Used to be the best hospital in Ottawa 4 years ago. Things have changed a lot. Overcrowded waiting rooms, dismissive physicians. They will send you away without giving any consideration to your health problems and they will give you the most BS explanation as of why you have nothing! I wonder why are they coming to work if they so much hate patients and what they are doing. Disgusting!!! STAY AWAY!

Very first ask wait time ,answer call ambulance then less wait time. Wait time nine to eleven hours when you go without ambulance. Literally they will torture you just sit on wheelchair or ordinary chair. Staff running around like fools. Front desk staff rude disrespectful, ignorant. Unskilled unethical Nurses and Doctors. They do x- rays, CT scan and MRI, but can't read. Radiologist unskilled inexperienced write at the end three to four things. Conclusion is zero. Wondering how they get license? Where they spent their years and years. Their goal is ones get licence and make money. No humanity no ethics. Canada in healthcare is ten minus zero. Worst treatment all over the world. Sucking people's hard earned TAX money.

I feel as though every time I go to this specific hospital it's like you're playing a game of Russian roulette. I understand hospitals aren't supposed to be all breezy and easy going, but I genuinely feel like the atmosphere here lacks hospitality and compassion. I recently spent 8 hours waiting in the emergency room, when I finally got moved to a bed (mind you I'm 15 weeks pregnant and was there for abnormal abdominal pain which didn't seem to be high priority for them). An hour had passed and still, no doctor. I also haven't been able to keep any food down for the past 2 weeks, so I was terribly hungry. They said I couldn't eat anything incase I needed to have tests done. So I was shaking and panicking due to lack of nutrition in those 8/9 hours. I wasn't allowed any support persons with me (which I understand due to COVID) but there were several other people in the waiting room that had someone there with them. Overall it was a horrible experience, and i ended up leaving the hospital because of a panic attack due to hunger, and the nurse didn't even care, which only tells me that I still wasn't going to be seen for a while.

I've always had great experience there, from birthing my children, to surgery to ER services. The wait can be long but that's not the hospitals fault, just the way the healthcare system is. The staff is great, professional and friendly. The nurses are especially wonderful and very attentive. They are well equipped with surgical rooms, to wheelchairs, etc. The parking is also easy to navigate. Push a button to get a ticket, keep it with you when you go into the hospital and then pay for the parking inside before you leave. Then you just insert the ticket into the machine on your way out. Definitely my favorite hospital in the Ottawa area!

My experiences at this hospital have been very positive. Empathetic and kind, attentive staff members in the Emergency Room. Wait times are reasonable, depending on how wait room traffic. The space is kept clean; washrooms especially. The Doctors are kind and take their time with the patients. I'm very grateful to have a hospital like this in Ottawa. Thank you Queensway Carleton Hospital. *If you like my reviews, please hit the like button.

The ER staff were amazing! The nurses in the ward were great. The hospital is doing their best to help everyone as best they can. It is evident. Although they are sometimes short staffed, they still try to make it work and smile. This has been a horrible three years experience for the health care profession and we should applaud and appreciate what they do. When you treat them kindly they, like all people, respond in kind. They are here to help. THANK YOU!

I went to the emergency today and all of the staff were so warm and kind! It took 6 hours from beginning to end because I ended up going there a little late (1pm). I also had blood work done, an X-ray, an ECG and a meeting with Doctor Lu (apologize for spelling), she was so wonderful. I loved all the nurses and doctors on staff today. Thanks for such a great experience given the context! I really felt the patient care. I'm sorry you don't have better reviews that reflect the quality from this hospital. I also ended up being completely fine :)

Terrible experience with the parking security. The black male in his 50s approached my vehicle without a mask on, and when I asked him to put his mask on I was demanded to leave the property. Disappointing experience. They should worry about the police blocking the crosswalk and not allowing the elderly and women with strollers to safely cross and get over the curb.

It's always buzy here. Some staff are nice, than you get not a nice staff. I know they work hard, but we all are working hard these days. I just wish these staff would just be nicer and understanding, I always feel that Am wasting their time, that's why I never go to the hospital..until I feel like am dieing. Thank u for everyone hard work, but just be nicer...it's not that hard.

All staff was friendly ftom the time I stepped to the time I left. I was told were to go and checked in In a friendly and efficient manner. It was easy for me to find my appointment location. My appointment went smoothly and was as expected. Parking is available but the maximum cost is reached quickly.

