The food tastes like some inexperienced cooks attempted a Gordon Ramsey recipe. No shade. They tried. The atmosphere makes me think this place was happening 25 years ago. The salmon was bonafide sushi in the middle. It’s not bad but at half price it still wouldn’t be appealing. There are far better places for your money.
Literally the best food I've had the pleasure of eating. Large portions will leave you stuffed, but the food itself will have you dreaming about it until your next visit here. The steak was to die for!
Made reservations and so glad we did. The food is beyond awesome! The service was great! Honestly you can't go wrong trying Bistro out.
I haven't been here in about 15 years. Wanted to go to celebrate my and my mother in laws birthday's. I had the Orchard Chicken and Creme Brulee. It was fantastic....
We were able to catch an early dinner without a reservation. The food was great! Fresh, simple, but very delicious. best dinner I had in Owensboro.
Our first visit to Famous Bistro was long awaited, and they delivered on being an amazing place to get some high quality Mediterranean-style food. We opted for a seafood centered experience, but the ribeye and the lamb shank looked delicious. I’ll be back for those. We started off with the crab cakes, and I don’t hesitate to say they were the best I’ve had anywhere in the region. I had the swordfish with broccolini, and they served it with a spicy chili oil sauce that complimented it very nicely. My lady had the salmon dijonaise with roasted Brussels sprouts and potatoes. It was amazing. Try your best to save room for dessert. They’re all house made. We opted for the tiramisu, and it was absolutely heavenly. We can’t wait to come back for another experience at Famous Bistro!
We arrived for our reservation and were seated promptly. Our table was ready, including two menus, two appetizer plates, and our silverware all ready at the table for us. To start, we ordered the Spanakopita Bites: Flakey Phyllo Dough stuffed with Spinach, Greens, Leeks, Scallions, Romano, and Feta. The phyllo was flaky and tender and the layers of filling were savory and delicious. A glass of Chimay accompanied this for me, making it a very nice appetizer. The fresh bread was soft and hot as well. For my main course, I selected the Filet Mignon and opted for the Au Poivre. The salt and pepper crust was among the best I've had and was a perfect contrast to the buttery tender filet underneath. Accompanying the filet were roasted potatoes, crispy and delicious, as well as the sautéed Brussels sprouts I substituted in place of the asparagus. While the sprouts were perfectly cooked, the accompanying cooking liquid in the bowl was slightly too salty for my taste. My wife chose the Slow Braised Pork Chop with a Rosemary-Peppercorn Gravy. The chop was thick cut. Abiut two inches to my estimation. Perfrctly cooked and fork tender. The silky gravy was a perfect complement. The Garlic Mashed Potatoes were heavy on the garlic, which was appreciated. She substituted haricot verts in place of the brocollini and was very satisfied. For the dessert, we took a slice of the caramel chocolate brownie a la mode with us to go, as the dinner was too filling to be able to enjoy it before we left. Atmosphere at the restaurant is cozy, the tables are close together, but they do offer an outside dining experience. The quality and presentation of the food lends itself to their "fine dining casual" theme, however the music was just loud enough to be a distraction and was the only complaint we had about our evening. Overall, I'm very happy with our experience and we will return for sure.
This was our first visit, and it will not be our last. This downtown restaurant was excellent in many ways. The menu selection and special were all appealing. I had the pasta carbonara with crake cake, and my wife had the bourbon chicken. Both were delicious. The server was on the ball, friendly, and very helpful. The only downside was that the place is small and has tightly spaced tables and seating. Friday night, this place was packed, and the sign out front read, "reservations only."
