No longer a fan. This place used to be my all-time favorite. After ordering online, and discovering I had a 2 hour wait (too long) I was unable to cancel the order! There was no “cancel” option. I called the restaurant and got a recording. The end of the recording said that I could not leave a message. Really?! So we picked up the food anyway. I was very disappointed to get exactly 5 small pakora for $5. What a rip off. The Malai Kofta was a new recipe (too sweet). AND I was forced to give a tip when I placed the online order (no option to change it). How is that legal? Definitely a big disappointment. I won’t be returning any time soon.

Excellent (authentic per our Indian colleague) Indian food! I felt the deep, complex but well-balanced taste in all dishes! Steamed momos were good, which I think would be better if they were pan-fried. Mango Lassi was also excellent. With opening for dinner only, the place was overflowing, an attestment to good food, we can attest to also. Very attentive service and ambiance aa well.

Cardamom is our go-to for Indian food in Ann Arbor. We have enjoyed takeout and dine in from Cardamom for a few years. Their Palak Paneer, Malai Kofta, and Dal Tarka are all excellent. The breads (Roti, Naan, and Garlic Bread) were quite good too. I really enjoyed the Gulab Jamun, which was exceptionally soft. The Rice Pudding was decent as well. The Nimbu Paani was average - felt a little watered down, low on sugar, and with a dominant flavor of cloves. The service was excellent and they were quick to accommodate our large party of 8 people. All in all, we have greatly enjoyed Cardamom over the years and would highly recommend it!

I just moved back to Ann Arbor and had a hankering for good Indian for weeks. I finally broke down and popped into cardamom and am so glad I did. In the non-buffet, covid world of 2022, it makes sense to simply get the best of the best when eating myself to death at madras masala is no longer an affordable option. The food here slaps, plain and simple. I got some dal tadka and bhindi masala along with some samosa - everything was perfect, chutneys on point, spice level was perfect (asked for hot and got it). The hostess that rang me up was delightful as well. Thanks for a great meal, I shall be back soon 😬. P.S added a pic of my spoon selections for some comic relief from someone who forgot he hadn’t relocated his silverware yet but wouldn’t let that get in the way of a good meal.

Tasty Indian cuisine. The curry chicken was full of flavors and predominantly tomato based. Do you tandoori chicken, was well seasoned put a bit over cooked and dry. The restaurant is rather crowded and dimly lit.

From their perfect vegetable samosas to their sweet/divine gulab jamun… and everything in between, the team at Cardamom creates wonderful meals that are a delight to both the eyes and the tastebuds. The variety is very good here; “everything in between” includes lamb, goat, chicken, seafood and vegetarian specialties, and so much more to explore. The vibe is so nice here, with lighting that sets the mood. I really appreciate that they get the mild medium hot levels spot on — If you ask for it here, you will get it. Fresh is their middle name. This is a great Ann Arbor spot for friends, families, and couples looking for impeccable service and exquisite plates of Indian food, all at a competitive price. Namaste Cardamom!

I love Indian food + my friends have been raving about this place for years. I finally got to check it out with them + it is definitely worth the trip from Lansing! Our group of 4 ordered: Pakora + Chicken Momos (not pictured). Lamb Saag + Karahi Goat (front dishes, left to right). Bhindi (Okra) Masala + Vegetable Korma (back dishes, left to right). Onion Kulcha + Kashmiri Naan. Everything was delicious. My Lamb Saag was tender + creamy with the right amount of spice for the "hot" level that I selected. Made my friends sweat though! 😆 My friend who ordered the Bhindi Masala found the sauce to be more tomato-y than they prefer. It was yummy, though I think the sauce was a bit dry/tomato pasty instead of creamy + silky as the sauces in the other dishes we had. The highlights were the Karahi Goat + Kashmiri Naan! The goat was tender + sauce was bright + slightly amoky as if the meat + veggies had been grilled. This was my first time trying Kashmiri Naan. (I typically get Kheema Naan — lamb-stuffed naan; not on Cardamom's menu.) It was delightful! The sweetness of the chutney + the chewy-crunch of the nuts are a lovely counter-balance to the savory, spicier sauces that I like.

I love this restaurant so much- but lately when I call to order takeout at dinner time they have a voicemail saying they can’t take carry out because of high volumes of calls… I feel like if it’s dinner time you should prepare for the quantity of calls you’ll be receiving rather than just telling loyal customers via voicemail they simply can’t order there.

