This
majestic
building
dates
back
to
the
early
twentieth
century
and
has
an
elegant
facade.
Already
from
a
distance
it
shows
its
grandeur
with
the
central
tower,
seventy
metres
high
and
on
which
you
can
admire
a
clock
with
a
music
box.
At
the
height
of
the
first
floor,
you
can
admire
an
oval
plaster
medallion,
decorated
with
garlands
of
laurel
leaves
and
with
an
inscription
in
tribute
to
the
memory
of
Almeida
Garrett,
writer,
diplomat,
orator,
reformer
of
the
national
theatre
and
pioneer
of
Romanticism
in
Portugal.
A
statue
is
also
dedicated
to
him
right
in
front
of
the
Town
Hall.
In
the
path
I
followed
to
reach
the
building
I
noticed
numerous
other
statues.
In
particular,
I
was
struck
by
that
of
the
“Menina
Nua”
(=
naked
girl)
depicted
sitting,
which
stands
out
with
its
white
colour;
it
is
considered
a
monument
dedicated
to
young
people
and,
in
fact,
is
placed
on
the
“Fontana
della
Giovinezza”.
