Having both 1st & 2nd generation Indian friends and coworkers and having ate authentic Indian food from them and from living on the west coast I have to say I wasn't to impressed. For starters it seems as though there is no spice here in Wisconsin. Everything "spicy" is very watered down and bland and this doesn't just pertain to this restaurant. Anytime trying a new Indian restaurant I keep it simple and start with the basic chicken tikka masala as it is a simple recipe and hard to mess up. If its good I'll go back for more. Well I guess that's where the disappointment starts. The chicken that had zero flavor and was dry even though in was submerged in the masala container, seemed as if it was cooked possibly boiled but definitely not grilled and then refrozen to reheat when ordered. The curry was as thin as soup and after ordering a medium it wasn't even a mild. It had zero spice. The rice was ok nothing special but I will give credit to the plain naan bread which taste home made and fresh. I also ordered a side of vegetable soup as it was a cold and a dark 9* evening and it sounded amazing but I've never had greasy vegetable soup with such little flavor. Would I go back. NO. I felt as though a spent a pretty decent amount of money for one dinner that was by no means worth what I paid. If you enjoy mild flavors and watered down curry than this is your place. If you enjoy authentic Indian food than keep looking.

Got the Lamb Saag curry with Garlic Naan for takeout, and I have to say that this is quite possibly the best curry I've had since I lived in Asia. The naan was generously portioned and had a perfect texture, fluffy and delicious. The curry, meanwhile was perfect, exactly the flavour I remember. Only issue I had was the spice, or lack thereof; I asked for "EXTRA spicy", but it was a "spicy" at best. I will be coming here regularly, no question.

After transplanting from IL to WI, I've spent the last five years having Indian food at various restaurants all around the Madison area, only to ever be thoroughly disappointed. Haveli was on par with the best Indian restaurants I've eaten at across the world. I've tried several different dishes at this point, and not a single one has been less than incredible. Thanks to the business for not adding food coloring to the chutneys like so many places in Madison do, much appreciated. If we leave WI, we'll still be traveling to Haveli for their food.

My wife and I have eaten at many Indian restaurants around the country. As I put it to her, and she agreed: the dinner we had there this afternoon was as good as any that we had ever had at an Indian restaurant. The spinach in the saag was made from fresh spinach not frozen or whatever. The butter chicken was moist and delicious. The tandoori chicken was perfect. We had lamb samosa which were delectable. Even the naan was very good. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody who enjoys Indian food or someone who was going to try it for the first time.

Got dinner from here last night and everything was delicious. It was ready on time, I drove 20 minutes back home, and everything was still hot. Indian food does tend to cost a bit more but compared to other restaurants, the serving sizes were larger and meatier. I was surprised how much lamb I got in my dinner. You're getting homemade, well seasoned, delicious, high quality food, of course I'm happy paying more. And I greatly appreciated the cashier double-checking my order before I paid, that was nice.

The food is Americanized for the local population! It's not flavourful like an Indian food but it does taste good. Will visit if you're not from India and not used to the authentic Indian taste!

It is amazing! The food is always wonderful. I love all of their masalas. They also have great naans among other breads! They also give you the option to adjust the spice level. Their hot spice level is hot but still tastes wonderful!

If you're used to richly flavorful authentic Indian food and/or are of Indian descent, you're likely to be very disappointed. The food felt extremely diluted even after ordering medium spice which is the typical sweet spot at most Asian restaurants. When I called to give feedback the receiver rudely just said to order hot next time. I don't think there will be a next time.

I have always liked Haveli whether it's for dinner of the menu or lunch buffet. I'm vegan and appreciate that vegan entrees are marked on the menu. They are also marked on the lunch buffet and the staff are very knowledgable about ingredients. I always leave full!

DO??NOT??EAT??HERE!!! The buffet was horrible. The chicken was dry, rice was dry...the food had been sitting there for awhile. I ended up getting sick the day I ate there. I only had a few bites and they FULLY charged me for a buffet meal. My friend was nice enough to pay but seriously don't eat here......