Terrible experience here with my son, when he was having a mental health crisis. Went on a Friday and literally only left about 13 hours later. There were no seats in the waiting room for hours, so I sat on the floor. At one point I saw someone approach a triage nurse and ask politely "do you know how much longer it will be?". The nurse must have said something rude in response because I heard the woman answer back "I was only asking". (Yes, I imagine it is a very difficult job, but abusive behaviour should not be tolerated from either side...). So, no points on welcoming staff. When we finally got to the "back side" we were put in a room. I was exhausted so was sleeping on the dirty floor, my son on the bed. One kind nurse brought over warm blankets and put them over us...honestly very sweet gesture, highlight of the experience. Unfortunately our actual nurse (young woman, glasses, maybe 28 or so?) was a witch. Sorry, she really was. Giving attitude when I am explaining the situation is uncalled for. My son has autism and I was trying to help paint a clear picture. The psychiatrist came, she was ok. I had to ask for resources and she gave one business card to a place. All in all a useless visit. Degrading experience even. Go to the General for mental health issues, honestly. They treat you with more respect. (Can't speak of the Civic as have never been). Giving two stars for the kind nurse with the warm blankets and the Tim Hortons being run efficiently.

I visited the QC Hospital a few weeks back with a sharp pain (appendix), and the wait was long (12 h), but the diagnosis and care were excellent. Like everyone else sitting in the waiting room, I felt my situation should get me immediate attention (heard many grumblings), but the triage folks try their best to queue up their visitors and most of us have no idea what is unfolding behind the scenes. I saw the ER doctor and associated nurses (amazing care), was referred to a surgeon (exceptional) and finally admitted to D4? for a few days, and the folks there were great as well. I really have to thank the QC for such great care. Yes, the wait was fairly long, but seeing as the hospital footprint in Ottawa hasn't changed since I was in high school (I'm 60) .....and the population has pretty much exploded in Ottawa, the feat is remarkable.

Something has to be done about this emergency intake team. There has to be a better system that lets patients know where they are in the queue. Waiting 10 hours without any communication is insane. Worst of all is the staffโ€™s attitude , extremely condescending when answering questions around time Frame. People come to the hospital at their worst of times Itโ€™s my view that a hospital should make every effort to turn things around in every way possible from the moment you walk in. Please come up with a system/process that keeps patients in the loop.

You do see many complaints on here, however many people seem to forget how the triage system works and the fact wait times are a national issue...these things they have no control over. I have been here twice, first time I waited 6 hours to be seen due to a sprained ankle which is non life threatening and understand the wait. Second time, I entered with what seemed to be septic symptoms and was told I'd be brought right in which I was. Both times the ER nursing staff and team of doctors were great. Especially now with the Pandemic they seem to be working extra hard, and deserve some gratitude

To the receptionist named "Holly" you are a repulsive horrible excuse of a person. You have no patience and should not be working in a hospital setting. You are rude and sound like you hate your job. Do us a favor and quit and never come back.

Despite being in the ER for 12 hours, I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience. The nurses, techs & doctor all went above & beyond to provide friendly, compassionate, & diligent care. The professionalism was noteworthy. I always felt safe & well looked after, & would like to give a warm thanks to Dr. McGee for his assiduousness. As previously stated in other reviews, please be patient & kind. They really are doing their best.

I don't even know where to start. When I first got to the hospital I went into the main doors and spoke to a nurse behind the glass. she told me I needed to go to emerge and to go outside (it was cold and pouring rain and I was having difficulty walking due to pain) and go to the white tents. I walked around the building and couldn't find any white tents, so I went back and asked her about it and she asked her co-worker if they'd taken the tents down and they had and she said to me "oops". Usually "I'm sorry" is a more appropriate response when you send a sick person to the wrong place. The triage nurse who saw me was ill-tempered. When I asked which arm she wanted to take my blood pressure with she said she didn't care in an irritated voice. My blood pressure is consistently textbook normal. When she took it she asked me what it usually is and I couldn't remember the numbers (I was sick, in pain, exhausted) and said "textbook usually" and when I asked her what that was she said "for a young male?" Good gawd, I'm a middle-aged woman! When she put on the hospital bracelet she put it too tight and later I had to take it off because it was pushing into my wrist. When I was put in one of the ER waiting rooms I clearly heard the ER Dr. talking about a patient on the phone. She used his name, diagnosis and medication changes. For all to hear!!!! When this Dr. saw me, she said she would order a test, but I would have to come back tomorrow. She told me they would call me in the morning to schedule it and gave me some papers to show when I came back. I never heard from them. This is my second really poor experience with this hospital.

