I don’t understand why it’s an emergency room when myself and plenty other people are not being treated as an emergency patient. I’ve been here for 6 hours and it took them 2 hours just to draw my blood. This place is unorganized and needs new management. The front desk staff is decent, however, they need a class on how to engage and talk to patients who are in distress. As I sit in the lobby all I see is the front desk and someone else coming from the back to chit chat and have the nerve to look at people who have a question like they’re crazy. I’ve been here for 6 hours buts it’s more distressed patients that’s been her for 10- 12 hours. This is beyond inconsiderate and ridiculous. This will be my last time attending this medstar hospital. Effective change needs to be rendered.

Went in for a quick surgical procedure at 5:30am. Registration was great, slight wait in surgical waiting room, then into pre-op area. Had to use a wheel chair since knees not working well, which was no problem for nurse. She got me prepped, dressed and in the bed in a friendly manner. Nurse came in, introduced herself and took all vital information. All nurses and doctors involved in my treatment introduced themselves. The best part for me was having India, RN, hold my hand while I went under. Completely calmed me down. Waking up in recovery and having someone sit with you the whole time while you recover was another plus. Second procedure at this hospital, and same experience both times.

My grandfather was in this hospital the last two weeks, i have to say that communication was extremely dissatisfying! My grandmother is a non English speaker, so she always had to call me to translate because whenever she would call the nursing station they hung up on her. I would expect that a big hospital like this would have some type of Translating or language line for Spanish speaking family members. Now, the second thing is that when i called the Nurse on 2E, Charlotte, she always had a nasty attitude, when we only asked for a simple thing as talking to my Grandfather, she always seemed bothered by the request, she always said its a COVID room and i cant keep going in and out of the room. I don't know, i have to see, i have to call you back, 9/10 times we never got a call back, we had to keep calling, one time my grandfather was under her care. and we spoke with him, he was hungry and in pain, i am not sure how frequently he was accessed, but its just unacceptable. I understand that COVID takes a toll on everyone, specially nurses that are caring for patients, but its not fair to us family members as well. We should not be getting so much pushback when requesting information. I do have to say that all the UNIT clerks, and other Nurses were fantastic, they were very resourceful and were able to provide us with his status when we called. My grandparents visit this hospital very often because its the closest one to their neighborhood. I suggest having interpreter lines available, and a more positive view on communicating with families. I appreciate all the work everyone puts in, we are all short staffed, and I understand, but also remember that we are TRUSTING in your staff and facility. Thank you!

I only gave them a one because of the birthing center but if you need life saving care DO NOT COME TO SMHC. Once a I was critically injured in a major car accident and the hospital left me in a cold doorway(in January)on an ambulance stretcher. The doctor tried to say I just had whiplash and told me if I kept crying out in pain she would have me removed from the emergency room. Turns out my back was broken and my pelvis was snapped in two. I didn’t actually get to a trauma center until the next day. The second incident was a seizure that they told my mother I had because I was taking a new street drug. I told them I didn’t use anything but marijuana and benedryl but they were adamant I was on drugs. When they ran a toxicology test and only found weed and benedryl …turns out I have a brain tumor on my pituitary gland and the benedryl lowered my seizure threshold. I came in to get an x-ray on my foot and while I’m waiting in a room full of people(mind you my lawyer has reported the doctor for her response to my injury from the accident) a security guard tries to intimidate me into to following him outside of the treatment area. When I told two duty nurses my complaint wasn’t taken seriously even though other patients had just witnessed the incident. Please just find treatment in other places unless you absolutely cannot find treatment elsewhere.

Hospital full of nurses!!!! ER receptionist was ok but the one who is supposed to be assisting patients was rude. For all the money that went into the overall of this place was a waste in my opinion. You have a great facility but the people employed could care less. Been here 4 hours and have seen nothing but nurses!!! They took a Medstar nurse that walked in less than an hour ago ahead of everyone that was already waiting hours. They have time to order all this food but yet people have to sit and suffer for hours. If I could have given 0 stars I would have.

I waited for 8 hours in total just for them to tell me I had a concussion. I do not know whether they were busy or not, but I only saw the doctor twice. Both times were only for a minute. No one came to check on me while waiting in the room for 2 hours for the doctor to look at the CT scans. Communication and patient care needs to be improved. During my waiting in an exam room, I asked a nurse, who was in the hallway, where the bathroom was and she gave me an attitude when answering. Another issue was, my husband waited for me in the waiting room to be called for 5 hours. A shift change for the security guard changed and he proceeded to come to everyone and say due to COVID only the person waiting to be seen can be in the waiting area. My husband was in that waiting room with me for 5 hours already... That security guard proceeded to not wear his mask and enforce rules he did not follow himself. On the brightside, the registration desk was the only attentive staff at your hospital. I have never waited that long to be seen, spoke to, or even provided care in my life.

