Dolly's The Tea Shop

Cafe Coffee shop

😠 Dolly’s tea shop sustains just because of its fame from 30 years ago. The cafe is the shabbiest and dirtiest place I have ever seen, its probably a health hazard even to eat at this place. There are spider webs everywhere, boxes stacked near the front door, the tea cups are unclean and has tea stain... People often mention shop, good, Kolkata, years, cafe, flush, Darjeeling,

Dolly’s tea shop sustains just because of its fame from 30 years ago. The cafe is the shabbiest and dirtiest place I have ever seen, its probably a health hazard even to eat at this place. There are spider webs everywhere, boxes stacked near the front door, the tea cups are unclean and has tea stains on the rims. We ordered a fish finger what we received was four pieces of overtly fried strips which had little to no fish inside, I would have preferred giving a zero star if I could. The tea which the cafe was once so famous for was disgusting. The first flush Darjeeling tea was bitter and the milk tea that my sister ordered had a consistency of water and tasted like it was prepared by somebody who has no idea how to boil water.

Great selection of loose leaf Darjeeling teas, particularly in the premium price ranges. Have been buying from here for many years now as a part of any trip to India. Sealed plastic foil packaging keeps the tea fresh for years.

One of the oldest and authentic tea shop, that serves varieties of tea and snacks. It is a very small shop, with limited sitting arrangements. We had the Darjeeling first flush tea, it was pretty good. The service was also very promt. This tea shop was owned by Dolly Roy, wife of veteran politician Sougato Roy. She left this world in April, 2023 and it was her birthday today when we visited. Spotted Sougato Roy there. The price was nominal, for a hot cup of first flush we only paid 100Rs.

We tried the Mango tango ice tea. Well, I thought that we might get the taste of mango pulp or something but they have used the mango squash to give the flavour which I personally did not like it much. It was okayish for me. And I dont think it was worth the money. A bit overpriced I felt. They charged around Rs 150 for one ice tea and that also if the flavours were upto the mark, I wouldn't have complained but I did not like it much.

If you can't stand the heat and humidity, don't visit. But, despite lack of air-con and seating space people visit this place because of its reputation, being the first tea boutique of its kind. However, after being here a few times, I will only recommend their raw tea, especially Darjeeling rea. Milk tea is not good. But, if I am honest, there are plenty of better tea places in Kolkata now, including the roadside shacks, which are my favourite, ambience included. On a good day you might get a good brew here, but at other times, tea is not as good and service is sloppy. Tourists often buy loose tea here, which again, I feel there are way better places to buy loose tea. Overall, this place is currently running on tradition only.

A tiny tea shop that has been there for ages, long before the advent of fancy tea places and cafes. The non milk teas are still great and while the Covid situation does make visiting this place risky, they take some precautions as well. Its generally crowded, but my recent visit does confirm that this place is now pretty dated and needs to revamp instead of keeping 50 year old furniture ;)( a bit of exageration), to stay relevant. Update: 26-Dec-23: place is still inconsistent. Quality of tea is a let down. On a good day, you might get served the perfect cup of Darjeeling tea. On a bad day, the bitterest over brewed cup of tea. Not sure I would visit this place any more

This place is the perfect example of how can someone's obnoxious behavior spoil the whole experience of having a good cup of tea. There is absolutely no warmth/smile/human touch here. The only savior is good old Indian tea. A shame that it gets hidden in the dark shabby corners of the shop and in the staffs attitude. You would have been received more warmly in any cafe in Europe.

This is 30 plus years tea cafe, one of the first of its kind in Kolkata. Tea here was an experience. I went last evening and realised the founder Ms Dolly Roy is no more. No surprise their standards have dropped drastically. I wanted a spot of milk in my tea. Just a spot that I wanted to add myself. But they took back the tea, added loads of milk, made it all white, and gave it back to me. Given the rude behaviour of the store women, i just gulped it down and left.

