Very good atmosphere and welcoming staff. The menu has a few interesting items and also a few specials on the board. The specials were actually very very good. We tried oysters, lobster and monkfish. Worth a visit ore theatre or just a dinner date. Was full when we were leaving on a Wednesday at 730pm, which is a good sign.

Found this online and it's supposed to be an award restaurant. However we are not impress and definitely overrated. The whole plaice is a total disappointment, dry and tasteless. The Crispy Pork Belly is also on the dry side with a little bit of crispy skin. In general foods is on the bland side and Caesar salad is the only thing we found was good. Maybe we didn't ordered the right foods but can't imagine we will go back again in the near future.

Excellent, excellent, excellent. It was a Tuesday lunch and my friend and I each went for a starter and dessert. Service was prompt, attentive and friendly. Thank you to our servers- you made us feel welcome and 'at home'. The menu was extensive for a lunch menu, and our plates were full on delicious. I had the Potted Crab and my friend, the Tempura courgette flower. Both were excellently prepared by the kitchen- what could have 'average' dishes had been elevated by the care and attention in the preparation. Dessert was the cheese board- this was an absolute highlight- a actual 'board' of cheese brought to us from the wine cellar, from which we chose from a wide range of international and local cheeses. Wonderful. Thanks to all at No.1 Ship street- our lunch at yours was a foodie highlight of our trip to the UK.

Visited as part of a work dinner table of 10, we didn't have to pre order and food came out in good time. Waiter was excellent from taking drinks orders upon arrival to serving food to each person without having to ask what had been ordered each course, nice touch. Food and drink was excellent and cocktails well presented.

What a lovely place to eat and drink. We were taken by our nephew and his fiancé for a wonderful lunch. The food was beautifully fresh and prepared as was the service. The wine, expertly chosen by our nephew was a delight. Thank you so much. Very happy to recommend this lovely place.

We had such a lovely evening at No1 Ship Street. Food, atmosphere, staff, cocktails all wonderful. We had oysters to start followed by a Surf and Turf that was absolutely brilliant. Can’t wait to come back soon!

Lovely restaurant! Great starters & mains, top choice the scallops. Unfortunately disappointed with the dessert - pretty standard

Aside from the best food they served, I also want to share that their Customer Service is the best among the restaurant in the area. The entire customer journey was very pleasant because they ensured the request from each of the us were fulfilled.

The food here is exceptional and the staff looked after us and our new born twins so well which is not always the case with children! Great food menu, great wine menu, not the desserts for us but if you like what they serve they will be outstanding! Highly recommend!

Fabulous intimate setting. The restaurant has a warm luxurious feel about it, with attentive staff and exquisite food. We had the octopus/squid starter, lobster and Wagyu beef mains accompanied by a sensational bottle of Barolo. We’ve been 3 times now and always a great evening out.

Have to change to a more detailed review further down due to a disappointing experience. Previously rated 5/5 with the following: Great British food, pricy but worth it. Nice atmosphere. Seems to have a good wine selection too. Good place to book for a celebratory meal when you're willing to splash out a bit to have something nice. Updated review Aug 2023: Cocktails, corn n oil and pineapple daquirri were really good. Service for drinks and to take food orders was a little slow upstairs but friendly. Once ordered food came in good time. Scallops starter was excellent. Burrata was served with picked tomatos. Interesting idea but isn't better than with just fresh tomatoes, the pickled tomatoes were too soft next to the burrata. Mains weren't good overall. Triple cooked chips where delicious especially with the truffle mayo. However the actual main courses came out differently to what was expected from the menu in a negative way. Lamb shoulder was actually pulled lamb shoulder stuffed into a ramekin and cooked further which lead to it being really very dry. Cockles, courgette and sauce with it were nice enough. Potato cake with it was very nice but main part of the dish was no good. Chicken confit as a main, came with an unexpected broth which completely washed away any sign of confit that the chicken may have had, and despite being in broth and confited the chicken itself was also dry. The menu should better reflect what you'll actually be receiving and unfortunately these unexpected changes seemingly made the dishes worse. Very disappointing overall experience as a result especially for the price, and having better experiences previously.