Updates: I've had to go to the emergency couple of times during the pandemic and the way how nurses & doctors helped me out made me change my rating and update my review. Thank you for taking people's feedback into account and making positive changes. โ€----โ€------------------------------------------------------------ Old feedback The nurse at the registration desk was very rude to me, she started negatively by saying as a person with fever I don't need a wheelchair as other people with broken leg would use them but I told her that I have no energy to walk or I would pass out ... then she checked me up unpleasantly, each time saying you don't have any symptoms... am I crazy to come to the hospital if I don't have any symptoms? After 5 hours of waiting time the doctor came, did her check ups and said this is a virus you have to rest , no prescription ... the day after I woke up with pain and fever again , went to a walking clinic and I was treated better by getting a prescription and I'm feeling much better after using the medications. As a patient in pain I need a kind environment not a tense one ...

The main entrance reception here has absolutely no idea what they're doing. They sent my 40 week pregnant wife to wait for over 3 hours in the emergency department while all along she was expected in the birthing unit, which she told them, but they asked her to go to emergency. Train your staff better. A pregnant woman who is not in any sort of crisis should be directed needless to say to a BIRTHING UNIT.

The wait times can be excessive, but I've never experienced the level of rudeness seen in many of the other reviews listed here. Understand however, that the QCH is a Private hospital, and is an example of the care expected by privatized care. The other hospitals in Ottawa, which are public hospitals, are rated much better. Something to consider, as the general population insists that private care is better and are pushing for more hospitals to be privatized like this one. (The new General Hospital is supposedly moving to the same Privatized model.) As proven in this case, Private does not mean better, despite the propaganda we are fed from our friends in the south.

The doctors are rude and dismissive. The doctor I saw this time didnt even introduce himself. I heard the nurses making jokes about a patient coming in with a headache. Its the same every time I've been here. Our Healthcare system is absolutely destroyed and im embarrassed for Canada. I will say the triage department seemed to be on point. Typically its not a bad experience going through there.

Came here twice for my partner. She got serious headache for hours for the first time. We waited for 4 hours until all the symptoms are gone. The doctor didnโ€™t do anything other than sent us to a room and let her took a scan. Now sheโ€™s having a very bad stomach pain, we waited for two hours now and havenโ€™t see a doctor yet. Sheโ€™s having huge pain and cannot answering any question. The nurse called me( cuz visitors are not allowed rn) and asked how come she doesnโ€™t speak English??? That is rude!!!

Came in to get a dose of pain medication needed to get me over for the night untill I could see my GP the following afternoon. It has been over 7.5 hours in an empty waiting room without seeing a single medical professional. Meanwhile everyone else who came before and after me has been seen. It would have litteraly taken 25 minutes tops to have me in and out the door. This is unacceptable. I am still sitting here waiting and told I'm now 3rd in line. To who? Everyone here has seen a doctor or left.

We have been going to QCH for over 25 years, for many different reasons and for different generations of family. In short, I've spent hundreds of hours there, being a patient or visitor. I have very, very few complaints. We get excellent care, from nurses to doctors, ED to ACE care. Wait times are painful at times, but if you need immediate help, you absolutely get it. It's called Triage for a reason. I've heard the way some patients speak to staff, and the abuse the staff take. Going on two years of the pandemic, the staff must be at their breaking point. Be kind.

People should appreciate the great care they receive from that hospital. Medical staff are very kind, warm and highly professional. Any lengthy wait time reported by other reviewers are associated to the lack of resources/funding as well as most urgent cases are always prioritized - Everyone from the triage to final doctor review is a great experience provided by folks that truly cares - We're in a pandemic (still) and they are on the front line for us! - Everyone should say THANK YOU!

The staff yesterday on the emergency side are wonderful, and made me feel welcome and safe. Unfortunately I did not receive that same treatment today. The main entrance in-take lady was rude and disrespectful. Asked me if I was vaccinated, I say no. She mumbled under her breath "great." As if I wouldn't hear. Not very professional, keep your personal opinions to yourself when you're working. It's people like you that make people not want to come in when they need to.

Was admitted through emergency department and the care I received was and has been fantastic from the porters, the technicians, doctors and nurses so happy with the care and attention received. Yes wait times are long but that is going to be same anywhere due to an unprecedented stress on our system. However I would not know it from the professionalism I received today. Love coming here.

Very disappointing service. I understand everyone is busy but they have to keep in mind that if some people go to the hospital is because they don't feel good. For me to go to the doctor or hospital is because I'm in a lot of pain. Waiting time was 8hrs which again, I understand but the attitude of the staff is very very unprofessional, cold and rude. After 3.5 hrs with no update or help with my pain, I ended up going back home to spend all day in bed with LOTS of pain. Now, 24hrs later, I'm feeling better and seriously hoping not to have to go back to be treated worse than if they are doing me a favor.

In October 2023 I was admitted to QCH with congestive heart failure. I spent 2 days in the emergency ward and 10 days in ward B2. I can not say enough about the professionalism, understanding and care provided by the attending Doctors and Nurses. I am alive today because of them. Today, November 16/23 I spent the day in the Day Surgery Ward and again received outstanding care.