I wish I could rate this place with 0 stars. This is one of the most horribly organized, poor communicating, dysfunctional "emergency" centers in the area. I brought my mom here at 8:00 pm on a Monday evening after she was experiencing dizziness, nausea, & vomiting for 2 days. We got her signed in and saw 3 different people to do basic tasks of an EKG, triage, & then blood work. All of this could've been done at one time, speeding up the process. After being called back 3 different times, we just had to return to the waiting area which is full with at least 30 other people and sat here until 2:30 am with no update, no one letting us know her results, or even sharing with us why the wait time was so long. People who came in after us were seen and released before us and no one could explain why we were not being seen. I went to ask the nurse on duty why my mom hadn't been seen yet and to see if we could just have someone tell her what the results of her blood test were. But all we were told was that we'd have to wait for a bed to open. No one could tell us how long the wait would continue to be. We are currently still waiting! I am extremely disappointed in the process here and something needs to change!

This hospital is worse than greater southeast. The nurses and staff are rude and have no bedside manner. Well the nurses I have encountered. I don't know where great customer service and actually caring about your patients got lost but this is unexceptable and this hospital needs to be shut down. They need to do a special in hospitals snd how they clean. My mom got admitted and it took two days to get a hospital bed , they left her in ER until I walked in with scrubs and they moved her to a room. Her room was nasty looking it was blood on the doors, they had extra toilet seats in the bathroom , everytime she ate her trays was left in there all day. They stated they ran out of hospital gowns when in fact the nurse was just too damn lazy to go get one. Fyi responding to the messages and not changing the action of the hospital is pointless. Please let me know how does this happen?Georgetown, Sibley, Innova , Fairfax and John Hopkins would never. I will never in life bring my parents to this hospital ever again. It took her 3 hours to get discharged because the nurse went missing.

My mother went in an ambulance to this hospital because she fell, she is 86 years old and have other underline conditions. They bought her out there to the waiting area where I was and said there were no beds available We sat for almost three hours .. I ask for charge nurse who never came to talk to me. It went from 7 people ahead of her to 9. I was disappointed in this hospital emergency because I thought It had gotten better. It looks really nice but the service is terrible. I told them I was leaving and so did another lady. No one act like they care.So we left

Extremely horrible experience. My wife was transported here yesterday via ambulance and had to wait in the triage area while she was bleeding out on the stretcher for over 5 hours, just to then be sent back to the general waiting area, after which we waited an additional 2 1/2 hours before finally giving up and leaving. There were also many other very sick patients, some of who had arrived there even before we did, who also eventually gave up and left before we did. One person was vomiting/ gagging during the whole 7 1/2 hours we were there, and another who was pregnant was coughing extremely badly the whole time and throwing up for multiple hours as well, after her condition kept worsening. Some of the waiting room staff were also pretty dismissive and just kept giving people the run around getting many people’s hopes up for nothing. We were all being very patient, but something is seriously wrong at this location in terms of management, and they are clearly extremely understaffed. I’m sure this was made much worse by the fact that 4 of the nurses had ironically called out that same day from what we were told (Monday, Oct 31st). Will definitely be contacting the hospital director about all of this, as well as some other sources. Maybe then some changes will finally be made here. Anyone who has an emergency should definitely be aware and strongly consider these things and prepare themselves for this. Might want to consider choosing a different hospital if at all possible, or else risking your loved one potentially ending up in a much worse situation. Just a thought. I will say that much of the staff seemed to be doing what they could, especially the nurses. My wife was also fortunately able to get some assistance from the charge nurse, whom she said was great, and some lab work despite still never being able to actually be seen by a doctor or get a room. I by no means am trying to be negative or not give the staff here that are doing a good job the credit that they deserve, but the buck ultimately stops at management though with these kinds of issues, and some serious changes clearly need to be made at this location as soon as possible.

I passed out and needed stitches on my head. I heard horrible reviews about this hospital so we went to Patient First. They recommended us to go to MedStar since it was a head injury. So we did. I could not stop bleeding with a pounding headache, I was hoping someone would help me soon. After 6-1/2 hours, I was called. Once I'm in, everyone I encountered was very professional and kind. The service itself wasn't bad at all. After I was released, I called them for a question. My goodness, people really need to learn how to speak on the phone with clients. There’s no word to describe their attitude. Please, please, someone, teach them a manner.

We are very happy with the care my sister received during her stay at MedStar Southern Maryland. All staff and doctors were extremely competent and compassionate. There was no wait, the staff was able to identify that my sister needed medical attention right away and quickly took her to the back to be seen. The emergency room was clean and newly renovated, and they had ample staff to meet patients' needs. The nurses are caring and helpful, and the doctors are knowledgeable. All staff check in on patients often and effectively communicate with each other about their patients needs. We couldn't ask for a better experience during this stressful time. We are grateful to all the staff at MedStar Southern Maryland for taking such wonderful care of our loved one.

September 23 - 27 Still at Southern Maryland on 27 hoping to leave this Hospital soon. The first few days started nice until my husband was being release and lab work went downhill fast. The nurse on Tuesday, September 26 the 7a shift to 7p shift constantly told us with an attitude that no stays was provided for the blood work after 12 hours of waiting for status we were told that the blood work had hemotized after being label “stat”. After 12 hours we are told that and the nurse never realized this. This morning September 27 at 441am a rude technician bursted into the room no greeting sat a tray on my husband table proceeded to the other patient to wake him up loudly telling him that is is there to draw blood. She never introduced herself to him and proceeded to my husband to draw and loud again to tell him about drawing his blood. What’s so baffling to me is that I was told 6 hours ago that they drew blood. Where in the world is the blood going. The hospital will not release my husband until the blood is drawn and read by the Doctor. There are so many conflicting reports about this blood draw exercise I would be Writing to no end. Please avoid this hospital at all cost. Drive 20 miles away from this facility to receive kind and proper patient treatment and care. It only takes one bad apple although there are a few great professionals here but they are being worked to death because of the rude and uncaring ones.

