A very popular South Indian joint serving authentic Udupi style cuisines. The place was crowded. This place has been here for a long time now. Lots of breakfast options and a few rice item and thali is available. The prices were quite reasonable. The service was fast. The staff was polite. Personally being from Udupi, felt the taste was tweaked to suite the locals. This disappointed me to some expect. Still the locals went gaga about the food here. Probably this is because there were not many options here. Overall a descent experience.

Seems to be an old place. Not having a trendy look inside. But great tasty food and good service. A good place for a chitchat with friends over a cup of tea or coffee. They have good filter coffee. The food was tasty and pocket friendly. The ambience was pleasant though it looks old. Good authentic South Indian dishes....

The food's quantity and quality is excellent. A must try if you appreciate authentic South Indian food and drinks. Definitely the best spot to have South Indian cuisine, both on the go and for a lengthy dine.

This place serves best authentic South Indian food. Completely a bliss for Indian Traveller staying in nusa dua area. It's a bit pricey but definitely worth every penny. The staff are so helpful with orders and guide you thoroughly to order what suits you according to your taste.

Rao's Udipi Home is situated near Deshapriya Park, opposite to the Carfill Petrol Pump. It's an old house modified into a Vegetarian South Indian restaurant. It's a cool place to for dining. Taste and quality of the food is very good. Their service is also prompt. Place is clean. They are mainly in South Indian cuisine, various types of Idli, Medu Vada, Dosa, Rava Dosa, Bisebela Bhaat, Rice, etc. I have tried Masala, Dosa, Idli, Butter Idli, Rava Dosa, Lemon Rice, filter coffee, Mysore Pak and Kesari Halwa (Suji Halwa). In addition to normal serving of chutney and sambhar, they replenish the bowls promptly. I have been to this place several times, liked their hospitality. Charges of the items are very economic. Good place to visit with friends, family and kids. βœ”οΈ

I ordered Masala dosa and Filter Coffee. The dosa was good. The coconut chutney and the pudina chutney was okayish and masala was okayish. The dosa was crispy and the sambhar was good. Filter coffee is also good. You can ask for more chutney and sambhar. Ambience is very old. It's a old building. Service is fast. Rating Masala Dosa -3.5/5 Filter coffee -4/5 Ambience -4/5 Overall Experience - 4/5

Budget eatery that's been there for decades, serving quality South Indian food. Service and serving time are worthy of appreciation and quantity of food is also good. Only drawback being the fact that Puri sabji wasn't that tasty. The ambience is peaceful and the decor is like that of a vintage house.

Ok...So it's recommended for all South Indian food lovers. 1.Fast serving and great behaviour of waiters 2.Pocket friendly. 3.FOOD TASTES GOOD..which is the most important thing. Only con can be considered as it's location as some may find it difficult to locate... Don't rely solely on Google Maps, you may get lost. So, ask for directions from shopkeepers in the locality. Otherwise, it's been a great experience.

Since I am addicted to south indian food, I was looking for an authentic south indian restaurant in Kolkata for a very long time. But after visiting Rao' Udupi home I think I can finally stop my search. Food of this place is more or less like TamilNadu's restaurants. Pongal and Dosa was delicious and it is also very cheap. Must visit.

The Udipi Home is a popular south indian food joint located near Deshapriya park crossing. The place is well preserved having a vintage vibe. The service here is good and prompt. The food is of good quality, the taste is good. Portion size is also decent. However, for me the sambar and chutneys could have been better. Overall, the place is really good for pocket friendly south indian food.

You'll love it. Really value for money food. The staff are well behaved and everything you expect. Highly recommended.

Location is very very good. The filter coffee ,I prefer the black extra strong,is very good. Tried the rava dosa and idli they were good too ,what was excellent was the Sambhar not too spicy but flavour full. And of course the servers Bishnu, Sambhu I just hope they have someone called BRAHMA. WELL DONE GUYS.

*Follow kolkata.foodie.dibyajit at Instagram and Zomato for drooling pics and unbiased reviews* Rao's Udipi Home is located at Deshopriyo Park and is an old house which has been modified into a South Indian restaurant keeping the aesthetics intact. This is perhaps one of my favourites in Kolkata when it comes to South Indian breakfasts. If you go during the morning, you will be served with fresh and hot idli, vada, upma, dosha and filter coffee. Price is within budget and the food is too good. The Masala Dosa is big in size, you will be served with 2 types of chutney and one of the brilliantly prepared Sambars. You will get fresh fruit juice and the filter coffee is a must.

