UPDATED!!! Check the photos!! Stay away from this place!!! Worst experience ever! Save your money and time and go to another gym! The management is the worst you can ever deal with. Jeff Harrison is way too far from being the honourable coach he claims to be! They charging me 90$ bi weekly even though the gym is closed during the lockdown. They claim that they care about their fighters but all they care about is their pocket, because The gym was closed from 26th of December but they charged me 3 payments in less than a month. They stopped replying to my emails after realizing that I was right and they have to refund me the money. The first email I sent, I didn’t get a reply for 8 days but when I told them I’m gonna share my experience on here. They reply less than 30 minutes. And Jeff claimed that he laid off all his staff even though, he had no staff from the beginning other than one coach at each location. The owner of new era Phil Brindle was informed about my situation too but he didn’t offer any help. I asked them to send me my contract to read it over but they haven’t reply. If you looking for good martial art gym I recommend you to go with fight and Fitness on bank st or Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts. I was member with them last year and my experience was flawless! That gym actually care about their members. As for new era I would never recommend them even to my enemy. After not getting back to me and after they checked their reviews, Jeff Harrison finally got back to me to threat me if I don’t take the review down he will transfer my account to the collections and attack my score credit. Please be aware, because last thing you wanna deal with someone like that. Another update, Phil finally got involved but he didn’t really help at all. Basically he’s saying that they will be using their power to force me to take the reviews down by sending my contract to collections. It doesn’t really matter for me paying +1600$ to collections, in fact if that’s the price I’m gonna pay to show you all who those guys actually are, I will happily pay it. Also they blocked me from Facebook so I can’t give them reviews!

The absolute best instructors in all of Ottawa for BJJ and Muay Thai, respectively. I've never seen more people become absolute monsters in a shorter time than under Peter Fazekas and Kru Jeff. Also the fact that they've always had time to "raise all boats" when it comes to students is a real rarity in the fight game. So many other high level competitive schools don't have time to help the hobbyist level students along with their professionals and supernaturally talented students. They always take the time and don't leave people in the dust. Makes me wish that COVID didn't devastate the martial arts scene here and that they still had their gym in Kanata. Highest possible recommendation. I would be training there if I could make the transit regularly.

I joined this gym in November 2021, I'm overweight and wanted to join this gym to get in shape and learn BJJ. As someone who is pretty self conscious I have to say Jeff, Peter and the rest of the team at New Era made me feel welcome right away. The team here really wants to see you achieve your goals, they'll hold you accountable but are always there to encourage you along your journey. I highly recommend New Era, absolutely top notch team.

This business is poorly managed. They do not answer your emails, ignore your complaints, and do not give refunds, even when they say in writing they will. Your money is not safe with New Era Combat Sports.

Best gym in Ottawa for sure! I trained there for a brief four month, but it was the best time of my life, the coaches are amazing at what they do, very humble and welcoming at the same time. I usually go to Camelot location, occasionally to Kanata as well, I have made so many great friends, conditioned my body like never before. I am glad the team in New Era helped me started my martial art journey, I had to move to Vancouver due to personal reason, and will continue to train, but none the less, if you are in Ottawa, New Era is THE ONE! Hope this review helps you make your decision!

They dont clean the place as often as you would hope. The place is over charging for the quality you get since it's not even kru jeff that you will get to learn from. Rob thomas is gone. Instead I dont even think the instructor is a real kru his credentials and attitude are just poor.. yeah sorry way over priced theres just as good quality for cheaper elsewhere. The bjj is basically team renzo gracie since the instructor is a renzo Gracie black belt. The place smells horrible like body odour and need to work on getting some windows or ventilation. Or tell the members to shower and wear deodorant? The gym is very unwelcoming and to many huge egos in one room. I would not suggest signing up here especially if this is your first time at a martial arts gym.

New Era is the only place you should be looking when it comes to martial arts and fitness in Ottawa. Whether you're a professional athlete looking to boost your career in sport, or someone who appreciates training for the fitness benefits and fun, New Era has it all! Even with the massive locations and roster of experienced professionals, Kru Jeff and the instructors at New Era find a way to treat every member like family. Give New Era a try, and you'll have no reason to ever contemplate going anywhere else.

All I can say is WOW!! Jeff has been amazing with me! I talked to him over phone or text for about a year before pulling the trigger and signing up for the 5 week shred program and let me tell you it was worth every penny. Since going I have lost 20lbs and feel much better about myself. The instructor I had at the Merivale location was Dave and he is fantastic! Since reopening I've been training with Mateo and enjoy the different workouts. The community atmosphere at this gym is second to none. So much that I have started bringing my children so they can be surrounded by people who are going to be supportive.

I did No Gi BJJ for 5 months before the Scamdemic lockdowns were enforced. Mateo is a great teacher and a very nice guy! Met some wonderful people there as well. Very pricey however at $190 a month, which eventually made me spread that budget elsewhere. But I do miss it. Nothing like rolling. Thinking of rejoining if I get a raise.