It's absolutely ridiculous that I came into the emergency room with an elevated heart rate of 120 and the staff had no sense of urgency to get me with a doctor. 5 hours and I am still waiting to see a doctor and the staff says it can be another 1 to 2 hours before i see a doctor. Make me understand this!!!! This is terrible!!!!! 4. Today 1/6/2023 I received a call following up with me about my concerns. After speaking with Linda, I feel their are people who care about the patients. I think I will give this hospital another try if needed in the future (hopefully not). I pray I stay well. I'm changing my review to a 2, because of Linda. Hope my rating is changed to a 5, with continued follow-up and change. THANK YOU LINDA!!! 3. I was finally seen at approximately 1:15 am after speaking to a supervisor. Thank God for the doctor, I feel like only the supervisor and doctor cared about my well being. I finally left at 6:45 am with the thoughtful verbal and written instructions from the doctor. 2. Update: It is 11:51pm and I still haven't received care after being here for over 10 hours. The nurse keeps telling me you are so close, she told me that at 9pm and I'm still waiting. If I wasn't afraid that I could possibly have a heart attack I would leave. I will never come here ever again. 9:41 pm and I am still in the emergency room. 1. How is it possible that people that came 4 hours after me are being seen? The excuse I'm being given is that they have different circumstances. I guess my heart elevated heart rate of 119 is not important enough.

People waiting over 8 hours to see a doctor is not acceptable. I'll never go there again. It's 5 minutes from my house. Chest pain patients get treated the same as a sprained ankle. They did an EKG but the triage RN didn't look at it. I got no results in 3 hours. I wanted to wait in my car instead of in a crowded waiting room full of sick people during a pandemic but they said they won't call your cell phone. No estimate of when a room will be ready. Medstar won't get another penny from me. I wish I had checked the reviews before I wasted my time.

I wish I could give this horrible disgusting place 0 stars. My husband spent 10 days here after a minor hernia operation that was supposed to be 45 minutes. The nurses are horrible, disrespectful and abusive. He was initially on 2H (a part of the hospital) and during the 10 days he was in the hospital I had to be with him 23 hours a day because the staff is horrible. One of the nurses tried to get into a physical altercation with me. There were other patients that were alone and they were horribly neglected. And I wasn't going to write this review but after our insurance already approved almost 70k worth of payments we cannot get ahold of the billing office to setup a payment plan for our deductible. We have called them and written emails. We requested our doctor please have them call us. We have called the number listed for hours to no avail. Well today we got a threatening letter because our insurance is not paying them fast enough. Don't go to this dysfunctional place. I regret every day to have to deal with such incompetence. 43 million were spent on this place? For what? To treat patients like they are trash and then send us threatening letters when your company doesn't even answer the phone or emails. Eta: Medstar really needs stop harassing patients. We are still being harassed by this company.

During my latest visit (I would NOT have come to this ER if I didn't think I was having a heart attack and this was the closest ER to me), I observed two front desk employees verbally assault and disrespect a patient who was clearly mentally delayed or handicapped. The man had been assaulted by his two siblings and had been waiting for 6 hours. A normal person understands that patients are seen based on emergency priority. Did the man and woman he spoke to explain that to him? No. When the delayed man said, "When am I going to be seen? I've been waiting here for 6 hours," the male employee up front responded, "There are people here who've been waiting a lot longer" in a rude tone and walked off. That is not how you deescalate or speak to patients. Then, he asked a woman employee when he could be seen. She, too, was rude. The delayed said to himself, not to her, "f... it's been hours." The woman, black, hair in a top bun, caramel-skinned, box-shaped, and very hippy yelled loudly at him, saying he wouldn't disrespect her that way, and asked him if he wanted to wait inside or outside. She threatened to kick him out of the ER! He told her that she couldn't kick him out and before he finished his sentence, she said that she could have security escort him out. How disgusting!! What an abuse of power. The delayed man later apologized, to which the woman ignored him. He apologized again. The woman said, "I heard you." Later, at 8 hours, the man asked again, a third time, when he would be seen. This time, the male employee, black, over 6'0, with broad shoulders and lowcut hair, said, "Don't do it, bro," and sucked his teeth. A new patient overheard how rudely the mentally handicapped man was being spoken to and commented on it, saying, "Who speaks to a patient that way?" Agreed. What sort of staff is this ER hiring? If they can't be kind to developmentally delayed people then they shouldn't work in a hospital. Instead of easily and simply explaining the protocol for seeing people, the male employee continued to antagonize the patient until security got involved. You all need to train your staff on de-eacalation tactics and delayed adult sympathy. Also, RN Lynzie F. (Super sweet and polite) drew my blood without first sanitizing the injection site AND she used her bare index finger with injecting me. She had poked a hole through her glove, exposing her and ME to bacterium and countless other infections that can be picked up at a hospital. This is all egregious behavior from your poorly vetted, poorly trained staff.

