One of the most photogenic places in Kanata North A locals favourite walk. The beaver pond is located in Kanata North, in the heart of so called Kanata Lakes area. It forms part of the wetland, hence there are many species of birds, insects and small mammals who live there. It’s also home to some migratory birds like the Canadian geese, you can see them throughout the summer and early fall. The natural path around the Beaver Pond is an easy about 3 KM walk, dog and kids friendly and is nicely maintained. In the fall when the leaves turn red and orange, the area south of the parking lot is a great spot to take stunning photos. Many professional photographers also come here and take outdoor family photos for their clients. There is an actual beaver living in the Beaver Pond, his dam is nestled in the reeds. See if you can spot him next time you visit the Beaver Pond. :)

Beautiful trail. The loop doesn't take very long to do....under an hour. Lots of wildlife. The leaves are in a nice stage of autumn yellows and reds. There are a lot of leaves on the trails. They make for slippery walking but make the trail look so beautiful. I suggest for a little longer walk, do the Kizell Pond loop as well. It is very picturesque and nature at its finest. There are several areas with benches along the way, to just sit, relax, and enjoy the views.

Such a beautiful path for a walk in nature in a residential area. It took me 30 minutes or so to walk around the pond with my dog. It's an easy trail and anybody can do it. The area is dog friendly. If you're looking for a nice area for a nature walk, beaver pond is must visit.

Awesome short (1-1.5h) trail. I did it in June. If you like a short walk in nature, to see birds, squirrels, chippies and, if you are lucky enough (I was), a beaver - this trail is for you. Good to walk with your family, guests, dog, or alone. After a rain, some parts of the trail can get a bit muddy, but not too much. There are plenty of wild raspberry bushes, benches (view spots), and flowers along the path. It is always fun to feed geese (bring with you some bread leftovers), but some of them can bite a bit (just don't provoke them). Overall, my warmest recommendations πŸ˜‰

Beautiful loop around the pond (2,5km exactly) for running and walking. In winter, there is a 430m skating rink and a few hockey ice of decent size in the middle. Seems entirely maintained by users. Ice is surprisingly nice and flat !!!

Beautiful place for a walk or bike ride, I only hope the developers keep it as it is and do not year it down to make houses or "city" parks. Just leave it alone.

Nice tranquil walking trail within the suburb. Parking is easy to find on residential streets. Remember where you parked though, because there are several entry paths and it's easy to lose your car.

Lovely place for a walk, good little walking trail. It is kind of stroller friendly but there was a small part where it wasn’t, i went down a very rocky hill but otherwise I had my jogging stroller and it did the job.

Great walk for the family. Takes about 30 minutes at an average pace. Easy to walk with kids. A bit confusing when you come out on to a road at the halfway point but you'll find the trail again. I wouldn't go near here in spring though since it's a pond/swamp and I'm sure the mosquitoes would eat you alive! Lots of construction going on near the trail when we walked it (new housing I'm guessing?).

Amazing trail so many different lookout places to see the pond and neighbouring bird varieties..perfect for a Sunday walk

Nice path if I don't think about how amazing it was before the developer "accidentally" destroyed a big chunk of the forest and the city let them get away with it but sad to see when I remember how it used to be... So, don't think about that and just enjoy how lucky we are with forests like this still in our city for now...

Great spot to view the fall colours. The whole trail around the pond is a good length for an afternoon hike. We spotted ducks, the usual forest wildlife, and a few garter snakes hiding in the leaves.

Huge rinks in the winter with campfire pits. Amazing walking paths with great views during the summer. The reviews speak for themselves.

Beautiful place for a walk. A great place to watch the sunset after a date. Might see a few beavers if lucky! πŸ˜„

A wonderful place to walk around, take a seat on one of the many benches, and enjoy wild life, lake, and sun. A couple of years ago we even saw an american bittern that makes incredible sound

This is a not too long hiking trail around the pond. There are some elevations part but mostly flat surfaces. There were no more leaves on trees but I would imagine a lot of shade on this trail during summer as there are many trees. Also, this trail is running along the backyards of many big houses or mansions!

While this is still a very pleasant park, there is much less wildlife and far fewer trails than there were a few years ago before the old growth forest to the north was clear-cut and blasted. Connectivity with the Monk Environmental Forest with its trails on the other side of the clear-cut, has also been lost.

  • 5/5 Mike M. 3 years ago on Google
First time in years where it feels like it is being treated like a place to be enjoyed in the winter. Whoever is tending the surfaces, please keep doing it!

It is a beautiful spot and a nice trail. From a photographing perspective it is beautiful in the fall, not so much in the winter.

Next to the neighborhood in Kanata, it's a quiet, very calming and beautiful place to relax. Easy access for the locals. You can either have a short stroll or simply watch the scenery in front of you.
