Average park with less greenery. Spacious place with walking and running track. People came here for daily exercise and morning walk. Excellent location easily accessible through road and public transport. Good for a quick visit. Free parking facility is available for two wheelers. Nearby metro station is GTB nagar.

Coronation Park, on the banks of Yamuna River is one of the most important landmarks in colonial history and it is a shame that the current state is poor. Coronation Park is the site of the coronation of British Monarchs and viceroys and also the site of legendary Delhi Durbars. Delhi Durbars were the meeting of the princes from all states of India and the monarch of UK/ viceroy. The site must have seen some exemplary flair and pomp back in the day, but currently it is just an open ground. The capital city of Delhi got it's existence thanks to the Durbars held at this very place. I was here in March, while visiting Delhi, and came across the park during a visit to a relatives house. The current state was such that it was more of a barren ground where the young played cricket. There is a small memorial and column, but nothing beyond that. There is a lack of information across the board and it is a bit disappointing. I would come back again and hope that the concerned authorities bring more attention to the glory of coronation park rather than just leave it as a barren piece of land.We can say that the foundation of Delhi is laid here. as this is the place where the capital was shifted from Calcutta during the British time. Now even though is it not a famous place, bit still it has got historical importance

A fabulous place to spend time in leisure specifically at evening. A well maintained running 🏃‍♂️ track surrounding the park which is worthy to keep urself fit. The park also has significant Historical importance as the Tower established in the rememberance of King George 5. it is the place where delhi darbar was organized in 1911 during shifting of national capital from Kolkata to Delhi.

Today Saturday 6th Aug 2022 visited coronation park first landed GTB metro station and then picked up one auto costing Rs 70/-. There are s few buses were playing but didnot picked up. This park is found to be recently been renovated with brick walls , children playing area, exercise area, new sitting arrangements , illumination etc. There are several statue of English kings but sadly no much description were found on them except the coronation monument. The lawns were foubd to be cleaned, greenary and good. Visitors may come with foods and spend the time here. Since there are many lights, evening should be preferred time with illumination.

Located off the ring road in north Delhi, Coronation Park is of great historical significance having been the spot where three Durbar's took place, the most famous being the last one in 1911. At this spot, the shifting of the capital of India to Delhi was announced and numerous Indian royalty had come and stayed apart from the British establishment. There is no fee and parking is plentiful but its sad to see this vast green space being maintained by the use of sewage water, leading to formation of salt cakes all over the grass and a peculiar smell which hangs in the air. No name plates remain for the statues of various British Governor-General's of India.

Coronation Park in Delhi offers a pleasant atmosphere with its lush greenery and historical significance. The park's collection of colonial-era statues and memorials adds an educational touch to the visit. However, some visitors might find the park's maintenance lacking in certain areas. Overall, it's a decent spot to enjoy a leisurely stroll and learn about the city's history.