Keep in mind, the hospital was empty at the time, and my wait time was non existent. I was there maybe 1.5 hrs for a shoulder injury, which included an x-ray. I was very impressed. Everyone of the staff that I interacted with was excellent, every single one, from the emergency reception to the registration to the triage doctor. Everyone, except Amanda Martin, who was the rudest person I've ever met. Her only job, from what I could gather, was to direct people to their rooms in the emergency triage unit. I guess even that is too stressful for her. The fact that my tax dollars pay her salary is pathetic. If anyone in the private sector acted the way she clearly thinks is acceptable, they would be fired on the spot. Reprehensible and discusting. Usually when you hate your job, you quit. Is she autistic? That's the only possible explanation I could ever accept... Will update review to five stars if she is fired.

It is encouraging to know that even with our overburdened healthcare system, during a pandemic, you will receive care quickly if itโ€™s urgently needed. Granted after I was stabilized there were many hours of lying around, which is expected due to lack of resources, and since I arrived in the middle of the night I couldnโ€™t get scans and see the specialist until morning. It would also be difficult if you had to come alone because itโ€™s hard to get a nurseโ€™s attention if you need anything while lying in bed. Though I would avoid going to the ER if I had anything that wasnโ€™t urgent, as I would definitely be waiting a long time. When I was wheeled through a different part of the ER at around 7 am I saw a sign that said 8+ hours to see a doctor, but by around 11 am it has been dropped to 2+ hours.

Doctors, nurses and the staff are very efficient and polite. There might be wait times depending on the number of patients. However treatment is based on emergency basis. They get all the required tests done and share the results on the same day. Be prepared to wait for atleast 4 hours to complete all the checks. Doctors clearly explain results and the next steps.

I went to the ER last Friday night and then had an ultrasound several days later - I am blown away by the quality of this hospital. Whether it be the admin staff in person or over the phone, the nurses or thr doctors, ever single person I spoke to was incredibly kind and respectful. The hospital was also very clean. The wait time for the ER was long, but I know they are short-staffed, so that's not their fault. Otherwise, things were amazingly efficient. My ultrasound was done right on time and I was able to see an ER doctor within one hour to discuss the results. Thank you so much to all the staff for your kindness and hard work, I feel so lucky to have access to this hospital.

They do their best to help everyone in timely manner and as efficient as possible but there are things that are under their control such as shortage in staffing leading to longer wait time in the ER. New to Ottawa. Staff were phenomenal. Upon arrival there seemed to be 40+ people in the waiting room. The wait time was 4+ hours. We were seen at about 6.5hrs, and the doc was so patient and thorough. Same amount of people in an ER in our old city would have been 12+ hours. All staff interacted with were kind, compassionate and helpful. Not one made me feel like they were rushed or inconvenienced by their role. Top notch team members!!! Only complaint is there were no stretchers available to public in ER waiting areas. The only way I could get one would be to have called an ambulance - which I didn't want to use precious resources for my condition. Unfortunately sitting in a chair was impossible, and so was standing for periods longer than 5 minutes. Staff were kind and allowed us to wait in our vehicle where I could lay down, but I was too nervous I'd miss being called in so I was back and forth from the paid parking lot area more than I could tolerate, since its not an in/out priviledge lot (that we knew of). Perhaps a purchase of a reclining mobility aid for use solely for these circumstances may be in a future budget consideration?

It is my 3rd visit to its emergency department in last 6 months for so-called non-life-threatening conditions for me and my grandson. I have found it to be the most inefficient hospital unit anywhere in the world. 3rd world countries have far better systems. I am right now sitting here for last 8 hours, waiting for my 1 year old grandson to be seen by a doctor for probably a single stich. But as he is not likely to die, system does not bother. Every organization public and private ask for customer reviews etc, but this one has no formal mechanism for lodging complains, even.

Let me share! So one night i was minding my own business when the ottawa police detained me without reading my rights, without a badge and without reason. The ottawa police brought me to the queensway carleton hospital, where without any just cause or reason i was held for 3 days against my will. During that time i was injected with an unknown substance that caused a rash to form, i was forced to take a synthetic medication, lithium bicarbonate. I showed zero signs of aggression during my stay. Im curious do human beings not have rights anymore? When i wrote the hospital director an email regarding this incident, Susan Barnes, she did acknowledge reciept of my email. I then continued on to solve cancer, hiv, hpv, heart issues, alzheimers, spinal breaks, blood types - all of these are basically electrical current issues, in hiv youre infected with white blood cells that require a higher voltage than you are producing or you are recieving in your environment - the condition occurs naturally as immune deficiencies ever fall when the summer electrons reduce and we are in a negative environment, so our electrical charge is not recieving the same stimulae and people get sick. Fertility here is a major problem and there is nothing right about having a pregnant mothers womb interact with sound and sonar frequencies developed by a computer as to determine the sex, this frequency and others emitted in this 2024 computer environment are negatively affecting birth and society should be aware. You are doing an awful job at this hospital - human beings have rights and you have zero ZERO right to detain someone against their will - innocent until proven guilty so why is the hospital holding people for 72 hours? This is illegal!