My wife gave birth to all four of our children in this hospital. We've never had any issues accept this time with our fourth child with the people in the front desk and the security. The security and front desk people during the day are very rude and do not know how to speak to people respectfully. I was given a wristband that allowed me to exit and enter the hospital for as long my wife and child were in the hospital. The bracelet broke off my wrist the second night. I asked the security that night if I was gonna have any issues. They informed me that as long as I had the bracelet on me, I was OK. The next day I walked into the hospital and showed them my bracelet. A security guard came running after me as if I were some criminal. He would not let me speak and kept cutting me off. The front desk people also kept cutting me off. The front desk people would not let me explain what happened to my bracelet. They continue to talk down to me. Eventually, they allowed me to come in with a guest pass. They kept saying to me "you shouldn't have cut it off your wrist". Why would I cut the bracelet off of my wrist when it was allowing me to take care of my wife and infant child who were in the hospital? There's definitely a communication issue within the security and front desk people. The rules alter depending on who is working. The nurses and everything else was excellent. I would have given 5 stars if the front desk and security were respectful and knew how to do their job.

This is the worst hospital I have ever experienced. I would rate it 0 stars if I could. My first experience I arrived to the hospital around 9:30 pm and was in the waiting room until the following morning around 6:30/7. There is absolutely no reason why patients who are arriving longer periods of time after me are getting treated before me. It makes no sense whatsoever. I cannot count on my two hands how many times I've heard them say "you're about to go up" , "it's almost your turn" and the same excuse being given is that there isn't any beds that can accomodate me. There is no reason why my friend arrived at this hospital before 10 pm on 2/21/23 and it is now 3 am 2/22/22 ; they have not been treated whatsoever! Blood was drawn two hours in and continuous holding statements were given. Someone that came after is even leaving now before them but we're told "We don't have any beds to accomodate you." .. It's truly baffling to me that this so called "hOsPitAl" , seems to not care about the patients needs. This is an emergency room that treats emergencies as if they are irrelevant. It's like the entire hospital is on one accord to give the worst experience that could possibly be given. It's as if everyone is in on the joke but the patients that need to be treated. It's honestly ridiculous and I would not recommend this hospital to someone who lives down the street and is about to give birth or feel as if they're about to collapse. No, do not go down the street to this useless Medstar bc you'll be in that waiting room giving birth or collapsing, and this is unexaggerated. You are much better off going to a hospital in DC or even an urgent care maybe , patient first. Not MedStar!

This review is for the dining services that they provided for my wife while she was in labor and delivery/postpartum. We have been here for 4 days, and the doctors and nurses are phenomenal. The dining services on the other hand, are absolutely terrible. In the 4 days that we have been here, we have ordered breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day and they have not gotten a single order correct. They don’t even try. They would send up what appeared to be just a random selection of whatever leftovers they had that day. My wife had a rough day on our last day, so I ordered for my wife a turkey sandwich on white bread, a fruit cup, an apple crisp, and a hot chocolate for lunch… we placed the order at 11:30am. At 2:45pm the delivered a plate that had two pieces of wheat toast with a piece of lettuce on the side… that’s it. I finally called to complain, and they just blamed it on someone in the kitchen being new… come on now. That’s just one of the bad experiences we had. They always took a few hours to deliver the food, and I’m not exaggerating when I say that EVERY order was completely wrong and frankly, the food was cold and nasty most of the time. We asked our nurse about it, and she even said that the dining services are a big reason why this hospital gets a bad reputation. They are absolutely the worst I’ve ever seen. Don’t get me wrong, the labor and delivery nurses and staff are the absolute best and were very accommodating, and based on that, we will most likely return to this hospital if we have any more children because the nurses are so great. This review is strictly talking about the poor dining services.

Emergency room visit. My wife arrived at approximately 9:30 am. It has been 5 hours and she still hasn’t been seen by a doctor. She went to triage and they mixed up her information and identity; which lead her to having her wrist band changed 5 times before they got her information correct. She went back for labs and an ultrasound. They believe that she has a ruptured cyst and a cyst on one of her ovaries. We are still waiting to hear from the radiologist. Half way through our wait, the entire waiting was told that they were at max capacity. However, the waiting room was approximately 75% full. Management and PG County Council Members need to make some serious changes. The sad thing is, I know after reading this all they are going to do is tell me to fill out a survey about my visit that they aren’t going to pay attention to.

My family and I have been waiting for 12+ hours. They’re selective about who can have someone accompany the patient to the room. The customer service is sub par. The security man at the counter in the ER waiting area has an attitude. There’s poor communication from the staff about what’s going on. My relative has had to wait hours for results when she was told the wait would be 45 minutes. We understand longer wait periods due to a number of factors, yet as I mentioned, poor communication. Please do not come here. If you are desperate enough to visit, come prepared to wait a LONG time and deal with an unorganized process.

Terrible experience at this hospital with my father. The care was poor, except one nurse on the 2nd floor, and there was great negligence on the part of the medical staff. Despite symptoms on day 1, they didn't test him for COVID until we asked them to after being in the hospital for 5 days. Turns out, he tested positive for COVID after having been exposed to healthcare workers not working masks and his family. If this wasn't bad enough, they tried to move him into a room with a mentally ill patient that was COVID-free at the time. We didn't feel comfortable so we took him out of the hospital and manually transferred him to another hospital. Extremely disappointed with the treatment and care here.

