One of the best South Indian food I have ever had in Kolkata . We ordered : 1 . Ghee rawa masala dosa : so crispy so good , masala tastes amazing 2. Dhania rawa sada dosa : very innovative dhania chutney inside dosa 4. Chola batura : less oil and tastes too good . 5 Paper dosa : signature taste and very crispy 6. Ghee onion tomato uttapam : so soft and great taste , Neat and clean , good stuff behaviour , highly recommended restaurant .

Great South Indian restaurant very close to Lake mall in Rashbehari avenue. Authentic south indian taste. Pricing is reasonable for the quality and quantity. Service was satisfactory. Good ambience. Parking has to be in the street itself. Good place to be with family and friends.

Always loved this place, authentic south Indian with a Andhra touch. Never miss filter coffee or dancing coffee. Afternoon time great meals too. Evening time some of the best thing to have is paneer pakora. I am sure you would have had paneer pakora but this place offers it differently. Other than this all there dosa, uthapams are marvellous. I generally prefer plain dosa. There onion chutney is offered on weekends and few weekdays.

Just look at the "Puri Masala". If you are looking totally less spice and less oil Puri which is made by atta, then surely try it. It's really great if you feeling so much hungry 🙂🙏

This is a nice pure vegetarian south Indian food. Filter coffee is their speciality. The Medu Vada we had with coffee was so soft inside and crispy outside. Very authentic in taste. This place is highly recommended.

I have been going to this place may be once a month or once in 2 months for quite a few years. Today I was quite shocked with the experience I had. It was late afternoon, I took my table and ordered my meal. Barely did I start eating when a person came and sat in front of me at the table in which I was seated. I told the boy serving that in that case I will have to stop eating and leave. Then that person got up and occupied the table next to mine and started passing remarks. I ignored the remarks and continued eating. After a very short time, another couple came and sat down in front of me at the same table. I got up washed my hands and asked the boy serving to make my bill. When I went to make the payment, the manager at the cash counter told me that I have not reserved the table and that I have only reserved a seat, so I have to expect strangers to come and sit at the same table. So if a lady is unescorted , this is not the place to dine alone coz if no tables are available, they will make strangers sit with you. Completely no ethnic.

Prema villas is a heritage. It is one of the first and finest South Indian restaurant. The quality has been unbeatable all thorough. The average waiting time even in the peak hours never crosses 8 mins. The taste, quantity and quality rating is a 5 star from my end. With the quality it provides, it doesn't burn a hole in the pocket. It has been my goto for the last 2 decades. My first South Indian delicacy trial happened here. If you have not tried it out yet, please visit.

We ordered a cheese dosa, a plate of idli and cold coffee. The idli was nice and the accompanying chutney exceedingly so, while the sambar left much to be desired. The cold coffee was a big hit. Service was polite, although a tad slow. We appreciated the relaxed pace although that may be less than endearing to other patrons.

Located in lake market, this place is in the bang opposite lane of lake mall, and is only a minute walking distance from the main road. As you enter the place you would be struck with the mixed aroma of freshly brewed filter coffee and the smell of crisp dosas and vadas. A typical south indian menu is served, and the service for both takeaway and dine in is very good...the staffs are well behaved and the food is delicious. Moreover your pocket will be very happy along with your stomach.

This Prema Vilas Hotel is very very oldest one. Since my childhood it is there. The quality of food is very good till now. We had Mini Meals, it's very very limited and the quantity is in measurement, first time I am seeing in South Indian Hotel like this. And also only 2 dishes, Sambar (they say) n one koottu, plain rice n small papad. This much only in this Mini Meals. Tastes good.. In those years it wasn't like this. Morning tiffin I had, no measurement n all... Sufficiently you get Chutney n Sambar... When it's started like this, I don't know.. But the management is the same, they said when I checked with them. Many customers are still coming n having tiffin items in the afternoon also... The seating arrangements are very good, spacious n family can have in another closed room like. Many families, north indians n also old people used to come here n have tiffin. Compare to other South Indian hotel (hardly you have in Kolkata), it's better I believe... Everyone can enjoy with friends and family. 🌹🌺💐

I liked the food and behaviour of the staffs they were really helpful while I asked for their help regarding the menu as I am not much aware of South Indian foods. Yes price is a bit on the higher side but the taste and ambience makes up for it . So yes given a chance will visit again.

Simple clean and hygienic South Indian fare. Promptly served yet warm. The coconut chutney is flavorful and authentic. The sambhar was tasty and delicious. We had Cheese Dhaniya Dosa , vada and Idly- each item was excellent and fresh. A no- nonsense place with seating not a problem too

Excellent food, pretty authentic, filter kaapi was just 👌, but had to deduct one star from atmosphere because the washrooms smelled. A mood killer, honestly. Great service though.

