I love this store so much, but my biggest gripe with it is that the employees are frequently very loud in the back reptile area. I'm all for friendly banter at work, and employees feeling comfortable working, but sometimes it makes it hard to focus and think about what you might need. They are often borderline yelling at one another, which makes it feel like you can't ask questions, or that you're imposing. It feels like there isn't much control over the staff, that they're having a day at the zoo everyday and their last priority is to help the customers. They frequently will just hang out, talk, hold their animals, etc despite customers seeming like they need help. This is extremely frustrating. I also have to wonder if they need 10-15 staff on hands at all times, especially for such a small store. Aside from that, their stock is always fantastic, the employees are friendly when helping you, the variety of live animals is amazing. You can really tell these people care for and love the animals. Do note that their stock is consistently higher priced than other places in the city, but that is likely due to it being a small business. They do carry a lot of stuff you can't find elsewhere, and that's the only reason I keep returning.

For all your critter’s needs they have you covered here! Great knowledgeable staff to serve you well. Whether it’s your cat or dog to your fish or lizard they will help you fulfill your needs. I didn’t see any tarantulas. That would be cool! 😎👍

Very awesome place. The people were so knowledgeable was even able to hold some super cute hand raise white rats in my hands and girbels the first time I came. They have lots of little fish to see and have a huge selection of everything for any pet. Family owned and the workers are so nice. Other location is in Orleans.

Terrible online experience with this store. I went online and the site said they had 47 cans of the cat food I needed. Drove all the way there and there were none on the shelves at all. Clerk looked as well and just said that there online quantities are almost never correct, wow. Unfortunately I had to give them 1 star in order to review as both my online and in store experience was very poor. Hopefully they will try to get better when seeing this review.

BEST PET STORE. No exaggeration there, they've got everything you need and more. Their animals are so well taken care of and have the most beautiful terrariums set up. Their betta fish are actually in tanks instead of cups!! I bought my tarantula here and he is lovely. The staff are certainly knowledgeable, please please come here over petsmart.

This store used to be excellent but this is not the case anymore. Last time I was there, the whole staff seemed to be behind the counter talking amongst themselves playing with a lizard and a rat. Four staff behind the counter and we all were waiting to be served. Once asked to step forward, the cashier actually continued to ignore me. Finally get my order paid for and have to request a receipt that details the items. This is the most expensive store in Ottawa for no apparent reason. You should note that they have raised all the prices without making sure they are changed in the store, so you will be surprised when you actually do go to pay for anything. I always feel like I am bothering the staff as they seem to have better things to do than help customers. The worst service. I will not be going back. That was your last chance Critter Jungle. I think other customers are beginning to see that the complete lack of customer service here is not being corrected by management. Oh well!

I'm changing my 5 star review due to the fact that your staff refused to sell me a fish because I have angle fish. I have a 60 gallon tank and the fish are not aggressive. Still after explaining this to the staff they still refused service. I get it if you want to advise against it but to down right refuse service is unacceptable. I spend a lot of money at your store. Now I will be going else where

EDIT(2020-11-19): Their new policy, allowing bulbs to be exchanged within 30 days, is now meeting the expectations set by other stores. My bulb was exchanged with no further issues and I was generously provided a $25 gift card. I am satisfied with the resolution and Critter Jungle will continue to have my business for essential reptile supplies (good prices on staples, it is the specialty items that I find to be priced highly especially compared to online options). ORIGINAL REVIEW(2 stars): I was sold a defective bulb and refused any refund or exchange. They claimed this was due to their inability to maintain good relationships with their suppliers. Overpriced compared to other stores in town, with poor customer service. Avoid.

This is my all time favourite pet store to go to (I personally shop for cat and reptile products). So many quality food brands to choose from. A huge toy and treat selection as well. Their reptile section is amazing! They have a large selection of both artificial and bio-active habitat decor. The live plant selection is awesome! The staff are extremely knowledgeable on their products and very helpful with answering any questions.