The wait time is something I can’t explain, I have been here for 7hours in the waiting room, with my mom, before she was able to be place in an exam room. The registration staff was very helpful and friendly to the both of us. Once in the room she is still waiting for hours before anyone came in the room. And we was told they were fully staff.

I can’t say enough how much I appreciated the maternity ward. The nurses there took such good care of myself, my fiancé, and my baby! They kept me encouraged when things got scary and I broke down. They were also very warm and friendly no matter how many times I rang them for help. They continuously checked in on me and were on top of monitoring the health of myself and my baby. I just want them to know that they are truly truly appreciated!

I'm not sure why this facility is receiving such low ratings. I was there for an outpatient procedure with sedation today and can only say positive things - starting with the friendly front desk staff, to the nice woman who checked me in. And all of the nursing staff were outstanding. Very friendly, compassionate, caring and engaging. The doctors were informative and took their time answering questions. From check-in to the recovery room, everyone was friendly, professional and caring. I was very nervous but everyone put me at ease. I could not have had a better experience. Thank you so much!

My 5 yr old son was seen for a Lego stuck in his nostril. We were in and out of MedStar in 30 minutes including registration with Ms. Betty T, billing, triage, and ER with PA McGillvray. All 4 ladies were very nice and professional. They told my son that he was brave and that he was the best patient they had so far that night. The PA took the time to ask him how the Lego got there and ask if he was ever going to do that again? He said, "No!" My son was so grateful to have the Lego out. I was glad to be in and out so quickly. I hope we don't have to do this again, but this was the best experience we could ask for under the circumstances.

I’d like to ask Dr Ed Woo, who is the President of MedStar Medical Group, and Christine Wray, President, MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center and MedStar St. Mary's Hospital, and Senior Vice President, MedStar Health, have any one of you visited “MedStar” Southern Maryland Hospital ER recently? I’m sure they haven’t. So, what is the actual waiting time in your emergency room and do you have enough doctors on site or are you underfunded? We arrived at your emergency room at 9:15pm with my mother who may or may not have a blood clot. We completed all her test around 1:30am and we are waiting for a doctor to see her to determine if she needs to be admitted or released, who knows because it’s now 3:30am and we’re still waiting for a doctor to see her.

Admission and Nurses are rude, impatient, not informative, nor compassion. You wonder why they really got into this field of serving the sick. Bad attitude and disposition. No matter what day you’re having never let your patients be the victim or your issue or problem. The wait is extremely horrible!!! Next time and for anyone else who sees this post please take your loved ones to Fort Washington Hospital or Doctors Hospital better service and the nurses are so much more polite and informative!

The nurse that helped during my delivery, her name was Raven and we loved her soooo much! We also want to thank Shanay and Ethel, some other nurses that helped while I was here!! And S/O to Dr. Barrows who delivered my healthy baby boy! We loved her so much too. We also loved Dr.Mayor. She helped me a lot before and after my delivery and she also did my sons circumcision. The best doctors to ever do it! Everyone that I named provided me and my baby with exceptional care!!! I would highly recommend! And S/O to the 2 ladies that help fix a problem when it came about, but what can you expect nothing is perfect. Everything was handled with grace! Forever Thankful!

As I’m sitting here in the emergency room looking at the signs “it’s how we treat people” should not be used until every individual here go through the Chik fil a customer service training. Employees don’t know how to greet patients and family properly and it seems as if you’re bothering them by just being here. Security guard in the emergency room was more concerned about watching videos on cell phone. He appeared to be very lazy . This hospital has a lot to learn and and a lot to teach its employees. Unfortunately because of my medical emergency this is the closest room to my residence. I did not have a choice to come here. I would never choose to come here because of the terrible customer service that they provide. I strongly suggest that hospital administration spend time in the emergency room and on the patient floors and shadow nurses and doctors to witness first hand delivery of care. Again, how dare this hospital use this slogan, “ this is how we treat patients.”

Our son had a severe allergic reaction that landed us in the emergency room. We were not excited to spend all evening in a 1.5 star rated hospital. As we entered, a physician was explaining to everyone in the waiting room why things were progressing so slowly (the rooms in the main hospital were full with patients which slowed the whole process). We entered triage within the first 30 mins and waited 5ish hours before we were sent to see a nurse and PA....and we were fast tracked. Although the wait was soooo long, every person we interacted with from security, to the front desk, nurses and our PA were so patient, kind, caring and knowledgeable. We felt seen, heard and respected. I can't say that's how we've been made to feel in past experiences at other hospitals. My son's reaction was treated effectively and they made a difficult experience more bearable for him. The wait was 1 star but the quality of care was 4.5.

I wish I could say things had changed for the better in the six months since my last visit. To highlight the positive, all of the staff were professional and very helpful. There seems to be an understaffing problem which leads me to my primary concern. It took too long to get seen and the wait times are horrible. I saw an older woman by herself that had been for ten hours. At one point, I saw her sitting by the exit seemingly wiping tears from her eyes. I could only think about my mother being in that situation and it made me sad. As for my visit, it started good with preliminary tests and then it was six hours before being sent to the back. Another two hours before seeing a doctor. Eventually, we were transferred after a 12 hour visit. I really do appreciate the hard work that the medical staff is doing, especially after the nightmare known as COVID-19. I wish we could have faster emergency service at this hospital. I want to reiterate, I am not blaming the people working there but I think the hospital administration should get them more support.