I started training at this gym in August. With help from Kru Jeff I lost 35 lbs. Even tho I'm overweight, they treated me equally and made me feel comfortable which I never really felt at other martial arts gyms. They take the time to make sure you're using proper technique and have lots of patience to teach the beginners.

Kru Jeff is hands down one of the best coaches in Canada. He pushes you to be your best, but he will also repeat something a million times with no frustrations until you get it right. He knows how to use your strength to turn them into weapons, and he knows how to take your weaknesses and improve on them. Facility is super clean, fun, and I truly enjoy going there during the week, not only to get my work out in, but it's just a positive and fun environment to be in. Highly recommend 1 on 1 with Jeff, or for anyone who cannot afford it, they teach awesome classes as well (I have never done one but I trained by myself during one and see how they teach people).

This is an excellent gym for anyone looking to train Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu. Dave and Mateo are attentive instructors and offer insights while you're training that you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. There's great camaraderie here, and both the students and the instructors are lively, encouraging, and respectful.

Muay Thai, BJJ, Boxing, MMA, these gusy got it all. Great coaches who know what they're doing and state of the art facility. Full sized boxing ring and lots of bags really shows how serious they are. I came for a drop in and the coach didn't even want to take my money. "just come on in and see if you like it" I was not dissapointed.

Doesn't matter if you're interested in learning martial arts, competing or just want to sweat, stop what you're doing and go check it out, now. The only gym you'll need!

Kru Jeff and coach Pete are amazing coaches . They helped me so much and put up with my petulant childish behaviours I wasn’t even aware of not in control of my emotions much at all. Of course they’re great parents who love and take the responsibilities of their children . Thank you for the good and time you poured into my cup(vessel) that I was even lucky to have by the graces of the greater powers of the universe. They deserve respect and trust in them they have trained the best there just look at their resume. It was an honour and surreal experience just to train with you guys and professional fighters . Thank you for all you’ve taught me and a merry Christmas , happy Yule brother kin. My journey feels like it has just started . NEVER stop fighting for the cause because your business is so versatile and my personal favourite is the healing with compassion. “It’s easier to raise strong children than to fix broken adults”. -Tyler Low

I believe every man, woman and child should take on combat training at some point in their lives. This gym is a great start or continuation. Coaches are great teachers. Members vary from little kids to seniors, noobs to vets. Over the years I've trained at three different clubs, and this one is by far the best one. I highly recommend everyone to pay them a visit.

My 6 year old grandson just joined this group a few weeks ago. He gets very excited when he has a lesson that night; he trains Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays for an hour. The trainer/owner is very energetic, upbeat and great with kids. She is a master at what she does. Truly talented gal indeed!

This is almost my second home. New Era is a place that has a great atmosphere full of positive and energetic people. Whether you are just recreational, for health/fitness, to lose weight, reduce stress, learn self defense or want to be a fighter you will fit in. Everyone is welcome. Kru Jeff has been my Muay Thai instructor for almost 10 years now, he still has the same passion for this sport all these years later.

I spent hours on the web looking through the different schools of Martial Arts in the area. I tried two other Muay Thai gyms before NECS. I had plans to try some more, but I knew I found the best. This is a place that strives for excellence; great facilities, top-notch instructors and a kick-ass training.

On November 22nd, 2021, I purchased a full-year membership ($1640) to New Era Combat Sports, located in Ottawa, Orleans. Little did I know that this would turn out to be a deeply regrettable choice. I received an email on January 9th, 2022, informing me that their Orleans location was shutting down, just 49 days into my membership. With this unfortunate closure, the organization presented its consumers with two options. First, I could travel to their Nepean location and continue my membership, however this was inconvenient and impractical for those living in Orleans. The second option was to receive a refund. I requested a refund on the same day (Jan 9th, 2022). I tried to be understanding of the challenges businesses faced during the pandemic, however the months stretched on, and I started emailing Jeff Harrison. After multiple back and fourth emails with Jeff Harrison, approx seven months later from the closure of the Orleans location, I received $500, a meager fraction of what I was owed. I requested from the beginning $1500, as I did train at the location for 49 days. With $1000 remaining left of what I was owed, Jeff did promise me he would pay me instalments of the money during the summer of 2022, but unfortunately that did not happen. I am not writing this review to hate on Jeff, in fact I believe he is a good coach and was probably getting hundreds of emails from people in the similar situation as me. I find it unprofessional that the owner of New Era Combat Sport Philip Brindle, did not contact consumers like myself, trying to resolve this issue. Some people may read this review and have faced similar experiences with this organization. As a student, waiting over a year for the rest of my money has been upsetting. To the owner/financial department of the organzation, please contact me via my email and make this right. I did not want to write a publicly about this, however I have been ignored and shut out for over a year with no response.

New Era is the best gym!!!! The staff is absolutely amazing! Friendly, outgoing, and always greeting their members with a smile! My son started training a few months ago and has nothing but positive things to say about the instructors and the other members!! The facilities themselves are top notch!! Would recommend New Era to anyone at any age with whatever goals they have!!