I just spent the day in day surgery and it went very well! Nurses are very kind and helpful. It was my first surgery so I was pretty nervous but all in all everything went great! Thank you to the nurses and staff at the QCH it definitely made it a lot less stressful for me

This is my fourth time at this hospital for myself or others, I am completely amazed with the quality of the staff. Today I was super treated by the lady at the registration and the CT Scan male nurse / technician, he was absolutely amazing and efficient. Amazing staff, everyone is amazing. Actually there was one bad apple a Covid screening employee at emergency who rolled his eyes when I said I couldnt wear a mask more than 20-30 minutes for breathing issues a couple of months ago but otherwise super good service, knowledgeable, compassionate, efficient, friendly, professional staff.

I've been there twice now for unrelated issues over the past 6 months, once around 8am and another around 9pm. Each time I found the staff to be completely lovely. Of course wait times aren't always great, the first time I was there it took around 6hrs, but hey, the docs know when something is a life threatening issue v.s. when someone can wait. Its important that those who need it most get seen first. Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and support staff for providing as good of an experience as one can have when they attend an ER.

Excellent care provided by all staff from Emergency thru admitting, to specialists. Not where one wants to be, but all staff were pleasant, courteous, and professional. This hospital is kept clean, much unlike a previous experience at another city hospital. Confident that care is excellent here. UPDATE: The rating has been lowered because we're waiting 21 weeks 1 day for a CT scan. Doctors have submitted 8 requisitions and called the radiologist multiple times, and nothing! CT scans still have to happen during Covid when people require testing.

The lady who is working in the MRI Department at the QCH today August 27, 2021 was very unprofessional and sounded like she hated her job. Just miserable. If you do not like your job, please quit instead of making people feel bad for calling as you make it well aware that your unhappy/annoyed by helping. Times are though, life is short. Please try to enjoy it. You work in a Hospital, you are supposed to be helping people or at least want to want to help. I will never go to this Hospital again. Very disappointed with the service.

My mother was admitted to emergency. The staff, doctors and MRTs were/are so caring and respectful of her situation. She was admitted and getting around the clock care. The nurses (Kimberly, Fiona to name a few. I wish I can remember all their names) are phenomenal as well as the PSWs helping out. They put my mind at ease, knowing there are such caring people looking after my mom when I can't be there. This is by far the best hospital experience I've ever had. I can't say enough great things about the people there, in the trenches, caring for family members. Thank you so much.

I had an amazing experience at the Queensway Carleton Hospital today! The staff were all friendly and seemed to genuinely care about the patients! All in all, I did not wait too long and I was seen, tested and diagnosed for a kidney stone in less than 5.5 hours. During Covid - I think that is pretty good! I would also like to mention that I was at the MontFord yesterday for the same issue and I waited 9.5 hours and was never seen - after I was brought in by ambulance in extreme pain! I came to the Queensway on my own the next day... It was like night and day between the 2 hospitals. The MontFord staff are almost evil and do not care about the patients - while as I mentioned above, the staff at the Queensway were great! Thanks again Queensway Carleton Hospital!

I tend to avoid hospitals in general since the medical community can only treat the symptoms, but Queensway Carleton is a fine hospital. They are of course smaller in scope while patience is in order due to the pandemic. You must wear a face mask (Eyes Without A Face) while emotions can be contagious, so please kindly relax upon entry. The hospital also has a nice location within our city.

I don't mind waiting 9 almost 10 hours. I wasn't dying, it was fine. However a man came in a couple hours after me with a stab wound in his hand and bleeding quite a lot, he waiting till after me to get seen. Which doesn't seem right. There was an older woman complaining about the wait times, and after she had left I could hear the nurses complaining very loudly in the triage station about her, which seems extremely unprofessional. I have a fractured fibula, and was given a quote for crutches and a boot, I have crutches at home so I didn't take those and was told they would be removed from my bill by both the nurse and the doctor. I got the bill last night and I was charged for crutches, so now I have to track down whoever can fix that. This morning I received a call(I was asleep so voicemail) about the supposed appointment with the doctor that no one told me the date of today at 8:30. It would have been nice if I had received a call or even an email a day before to remind me of the appointment I wasn't informed about as I now have to rebook it myself if I want to see the doctor. Overall, extremely disorganized it seems and not a good hospital to go to. Just go to a different one.