Coronation Park is a park located on Burari Road near Nirankari Sarovar in Delhi, India. The park is sometimes referred to as the Coronation Memorial; it was the venue of the Delhi Durbar of 1877 when Queen Victoria was proclaimed the Empress of India. Later it was used to celebrate the accession of King Edward VII in 1903, and, finally, it was here that the Durbar commemorating the coronation of King George V as Emperor of India took place on 12 December 1911, subsequent to his coronation at Westminster Abbey in June 1911. This last celebration had all the princely states in attendance. The decision to hold the Coronation Durbars in Delhi at the vast open ground at Coronation Park was a move to emphasise the historical significance of Delhi as the former capital of the Mughal Empire. Also, Coronation Park has the largest and tallest statue of King George V. The statue was moved here in the mid-1960s from a site opposite India Gate in the centre of New Delhi. It is opposite the Obelisk called the Coronation Memorial, which commemorates the 1911 Durbar, when George V laid the foundation stone for the new capital city of New Delhi. Delhi was chosen as the site of the park because the city boasted a great historical legacy for such royal activities.  The site was developed as a park and venue to hold the first Durbar, or imperial pageant, in Delhi under the supervision of the British Raj. Durbars were an "invented tradition" to showcase the prowess of the British by perpetuating a tradition of previous Hindu, Muslim and Mughal rulers. Three Durbars were held by the British monarchy during a period of forty years in the park, which was located near the soon to be created New Delhi, just south of Shahjahanbad. The three Durbars were held near a ridge where the British won a great victory during the Indian rebellion of 1857. In addition, the location helped emphasise the grandeur of the British monarchy to the native rulers and the people who attended the Durbars. First Durbar, initiated by Lord Lytton (1831–1891), the then Viceroy of India, was held on 1 January 1877 at the Coronation Park in Delhi to mark the proclamation of Queen Victoria as Empress of India. Lord Lytton conceived the procession in order to represent the British Raj as bringing “order and discipline, which was in (his) ideology part of the whole system of colonial control”. The Durbar was an extravaganza of pomp and ceremony including a parade on a decorated elephant by Lord and Lady Lytton in the presence of nearly 70,000 people. The imperial gathering consisted of royalty from all the provinces of India and the most senior British dignitaries. The second and third Durbars were held at the same location to celebrate the Coronation of British Monarchs. The second Durbar was organised for 1 January 1903 to celebrate the Coronation of King Edward VII. Lord Curzon, the Viceroy and the chief architect of the show, planned meticulously what was considered an extravagant display of pomp and splendour. Lord Curzon converted the drab and dry land of the park into a virtual tented city by establishing huge encampments with colourful tents. In this city of tents there was a variety of infrastructure including water, drainage, sanitation, electricity and rail communications supplied to the venue from different locations in the nearby city. Firework displays, exhibitions and glamorous dances were organised. Special postage stamps were issued on the occasion. Post offices, telegraph and telephone communications were provided. Field Marshal Lord Kitchener, Commander-in-Chief, India (C-in-C, India), organised daily parades, band practice and polo matches. The élite of the world media were present, but the intended Chief Guest, the King-Emperor himself, did not attend the celebrations held in his honour. Instead, His Britannic Majesty was represented by his brother, H.R.H. Field Marshal The Duke of Connaught and Strathearn. The Duke arrived from Bombay with a large contingent of dignitaries.

The Coronation Park with the eponymous iconic pillar and Raj-era statues in north west Delhi’s Burari area, where ‘New Delhi’ was born in 1911, is anything but visitor-friendly. The Coronation Pillar is a monumental obelisk as the third Delhi Durbar was held on this very site, where King George V and Queen Mary were coronated as the emperor and the empress of India on December 12, 1911, and the British monarch had also announced shifting the capital from Calcutta to Delhi. the marble-made grand statues stood stoically amid a mess created by the monsoon rains. To make matters worse, the public were banned entry , who cited “lodging of paramilitary personnel” on the premises as the site sits next to Burari grounds, both owned by DDA,

Good in front but pathways in the back require require maintenance, useful plants and large trees need to be added to enhance the space. Only trees can be found there are keekar. This park need to be made more environment friendly.

This is the place from which King George Vth reinstated Delhi as the capital of India in 1911. His several statutes have been installed here and the space has been developed as recreational activities for kids. It also has a restaurant but not functioning presently. A good place for morning walk for nearby people.

This is the one of the most clean and big park in North Delhi area. Best time to visit in the morning you can join any group for yoga or fitness activities they won't mind you in the group. Ample parking space and lots of trees around.Located off the ring road in north Delhi, Coronation Park is of great historical significance having been the spot where three Durbar's took place, the most famous being the last one in 1911. At the time announced that capital of India shifted to Delhi from Calcutta and numerous Indian royalty had come and stayed apart from the British establishment. There is no fee and parking is plentiful but its sad to see this vast green space being maintained by the use of sewage water, leading to formation of salt cakes all over the grass and a peculiar smell which hangs in the air. No name plates remain for the statues of various British Governor-General's of India.

This place is quite good for jogging and running, every sport activity can be performed with ease as the park is very big. It has a lot of open space, and so youngsters can be seen skating, lying around, jogging and performing other activities. ****Here other activities refers to time spent with their boyfriend, girlfriend. If you think only Central Park has such views you are wrong.... Coronation park has much more broader public performing much bigger activities without hesitation.

A very big and well maintain park with the King George statue in it. Bestcpark of North Delhi for yoga picknic and gatherings of social works.

  • 4/5 Arun R. 6 years ago on Google
This park could be nice, if it were maintained , the place gives an impression of desolation, disuse and neglect. The park is dusty and poorly maintained with unused Interpretation Centre due to lack of Water supply to the Park. In spite of poor maintained lots of people come for morning and evening walk. There are statues but there is no description and statues look damaged, and there is a memorial at the place of Delhi Durbar.. It a bad case of our neglect of history and heritage, there are no maintenance.. There are wide area where are many trees, here u can take beautiful pic and it's good place for photography and walking.. There are big space for parking, it's free.. It's a good place for love bird's 😛😜

The close to nature experience in mid of concrete jungle can help your soul to heal. A good place for family for morning and evening walk. Avoid the place in afternoon as it would be captured by love birds.

