Good shops.. good collection.. there is a space for 4 wheeler parking for 25 odd cars but it's very congested.. cars are parked haphazardly hence difficult to take it out while leaving. There is very less space on the nearby roadsides as well for parking. out the women's cooperative. In addition to the great shopping at Dakshinapan (and Dolly's tea) make sure to check out the building next door with the West Bengal Rural Women’s cooperative which is only a few months old but has some interesting products. There are many shops there with local handicrafts and very reasonable prices.

Different variety of jewelry are available in the market. Its just a minute walk from the complex. Do visit once the market. if you are good at bargaining go for it but i ensure the artist are not going to charge more . Hope it is helpful.

An open market under a single rooftop having decent stocks of different regional textiles. Most of the state emporium stores here have clothing both for men and women and that too under a reasonable price. Biswa Bangla store located here stocks colorful kurtas and finest linen. Apart from clothes, there are several shops having beautiful home decor items to choose from. There are also a handful of small tea and food stalls with sitting tables. The parking space for personal vehicles is located just beside the main entrance.

If there’s a place which stands out in South Calcutta which offers you a shelter to take a breadth, relax and also do some shopping among the friendly merchants this is the one! Granted it’s not a fancy mall, nor it does provide any respite from the weather if you happen to stroll in during summer days but what it does provide is a relaxing atmosphere and casual buzz which is perhaps missing in many places. And by the way if you happen to stroll in during evening hours it’s a delight to walk in the cooling breeze and do some window shopping! If you’re tired of visiting malls and want a change certainly recommended. My suggestion will be to improve on the rooftop area there’s so much more which can be done there!

This is one of South Kolkata's earliest shopping malls and is still going strong. There is a great variety of shops selling clothing, footwear, furniture, cosmetics and fast food. Many state governments have their "emporia" located here. The items good quality and provide value for money.

It's a very old shopping complex at Dhakuria. There are so many exclusive stores of different States, where you will get tradisional collections of dress materials, showpieces, jewellery collection etc. of their own states, like Kerala, Odisha, Assam etc. West Bengal's own Biswa Bangla showroom also attracts you, which is full of our exclusive Bengal's collections. Also Khadi collections, ready-made garments, footwear collections you will get over there with reasonable prices. Some food joints, tea point are also there to refresh you. Overall this is a very nice place of kolkata..

I have heard a lot about this shopping complex but being a North Kalkatan it was not possible for me to visit this place for a long time. Yesterday the much awaited opportunity came and I visited this shopping mall. The shopping complex consists of a huge two storied building with a paid parking space. The fare is 20/- per hour. The shopping complex has a huge variety of various Bengali textile items like kurti, night dress, saree, blouse, salwar suit, pillow cover at very reasonable price. It also has a food court for hungry shoppers.

Perhaps the oldest shopping complex that Calcutta has known, especially the ladies! It is your go-to place to shop for ethnic wear and it has a multi-cultural market from downright traditional to chic and modern ethnics for every age. Also got shops that sell interior decors. You have a wide range of shops and budget to choose from. If you are new to Calcutta and want to shop for ethnic wear, this is your best bet.

An incredible market place to visit in the southern part of the city of Kolkata. A must try for people who are tired of the monotonous architecture of shopping malls, and wish to experience something different and unique. A good and affordable place to buy clothes of almost all kinds, especially Indian wear for women. There are a couple of small restaurants inside to help rejuvenate after a long shopping spree.

Many shops with reasonable pricing. You can gain if you can choose correctly. Lots of Govt. Emporiums are there. You can alter you clothes (specially ladies wear) soon at a very reasonable price. Snacks can be taken here. A good theatre / auditorium is there. A very good place for bit of shopping, having snacks, repairing / altering clothes or watching a drama.

Authentic India made items all under one roof. One can get state emporiums selling ethnic items at Government authorized rates. Even the private shops sell good quality garments at a very economical price. Being an open market, one will not get air-conditioning. However, many of the shops are air conditioned.

This place is good to purchase handloom clothes and ethnic dresses. You will find a variety collection of sarees from Orissa which are approved by the govt of Orissa. There are a few shops to eat as well. However if you are staying around Dhakuria and are looking for sarees or ethnic wear in budget, this place is a good place to check out. You will also find lots of shops for oxidised jewelry and other ornaments.