After 5 years living in Oxford, we finally tried no.1 Ship Street, we went for the set lunch menu on a weekday, and we had a great experience. The food was amazing, and tasty, and the service was great. Will definitely be coming here again.

Delicious full meal. Aside from the nice starters to open with, my main stood out the most. The gnocchi was fluffy and light, paired with melt in your mouth aubergine and a tangy spicy tomato sauce. The other dishes were also perfectly flavored, despite being on the pricier side, the portion sizes really made up for it. Staff were lovely and very friendly to us, and tried to serve us as efficiently as possible even with the busy night. Highly recommended for those who want a fancier night out.

What a lovely find for our lunch today. Fabulous selection of food on offer here. Something for everyone. We were so impressed with this restaurant and will hopefully be back soon. Perfect for lunch or evening dinner.

This is a very nice restaurant in Oxford. I had Mussels and they were very fresh. The lamb shoulder was moist and delicious, a great combo with cockles. The cocktails were good, service was very good and great coffee. Everything was delicious, only disappointment was a limited desert menu and chocolate truffles were not very nice. But everything else really delicious and we would definitely visit again

Poor experience. The food was decent, and wine selection was alright. However, there must have a miscommunication pertaining to sides. We did not want chips, and was informed that since all items were a la carté, we would not have sides. Instead, we were served chips with our lobster, and were unable to have the chips switched to any other sides. A decent evening with great food has been made a tad less great by an instance of miscommunication.

Exquisite food, atmosphere and service. The food can be pricey, so the lunchtime menu trims the costs down quite a bit. My only criticism would be that the lunchtime menu is small, but other than that everything else was brilliant.

We went for a 3 course lunch menu: watercress soup, risotto and Eton mess. The soup was definitely the highlight of the afternoon with balanced favours. One thing to note is that all three meals were way too heavy to eat together. The portions were very generous and probably slightly too big for a 3 course menu. The service was super quick. Would still recommend!

When ordering, the waiter was probably too stressed from the day and didn’t show much patience to us who want to understand more of the menu. Not friendly to tourist who don’t know much of the ingredients used in fine dining. After we’ve ordered, the restaurant was too busy for its small number of servers. There was an extremely long lag between the starter and the main course, during which they didn’t provide us with more bread even after our request. The men’s toilet was skinny and dingy. The rabbit dish from the main was absolutely delicious and beautifully arranged. It’s a wheel of rabbit meat in the outer ring and a center circle of soft potato mixture. The exterior rabbit skin was crispy and delicious. The chard and mushroom perfectly cut the oiliness from the rabbit and the potatoes. Masterfully balanced. The same can’t be said of the two- and three-course. The appetizers are brilliant but the main courses are a farse. Eating the pork snitzel is like chewing rubber and the pork was topped with a measly 5 green beans to cut the oiliness. The other main course is a salad with three nubs of mozzarella, little no substance for a tired and hungry traveler.

I absolutely adore this restaurant. The food is awesome. I had snails for the first time here and it’s amazing. The space and great and the service is awesome. Definitely coming back!

Very cozy space. Food wise… pairing monk fish with beef does not work… Chicken was dry in the Coq au vin… Food feels ‘classic’ and ‘traditional’ but just not solid enough the quality and standard.

An fantastic restaurant in the heart of Oxford. No1. had a great selection of wine, that was easy to match to the food. I would have liked more than the small selection of Vegetarian options. but what was there was done well.

Very tasty food and nice ambience! The waiters were very polite, but the issue is that we waited 45 mins for our mains (we hadn’t ordered starters) and the restaurant wasn’t busy. They didn’t mention the reason for this but we thought it was a long wait for only 2 mains…
