My journey started with the 30 day free trial... 2.5 years later this gym helped me become stronger, confident and happier. Its daunting taking the first step but the coaches, staff and other members put you at ease and welcome you into a community where they are genuinely interested in developing and guiding your MMA journey (be that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai or MMA). For me, I chose to train BJJ and i continue to train because of our coaches, their knowledge, experience and patience are incredible. If you are going to trust someone... trust these guys!

After trying out a couple of other gyms in the Liverpool area I finally found The MMA academy and I haven't looked back since. From the moment I walked through the door everyone was welcoming and helpful. As someone who was completely clueless and nervous about training in martial arts the MMA academy offered me the perfect safe environment to learn and gain confidence in their Foundation and women's only classes (with both male and female coaches). Because of their support and encouragement I now train regularly in the 101 and 201 classes, the coaches and the other students are very approachable and regularly go out of there way to help me out or show me a technique for the 10th time!! Because of the wonderful people of the MMA academy I have found a new love for martial arts, I'm healthier and couldn't be further from the nervous girl who walked through the gym door almost 12 months ago! Highly recommended!

Friendly and welcoming environment for people of all backgrounds, shapes and sizes! But definitely a place where you can sweat and push yourself to the limit as well. I forgot my silver chain near the mat yesterday. I came back today and found it right where I left it. That says a lot.

Completely crazy about training in this place, great staff, friendly students. Everyone give their best. You won't lack motivation here. Once you love it, you want to come here every single day. Contract conditions are a bit unclear so ask, ask, ask before you sign anything. All in all, strongly recommend.

Still waiting for miss payment and no one seems to want to email back. The tutoring itself if fine, really good actually. But when you no longer want to be a member they have no sense of urgency to reply or deal with issues. I emailed to cancel in Feb, re emailed when another payment came out, they claimed not to have this Feb email so I forwarded it proving I had sent it. They cancelled from there on no problems however, I still haven't received back payment for the month owed and no one wants to reply or deal with it. Out of 50 sessions I paid for I partook in 17 and there was no option to catch up even though I explained I didn't want to sign up (which is a hefty Β£100 joining fee) because I work a lot and wouldn't be able to stick to 2 sessions. The guy assured me I'd be able to make up the hours if this happened but when it actually came down to it I couldn't.

Trained here for 10 years and after training in a few other places before here can definitely say it was the best place I've trained. No egos. Caters for everyone including women only classes kids classes etc. Caters for all levels so those who have never done a combat sport of any type won't be thrown in with the pros or more experienced members. You can then pass through grading to move up into more experienced classes. This isn't at an extra cost unlike some other places so when you're ready they will move you up. Top quality coaches with years of experience at the highest level. Moved into a new facility a couple of years ago which gives you everything you need including a gym. Couldn't recommend it enough. As with any gym though you need to find the right fit for you. Theres a 2 week free trial with no obligation to join after where you can go to as many classes as you want and see if you like it. Definitely worth a go if you are thinking about joining somewhere but unsure of where to start.

Great for girls and beginners - Initially had no idea what MMA, Muay Thai or Brazilian Jiu jitsu were, but did the month free trial, planning to quit afterwards and have now trained for over 3 years. Lots of similar gyms are intimidating for girls, but MMA academy has a great girls' programme for both Muay Thai and BJJ, and the mixed classes are welcoming to everyone. The structured beginners programme also makes sure you aren't just thrown into sparring when you've not got a clue what's going on. There is a massive range of people training, from people who just want to lose weight, to hobbyists, to competitors to full time MMA fighters and everyone is willing to help.

Fantastic gym, great atmosphere and very friendly coaches who are willing to go out their way for beginners such as myself. At first I didn't think martial arts would be for me as previous experiences haven't been too good at other gyms however this gym proved me wrong so happy I found it !!

Just a short preface: I am an overweight, lazy dude in very bad shape. As a beginner I signed on to the beginners BJJ course and have completed about 3-4 weeks with two sessions per week. The staff and trainers have been incredibly supportive in helping me learn and get fitter, with the instructors taking the time to work with me carefully on posture, form and technique. The work is hard and I've left every session drenched in sweat and feeling the better for it. All of the other students I've trained with have been friendly and hard working, the atmosphere in classes is respectful and driven leaving me with no cause for complaint at all. I could not recommend the beginners program higher, especially for people like me who are on the unfit end of the spectrum and need some direction in working on their health and fitness. In the space of 3-4 weeks I'm down a stone in weight and feel better than I have in years. Give it a try, you may find you love it.

In my opinion the MMA academy is the perfect venue to learn the sport at any level of competition. Be it as a rookie or experienced fighter the classes are tailored to suit the needs of the individual. The coaches are driven and have great expertise in the sport so you'll know you're in the best of environments to learn and improve as a fighter whilst enjoying yourself.

