The time I spent at Bulbulir Basa Orphanage was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. The orphanage owner, Mithu, is a genuine and high spirited man who pays close attention to make sure everyone is healthy, happy and cared for. His most defining quality is his sense of humor. English is not his first language and this man is absolutely hilarious. The orphans are the sweetest set of kids. They ranged from about 6-10. They go to school everyday and they take their schooling and homework very seriously. I was going into college when I visited and I found their self-restricting study habits admirable. They all spoke 3 languages which was impressive and which they definitely used to their advantage to plot hug-attacks or other cute surprises on whoever was in the room. They are well-behaved and attentive listeners. My heart really goes out for these kids. I had my 19th birthday at this orphanage and I was feeling a bit homesick since it was the first birthday I was spending away from my twin, so I stayed in my room for a bit. The kids made me so many birthday cards and kept sliding them under my door until I came out and played with them. The orphanage itself was a clean and comfortable place. There is a lovely deck where we ate our meals together even during monsoon season, which was beautiful. There is another small deck on the roof of the building and from there you can see the town for miles all around. The food at the orphanage was probably the best month of eating I have ever had. They have live-in cooks who got their chickens, vegetables and other ingredients fresh off the land from village farmers every morning. At one point, we even ate some of the plants from the orphanage's property. All around, this is an excellent orphanage and a fantastic experience. I was only there for a month and it feels like my second home.

My son, Will Dart, volunteered at the orphanage for most of 2010 -2011 as a gap year project between high school and college. He worked closely with the wonderful Director, Prabir Das, helping the boys with school work, making sure they did their homework. Will found the care to be outstanding, the facility very organized but in need of funds. Each boy attends school, is surrounded by the loving care of Prabir and his mother who provides wonderful meals for the boys, and is cared for with funds raised to provide medical needs. Will set up a facebook page, under Kolkata Orphanage if potential donors would like to see more photos and updates. This is a wonderful home for needy boys and donors should be assured that all funds are put to great use.

It was an great experience to be with the kids in January 2018 . I am late to write the review. They are so kind, gentle, obidient , and disciplined that I cannot express in words. And also so well mannered. Me and my husband just got an opportunity to arrange a small lunch for them. They were very happy and by seeing that we were so happy to see that. Please can you help in sharing their birthdays so that at least we can visit them. It's a request if you can share the details

Very well maintained facility for underprivileged boys. It accomodates a maximum of 15 boys at any given point of time. A big thumbs up for the gentleman who runs the organisation. The boys who stays over here are pretty bright and very friendly. Anyone can visit this place and spend time with these kids and have a good time.

My son has spent his 9th birthday with these sweeties. As per him it was his best birthday ever. Thank you so much Mr. Das to give us this opportunity. We will come soon to meet you all. Each and every boy is very talented and very good in behaviour. All my best wishes for their bright future.

My husband and I spent a week there last March (I'm late in writing this review) and fell in love with the boys. We have been making donations to Bulbulir Basa since our daughter visited and spent a month there in 2011. I would encourage anyone to visit, share your time, efforts, and funds. The sweet boys are well worth it!! We were so impressed with the routine and the structure provided for the boys. They have a daily schedule that they all adhere to, it's very impressive! They are well-cared for and in a good environment. Donations are needed for repair of the building; I have posted some photos here. Kudos to Mithu (Prabir) and Amma, his mother, for taking good care of these precious boys. We miss them!!

I stayed a Bulbulir Basa last year in September for one month and now I am back again! This is a wonderful home for the boys, providing for them in every way. I am so happy to be back.. the boys get more and more inquisitive and it is so impressive how much their English and confidence have progressed! Come and visit these boys, play with them and enjoy their endless laughter and good energy! You will add so much to their lives and they will add so much to yours. I am so thankful for my experiences here and will return again and again and again! :D :D