  • 4/5 Rahul K. 2 years ago on Google
Clean space for walking..u can watch peacocks also...open gym for all and a wonderful amusement park for kids..It got closed at 7 pm. It got opened in morning and evening. The only thing negative about it that there are big statues of Britishers who ruled over us..we are conserving the dirty legacy of colonialism.

History about this Park - Coronation Park Delhi: History Coronation Park, located in Delhi, India, holds historical significance as it was the site of the Delhi Durbar, a grand assembly held to commemorate the coronation of British monarchs as the Emperor or Empress of India. Here's a brief history of Coronation Park: Delhi Durbar of 1877: The park gained prominence with the Delhi Durbar of 1877, held to mark the proclamation of Queen Victoria as the Empress of India. The event was attended by various Indian princely states, British officials, and dignitaries from around the world. The park was chosen as the venue due to its large open space and convenient location. The Durbar of 1903: The park witnessed another significant event in 1903 when the Durbar was held to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra as Emperor and Empress of India. The park was adorned with temporary structures, including a grand pavilion where the royal couple was seated. Renaming as Coronation Park: After India gained independence from British colonial rule in 1947, the park was renamed Coronation Park to commemorate the historical significance of the Delhi Durbars. The park became a symbol of the end of British rule and the dawn of a new era for India. Memorials and Monuments: Coronation Park features several memorials and monuments that serve as reminders of the colonial past. Notable structures include the Obelisk of the Delhi Durbar, which stands as a memorial to the 1877 Durbar, and statues of British monarchs such as King George V and Queen Mary. These monuments serve as historical landmarks and attract visitors interested in India's colonial history. Coronation Park stands as a testament to India's colonial past and the historical events that took place during the Delhi Durbars. It is a place of historical importance and cultural significance in Delhi, attracting both locals and tourists interested in exploring India's history. Good place to go for a long walk with nature and refresh yourself. Highly Recommended 😊🍃👍 *History about Coronation Park* Coronation Park is a park located at Burari Road near Nirankari Sarovar (Formless Lake) in Delhi, India. It was the venue of the Delhi Durbar of 1877 when Queen Victoria was proclaimed the Empress of India. Coronation Park has the largest and tallest statue of King George V. The statue was moved here in the mid-1960s from a site opposite India Gate in the centre of New Delhi. It is opposite the Obelisk called the Coronation Memorial, which commemorates the 1911 Durbar, when George V laid the foundation stone for the new capital city of New Delhi. Delhi was chosen as the site of the park because the city boasted a great historical legacy for such royal activities.[2][6] The site was developed as a park and venue to hold the first Durbar, or imperial pageant, in Delhi under the supervision of the British Raj. Durbars were an "invented tradition" to showcase the prowess of the British by perpetuating a tradition of previous Hindu, Muslim and Mughal rulers.[6] Three Durbars were held by the British monarchy during a period of forty years in the park, which was located near the soon to be created New Delhi, just south of Shahjahanbad.[6] The three Durbars were held near a ridge where the British won a great victory during the Indian rebellion of 1857. In addition, the location helped emphasise the grandeur of the British monarchy to the native rulers and the people who attended the Durbars. In 2005, the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and Government of Delhi resolved to restore Coronation Park, which was in a state of neglect.[15] INTACH has also decided to complete the heritage corridor along with also improving and standardising the signs on Delhi's roads from Coronation Park in the north to Qutab Minar in south as part of the beautification of Delhi before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.[16] Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has prepared a Draft Zonal Development Plan for Zone – "C" (Civil Lines Zone) which includes the Conservation & Heritage of the precincts of the Coronation Pillar. DDA expects to develop it as a tourist spot since it is very close to the National Highway 1 (NH 1) bypass. It is also intended to develop the area around the Nirankari Sarovar, which has been earmarked for green/water body with sports facilities.[17] In 2017, however, after missing several project deadlines, the park largely remained in a state of neglect. •

This is the place where people are coming for morning walk, exercise, and running. The open gym is also available here. This also a picnic spot for spending time. This place has a history with it. The garden and the place within it were the favourite country house of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and the site of his coronation in 1658.