I was very excited to get some Indian food after a long day at work. The restaurant was almost empty but it was snowy so we were hoping that was why it wasn't busy. There were two wait staff there and they took our order. My bf made sure to ask for the Naan to be well done and he brushed him off saying it's always well done... Well it wasn't. When it came we asked for more rice and they said if we want more we can ask.....Well we did want more but they never came back. One person was cleaning the whole time and the other, that kept touching his face, was on the phone looking my bf in the eye while trying to get his attention and the staff member just stayed on the phone. No one ever came to check on us until we were almost done and my bf had to ask for service. When he finally came he stood there with his hands in his pockets and when we asked about the rice for the food, that wasn't that great, he said we should have asked for more rice. He then got defensive talking about having to clean the whole restaurant instead apologizing and trying to make it right. Then he told us to calm down of all things. We asked for a box and a check and there was still no offer to make things right, no discount or offer to do so. The only reason I'm even giving one star is because I liked the Chicken Tikka masala so much. Awful service and his thank you as we were leaving was almost sarcastic.

We love Haveli. The food is great, some of my favorite papadam in the area, they're fast, accurate, but most all we just love working with them. They are so nice, courteous, and really always make the effort to make sure they've gotten us what we want. It's the type of place you feel good going to. Thank you Haveli!

The service was friendly and helpful, but the food was just β€œOK”. I ordered butter chicken and kheer. The butter chicken sauce tasted thin (not complex like butter chicken usually tastes) and the chicken texture was slightly rubbery. The kheer, however, was absolutely delicious. Maybe I’ll try a different dish next time. I’d hate to write this place off after just one go.

We order takeout from here probably once per month, or close to it. It's our favorite! We love the lamb and chicken tikka masalas, as well as the lamb curry and butter chicken. Tried the vindaloo last time and that was also fantastic. Garlic naan is a must. If you don't know what to order, try the "Royal Dinner for 2." Comes with two lamb samosas, butter chicken, lamb curry, chicken kabab (SO good!), naan, and dessert. We always have leftovers when we get this. They have a vegetarian version of this dinner as well. Anyways, now I'm hungry, and we'll be ordering again tonight. :)

We eat here all the time. I pretty much get the butter chicken with naan every time and it's always so good. I've had the tika masala which is also very good. We've been a little spoiled by this place because anywhere else we go just doesn't taste as good.

  • 5/5 Joey V. 2 years ago on Google
The food this place kicks out is nothing short of amazing. I eat here probably once every two weeks and every single time the quality is top tier and always consistent. The family that runs this is very very kind and sweet and when you're able to dine in we haven't been able to because of covid but when you do dine in there attentive on the spot and don't leave you waiting.

  • 2/5 Deb G. 2 years ago on Google
We used to go here when they still had a buffet, and the food was delicious. Today we got takeout, a medium lamb curry. (They are closed for dine-in, but will let you eat at their tables; we did takeaway.) The sauce was watered down and had very little flavor except for the hot spice they added to bring it up to medium. I see the Help Wanted sign in the window, and I hope they'll find a good cook and pay for the right ingredients to bring them back up to par. I'm inclined to give a lot of 4 and 5 star ratings, it's a pity that I can't do that here.

Tonight was my first night trying this place….I ordered a lot of food as my adult children were coming home and my daughter loves Indian food. This place was on my way home from work. I didn’t want to drive across town to our usual restaurant. Boy what a waste of $170+. The six dishes I ordered looked like soup and had no flavor. We only tried 3 and they were just aweful and bland and one all you could taste was salt. The bread also had a strange chemical after taste that was horrible. I called to let them know of my unhappiness and they didn’t seem to care. I will be driving across town to get Indian food from our restaurant that is outstanding from now on. This place was horrible….and even though everything was so watery the meat was so dry! If I could give negative stars I would!!!!

The food (butter chicken) just didn't have much flavor. I think that Mirch Masala and Maharani downtown serve much better stuff. Also, when I ordered I asked for kheer too, and they didn't include it and didn't say anything about it being missing.

I've been to Bangalore and there was a certain style of service and presentation. I have not found another place in the US since then that recreated the same feeling until this place. The food wasn't bad, but I'm not a connoisseur of Indian cuisine.

  • 1/5 Hali S. 4 years ago on Google
They advertise their lunch buffet which i found to be pretty small and overall the food was pretty generic and not good. The chicken was all incredibly dry. There is much better indian in the madison area.

Great food, friendly people, beautiful location! My bestie and I stopped in for the lunch buffet today. The door was fresh and full of a variety of dishes. Everything tasted perfect. A note about Indian food; regional differences in spice use tend to be such that southern Indiana has a higher intensity, while the further north you go, the more subtle the spices become. Haveli Indian Restaurant has a more northern style buffet, while you can ask for different intensity of spices when you order off of the menu. You may order off of the menu even when they have the buffet up, however you will pay menu prices.