This place may be my favorite food in the county. I keep trying different things off the menu, and the very worst has been a 9/10 and so many just knock it out of the park. This is indian at its finest, and for a change of pace offers a number of goat dishes that you wont find in the typical lamb/beef/chicken fare that is elsewhere. A large swath of vegetarian options are also on the menu. They have a wide alcohol selection and interesting non-alcoholic beverages like nimbu pani, a ginger lemonade creation. Favorite dish so far is the lamb saag, my partner's the chicken korma, but even my least favorite dish is better than my favorites at most other places. My only complaints are the hours, they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and don't open until 5pm, and that occasionally they are too busy to take carryout orders, but even then if you call back in 5-10 minutes they'll usually be taking orders again.

I’ve spent hundreds of dollars at cardamom- the food is great but the service has gotten significantly worse over time which truly is a shame. Went there for my birthday dinner and after eating we ordered extra to take home (~$50 worth). Within a day and a half the containers had completely disintegrated into the food making it inedible which we were totally bummed about. Called to see if there was anything they could do, but they were extremely rude about it and refused to make it right.

Flavor, heat, signature cocktails were all amazing 🤩 I also very much appreciate the level of labeling for food restrictions and dietary needs. Everything was clearly labeled for gluten. I noticed they also had good labeling for vegetarian and vegan options. I'm so happy I showed up in Ann Arbor just in time for them to open up to inside dining.

Love the food and ordered from them repeatedly for carry out. I feel that now that they are back to in-person dining, they are not interested in carry-out patrons like us any longer. Won't answer the phone, it goes straight to voicemail which says basically if you hear this message we don't have time for your order and you are not a priority. I am questioning this business model and how it says "thank you" to the loyal customers who supported your business during the pandemic.

Cardamom used to be my favorite restaurant by far, I have eaten there many times and it's a place I hold dear to my heart because my husband and I had our first date there but I would now say "don't bother". We ordered two drinks, an appetizer and three dishes to share (and raita and naan) It was only half way through our main courses that our drinks came (after following up and waiting another 10 minutes). I don't know why it would take over 25 minutes for a beer and a simple cocktail to arrive. It would have been nice for the cost of those drinks to be waived as a courtesy but they were not. Our nonchalant waiter took forever to clear our table and give us boxes but was very quick to give us the check. I must say that the tables are ridiculously small so our bread basket ended up on the floor. As for the food it was alright, it used to be better, sometimes "medium spice" is subjective - it can mean comfortable heat and sometimes it will mean mouth on fire. The last two times they were very stingy on the meat, this time was ok. Ultimately their prices are quite high (most dishes tend to be around $17-$19) so there's an expectation of a certain level of quality. Their service has become quite poor - the last time I was there the two of us ordered the same dish - this was too confusing for our waitress because she thought that meant we were sharing the same tiny dish (when we had ordered nothing else). Instead of asking us to clarify she brought us the one dish and then we had to wait until they made the other one. Do you think we got a discount? Nope. This waiter was not much better. Maybe they need more training.

The pick-up experience during COVID was a big disappointment. The portions were much smaller than expected, and about half of the meal seemed to just be white rice. It was not worth the money. Additionally the food appeared to have been made well in advance as it was not even warm during pick-up. Finally, the food did not taste nearly as good as it did in-person. This whole experience made us sad as we loved eating at Cardamom when we have dined in but this really left a bad impression on us.

The best Indian in Ann Arbor. The seafood korma dining in was so tender and perfectly cooked. Damn fine food. The owner Binod is super cool.

Delicious food that tasted fresh. Staff were very kind and enthusiastic although I arrived to get my food a few minutes after closing. Tandoori chicken was perfectly moist and a bit spicy. The samosas and sauces were perfect. Rice and seasonings were wonderfully fragrant and full of flavor. Only thing I would change is that one could make notes when making an order online. For example, would be nice to add a note to an item that I order to not have onion due to allergy. Still, I'm very excited to have tried this restaurant and want to try more of their dishes!

I though our waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. However, i could not help but notice how the white customers were being served before us. We came here 20 minutes before a white family came and they were served Naan or "naan bread" as some Americans say almost immediately compared to us, which we had to wait almost 30 minutes for. Our waiter said the kitchen was backed up, which would be ok hadn't the family that came almost 20 minutes after was served immediately. Overall though the food was ok, pretty high prices and not much portions. Like your going to charge $12 for Chicken Kali Mirch and it's only five small pathetic pieces of chicken. My final take is that because this restaurant is very lucky to be in Ann Arbor as it can get away with charging high prices to people that usually aren't Indian. If this place opened up in Canton, Novi, Northville etc. I find it very hard to believe that it will be successful.

Always good. The food always meets our expectations and the take out order wait isn't unreasonable (30-50min). It would be nice if there were some more non-tomato based based curry options. But the curries they do have are wonderful.

