likely be seen by the teaching physician and some intern students often during the morning rounds. It was fun being the subject of a class and hearing about your particular case. I think the staff, doctors and nurses are ok, but not anywhere near as attentive to patient needs as those in the Civic and the Heart Institute. Each of the two times I have been admitted to the General, I have had negative experiences in my care. So, if I have a choice of going to a hospital I strongly prefer the Civic on Carling Ave.

Absolutely scarring the way hospital staff handled and treated sick and disabled people in the middle of a pandemic. I was preffered there by 3 different clinics as I dont have a family doctor, and they referred me away like a hot potatoe to a service, that has been closed for months due to covid and no schedule of reopening and I'm told to go BACK to that (not even a doctor would see me a snotty student!) ER. Utterly disgusting it took almost 24hrs to get in in the first place and now after leaving empty handed I'm ordered back? Which closed area will they send me next instead of doing their jobs I wonder. I do not have a family doctor as I moved here from AB, have had worse service here than any other city in the country I've lived in.

inefficient and narrow minded they are nice and friendly but that counts for nothing if they can't actually help you. the two times i have been there, felt like a waste of money. they never ever find what's wrong with you. they are too narrow minded and even after they realize that it not the simply cases, they don't investigate more and the you find yourself in an ambulance like me and find out that your situation progressed even more because it went unattended. my most recent visit, they check acting like it was covid even thought the test and the x rays said it wasn't, take note that i have a long history of respiratory problems, like brooo... covid isn't the only thing that kills. they will not listen, they will just send you home with nothing. complete waste of money that i do not have. if they are seeing this, please go and do a proper training and evaluation of your staff, smiles don't stop the pain. as i am speaking i am looking for another hospital to go, they didn't even test me for any other virus or bacteria and my situation was dyer. i was literally coughing and sneezing blood and i cam to them around 1 am but i got no treatment at all, just unnecessary covid tests. even after they confirmed it wasn't covid, they didn't even try to get to the bottom of things. and this is not the first time so its not a fluke. they are narrow minded and ineffective

I recently went in for a Laparoscopic Hysterectomy procedure with Dr Sinasac. From the moment I checked in, from reception to discharge, I received wonderful, caring and compassionate attention from all staff. In particular Sam a nurse in day surgery. No matter how busy he was he always found time give me that extra care. And to Dr Sinasac who stayed after a long day to ensure my surgery was completed. It is heart warming to have experienced all of these great professionals, we are very lucky to have them.

They made me wait for 5hrs. and turned me away from emergency room after the wait time was 3hrs30mins. I asked for an explanation for why they made me wait so long and the nurse would not give me a straight forward answer. The nurse also had, what was supposed to be a private/personal conversation with me in the middle of the floor even after I insisted that she speak to me in private. She was repeating very loudly things written in my patient files as well as things I told the nurse in triage. (This is illegal practice) The nurses themselves are very condescending. They DO NOT know respect. I will NEVER come here again. Try Montfort, it is cleaner, brighter, and give a better patient experience

I broke three bones in my right ankle while out for a walk on Friday. The ambulance took me to the Ottawa General Hospital. After doing a CT scan, they admitted me that night and did my surgery on Saturday morning. I was discharged on Sunday - they weren't forcing me out quickly, but I was eager to get home. There were some issues, especially with people forgetting to order some of my normal medications, but most people were very sympathetic and nice to me. I couldn't walk or even move on the first day. Even outside of meal times, they gave me food when I needed it, helped me to the bathroom regularly, and were always willing to give me something for pain. They respected my decisions and needs. When physio saw how unstable my balance was on Sunday, but understood that I had to go home to contact work and get some of my medications, they offered home care physio to teach me how to do stairs better. I got a call from them the day I got home and am waiting for them to schedule an appointment for me. Some of my previous experiences in emergency rooms weren't great, and I was terrified when I found out I would have to stay in the hospital for a few days. I was also worried about how COVID could affect my care, and although it did cause some inconveniences, most of the nurses and care staff tried to keep me comfortable. The staff were nicer than I expected.

