I had terrible experience living at Shankar Prasad Foundation. I worked for four months with Swami Yogaratna Saraswati (age-70) and Shyam Nadkarni (age - between 73 and 76). Only these two stay at Ashram. Unfortunately she is unpopular in Gokarna. The only reason I am writing this review is that it will help others to be wise before they spend their time, energy and money (working for them as employee or volunteering & giving them donations). No doubt Swami Yogaratna is good at teaching Yoga Nidra but she is an expert in using people in the name of 'Karma Yoga'. I am deeply hurt not just because they owe me money, also in the name of Ashram, Satyananda Bihar Yoga School, Religion, Orange clothes, spirituality, astrology and finally God, they have been ethically, morally and professionally manipulating people. My faith and value system has been shaken completely by her. Their bank accounts are not clear. They use onion and garlic in Ashram. She drinks and encourages lot of tea and coffee in the Ashram. She often loose her temper and what she preaches no way matches to her lifestyle. I am not concerned about her lifestyle, but she is using her age & spiritual background (foreigner converting into Sanyasi) and poor animals to get money from people. I questioned all her actions that are completely contradicting Sanyasi lifestyle and the result is she didn't give me the money she owes me. In the name of Ashram, she fulfills her desires. The trustees of the Ashram are for name sake and all decisions, money are handled by her only. None of the visitors visited Ashram second time to stay there. Only reason people go there or associate with her is for her Yoga Nidra Knowledge. I worked for her at Ashram (Bankikodla, Gokarna) from November 2020 to March first week 2021. They asked me do Marketing and PR for their online courses. I did my job and Ashram received more than 11,00,000 INR through swami Yogaratna Saraswati personal account and through Ashram's account in the form of course fee, donations and accommodations. I was promised to pay 30% of fee received for online courses only after excluding marketing expenses. To be honest I donated 30000 worth phone and every month 3000 to Ashram while I was staying there. By end of Feb, there was lot of ambiguity in my roles and responsibilities. I was told to do works that were not part of job, in the name of Karma Yoga, even though she has employees for cleaning and maintenance of Ashram. I took a small break after taking their permission in beginning of March, as Swami Yogaratna Saraswati was also not giving any classes in March and April as she was taking her back treatment in Goa. I asked them to send me a clear document with my roles and responsibilities, to avoid further miscommunication so that I can resume my work. I was constantly in touch with her and Shyam via emails, text and phone calls. They never responded. Then lockdown happened and still I never heard from them about my job. When I constantly followed up for payment of my due salary(comission), April to July. Swami Yogaratna and Shyam Nadkarni conviently made up different stories, and denied to pay me. Now the final one they are saying is that Ashram incurred losses, because of me in the months April to July. This is unethical & unprofessional. The person who preaches giving, love, spirituality and moral living is contradicting her own preachings. I have all the email trails, messages and clear account statements what they owe me. I requested them, to have a third party to help with the decision, they choosen not to. I deeply regret the association with them. On positive note, whatever happens it is for my betterment. I learned a lot from my experience. Finally I want people to be aware and don't get fooled by her appearances.

The Ashram is a very nice and lovely place, surrounded by a beautiful garden. It is clean and well maintained and it is an organic farm as well. The food is very tasty and to have the possibility of enjoying organic fresh food every day is amazing. All the classes are very good, especially the Yoga Nidra ones. I love the way Swami ji is teaching, with humor, patience and in a very clear and understandable way. She is very knowledgeable and inspiring. I will definitely recommend visiting the ashram and if possible to join the Karma Yoga program, is a beautiful experience. My favorite parts of the program are the daily chanting of Mantras and Bhajans and the Havan ceremony that happens every Saturday, very powerful.

A beautiful place to explore authentic yogic teachings. Peaceful community life with nourishing, home grown sattvic food and weekly course schedules around different yogic techniques. The Saturday night havan ceremonies are a real highlight.

A place to find the inner Truth and increase self-honesty. If you are curious about Karma Yoga, Shankar Prasad is the place to go. With Indian staff and Volunteers from all four corners of the world, the small Ashram provides a family like atmosphere wich enables you in only 4 weeks* to go trough a meaningful experience. *(4 weeks minimum stay for Volunteers, Guest can stay less time) The facilities are beautiful, well organized and much in tune with nature and the local culture. You see in the details how this place has been carefully design by the genius of Swami Ji and her team. Swami Ji open mindedness and infinite heart-space work on you both as a catalyst and stirring agent that seeks to bring expansion and depth to your being. The classes offered at the ashram are quite good, Yoga Nidra being the highlight. Swami Yogaratna has been teaching this special Yoga for more than 30 years. She shares her expertise and insights with humor and patience, the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Also cooking classes, massage and ayurvedic treatments are available. For me on of the most cherished aspects of my one month stay at the ashram was to have a daily schedule wich included regular breaks for chanting :-) and each Saturday at 17:30 there is a fire ceremony wich is well worth the travel for, lots of visitors come and join in the Havan (fire ceremony) & Kirtan-singing.

Wonderful Ashram. Would recommend to anyone looking for a ashram which is not commercially minded. Swamiji Yogaratna is an inspiration and wonderful teacher to learn from. My eternal love to Shankar Prasad, Hari Om.

Truly wonderful and memorable experience at the ashram. Lovely place, very well maintained, clean. Great for a quiet retreat, yoga, meditation, long walks, therapeutic, the green environs are healing! Our interactions with Swamiji Yogaratna Saraswati were amazing, a great guru, she is very inspiring. Her story is motivating for young and old alike. Very heart warming person, we were surprised to see her tech savvy, busy in the organic farm, driving her car, working on the computer, caring for animals, conducting yoga and meditation and mantras chanting (both in person and over digital medium), and her expertise about plants and all living beings is heart warming. Very learned, her dedication and love and service is seen and felt throughout the ashram with positive vibes. We had a good family trip, kid friendly. They were responsive to our booking and enquiry emails and helped to organise a great stay. We were able to volunteer at the ashram, do meaningful work, taste the organic farm fresh food, learn from Swamiji, have a peaceful stay and take away memories for a lifetime. Since then we renew our bond with the ashram and keep in touch. Will definitely go back many many times. Having visited many countries and places, this visit stands out as a unique and happy experience, one to cherish forever. Gokarna and the nearby towns are great for beautiful vacations with beaches and rolling hills, waterfalls, sanctuaries, temples and rivers.