After a horrible experience involving the quality my wife’s medical care (lack thereof) at this facility they then proceed to delete the negative Google review that she left on here afterward, obviously in an attempt to save face. Pretty sure that’s highly illegal. I recommend only going to this hospital if it’s a level 5 out of 5 emergency and also your ABSOLUTE last resort. If you do, be prepared to have to wait at least 8 or more hours before even being taken to a room to be seen by a doctor (we and many others actually just gave up and left after 7+ hours, including a pregnant lady and a few others that were also never seen, some of whom had been waiting before we even got there). It might not be worth risking the life of your loved one, just something to consider. Until someone actually reports any of their own terrible experiences with them to the local or national news, I think it’s highly unlikely that the upper-level management will ever take any of these reviews seriously and actually care enough to take aggressive action to correct this shameful service. It’s obviously a reflection of MedStar as a whole. Will never be going here or likely any MedStar again until this company has been able to prove that they actually care enough about the lives of their patients to provide more professional and higher-quality medical care. This is extremely sad. With that being said, I still would like to acknowledge all the employees at this facility that did actually care and were trying their best, to be fair. Maybe I’ll at least get some explanation of why my wife’s review was removed from here if nothing else. MedStar needs to be sufficiently held accountable for their questionable way of doing things.

They made an already terrible experience horrific. I came by ambulance to the ER with symptoms of a miscarriage around 12:45 am, I began bleeding heavy at the ER and was told that I had to go in the waiting room because there was no rooms available. The nurse told me she would put in an order to the doctor for pain meds and that sono would come and get me from the waiting room after my blood work came back but if I was saturating through the pads they gave me then let the woman at the desk know so that something could be done. Not even 20 minutes after being in the ER waiting room, I started bleeding through the pads to the point that when I stood up, it ran down my legs into my shoes. I went to the desk and informed them what was happening, and the woman went into the back and brought me 2 large blue pads to sit on. I questioned if they just wanted me to sit in the ER like this, and she nonchalantly said yes. So I sat in the waiting room in labor pain, bleeding through my clothing on this blue pad for everyone in the waiting room to see. After 2 am I asked about the pain meds and was told I could not get anything until I saw a doctor, so I had to continue to sit there having what could best be described as contraction pain and beyond heavy bleeding with no relief or dignity. Around 3/4 am the woman who takes vitals in the ER waiting room came to check mine and asked me "what brings me into the ER today" and I told her that I'm having a miscarriage. She goes to the desk and is whispering with the woman at the desk, and shortly after that, the woman from sonogram comes to get me. She is the only person who showed any concern or compassion about what I was experiencing. I spent more time talking to her and being reassured by her than any other "person" I encountered. She made sure that I had a room to go to once I left and made sure to apologize for my experience there. After going to the room, I was seen pretty quickly by a PA who gave me some tissue to wipe my tears and hurried to give me my discharge papers so I could leave. I had to ask for pants to put on because I had completely soaked through my sweatpants. I would rather die than go back to that hospital.

Visited Labor and Delivery and when I say I will never come back to this location I mean it!! Nurse I had was AMAZING but the doctor was rude and didn't care about me. Nurses pricked me 5 times and after the 5th time of not being successful I needed a break because one nurse hit an artery. Doctor came in and said if they don't get the IV in me there is nothing she could do for me. I also got sent home while my contractions were still 4 to 8 minutes apart because my cervix was still closed instead of observing me especially knowing that I'm high risk and would need a c-section so I won't rupture again. Asked for a new doctor but she was the only doctor and told me if I don't like services I could go to another hospital. Only stayed because I valued my child and I life and my amazing nurse advised me it was best to stay especially with my contractions that close.

Always professional and willing to assist in anyway. From the moment you’re greeted by Lisa to the mammo tech Linda, I was made to feel welcomed and felt seen! Melissa and Katie were both kind and considerate. I would recommend this facility and team!

The medical staff was great with me before during and after my surgery and my care. My wife was in the waiting area during my pre-op, the operation, and post-op. There were some delays during pre-op and discharge. No one was letting her know what was going on. There was no one in the area for her to ask. The surgeon did talk to her after my surgery, but no one else let her know anything.

I don't think I could be any angrier or dissatisfied with the treatment here. 3 days in a row 7 plus hours my girlfriend's screaming in pain begging for somebody to help her. She was released that fire two days give us prescription for ibuprofen. They called to send it to ask results from her blood work and she needed to come back in possible sepsis. Of course we came straight back we've been sitting here with her screaming and riding in pain begging for someone to help her when they called her told her to come back why does she have to wait another 8 to 10 hours when she was asked to come back. I definitely would not so much to give this one star if I didn't have to at least give one to be able to write a review. Go to the veterinary clinic down the street before you come here. Or Google it be better off googling it than you would come here I'm about to call an ambulance to come pick her up from here and take her somewhere else. And there's no need to send back the candy response you know the number or link that I can call or contact to talk to somebody about this is there's no need I have nothing to say that I haven't already said here and in the lobby. If something happens to her based on something time sensitive, the wrath of God will look like mother goose rhymes. I promise!