Two stars because I have been fairly treated there. My mother?? Terrible treatment!! Know it was a while ago but still bothers me to this day. I drove my mother to the QCH ER in late 2020 because of severe hip/buttock/leg area pain. So severe she could not walk unaided and cried screaming in pain with each step. Watching your 81 yr old mother cry in pain when there is nothing you can do to relieve it is heart breaking. I found a wheelchair but emergency would not let me enter. Fine. By the time this was over my mother was not only crying from pain but from frustration and humiliation as well. Once in a room a nurse had to help her undress to put on a gown. After being sent for an x-ray she managed to painfully redress herself. Doctor came in and told her the x-ray showed mild arthritis in her hip and it cannot hurt that much. He told her she was over reacting and to take some tylenol and gave her a prescription for an anti-inflammatory. He then stood with hands on hips and said "NOW I WANT TO SEE YOU WALK OUT OF HERE". She told him she can't, it hurts too much! Shaking his head he told her she is exaggerating and again said he wants to see her walk out of there. Wow. She limped and cried her way out of that room into the hallway and the doctor left. Thankfully a kind nurse saw her and helped her to a wheelchair and wheeled her out to the car where I was waiting. The nurse was wonderful and after helping my mom into the car she rather awkwardly said 'I am so sorry'. I asked 'sorry for what?' but she just wished my mom well and hurried away. My mother's family doctor arranged for an urgent ultrasound a few days later and it turns out the pain was from completely blocked arteries in her pelvis going down to her leg!!! She had to have angioplasty and stents. That ER doc should be forced to retrain or should not be a doctor at all. I would bet my life that there are many other similar stories of neglect involving him. If I knew it, I would write his name here.

Long wait times to see a doctor. The triage system is a disaster.ย  It needs to be modified. At least, one doctor should look at the patients with minor ones, such as having fever, cold etc. defined by a nurse. People would have to wait until morning for the 15-20 minutes doctor visit as none of the health care facilities were open during the night. The time spent with nurses was considerably more than the time spent with the doctor. One doctor can see, examine and prescribe a medicine if needed for these minor cases quickly and reduce the considerable number of patients in the emergency room. Then, he/she can continue with the other patients with deep diagnostic tests if needed. It was so slow. It was started with 4 hours or more, nobody believes it, then 6 hours or more and then 8 hours or more. After adding the word "more", all numbers are not trustable anymore. After 11 hours, we saw the doctor for 10 minutes. To see a doctor should not be that long. If it is classified as a minor problem by a nurse, we can see them as a group and send them to home in 30 minutes. Five stars goes to a wonderful nurse working during night on 15th to 16th September night time. She was so helpful to everyone. She helped people who are feeling cold by offering blankets, water etc. Thank you so much again. It is really hard to understand. Everybody is trying to go to home country if it is possible to be examined and cured. Something is really wrong in the healthcare system. We need to have some private hospital. At least, you can spend your all money but you can survive. For dentist, you have yo pay, but you can visit the dentist in a short time. For allergist, you have to pay for the shots, an you can visit in a short time. We need to allow and tempt the establishment of the private hospitals. The responsible authorities should visit the emergency service and listen to patients, nurse and doctors to determine what should be done to improve the system. Everybody is complaining. Fortunately, all patients are able to be calm for long hours. It is unbelievably fantastic. That's why, these people deserve a good health care. The specialist should see the patients during the working hours without referral before 1 year wait. So, they can see the problem when is at the beginning stage, not after one year wait time. If something is bad, it is too late to cure it, and you need to spend more money to cure it. It is a big hospital from outside. Once you are in you can just see the emergency and emergency staff. What is the purpose of the rest of the hospital building? Lots of money has been spent by patients and government while we are trying to see the specialists. You will visit your family doctor and get some medication until you see the specialist. Lots of time and money. Every shopping center has a family clinic, but a considerable percentage of people don't have a family doctor. The clinic can decide whether to open walkin clinic or not. It is very weird. One day you can learn they don't have any walk-in anymore. No regulations. It should be mandatory to have walk-in option. I have never seen my old family doctor in person as I found him during covid time. He was not even in the country, he was in UK. For 2 years, just a phone call. He was getting money from government even he was not in the country. But we are waiting at least at 8 hours in emergency of hospital. He should serve in hospital to help the emergency doctors. Too many family doctors in the city, but you cannot see them. They are just looking at their patients. If you ask me, I would close all small clinics. Then, I would build a one big family clinic for a specified residential area. Then, we can reduce the expenses. The family doctors can work in emergency service in the hospital as well as per a plan. The triage system should be modified with some additional changes which is aiming to reduce patients in the emergency room instead of just keeping them in emergency room for long hours to see a doctor for 10 minutes. I hope one day we can resolve this l

No one cares to have an MRI, at least I don't think so. But today I had one in your hospital. A big thank you to Wilson, who explained the procedure to me, and asked if I had any questions. I said no, but I have terrible veins. He assured me not to worry and carefully examined possible sites. The first didn't work, but I was not perturbed. I knew he would succeed and he did! What a cheerful and reassuring person. Thank you Wilson..