My go too reptile store! Amazingly friendly and knowledgeable staff, great products, fair prices, truly cared for reptiles, rodents and fish. Most locally bred too! I get all my feeders for my snakes and lizards here. Best options Also very wide variety of cat (my blue tongue likes the Rawz pate) and dog foods, toys, accessories, treats.

I love this place for their amazing selection for aquarists. From plants to fish amd everything in between they are just fantastic. I managed to find pom pom crabs here and so many more plant species than PetSmart. My Betta from this location has by far been my favorite fish for both his colour and his personality. They have much more than just aquarium supplies so check them out!

Excellent! Critter Jungle is by far the best animal store in Ottawa. ALL the staff here are completely knowledgeable about the products they sell, and their customer service is top notch. Critter Jungle only stocks quality food, toys, supplies and if you can't find it they will offer to order it for you whenever possible. Locally owned by people in our community that also care about our family pets.

My top aquarium needs store in the west end. The staff are experienced and knowledgeable. The plants are healthy and a good price.

brought my dog in for grooming for the first time and we are so happy. the service was friendly and straight forward. and my dog is actually so happy with her cut she is showing off. i strongly recommend the groomer here.

I would highly advise against purchasing plants from this company, unless you want an issue with snails. I recently bought 2 plants here and am now dealing with removing a dozen snails each day from my aquarium. Response to the owners message: That's great that they are not guaranteed to be snail free. However, this should be something which is relayed to the consumer. This way it is the consumers choice whether they want snails in their aquarium regardless if they are harmless or not. I did not want snails in my aquarium and now as a result of not being informed, I now have a tank of 10-15 snails which I have been removing daily for the past 2 weeks.... It's also great that you support local growers, but what exactly does that have to do with the issue of your company selling a product which polluted my aquarium with snails? Is this a smoke show intended to turn a positive spin into infecting my aquarium with unwanted snails? Does the fact that you offer more selection have anything to do with my snail outbreak other than the plants you sell are the root cause of the issue? Stick to the facts instead of attempting to mislead someone reading this review. The bottom line is your company sold plants, I'm sorry "a wide variety of plants" that were infected with snail eggs to a consumer who did ot want snails.

The best pet store in Ottawa, hands down. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. The animals are well cared for. The staff have replied promptly with in depth answers to any questions that I’ve emailed them with. I just bought my first snake from here and the staff took the time to help me pick out all of the supplies for a bioactive terrarium. When I adopted a puppy last year I also bought all the supplies from here. I have nothing bad to say about Critter Jungle.

I have spent $1000's at this location over the years and normally received great customer service. My opinion of this store changed after I emailed the customer service email more than two weeks ago asking if I could have crickets and other items delivered as I am currently disabled and unable to drive. Never heard back until I followed up this morning. I received a response within minutes telling me to call the store if I want faster service (over two week response time on an email is not acceptable in any industry) . Do not offer an email under customer service information if you do not want people using it. I will never be returning to this store.

Decent place for all pet needs. Food choices and other essentials are plenty and are generally well displayed. Prices seem to be consistent under the circumstances. They have a groomer on site. Haven’t been to their east end location but the Carling location is pretty solid. Prices are for the most part consistent. Some items are over priced as can be expected.

I love this store! They carry a large variety rabbit food, toys, and treats. They even special order larger quantities of the Oxbow food I get. They also carry a lot of wet cat food and toys. I've been going there for almost 7 years now and I've never left disappointed.

Very knowledgeable staff that actually care about their jobs and your problems. One of the few companies where it seems like the staff are actually a family (from what I've seen). Better than any big company pet store, actual quality pet food, actual animal experience.

We've been coming here for years as they are the only place in Ottawa that sells the Harrison's pellets for our budgies. They are also awesome where fish are concerned. A great selection of healthy fish and a wide variety of supplies including lots of driftwood and rocks. I especially appreciated that they took the time to email me months after I inquired about a less common fish as soon as they got them in stock. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Great lil family run shop that has all your needs for home pets and that is including dogs, cats, and tank creatures like amphibians, reptiles and I think some fish too . I buy my flies there for my frogs. Also bought my frogs there and whole terrarium. I get my dogs food there all the time. Its my go to pet store! Love it there

Awesome experience! Connor and the gang (sorry, I didn't get everyone's names) went above and beyond today when I was in a jam. I have a small zoo at home (cats, rats, snakes, and invertebrates), and the crew at Carling were able to help me find everything I needed. I will definitely return here for all my pet supplies. Forget Amazon and the big box stores, and please consider supporting this great LOCAL establishment!