This hospital needs to get better at a lot of things. It hurts my heart to see all these people hurting, in pain, and no one is giving any updates on why there’s a long delay, no one really seems to care in certain ways. The bathrooms are freaking trifling. It’s really sad. I watched so many people get up and leave. 3 Stars because I know it’s not all the staff. However it’s a team. This needs to get better!!!!

My insight as the patient caregiver. This was not an ER situation. The first contact upon arrival was a security receptionist, front lobby. She certainly did not offer a welcoming nor friendly demeanor and I felt I was a bother to her. She had her duties to perform checking us in but unfortunately, she left a very bad first impression of this facility. After finishing with her, I had nothing but an exceptional experience with all staff. The areas I was in were very clean, comfortable and welcoming. The patient herself felt at ease, impressed with all staff and very well cared for.

When did triage take 30+ minutes per person? There was one triage nurse who was taking his sweet time with each individual. It took them 2 hour after triage to run 3 minor test for sickness that Patient 1st would have done in 20 mins. I'm never going here again. It wasn't even packed, and they still were SLOW to treat me for anything at all. What a waste of time.

I wrote a review yesterday about how disappointed I was with the service in the ER, but today, I need to tell about the final outcome. My husband and I sat in that ER for 12 hours and the only service he got was an ibuprofen for his pain. Got to the hospital at 10:15pm Tuesday night, a hour after registering, my husband did triage and did an x-ray, that all ended around 11:15. We sat in that cold waiting area from 11:15pm Tuesday night until 7:15am Wednesday morning until they finally called my husband to the back to an examination room, where he said he sat for another hour and a half, and still was told that there was no doctor to read his x-ray that he did at 11:15pm, the night before. By this time, my husband is irritated from sitting all night and still in pain, then he expresses his feelings to a nurse who told him, that if he didn't like what was happening, he could LEAVE! WOWWWW!!! I couldn't believe that a nurse would say that to a sick patient. I truly understand that the hospitals are understaffed and it's frustrating to not only the patients but the staff who are working under these conditions, but there is still a line of professionalism that should be used. I feel really bad that the reputation of this hospital is so bad and it will take a lot of work to prove themselves to the public. But until then, I will NEVER visit this hospital again unless it's a scheduled procedure from my doctor. Let's pray for the entire staff of SOUTHERN MD HOSPITAL because they need it.

This I delivered my daughter in the labor and delivery unit. The nurses and doctors that my husband and I dealt with with professional, helpful, and very understanding. They answered all of our questions as first-time parents, and we could not have made it through our first few nights without them. Definitely would recommend this center to a friend!

I am really not one to do reviews but considering i almost did not go to this hospital because of the reviews, i felt its just fair to share my experience. I went to the ER last Sunday with abdominal pain, and already knew my gallbladder was the culprit. Yes i spend 9+ hours in the ER from the time i walked in until i got to my room. But it was a Sunday and i was in no immediate danger so i understand why others went ahead of me. Anyways, from the moment i went into my room until i left 3 days later i had nothing but Kind encounters and professional staff. They Nurses in specific were PHENOMENAL and so attentive. The surgical team was amazing and even now that i am back home DR. Faught (who is the person who operated on me) is still going above and beyond to help me work through some post op complications that occurred (not triggered by their work but by my body not working the way it should). So if you are on the fence, googling if you should go to this hospital i hope you stumble across my reviews. I know not every experience is the same but i hope its reassuring to know that i had a great experience and hopefully you will to.

The absolute worst. I wouldn’t take my dead dog here. Waited for four hours in the waiting room. Someone even passed out. They just picked her up put her in a wheelchair and had her sitting on the side waiting. She was still in the waiting room when I was discharged. The bathrooms were filthy. I left feeling worst than I did when arrived. I’ve never been treated so poorly. Suprisingly it was the doctors the head doctor at that who was extremely rude and dismissive. I’ve recieved better services at United medical center. I guess having to ride to another hospital to get treated allotted me the time to type all this.

I was at the L&D for a scheduled c-section last month and had a great experience from beginning to end. I was in for 4 days and nurses and doctor were very knowledgeable and caring came in to check on both my son and I multiple times a day. Also wanted to specifically mention nurse Lulu who was awesome along with the cafeteria ladies Julianne or Julia not sure of spelling but she was such sweet lady over the phone and Tonya who went above and beyond to get me my dinner after finding out I was being discharge earlier then expected.

I have no complaint about the hospital. I want to give accolades to Dr. Michael Abramson and his team performing a biopsy on my neck. He was very kind, patient and concerning about my comfort during the procedure. He gets an A++ .

I’m giving this hospital a 1 star review due to the lack of attention that they have for the patients because of the ADULTERY that has been occurring on the premises. How can you be an ethical place when the staff is more concerned about intercourse? This place is a joke. From dialysis to intake they’re all involved. If you have a spouse that works here please keep your eyes open because the staffs legs sure are. They’re all involved. They’re are jokes, goodluck finding a decent person in here.