A very old South indian eatery that has traces of my childhood memories. Was pleasantly surprised to see a small makeover that just helps it to stay up to date with the times but not so much that the aura of by gone days is lost. Loved the south Indian dishes, the cola float and the additional north Indian items

So far this is the most authentic South Indian restaurant I have come across in the city. With a very basic ambience and normal service, fantastic food for sure. Must visit place for South Indian cuisine lovers. Pricing is also not high. Aloo bonda is a must try here. I am very regular to this place. Service of the place needs to be little higher.

Love in it! It's really full of Prem and Vilas! I used to get chance to have filter coffee during afternoon. Sometimes I have Dhosa, Vada if accompanied by friend. Food is good, coffee is awsm. Their behavior is too good. Ambience looks like a Coffee House with AC. Don't think twice, just make an entry and ask for a filter coffee at ₹65 as ur 1st exprnce. They will not disappoint u Cheers!

I have been visiting this place for as long as I can remember. It was the first place where I tried South Indian food along with my parents and no matter how many new food joints I visit, this taste can never be replaced. (Both for taste and nostaligia). It is located just opposite to the Lake Mall in an alley. It is a really old restaurant. We ordered: 1. Butter Onion Masala Dosa (filled with aloo and onion served with sambar and coconut chutney) 2. Filter Coffee (you need to do that coffee juggle before you take your first sip to get the maximum taste)

  • 5/5 Kunal M. 2 years ago on Google
The place is as close to an authentic South Indian canteen experience as you would get in Kolkata. And that includes the quality of food that is being served here as well. Very well prepared and hygienic. The staff too are courteous and helpful.

Very average quality of food. Prices are on the higher side. Many more better options are available for South Indian cuisine nearby. Can't recommend. Self discretion advised.

Best south indian food ever. Sambar and white coconut chutney tastes too good.

It was my first visit after a lot of good reviews but my experience wasn't good. Though the food was good the service was too slow and had to look for people to help us. There were cockroaches on our table and on the floor. When pointed out they said that they had sprayed pesticide last night hence we see them. It was bad!! Not visiting again.

We went hoping we'd see a happy sapad spread just like the reviews described but went in to see a rather 'just ok' restaurant with a great legacy... I guess they change to suit the local taste. Hygiene (plates were greasy) and the lighting inside could be better.

April 2022 - While the prices have gone up, the place is on its way down. The place reeked of the smell of a cleaning mop - disinfectants were either not used or used in very small amount. The quality of food has gone down. Recommendation altered to AVOID

One of the best place for South Indian cuisine in Kolkata. Offers a large variety of vegetarian food. The thali or meal is sumptuous and reasonably priced. I recommend this place for people interested in South Indian food

This is my first visit to Prema Vilas since the pandemic and I am highly disappointed. The food is not outstanding like earlier days. The prices have increased without any reason. The service has become pathetic. There is no point to spend 500 bucks for a not-so-good meal prepared by them. Took one masala dosa, where the quantity of the aloo masala was very less. The sambar was not up to marl and also the coconut chutney was bland. The Dahi Vada was okay. The sada vada was again bland. The filter coffee does not make any sense if they are charging 60 bucks per cup. Later, took one plate of chhole bhature which was again average when it comes to taste. Allover, the food quality was average. The service was below average and the restaurant did not even provide napkins on the table. God knows what they are trying provide. All over, the price that they are charging for one dish is not even worth the quality and the taste. I would prefer Rao's Udupi at Deshapriya Park anyday over Prema Vilas or Banana Leaf.

This south indian food joint is present at this location for years now. They serve south indian dishes like Dosa, Idli, Vada, Uttapam in varied forms. Chole bhature, pongal, filter coffee are also there at the menu. The food quality is always standard and fresh throughout the years. The price range is also reseasonble and service is good. The place is easily located, just opposite to Lake Mall.

  • 4/5 Soumi M. 2 years ago on Google
It's a place that was frequented by my grandparents, my parents and now us. The place will give you a old-world feel. There's not much to the decor but nostalgia makes up for it. The food is good. It isn't life changing but for its price it's quite good. And one thing I can vouch for is that sambhar(hope my spelling is fine) dal is one of the best I have ever had. I'd suggest visiting this place at least once if you are in the area and do not want to go to Lake mall.

👍👍 Recently visited this place and trust me, it was worth every penny. The ambiance was great. We had Mutton Chello Kebab. The kebabs were very juicy and tender, I couldn't stop drooling! 😐 Simply come here for the atmosphere and history. Nothing should be eaten here. Cold coffee was a letdown. It was cold water that had been sweetened with a pinch of coffee.