Myself being a kannadiga yet to find an authentic South Indian food in Kolkata . My efforts went futile .Dosa or idli or vada or pinapple halwa or the so called filter kapi , nothing is authentic .I would Rate 1/5 .it's economical that's the only thing .Insuggest you to get South Indian cooks .It's in no match to Udupi hotels located in Karnataka or Andhra

Small place probably a renovated garage. Good for South Indian snacks and coffee. We were there at about 4 PM , it was hot and the air conditioning was inadequate. I am told that the al fresco arrangement in the evening is much more appealing.

Authentic South indian food available. Good place to spent quality time

  • 1/5 Arup M. 2 years ago on Google
Visited for the first time to enjoy the authentic South Indian dish, but returned with horrible experience.I have ordered only 2 paper masala dosa. First of all they served the order almost after 40 minutes in spite of having only a handful of customer available at that time in the evening. Secondly they served cold food to us. After that they didn't serve the entire item along with my ordered dishes and when asked to serve simply told that not available and what is available they can serve only that and I have to adjust with that and yes I have to pay full amount with applicable taxes. We were sitting upstairs and they simply serve the food and didn't come back again to ask if we required anything more or not? I had to go downstairs twice to ask them to serve some extra Sambhar or chutney even after waiting for 10 minutes for the waiter to come. The vegetable inside the dosa and the chutney was too salty. The preparation is worst and the serving plates and other utensils are also not cleaned properly or I can say simply dirty particularly at a time when the most of the restaurant are taking extra care keeping in mind the Covid19 pandemic situation. They didn't serve drinking water to the us and seeing their cleanliness status I was simply terrified to ask for that. So after having half eaten dosa we left the horrible udipi home. The so called manager is a least bothered person as far as the services to the customers are concerned, least interested in paying attention towards the customers and their needs. As far as rating is concerned Udipi home is not at all eligible for single star rating but I have to give single star only to post my review. The cost of two paper masala dosa is β‚Ή280/-

Visited early morning at 8:30am. Now opening times 7am to 8pm. Last time I visited my son had food poisoning. This time food was good. Though menu is limited due to lockdown. I believe the best time to visit is early morning, during the day restaurant food doesn't go very good due to the rush. However, will visit again when we get back to the old normal life. Still a lot of items to explore.

Although I was served with a relatively cold coffee first time (which they charged for too), their next cup was precisely done. I tried a couple of Uthappams and they were delicious. The best part about the place is that it's inexpensive compared to the hoard of cafes in the area.

Good place to get the taste of finest South Indian food in South Calcutta. The dosas , Vara , Idlis everything was very well prepared. But lightings were very dull making it a dully lit place thus hampering the overall ambience of the place. Also the manager being South Indian couldn't understand Bengali so there was a miscommunication between the customer and service management. But overall it's indeed the one stop destination for dosa lovers 😍

The only plus point is its location. Serves some good south Indian food. Very popular among the locals who want some good food from southern region. Wears a worn out look. Highly over priced for the fare served.

Morning breakfast with hot steaming idlis and strong filter coffee is amazing...Rava dosa is also very good... The sambhar is very authentic with aromatic flavour...

Very simple and less oily Tamil food available for a reasonable price range. Good service and staffs. Best place for simple and close to authentic Tamil food in kolkata considering the price . They serve 2 really good chutneys too

A neighbourhood eatery that serves typical south Indian fare. Their menu card is small (listing only the Udupi essentials) but service is quick, efficient and hygienic. The food is tasty and certainly authentic, yet non-spicy. The place is very well-known, and has existed at the same location for decades. It still wears the same appearance it was probably created with. A portion of their space is a long verandah with a low tiled roof, giving a warm and welcoming look. The place looks more like a home than a restaurant.

The food is authentic however the customer service is a bit off. They take a long time to serve and packing is not good. However food is excellent . We ordered vada and it was very crispy and perfect with green chutney. Overall it's a very god restaurant with tasty food and reasonable price

This is the best South Indian food available in Kolkata. The fried idli is a must try and onion butter dosa is my favorite one. I have tried some of the sweets and desserts but they are quite average. The food quality according to the cost is very good. Moreover, you will get a good parking space outside the restaurant.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Recently visited this place and trust me, it was worth every penny. The ambiance was great. We had Mutton Chello Kebab. The kebabs were very juicy and tender, I couldn't stop drooling! The egg yolk was runny and just perfect. The rice portion had a nice fresh smell and all together it was magical in...

😐 Simply come here for the atmosphere and history. Nothing should be eaten here. Cold coffee was a letdown. It was cold water that had been sweetened with a pinch of coffee. The fish kaviraji was satisfactory. Despite the fact that there is a no-smoking sign on the premises, I observed people smoking...
