So
So
So
So
So
So
disappointed
with
the
care
of
our
beloved
black
lab
Jaxon
who
had
received
"emergent
care"
this
week.
He
passed
away
shortly
after
we
picked
him
up
from
a
night
stay
at
the
emergency
room
department.
He
was
12
with
Addison's
Disease,
was
diagnosed
and
treated
for
pancreatitis
just
a
few
days
prior
to
his
visit
here.
The
Vet
called
us
and
said
that
his
blood
work
had
shown
he
was
dehydrated
and
recommended
some
IV
fluid,
was
admitted
early
morning
for
an
abdominal
Ultrasound.
The
dog
was
clearly
in
some
discomfort
at
the
time
of
admission
and
IV
pain
medication
was
administered
throughout
his
stay.
Later
that
night
we
had
called
for
an
update,
after
speaking
with
a
team
member
we
asked
if
he
had
received
his
Addison's
medication
which
he
has
been
taking
and
stable
on
for
10
years.
The
vet
tech
seemed
unaware
of
his
chronic
condition
(which
was
communicated
by
both
my
husband
and
sending
Vet
on
admission),
we
had
to
return
to
drop
the
medication
off.
Which
as
of
today
we
are
still
unsure
he
ever
received.
Given
that
they
weren't
able
to
complete
any
further
investigations
that
day
as
the
ultrasound
tech
was
done
for
the
day
and
our
dog
was
not
prioritized,
no
ultrasound
was
done
and
our
poor
Jaxon
spent
the
night.
The
vet
called
us
the
next
morning
after
getting
permission
from
us
to
draw
more
blood
work
and
believed
that
the
culprit
was
Lyme
disease.
Therefor
antibiotics
were
started.
We
reminded
the
team
several
times
that
our
dog
had
Addison's
Disease....
and
asked
if
this
was
possibly
an
Addison's
crisis
and
if
he
was
dying.
They
didn't
think
so.
After
they
told
us
our
Jaxon
was
eating
and
drinking
we
had
requested
he
be
discharge.
Just
so
you
all
know
our
bill
was
over
2,000
dollars
for
IV
fluids,
some
medications,
blood
work,
and
of
course
his
"emergent
stay".
Once
we
picked
up
our
dog
and
brought
him
home
the
vet
had
sent
us
with
a
prescription
for
additional
medications
(5
to
be
exact).
So
our
dog
was
now
expected
to
be
on
7
different
medications.
He
was
not
able
to
eat,
not
able
to
drink,
could
barely
walk,
he
was
extremely
fluid
overloaded,
his
face
was
swollen,
gums
were
discoloured,
laboured
breathing....it
was
evident
to
us
that
he
was
dying.
It
was
also
quite
evident
that
his
IV.s
had
gone
interstitial
(meaning
the
IV
catheter
had
gone
through
the
vein
and
leaked
into
surrounding
tissues)
causing
his
legs
and
shoulders
to
be
quite
swollen
and
painful.
And
I
wonder
how
much
medication
he
had
actually
received..
To
get
charged
for
all
this
"observation"
and
"emergent"
care
and
have
a
sicker
dog
returned
to
you
makes
me
sick!
The
end
result
might
have
been
the
same,
put
it's
the
poor
level
of
care
that
disgusts
me
the
most.
We
lost
some
precious
time
with
our
dog.
We
picked
up
our
dog
at
4pm
that
day
and
booked
a
time
to
have
him
put
down
the
very
next
morning...it
was
a
very
long
and
tearful
night.
We
weren't
even
sure
he
was
going
to
make
it
through
the
night!
Thankfully
we
got
to
see
him
one
last
time
before
he
passed,
but
we
would
have
liked
to
see
him
go
in
a
more
peaceful
manner.
Due
to
COVID,
we
were
not
allowed
visitations
if
we
had
not
advocated
for
him
to
return
home
we
may
not
have
had
the
chance
to
say
our
"Goodbyes".
During
his
stay
the
team
referred
to
him
as
"cute"
and
"sweet"
but
little
did
they
know
he
was
actually
slowly
passing
away.
No
one
advocated
for
our
dog
while
he
was
in
hospital,
to
have
interstitial
IV's
under
all
this
"observation"
in
unacceptable,
I
highly
doubt
he
died
from
Lyme
Disease!
DISGUSTED!