Honoured to be able to train here. Great facility and the level of training, top class. Very friendly environment and everyone is focused on improving. Breeding ground for excellence stems from head coach Jason Tan. Wealth of knowledge and experience in MMA and BJJ. If you're in the area. Get there.

Just started the foundation program. I met a member of the team called David. Great bloke showed me around and broke down the membership options and free trial. Looking forward to getting started they have amazing facilities and they genuinely care for people’s progression.

Best place in Liverpool to learn as a beginner, or to advance as a professional. Everything you need is under one roof. The coaches are brilliant at developing you regardless of your goals.

After years of 'um'ing and 'ar'ing, I bit the bullet and decided to start training in a combat sport. I joined The MMA Academy off a recommendation last October and training here has become a part of my routine. The coaches are passionate, dedicated, and actively compete in their sports. I'm pushed hard in every session, and I'm surrounded by a friendly and diverse group of people. The classes are well structured, and cater to all levels - I started off as a complete novice. I highly recommend this gym to anybody considering it - 10/10!

Recently became a member here since moving to the city. The facility is class and so is the coaching I highly recommend this place to anyone even if you’ve never done any combat training before you can learn in the foundation classes and go from there.

Great atmosphere and set-up. I’ve been training here for over a year and really enjoy it. I get trained by David Gilles and I can’t recommend him enough: loads of patience, knowledge and overall top guy. I’ve introduced a friend recently who thinks the same and joined. Simply put - the time invested here has had a huge benefit to my life. I leave the gym (everytime) feeling amazing! - what more can you ask for.

Was supposed to have an induction here, waited a reasonable time for my trainer to show up with no information that they were running late, took them an additional half an hour to get in touch with me to blame me for wasting their time when they were the one who was late. Highly unprofessional and rude, wasted an hour of my time and money in travel expenses. Hardly setting a good first impression to show that they value their clients. Would not recommend

I've got to admit, I love a feee trial. I'll try almost anything if it's free. With that in mind, I'd been flirting with the idea of taking up MIxed Martial Arts for a while so thought I'd start with the MMA Academy's 30 day free trial then leave to sample a few other Liverpool gyms. Upon walking through the door that idea went out the window. I instantly knew this was the place for me. It just had that family "feel" to it. I signed up for 6 months on top of my free trial and threw myself into the foundation programme. During this time I broke my hand, and needed 6 weeks rest. This was no problem, I was able to get my membership frozen, stopping any payments leaving my account by simply emailing then phoning the head desk. Following my return l quickly progressed through the intro programme, onto the 101 and integrated sparring, up to the 201 sessions and open mat. The coaching at this place is second to none. Personally, I had fight experience previously but I've witnessed complete novices in combat who started after me, progress to levels way beyond where I currently am, such is the level of coaching and the standard of training partner on offer. The biggest thing I have noticed though, is that family atmosphere I mentioned earlier. The whole gym is so welcoming. There are people from all walks of life. No matter your social background, age, gender, sexuality, colour or creed...everyone is equal and everyone gets on. It's been just over 4 years since I signed up. I've been right through the membership process, from mainly night time classes with keep-fitters to the lunchtime classes with office workers squeezing one in on their lunch break. I now find myself right the way through the ranks on the fight team, grinding out early morning sessions with the pros. I'm addicted to the place, I have to stop myself from going 7 days a week as I need a rest day but don't wanna take it. Best decision of my life. I'm so happy I'm addicted to free trials ;-)

Trained at this place for nearly as long as it's been open. My 7 and 4 year old started training here this year. Brazilian jiu jitsu. As of today we have an actively competitive black belt. 5 brown belts who hold various respected titles including nagas, the euros, British and English as well as super fights. There's an army of purple belts including a recent London open gold, 24/7 season belt winner and superfight vet. There is a huge girls squad with a solid comp team including a former gb squad judo black belt. Girls classes coached by active female competitor. Kids classes coached by active competitors, male and female. Solid kids squad including team GB standout. Muay Thai - coached by active fighters, overseen by one of sken's original boys. Never seen a quiet class. Huge girls squad. Very popular kids classes coached by fighters. MMA - UFC vet, several TUF vets, current BAMMA lightweight champ, 2 title am champ, full team of active pro & am fighters. Head Coaches - UFC vet, SBG blackbelt & active bjj competitor. Master sken product former British Thai champ. Gym - 2 floors, 3 rooms, bag room, somewhere to push iron stuck on the side. Full timetable. day time classes. Training 7 days a week. Kids and female only classes. Basic, intermediate, advanced, comp and fighter sessions. Private classes available. Great place to train whether you want to compete or just get fit. Very chilled atmosphere, none of the attitude you might expect from an mma gym. All shapes and sizes welcome! See you on the mat πŸ–’ Sorry it took so long to review, just wanted to make sure the gym was legit πŸ˜‰