Critter Jungle is a really neat store, it has a wide range of all standard pet products but also a really great selection of items that cater to more unique varieties of animals and vivariums, also they have a great amount of selection right on the shelves and you can essentially get everything you need (including live animals) to create a terrarium for frogs/lizards/snakes/crabs/shrimp/isopods/ants/rodents/birds. They have many specialty food items for all creatures mentioned above. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and there is a good number of staff for the size of the store. This place is a gem! I will be back many times.

This is the best pet store I’ve ever been to and I’m so glad I live so close to here. I have tarantulas and a jumping spider and every single staff member I’ve interacted with has been incredibly knowledgeable. Today I went in for fruit flies and it just so happens the person who helped me bred the fruit flies themselves and had answers to my questions. The staff seem to genuinely enjoy being there and care about the critters.

A family operated business. The owner jeff is just the best… as is his staff. It’s the big difference with big chains such as Pet Smart. They are ultra attentive to your needs, they dote upon my dog and they take the time to give detailed advice. For instance, Jeff helped me cut my pups nails as I am a first time dog owner. I don’t feel judged for being inexperienced in my new journey. He took 20+ minutes to help me choose the perfect harness. Another time I had to go to food basics and I didn’t want to leave the dog outside for safety reasons. Critters jungle kept him 15 minutes while I nipped into the store to grab some essentials. I feel like in tough times we assume that big chains will save us money, but at the end of the day, prices are roughly the same and I find going to Critter’s jungle is the best option in terms of advice, care and human experience.

Always a fun trip in to see the aquariums and aquatic life. We have lots of cuties from this shop

I can identify with the negative reviews about this store. I have walked through this store in the past just looking around, specifically at the kittens they usually have for sale. I have never bought anything from this store and I don't think that I ever would! Anytime I have been in this store I have noticed like some of these negative reviews have indicated that many of the staff are indeed not friendly, and specifically the short dark haired woman I have found to have an unpleasant attitude. This is typical of the rudeness of this city!

Staff and ownner are super friendly and knowledgeable and even though they've clearly been super busy with phonecalls during this lockdown, the staff still took the time to help us out. I wanted in particular to thank James in the reptile department who went above and beyond in helping me to set up my uromastyx terrarium with proper lighting. Lighting is difficult for me and with my first lizard I wanted it to be perfect. He assisted me by answering my many questions and doing an exchange for me when the first bulb wasn't working properly. James obviously loves his job and is extremely educated in reptile care. Thanks again, team, and I'll be a loyal customer from here on out!

This is my favourite pet store in Ottawa. We bought our bearded dragon here 4 weeks ago and she's so healthy and happy. Wonderful staff, and selection of products and merchandise. James is super knowledgeable about reptiles and amphibians, he's helped us at every step along the way. All the staff care about your pets deeply, and all the tanks are handmade / crafted and all the animals look healthy. I highly recommend going to this petstore, they surpass my expectations.

Very large and well stocked Pet store for a large variety of pets. Very good supply of items (seed, toys, gravel) for different varieties of birds, which is not as common with other pet stores which tend to be smaller in size. Staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Phoned in my request, they gave me friendly and clear instructions on their curbside pickup, and in particular they offered what I needed and not what they thought I might need. Pickup was good, out of there in a minute. A very good experience and will use them as a source again in the future. The phone interaction was also good - they were busy but could help me out with a lot of patience!

I have been to this store many times over many years. I have never had a bad experience and always find the staff happy to help, with lot's of great information. I love the variety of pet food and products offered. Even though I have never had a complaint or an issue, I feel that I would be listened to and taken care of as best as possible. This is a wonderful place to go for friendly advice, pet food and pet supplies. I would also like to say that they did a fabulous job during these difficult COVID times. Thank you for being there ;0)
