Who doesn't like greenery! Soothing for the eyes...the place is huge and I don't think one can cover the whole area in a day.. because then you have to walk a lot! As there are no mediums of transport inside the area, one needs to be solely dependent on walking and that could be really tiring .. Not recommending to visit in Summer.. The main attraction for me here is the Great Banayan Tree, which holds the Guinness Book of World Record for being the largest of it's own kind. This place is really beautiful but lacks tourist attractions .. if they could implement/add some tourist attractions like boating, cycling etc ..then this place would definitely become more attractive to the visitors. Pictures are uploaded for better understanding.

One of the largest parks in Kolkata. The Great Banyan tree which has been there for 270 years is the main attraction here. Tickets cost Rs. 30 per head and there is Bike parking nearby which also costs Rs. 30. No plastics are allowed inside and no foods are allowed inside. Use and throw water bottles are not allowed inside. The park is there in a very big area and you can easily get lost in the big space. The Nature Trail is one of the main attractions here. There are many Lotus plants in the lakes and various types of plants which are good for Botanists. The park is maintained by the Ministry of Environment, India.

It's a place you should visit with your friends and loved ones. This place is full of greenery which soothes our eyes. The place is very vast, may be one can't finish walking the whole place in a single day. Monsoon will be best time to visit the place or winter. Locals visit the garden daily for morning walks. This place is a heaven for photography. One can visit the place by taking bus from howrah station. You should carry umbrella with you in the botanical garden. Last but not the least don't throw any kind of garbage here and there in this lovely garden.

It is a awesome place for walking in the lap of nature. Very minimal entry fee (Rs. 10 per person). I went there with family and had a great time. We saw lots of special trees which we cannot see in general. For example, palm tree with branches. There are small lakes and meadows. I recommend this place for visiting with friends and family.

This is a good and cheap place to visit with friends or family for a day out or a picnic. Spring or winter season is best for visiting. You can take food water with you but it doesn't allow plastic or any alcohol or narcotics. There are a variety of trees and flowers throughout the premises. You can also see the Ganga river from here. And lastly the great banyan tree which is 270 years old is a treat to watch.

One of the loveliest and must watch destination of Kolkata (Actually it is located in Howrah). Great Banyan tree is the main attraction of this huge garden. At present the garden needs to be maintained properly and some visitors friendly facilities like toilets, sitting arrangement etc. should be kept in useable condition.

It's a nice experience. The sprawling garden offers various locations for picnic, playing and photo sessions. Garden is moderately maintained. The only problem we faced is washroom worry. Toilets are very filthy and poorly maintained. It needs improvement.

This garden has so much history and potential, but I think its just wasted. The plants and the place is not well maintained except a few. Being a botanical garden, not many species of plants/trees available. No proper toilet, no cafetaria. Its on the banks of Hoogly, but no proper viewing deck. The place is in shambles and in earnest need of renovation.

Botanical garden is a great collection of plants and trees. You can see more than 200yrs old tree there. The best attraction.. This garden is situated beside Ganga and sitting arrangement is still there to feel the vibe of the place. Inside the garden you would be able to see a lake with lotus flower. Roads r quiet shady. Beside that this garden is collection of plants which produce medicines too. Mist visit for children above 10years. Must visit for once in a life for every human being. Thank you.

This is the first time i visited Howrah Botanical Garden. A very nice and peaceful place to visit. People who love nature, they are going to love this place a lot. PS: Ticket price is 10 rupees per person. If someone wants to take pictures with a camera then they need to pay extra for photography (forgot the exact amount) but if someone wants to take pictures with their phone camera, for that there is no extra charges.

It's a nice place. Best time to visit this is monsoon or winter. In the summer you'll feel like that you are in the middle of a desert. But there are really many types of trees. The main attraction is the great banyan tree which is more than 250 years old and is the largest tree in the world. The maps here is a little tricky. You have to see most of the plants from afar. Many places were closed. They should take better care of this plac. A cafeteria is there but we couldn't find it. And there is no good restaurants near either.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Botanical Garden in Howrah, West Bengal, and I must say, it was an enchanting experience from start to finish. The garden's vast expanse is a testament to nature's beauty and human ingenuity coming together harmoniously. Upon entering, I was captivated by the diverse collection of flora that this botanical garden proudly showcases. The meticulously designed layout took me on a journey through various ecosystems, from lush tropical forests to serene water bodies teeming with aquatic plants and wildlife. The well-marked pathways and informative signage made it easy to navigate and understand the significance of each section. The crown jewel of the garden is undoubtedly the iconic Great Banyan Tree. Standing as a living legend, its intricate network of aerial roots and expansive canopy left me in awe. It's a true testament to the wonder of the natural world. I was also impressed by the efforts put into conservation and education. The garden's staff seemed passionate and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions and share insights about the various species housed there. It's heartening to see an institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the importance of biodiversity. The Botanical Garden also serves as a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. As I strolled along the pathways, I felt a sense of tranquility wash over me, surrounded by the lush greenery and soothing sounds of nature. The well-maintained facilities, including seating areas and clean restrooms, added to the overall positive experience. For anyone visiting Howrah or the surrounding areas, the Botanical Garden is an absolute must-see. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a history buff, or simply seeking a serene escape, this garden offers a little something for everyone. I left feeling rejuvenated, inspired, and grateful for the opportunity to explore such a remarkable place. Kudos to the team behind this botanical marvel