Queensway Carleton Hospital @ ACE UNIT. My mother-in-law died on Jan.28, 2024 in this unit and nobody knows what time she died. Since she was admitted 2 days before, Nurses kept calling us and updated us about my mother-in-lawโ€™s condition. On Sunday evening about 5:35pm, we showed up at the hospital at ACE unit, i saw the Nurse on duty (Chinese nurse) beside my mother-in-lawโ€™s bed, looks like she just gave medication, while we took time to wear our PPE because she was on standard precaution. When the nurse saw us, she came out from the room and open her computer and showed us all the medications that they are giving to my mother-in-law. After she left, we went inside the room and i went closer to my mother-in-law and just by her look, i already knew that sheโ€™s dead. She was awful cold and freezing to touch. I hooked her up with the pulse oximeter but no result, so i rang the call bell for the nurse. She came and i asked her, โ€œWhen was the last time you took her vital signs?โ€ She open her computer and said, she took it at 8am when she started her shift at 7am. So i asked her, How ofter do you take your patientโ€™s vital signs? She said, only once per shift. I asked her why only once? She said, itโ€™s because the patient is palliative. I understand, iโ€™m not saying to check blood pressure but at least to check her pulse and oxygen saturation if sheโ€™s breathing or not. So i asked the nurse, how would you know if your patient is dead or not? She just canโ€™t give me an answer. THIS IS REALLY UNACCEPTABLE. Imagine going to the hospital only to find out that your dying mother was IGNORED and nobody knew if she was dead or not. She could have died hours ago and nobody knows. TO THE NURSE ON DUTY: Just because the patient is palliative, you just ignored her. You just gave medication via PICC Line and you didnโ€™t even know that sheโ€™s already dead. Obviously, youโ€™re just only there for the money. You donโ€™t have any compassion at all for your patient. This is NOT THE RIGHT CAREER FOR YOU. Get out from Health care and go take another career for you. Such a Dummy Nurse !!! I am a Registered Nurse (PICU/NICU) and for 30 years of work experience, I was always committed to take care my patients and their families. I worked above and beyond of what is expected of me and i always exceed. I never had any patient nor family complains against me, except high compliments and appreciations. The world is round and Life is too short, Whatever you do to others, it will always come back to you. TO ALL NURSES: Please always carry compassion, love, patience and kindness with you even though the work place is so busy, please work with your HEARTโค๏ธ because these qualities and values will take you far and beyond greatness. Treat your patients as humans and as yourself. Thank you. Sincerely, Jocelyn Ignacio BSN-RN (PICU/NICU)

I spent 7 hours at the ED on February 4, which I did not mind one bit. The doctor, nurses, and X-ray technician were great, and I finally got a diagnosis. The one thing I was confused about is they did nothing in the way of sanitizing the waiting rooms.

Support staff was very kind and knowledgeable. However, the specialist I saw within their pain/ambulatory department lacked customer service skills and general knowledge. I was supposed to receive an ambulatory and a pain assessment. Neither were done, the only concern being if I wanted to proceed with treatment. If you are struggling with back pain and do not want possibly life-long epidural injections, and have been referred here, I would seek another medical professional.

Would give 4.5 stars out of 5 if I could. Although the wait time was long (5 hours for a split lip, no stranger to wait times in Canada), the care was done quickly and effectively. People need to understand how triage works before complaining on wait times and priorities. Witnessed a lady (small dog bite) lose her mind because a man being wheeled in a gurney (from an ambulance, possibly heart related) was rushed ahead of her. Also big kudos to the nurses and doctors in the NICU, very professional.

I am only giving 4 stars as my first visit there was met by a receptionist at the ER who actually made me feel so guilty I left with a fever of almost 40 celsius and hardly able to breathe. Skip forward several months I had to go in for an allergic reaction. Luckily it was late enough that there was no reception in the ER. Skipped straight to the triage nurse who was efficient and quite lovely. The ER nurse that brought me in was a peach. And then my doctor was also quite nice and despite being busy was able to answer my questions. I know a lot of the reviews come from people who really don't understand the system. Wait times and priority given to other people is not a reason for 1 star, and a lot of people on here think their doctor Google degree means if the doc disagrees with them there is mal practice involved. Figure out the reception issue and all is fine from my perspective.