The nursing and medical staff are very nice. Though, the birthing unit had a racist receptionist who explicitly denied the ministry of health and service ontario policy to grant our newborn her rightful health coverage because the parents are not Canadian. The racist white receptionist started screaming "She (the baby girl) is not Canadian, None of you are. This is a privilege for Canadians only, why do you even need it , oh I know you just want the citizenship ...etc" just another racist assumption to expose her deplorable motivation. Her lying and misuse of her authority endangering the health of a -Canadian- newborn was just disgusting enough to ruin the special day of welcoming our baby daughter.

Took my mom in to drop off a sample at the lab. We went to register and was told we didn't need to and we could just walk over to the lab and hand them the sample. So we went to the lab and had a lab tech yell at my disabled mother and go out into the waiting room with her stool sample and wave it around yelling at the woman in charge of registering people. She came back and proceeded to yell at my mom again while shoving the sample into her face telling her she's supposed to register. We tried to tell her multiple times that we tried too but she wouldn't listen. My mom got upset and said this was embarrassing and the woman said "you can leave now" we tried to file a complaint but never heard from anyone. The hospital has signs everywhere about respecting people yet the staff can't even do that.

I was rushed by ambulance to the Ottawa General campus in severe pain from a kidney stone about 5 weeks ago. Having never before needing urgent medical care I was expecting to be in the horror movie that is Canadian medical care, and told to wait in a wheelchair in the main waiting area which was packed ( I was given morphine in the ambulance) But to my surprise my treatment progressed rapidly. I was in the ER in 40 mins and seen by a doctor 10 minutes later who immediately ordered diagnostic images. I then waited for about an hour for the scan and another 1.5 hours for result and follow up by the doctor. He prescribed appropriate meds, said the results will be sent to my family doctor and provided instructions on what triggers to watch for and rush back to emergency (which I didn’t have to) I found the doctor to be courteous, attentive and the nurses efficient. From ambulance to discharge I was out in about 5 hours!!

Patient assessment and immediate care/treatment: VERY GOOD Patient ongoing care during hospitalization: GOOD Communication to family/caregivers: GOOD Communication between doctor/nurse/case manager and family/caregivers on discharge and after care protocol: TERRIBLE There needs to be more communication on how/when a patient can be discharged with better communication with the family members and case managers. I know they are short staffed...but everyone in every industry is stressed and short staffed these days...that's life!

The care of the staff was very good. However, surgery was delayed due to instruments not properly being sterilized. Dr. had to walk over to CHEO to get the instruments. Good response in recovery room when I called to check on my daughter’s recovery after surgery. The hospital hallways are cluttered with linen shelves, chairs, stretchers, etc. Someone needs to go through and reorganize their space. Paint is chipping off of doors and walls and the rooms need a deep cleaning.

MRI staff seem to be not enjoying themselves as well as inconsiderate. The lady behind the desk told me they where very busy when I arrived 5 minutes into my appointment time. Asked why I was late. I mentioned its 5:30 AM and I had work the day before.. Tried calling in but of course they're lines didn't open officially till 8. This seemed to pester her and she then made a very quick phone call to the doctor. Not much was said about my reasonings however I don't think she really cared in the first place. This is a waste of 30 KMS of gas to get here and the same amount to get back. Why not have your lines open when your actually on site?

Never recommended going here ever nurses are to busy sitting behind the desk watching tiktok. Pathetic then people got into a fight and they get stitches before even a doctor comes to see my wife to do any type of test or blood work they definitely need a manager here to delegate to the staff and doctors who to see first and emergency should be first come first serve.