  • 3/5 Rashmi S. 3 years ago on Google
A great place to shop for various state handlooms ranging from Kashmir, UP, MP, Orissa, Rajasthan etc. All these can be found on level 1. Whereas level 0 serves to your daily wear needs like pyjamas, shorts, night gowns, over coats etc. at reduced prices. You also can find shops selling warm clothes or if you fascinate buying sarees. After shopping spree would you like ending it with a Cup of tea? Dollys tea house serves the purpose with tea leaves picked up with love. Lemon ginger tea, black tea, milk tea, not many to choose from but worth spending your time there to rejuvenate your self. And yes, if you are tea fanatic unlike me, spending Rs. 120 after one cup of lemon ginger tea won't put a hole in your pocket.

This place has an essences of culture and tradition which makes shopping experience different. Most importantly the emporium and govt shops garuntee quality. The pricing may seem a bit higher but that's is reasonable because of the fine piece of work be it saree, dress material, any other stuff or object. I prefer visiting govt shops on the first floor and would recommend that because we need to support the craftsman and workers from rural India.

Actually whenever we visit here our college life memories get rejuvenated. The place really retains it's glory in terms of the quality shops of garments since the early 2000. Parking space is a bit smaller obviously.

Never buy at one go. Explore all the shops. Bargain a lot and then make the purchase. It has an old world charm. Has parking. Even some small eating joints. There is one famous tea shop here.

Awesome place. I have been there several times. The staircase area infront of it is a good timepass for just sitting and chatting. Outside Phuchka shop is already famous in Kolkata. Shopping complex has many shops. Closes around 8PM. Variety of clothings and apparels are available for purchase within good price range. I think it has a bike parking area. No idea if it has car parking.

Good shops.. good collection.. there is a space for 4 wheeler parking for 25 odd cars but it's very congested.. cars are parked haphazardly hence difficult to take it out while leaving. There is very less space on the nearby roadsides as well for parking.addition to the great shopping at Dakshinapan (and Dolly's tea) make sure to check out the building next door with the West Bengal Rural Women’s cooperative which is only a few months old but has some interesting products. There are many shops there with local handicrafts and very reasonable pr

Great place for traditional Indian textiles/sarees, artwork and jewellery from all over India. There are also many tailor shops and readymade garment stores. There is a food court sort of place with decent-ish food. (Nothing to write home about). Also a liquor shop and Godrej showroom is there. Overall affordable and good quality shopping experience for a variety of budgets. Highly recommended! :)

Why does this popular shopping centre have primarily shops to cater to the needs of womenfolk? It could do with more shops for the mensfolk. Also other essential shops other than dresses & decorative items. Nonetheless it is a very cheerful place for enjoyable shopping & treats.

  • 5/5 Subhrajyoti C. 1 year ago on Google
This is one of the best places to shop for souvenirs when in Kolkata. Situated near the Dhakuria Bridge on Gariahat Road, Dakshinapan is a large open-air shopping complex spread across two floors and a large courtyard dominates its center. While the external appearance may not be as appealing, it is only once you step inside that you will begin to notice the unique charm of the place. The only one of its kind in Kolkata, the complex houses a number of state approved handloom, handicrafts and textile emporiums which include Manipur, West Bengal, Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Kerala. Other private shops selling various items may also be found here. Saree shops like Tantuja, Roop Ganga and Handloom House Fabric and Sarees are especially popular; G-55 houses all kinds of Indian traditional folk music along with Hindi and Bengali movies. Cane furniture, carpets, embroidered goods, leather items, traditional folk art and religious idols are just some of the things that Dakshinapan is known for. Shopkeepers may try to convince you that theirs is a 'fixed price' establishment, but you can bargain on almost anything available here; just use a little subtlety. Various eateries help keep the energies high: Dolly's Tea Shop and Rajendra's are some of the favorites. Event venues like Madhusudan Mancha and Children Little Theater only add to Dakshinapan's popularity. To accommodate the constant flow of shoppers, there is a large parking space available.

This place has so much to offer. Unstructured, unsorted like a flee market and you need good eyes to fish out what you need. But surely you will get it. It has branded shops as well. A map or some guide arrows would have made this look more pro. I fear the years could be numbered for this market if they do not address properly to contemporary generations.

  • 4/5 Mannil M. 1 year ago on Google
Nice government shopping complex with all standard amenities. There are shops on ground floor selling variety of Indian outfits especially for women. The first floor is having lots of government emporiums. It has simple options for food and free drinking water, toilets and a paid parking lot. Nice place for a relaxed shopping experience. Recommended for all.