Everyone involved - from admission to the nurses to the surgeon and anesthesiologists - were incredibly friendly, communicative and caring. My 73 yr old mom had a TIA 3+weeks ago and her legs still donโ€™t work properly. She was told she will not be getting any physiotherapy or help from the stroke clinic for at least 3 MONTHS due to backlog and sheโ€™s not an โ€œurgent case.โ€ Not being able to walk to the mailbox , walk your dog & being able to stand up for a shower without risk of falling over when you could easily do those things prior is a life changing trauma. She & others like her should not be left out to suffer needlessly when support i.e physio can be prescribed by the stroke clinic. This is needless & pitiful.

I found the service to be quite goodand fast to get x-rays. The issue I had is however, in order to get copies of your x-rays to provide to other practitioners, they do not have electronic images, they put them on a CD.... what century are they in? If you need X-rays - go to Canadian Diagnostic Imaging, same day results and they can move any results to anyone and give you access to all your results online to do with what you please.

Amazing nurses and Doctors for my 10 day stay with Covid. It was amazing dealing with people who actually cared. The only complaint is the non medical staff. Who told me I should stop drinking so much water and said there was no Tylenol for pain!!! BTW I had strep throat as well as the covid and pneumonia! Only relief was ice cold water! I will never go to any other hospital again. I had gone to Montford 3 days prior by ambulance as well and had a horrific experience. Review posted for their hospital as well. when i was 11 and broke my arm they didn't have enough experience with children to set my arm properly before putting it in a cast. more than a decade later and i've had to come back more than twice for the same reason, they send me back home without taking my congenital issues seriously despite having a doctors note, and the triage nurse just told me that i need to see registration so she can get paid for the uneducated conversation she had with me.

I have had great service in the Ambulatory care day unit for Iron Infusion. The nurses that provided my service are professional, attentive and informative. They have made this experience for me comfortable. I thank these ladies for caring during this process.

Went in during covid, had some bad gut issues and I have been waitlisted for the last 9 years for one. Got triaged and sat down, and then a doctor came out and started swearing at me and refused to listen to what I had to say, just to get an easier shift.

Pick another hospital! This one encourages employees to stay unmasked, even with cancer patients! For a hospital that has a natal ward and treats cancer, you would think they'd care enough to mask, but they truly do not care about your health. Even at intake the volunteers, the intake officers, even security do not mask. I mask 12 hours a day! Queensway is a very terrible hospital.

This hospital has gone downhill in the last 15 years. I took my daughter in to the emergency room on the recommendation of her doctor for possible appendicitis. We came in at 5:00 pm. It is now 2:30 am and she still hasnโ€™t seen a doctor and no indication of when that might happen. You have to try to sleep in an uncomfortable chair with many others. This is not how an Ottawa hospital should operate.

Itโ€™s a joke how they have a flag to unite and support truth and reconciliation here in Canada for its indigenous residential school survivors/victims yet they treat native people in the hosptial/system so disgustingly. I felt violated and breached from my own rights. Do not attend here if you are indigenous or anyone in general if you donโ€™t want to be treated poorly. The ER nurse was extremely condescending and irked of irritation whenever I gave details for an answer for the questions she asked. She appears to have blue-purple hair and glasses. Because I do not have a OHIP card- they made me sign a false waiver implying I am not an insured resident of Canada though I am insured by the health care government back in my home territory in Canada. I can assure you thereโ€™s better hospitals to attend in Ottawa and not this one. Not only that, but the severity of my symptoms/illness were heavily downplayed.

Although waiting in emergency can be long, the level of service and care are much better than the other hospitals I've been to in Ottawa. I have lived in Ottawa for 17 years and have had surgery, emergency and medical appointments in all of Ottawa's hospitals. I have also accompanied others to the hospital. By far, Queensway Carleton, for its smaller size, offers a better level of care.

I had to visit ER on and would like to share a great story about QCH. I must say that I received excellent care all throughout my stay. All stages starting from reception, registration, tests, monitoring, doctors assessment, and discharge were done fast, careful and with great attention and attitude. I was admitted at 8 am and left around 13:00. Staff was professional all throughout, very attentive and kind. Nurses were very fast and diligent in getting my bloodwork done, hooking up monitors and tracking all results. ER Dr came fast and was caring and knowledgeable. X-rays were done quick, x-Ray room is positioned right across the hall from the monitoring unit. All in all amazing experience, considering the stories of 10-13 hrs wait, that I was expecting. Thank you all staff at QCH, for your hard work, dedication and kindness. You all deserve better acknowledgement!!!