The vast majority of the so called “medical professionals” working within the Ottawa General should not have the privilege of calling themselves as such. There are absolutely a few staff within the emergency department that are kind and patient however not only myself, but my partner and many other patients in need were met with incredibly blunt, passive aggressive and simply just rude attitude from those at the front desk and triage. When people come in for health care, they should NOT be made to feel like a burden ever nor do they deserve to be treated with disrespect. I also find it baffling to say the least how long wait times are. Waiting ten hours simply to see a doctor is undoable and unacceptable. The majority of people seeking medical assistance are in great amounts of pain but we are expected to sit with that pain for a good portion of the day? Honestly absurd and an absolute joke to health care.

I have NEVER had the most caring experience of my life in this hospital. My nurse was steph moore (sorry if I did not spell correctly) was amazing. She went above and beyond for her patients and me being one of them. She didn’t treat me like just an ordinary patient. She showed concern and absolute care in ways I haven’t seen. She always checked in to ensure I was doing okay and made me feel extremely safe. She doesn’t treat you like you’re just an ordinary patient. She made me feel valued and safe and I felt my needs were met. I am not going to forget her, as she has made my experience memorable. She was extremely professional and this needs to be out for the world to see because there are only negative feedback about nurses you see here these days, with what patients complain about and not positive things like how great they are and what they made us feel in that moment. I know there are great nurses out there but this one really stood out. Somebody please give this woman some credit because she is an extremely valuable employee in that hospital. Someone needs to give this woman a raise! Thank you steph for making my experience at the Ottawa General hospital feel like a one of a kind moment. You are amazing!

This isn't the forum in which people should be filing complaints against medical practitioners. There is no medical board of authority that is going to be reading Google reviews. The staff in the mat ward are awesome and are taking such good care of my wife. The elevators are semi-broken trash. Don't try to stop the doors from closing with your arm or it may leave you an amputee. The silver lining to this hypothetical situation is that you're already at the hospital anyways.

Do not use their emergency department: it is stuffed by incompetent interns. I was treated like an nuisance although I got there with intense pain, one of the most intense pain known to medicine. Very disappointing. The emergency stuff seemed bored and bothered by our problems. I noticed similar behaviour towards other patients also. This is a significant drop in care quality from the last time I was here, with a similar problem, about 2 or 3 years ago. They simply decided to sent me home with no medication. I had to ask for a prescription. Very, very disappointing.

Exceptional staff. Made me feel comfortable and gave me breakfast. Quick timing. Respectful privacy, clean and proper PPE. Would of gave a 5, however my chest pressure has become more painful since I left. So many tests were done, yet nothing explained why my heart was rapid, or why I've become so short out of breath. Lots of suggestions for symptoms and ideas leading into what's causing it but no solution or real answers. Sadly this was my second time seeking urgent help. The first hospital was less then helpful, rude and disregarding patients privacy at Queensway. I was hoping to get some comfort. Not having a doctor and waiting on a clinic does not help either. My pressure in my chest is so unbearable. It is effecting me with the simplest day to day routines. Seeing as it got worse when I left Queensway. Jaw pain is becoming more uncomfortable, along with muscle weakness and heat behind arms, left arm pain, after leaving the General today, which i was debating even going to in the first place, because of the bad experience at Queensway. Would have been nice feeling like i didn't waste time with both visits, unfortunately thats not the case. My biggest fear is I just may have a heart attack or stroke if things become worse while waiting on results from clinic. Along with a cardiologist appointment request from Queensway.

I went to the ER yesterday around 10:30 am. I was experiencing pain from what I now know was kidney stones. I waited around 30 minutes in the waiting room after registering and was brought back to the urgent care department, blood was taken and I was given a room. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable and the nurses were all very lovely and made sure I knew that if my symptoms worsened they were there to help. I waited around an hour to see the doctor, who was very kind and straightforward. I was then sent for a CT scan which took all of 5 minutes. The longest part of the journey was the doctor waiting for the CT results, but as soon as he got them he came and shared with me my diagnosis and discharge plan. Overall, my stay from start to finish was less than 5 hours. I am so so thankful for the level of care offered here!