Very poor experience. It's totally ruined due to lack of maintenance during and after lockdown. Roads have improved. But all the lakes are full with kachuripana. All museums are closed. No guidance and directions are available. I had to open Google map to follow the road. The details about the great Banyan tree is beyond our reach to read because of the new built fence. Great Lily pond is gone. It's really sad. I visited last week

The Botanical Gardens are open from 8:00-16:00 every day; we took a taxi reach here within half an hour as the distance is very less from Kolkata. And it costs Rs.200 Kolkata one way. Paid Entry Fee of Rs 10 per person and Still Camera Rs 20. It looked more like a Forest than a Botanical Garden. The plants & trees out there had no information on them to know about the significance. Those which had were too old to read. The park is truly enormous and is a wonderful place to spend hours walking the paths and enjoying greenery so near the city. Sadly, it's not on par with any other botanical gardens around the world with regard to maintenance, ease of movement around, and general aesthetic. We see the Great Banyan Tree, largest in the world, (Used to read in books, where the great Banyan Tree, the biggest in the world is, you can't even know which was the original trunk when you sit under it.) and we did enjoy that part. We also enjoyed the beautifully shaded walks around the park. However, some areas were poorly maintained, full of trash and choking weeds or the terrible signage and lack of maps. There was no arrangement of proper security and safety. There was no proper arrangement of toilets. There were no right arrangements of land-markings and route-markings. The highlight of the garden is undoubtedly the Great Banyan Tree, 250 years old and with a network of roots and branches so extensive it looks more like grove than tree at this point -- this alone is worth the ticket price. The garden remains hardly ever crowded, making them among the few places in Calcutta one can enjoy some solitude. There was a Flower garden which hardly any flower. Also Boating can be done there. There are thousands of varieties of plants and trees that you cannot finish seeing in one day. Also you are not allowed to carry any plastic inside nor bottled water.

#Nature Trail A designated hiking trail or footpath with stations or pauses adjacent to sites of natural, technological, or cultural interest is called a "Nature Trail," "Educational Trail," "Nature Path," or "Nature Walk." These could provide details on ecology, mining, flora and fauna, soil science, geology, or cultural history, among other topics. longer paths that connect naturally occurring events that are farther apart. Shivpur Botanical Garden is opening a Nature Trail to soothe the mind with greenery. Dense forests are present. Numerous trees are unknown. Somewhere the trees are so thick that the earth is shaded from the sun. This woodland, which is situated on Howrah territory, features two kilometers of meandering roads. On the lake are bamboo poles. There are bamboo cottages there. Leela Nandan, the secretary, started it. There, she planted trees. Examine the ancient banyan tree. For those who adore the outdoors, it might turn into a major draw. Increasing knowledge is the aim of these routes; occasionally, this is connected to tourism, leisure, or environmental consciousness. The stations frequently offer creative and engaging ways to engage with nature. There are occasionally knowledgeable guides available for guided tours.

A botanical garden is a place which have dedicated collection, cultivation, preservation and display of a wide range of plants labelled with their botanical names. It is established for the purpose of education and research through libraries, herbaria, laboratories, and museums. They sometime also associated with the zoos. The history of Botanic Gardens traced back to the 3000 years ago in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. The Romans were well versed in the medicinal properties of plants. Mummification is the best example of the uses of medicinal properties of the plants.

Whatever name it might have today, i prefer to call it the Botanical gardens. Located in Shibpur, Howrah this place spreads over a 100 acres and has over 10000 species of plants, some of them being very rare. However, the main attraction is the Great Banyan Tree..some say its about 3 centuries old.Once a upon a time this place was frequented by students n regular tourists..now of course there are hardly any footfalls. The price we pay for modernization..The garden could do with some more maintenance with the effort of the state government and NGOs to start with!!

Good for family visits at a slower pace. The days of large family picnics are distant memories but the botanical nurturing by the "keepers" remains steadfast.

A total nature beauty....went there through college excursion....ideal place for students as well as for small tours with family or friends. However, winter is the ideal time to visit or u gonna get boiled in the heat as there are little places with shade...also care should be taken not to throw plastics or other trash anywhere.

Much has been commented upon the trees, plants, herbs and the infrastructure of the place. Today I will talk about the Humans of Howrah Botanical Garden. They deserve a special mention. Right from the guard at the entrance to the gardeners toiling hard after lockdown...to the Group D staff to the Director managing such a vast and important responsibility ..the basic human nature of standing beside a fellow human being in times of crisis..needs to specially lauded and cheered. Such small acts of kindness makes our faith in humanity only stronger. These are not insignificant considering the times we are all passing through. Many many thanks again from the bottom of our heart. Look forward to visiting again and again.