I am here now. I had to bring my grandson on Wednesday 11/08 we are still in the ER on Friday 11/10. We have been waiting on a bed at another hospital they say everybody is full. This ER staff is HORRIBLE the only people that seems to care is the respiratory team. Today I have NOT seen a dr the PA came in bout 1230 and said they are looking for a bed out of the network about 1:00 she came back and said they found a bed well now it is 6:45p and no on but the respiratory has been in here. The whole time we have been here it has been horrible. We got here Wednesday bout 4pm they did not offer him anything to eat at all. Thursday morning I finally asked the RN can he get some breakfast she goes out the room comes back and said they brought breakfast around 3am so them trays has been sitting there (who brings patients breakfast at 3am then I thought who is here to cook food at that hour). She said lunch will be out bout 11/11:30 it was 10:15ish then. So I wait before I knew it it was 1145 so I had to go buy him something to eat. The doctor did NOT come in his room till 3pm and then one more time before she left stating she was going to come back in a hr to check his breathing and oxygen NEVER seen her again. Now today Friday I have NOT seen a dr. If it was wasn’t for the respiratory lady he would have not even gotten a food tray as she was the one who brought it in every time. She would come in to do his treatments and ask did they bring food the answer was No. She would start his treatment and go get a food tray. Several times she stated they just sitting at the desk. No one emptied his urinal I had to empty it because I simply got tired of looking at it. Ok they did empty it once on Thursday. I thought the hospital in my home town was bad but NOPE I feel different now this is the WORST I have ever seen. And for him to be here for a asthma attack and his oxygen drops when he gets up and walk. They sure do/did not check on him or give any updates. EVS never came in to clean the room the respiratory lady finally put the trash outside the door I’m not sure who changed it but it was emptied and put back in the room. They did not offer us toothbrush, toothpaste or a towel to wash our face or anything. I was on the phone fussing about some of the issues and the nurse asked do you want a toothbrush and toothpaste I answered yes WE would. I could go on and on about this visit but you get the picture. IT WAS HORRIBLE.

I went here the other night with a shoulder injury. I was in so much pain but the doctors and nurse took great care of me. Dr. Anelise was the best and showed true concern as well as Dr. Wilson. I didn’t get the nurse name but she was amazing. I’m just glad that my injury was not as serious as the pain felt, just a strain😅 Thanks again to all of the amazing staff.

I arrived because I needed stitches.l. I got here at 9:50pm. The wait was extremely long. The staff does not share the wait time when you arrive. When you do ask they try to dodge the question. I am not sure if there is not enough doctors or enough rooms. Either way this wait is ridiculous. There will be more losses due to not being seen and waiting for far too long. I have not been here in a while. I was hoping with renovations there was an improvement in care. That was not the cases. This hospital unfortunately continues to disappoint and inadequately serve its community.

8 weeks pregnant had some bleeding that was a bit heavy, thank goodness I was not in significant pain, took 2 hours to get an ultrasound which thankfully looked good. After the fourth hour I still was waiting on a doctor and a lab technician to draw blood and then wait for the results so the doc to review. I left without seeing the doc or lab technician because I have work tomorrow and have not ate yet which just would have caused me more stress waiting around. I blame the educational systems and our state government for not ensuring our essential workers are there and ready to work. Will not be going back EVER.

The parking was my issue. The lot out front was so full I was lucky to have a person pull out so I could pull in a space. When I came to get my car someone in a hospital gown was parked next to me. Shouldn't employees park on the back side of the building? More parking spaces are needed and more handicapped spaces are needed!

Let’s start with a quote from their own website. We achieve quality, safety, wellness, and patient satisfaction through a spirit of patient-centered services that connect us to the community we serve. Ok we arrived via ambulance at 4pm. Its now 12 and a half hours later and we are supposedly still waiting for a room. But what’s worst than waiting is waiting while not knowing what’s happening. My recap as a patient advocate, you got my signature (yep we will be billing for every little thing) before she was even off the ambo’s stretcher. I shared with a dr, an hour later she comes back. Then 3 hours later guess what I meet another dr. We go for every kind of scan known to man (more money) and now we sit again. Ohhh but it gets so much better. I meet yet a third dr (Siegel, I may have spelled that wrong and I apologize) she gave us hope. We were told there are rooms available and we are waiting on them to be cleaned. Two hours later….(in my Spongebob narrator voice) I can’t take it any more. Behind the curtain I unfortunately get to hear the nurse's conversations about African american historical inventions, HOA’s and just annoying laughter. One was even shopping online for furniture as I asked for water. The part that frustrates me the most is the way you are responded to when you ask for help. Babs comes across a a know it all with a flippant demeanor. She told me that my room needed to be signed off by a different doctor. What is the disconnect? Why is it called health CARE? It’s kinda feels like health I really don’t care, maybe my first year I did. How can this place stand behind…. We achieve quality, safety, wellness, and patient satisfaction through a spirit of patient-centered services that connect us to the community we serve.

I try to have compassion for staff and whatever they go through…..with that being said it’s very hard at this hospital ‘s emergency room. The wait is unapologetically long. The front desk does little to field questions and all act as if they know absolutely nothing. They give very little compassion to younger people or elderly. Instead of trying to assuage a problem they are quick to argue and if not argue then just give the deer in the headlights look. In order to get any type of response you actually have to either get loud, throw a fit, cuss at someone or a combination of the three. Again, I do not understand all that they have to go through especially as the day leads to night but rest assured I will not allow this hospital to treat myself or my relatives again. It appears the only way I can post this is if I give at least 1 star……trust that they DO NOT deserve that star!