Came in with covid symptoms, they made me sit in the garage in the freezing cold and wouldn't provide any sort of comfort such as a bed after I told them I had trouble breathing and chills. Ended up going home because I couldn't take the cold anymore. Will be filing a complaint. No human should be treated this way.

Today I had the best experience I have ever had in a Hospital. So much so that I HAD to write a review. Everyone I came into contact with was extremely helpful and KIND, I wish I had all of their names to list here! THANK YOU to the staff in the Emergency department, to the staff in Radiology and to the covid screeners at the front entrance - you were all remarkable! The doctor who saw me in Emergency was incredible! Seriously the nicest woman, very kind and very attentive! Honestly, I was blown away by everyone's eagerness to help me and awnser any questions I had. It is so stressful having to go to the hospital, but I can honestly say that because of the way I was treated I was extremely comfortable and calm throughout my entire time here. Thank you to all of you who helped me today!

It's a pretty busy place, my experience with the NICU team is amazing. I can't thank them enough, they are so dedicated, professional and loving people. Extremely attentive to the need of the patient and their families. Great team work.

After getting in a bad biking accident, thinking I have a concussion and a broken arm I headed here. I have waited 5.5 hours in the waiting room with a neck brace on, and so far I’ve been in my own room for 2.5-3 hours now. I have not seen a single person in over 7 hours, nor have I received any pain medication or update. The wait time when I came in said 5.5 hours… and it’s been over 7. At this point I don’t even care if my arm is broken I want to leave. This healthcare system needs a serious upgrade.

Want to thank all members of Ottawa General for their continued care during these crazy times. You continue to provide the best care. Your screening process is great through the main entrance. But I feel that this could be better implemented at emerg as lots of people are using Emergency due to their family Dr's not seeing them because they are showing minor symptoms of covid.

Had to make an ER visit. When I got there there were about 40 people. Initial estimate was 4.5 hours. Actual time ended up being 3 hours. When I did see the doctor it was very fast Dr was very nice, friendly. Had me stitched in less than 5 mins.

Meh. Not the best but not the worst either. A lot of hurry up and wait to be seen. The ER is painfully slow. The day surgery unit and pacu nurses were wonderful though. I will be here sometime in 2022 for yet another surgery so hopefully things will go well.

I very rarely go to the hospital, but compared to the other two I've went to (Montfort & Hull), the service was incredible. Everyone was friendly and considerate, and I got seen in a fraction of the time that I would anywhere else. Thank you all very much :)

We were at hospital for 2 days, the staff took extreme care of my wife and baby during delivery and post delivery. Really appreciate the effort that hospital staff puts in for making sure mother and baby are safe not only in hospital but also when they leave. We will recommend this place anytime.

My husband and I were visiting family in Wellington from Tennessee when we had to call an ambulance for him. They transported him to Picton, which airlifted him to Ottawa General. He was in ICU for 4 nights and then moved to regular floor. All the Drs and nurses took excellent care of him. They were all so very nice to me and his children and kept us well informed. Thank you so very much from all of us!!

Staying in a ward is awful. Not enough beds for semi-private. So the rating goes to the staff. Merge staff was great. Dr Jones and the trachea surgeon staff are very informative and great at what they do. Tracy, Steven with assist Julie, Megan, Samantha and the nurse staff of the 6th floor have been top notch ! But if it wasn’t for the staff id give this hospital a ZERO. It is in need of a massive renovation. It’s too old. I mean no water for the whole hospital ?!!!! But again the nurses I had were curteous, with a smile behind their masks, very professional and quick to respond.

😠 I don't even rate this place a 1. This place should be condemned. With the exception of one amazing male nurse, there is no compassion at all for the patients. The nurses get annoyed when the patients call their call bell. Through the night, they don't even answer the bells and when they do, if th...