A tea boutique, one of its kind. People go there not only for different kinds of tea but also to soak in the ambience. I had the good fortune to enter into a conversation with the illustrious owner of this unique tea shop and learnt many things about this beverage. My husband and I had ginger lemon iced tea and then had premium quality Darjeeling tea. The prices are quite high than the regular cafes serving tea; but then, this place is meant for the tea connoisseurs and tea lovers. If you are planning to shop in Dakshinapan and feel like having a cup of hot brewing tea, then you might be interested in this tea boutique. You can buy your favourite tea leaves here and this shop provides an instructional card how to brew that particular tea at home. The sitting arrangement offers both indoor and in the open air.

if you want to buy tea of the highest quality, this is the place to do so. i wouldn't suggest this to people who want to go to a typical cafe. this place is for tea enthusiasts. their iced teas are good as well.

When you reach there you feel getting lost in a tea garden of Eden, all kind of flavours are ready for get your taste buds tantalized for better & smell to make you refreshed with ecstacy if you are a teetotaler. Must recommended.

The staff is awfully behaved. They made my life particularly difficult by not taking gpay...which btw they had access to but insisted on cash. The mango tango was terrible and i couldn't go beyond 2 sips. Threw the rest away

I am sorry to say my experience is bellow expectation about tea. I bought some first flush and muscatel tea to Australia. The first flush smelled like plastic. I didn’t get time to taste in Kolkata. I suggest any tea buyers to taste before they buy

Tea Lover's paradise. The hosts are too nice so you can enjoy a cup of tea along with sharing pleasantries with them. The place has such a charm that you'd want to go there again and again.

the most pathetic and unprofessional place. They really need to work on their professionalism and behaviour. Most importantly the taste, serving Rasna in the name of iced tea/mocktails.

Dolly's Tea Shop Kolkata was our adda space during my days with Tara TV that was based round the corner at Jodhpur Park. She would always find me a seat inside so we could chat. I would convince all my foreign houseguests to pick up the little wooden tea chests in which she would sell her tea as the perfect souvenir of Kolkata. So much nostalgia. Do share your memories of this iconic Kolkata hang out in Dakhinapan.

Dolly's Tea is a unique tea shop and stands apart from any other tea shop in Kolkata. I have been visiting the shop since 2003 with the interval of a couple of years. I must say that in the past 20 years, the quality has remained intact. The staff of the shop and amazingly friendly: then and now. The shop is a good place for the connoisseur of tea. It is the best hang out joint for meeting people and spending hours over their aromatic range of tea. Summer is the best time to try out their cold tea specialities, all of which are awesome. They also sell tea leaves. If you are new and do not know which one to try, they will guide you to select the best that will relax you and assist in unwinding yourself. Among various options, I would recommend corn cheese sandwich and cold orange mint tea. But, keep exploring. It is kid friendly. Parking is available at the Dakhinapan Shopping Complex parking lot. It is closed on a sunday. Happy siping!

It is a mystery how this place is still running inspite of the worst behaved staff and owner. Food is bad. Utensils dirty. Chairs bad. They don't even let you charge your device in emergency. This place should be shut down. Need other cafes at dakshinapan.

Good masala tea but the cold drinks are way too sweet. Service is a bit eclectic. If you are a regular you get royal treatment, everyone else is ignored.

Nice tea shop with good selection of drinks. However, I found the drinks themselves fairly average. The ice teas were overly sweet and the second flush darjeeling tea was good qualiry but overbrewed.

A lovely cafe with outdoor seating. Exquisite tea. Attentive service. Great for chilling after hard-core shopping! I can't say much for the cheese sandwich I ordered, but I would definitely stop again for the tea!

I go there to have the Pink champagne as it is indeed lovely but the employees are reluctant to make it ... the staff are very moody...if they feel you r good enough for them (regulars?/known circle/celeb/foreigner/intellectual??? I don't know what exactly they want)...they will talk to you...otherwise be prepared to be ignored...they were snoring one time I went...inspite of customers in the shop...I don't know the reason for this high handed behavior and this way how will they make regular customers....clueless why the management does nothing about this inspite of the repeated negative reviews. Please do something about this Heritage place...someday please teach these people some manners and hospitality...

😐 Simply come here for the atmosphere and history. Nothing should be eaten here. Cold coffee was a letdown. It was cold water that had been sweetened with a pinch of coffee. The fish kaviraji was satisfactory. Despite the fact that there is a no-smoking sign on the premises, I observed people smoking...