  • 4/5 Jenelle D. 2 years ago on Google
Love their Tikka Masala, and love how careful they are with allergies most of the time (last time they wrote 'nut allergy' on the lid of my containers and it made me feel very confident that the food was safe for me to eat). My big complaint: why have a phone number if you don't pick it up or allow us to leave messages? I called to ask a question about one of their menu items and got a recorded message and couldn't leave a voicemail or anything. Also, it would be helpful to allow people to select their pickup time, or place an order for the future if they don't want the earliest pick up time.

Excellent food! We had chicken korma and chicken mahkni (butter chicken) and both were absolutely delicious! We also had chicken Tikka for appetizer and honestly I would get that as a meal next time. The ingredients were really fresh. Service was great! You know the food is good when you arrive when they open and there is already a line waiting!

I recently ordered takeout from Cardamom Indian Restaurant and was blown away by the quality of the food. The flavors were rich, the spices were perfectly balanced, and everything tasted fresh and delicious. The portions were generous. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to dine in the next day, and I was not disappointed! The service was friendly and attentive. The only downside is that it is a bit expensive, but the quality of the food and the overall experience make it worth it. I highly recommend Cardamom Indian Restaurant.

This place was fantastic. The wait wasn’t long. The staff was friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. The food was phenomenal. I got mild and it wasn’t hot enough, and I’m a light weight. Samosas were good and the fresh dips were delish especially the mint.

From Australia, first time in Ann Arbor visiting our daughter. The food was as good Indian as we have had in the best restaurant in Adelaide. Will definitely return when visiting again. Highly, highly recommend.

Best Indian food in Ann Arbor. Fresh, attention to detail, nice vegetables, lovely presentation. A little more nuanced than typical Indian. Tends towards spicy, medium is quite hot, just fyi. Ordered Veg Korma last time, which I NEVER order at Indian restaurants because it is always so bland and boring. It was DELICIOUS. Also highly recommend Tandoori Chicken - best I've ever had (and I used to live in London!). That shopping mall leaves something to be desired, but atmosphere inside the restaurant is lovely. Can't recommend this place enough.

I would consider myself a foodie... I love watching Instagram DIY recipes, I love cooking at home, but most of all, I love eating at my local restaurants. A dear friend recommended I check out Cardamom and WOW, what a recommendation. I mean were do I start? The food is absolutely incredible, it's authentic (I'm white so I think it's authentic), delicious and sooooo instragramable. I got like 43 likes on my aloo gobi post and that's over double what I usually get. Also the employees are incredibly professional and friendly, the host and I really hit it off, I'm actually going to his families holiday celebration this year! Lastly, the atmosphere is really inviting and even though I went solo, I could see myself taking a date here (any takers?). Overall it was 11/10 experience! If you're in Ann Arbor you MUST attend Cardamom!!!

Over priced and bland food. I’m extremely disappointed in this restaurant because my food was very bland. I would not recommend unless you like food that is not seasoned. The only thing that was good was the rice.

  • 5/5 Larissa H. 4 years ago on Google
This is my favorite Indian place. The food is delicious and the service is great. However, they do not take reservations and they are crazy busy for dinner. Expect to wait if you go after 6. Also, if you get carryout and they are busy, they might not answer and you will have to either give up or decide to be a stalker and call repeatedly. Their spice level isn't the most consistent so if you want a lot of spice, tell them.

Cardamom is my favorite place for Indian food in the metro detroit area! We have had two separate occasions where we order medium or mild spice and received food that was ungodly spicy and had to be remade but the staff was very accommodating both times. Usually order chicken tikka masala and lamb chettinad and they're both delicious. My boyfriend loves the garlic naan too!

  • 5/5 Ms. N. 4 years ago on Google
This and shalimar are the best Indian restaurants in Ann Arbor. My only complaint is they don’t carry brown rice. For people with high blood sugar, it is important. Plus it’s Ann Arbor, you should be carrying healthy options even if you may have to charge extra for it. I wouldn’t mind paying extra. I love love love this place though. Everyone should go here once and decide for themselves.

I tried cardamom numerous times. I went there during lunch time and also dinner time. It is usually crowded and you might wait some time to be seated. The food is delicious and the servers are nice and attentive. I definitely recommend the place

  • 5/5 Ariangela D. 5 years ago on Google
Stopped here for a quick lunch today and was not disappointed! I had the chicken thali lunch, which is an assortment of dishes, designed to provide each taste (salty, sweet, sour, etc?) Each dish was phenomenal and portioned to be filling. I also noticed that the menu is coded by allergen status, so it is easier to figure out which dishes would likely be problematic for people with dietary restrictions (it's still always good practice to alert a server though).

  • 5/5 Ben D. 4 years ago on Google
On a good day it's the best South Asian restaurant in Metro Detroit and one of the best restaurants in Ann Arbor. Should really be downtown. It's expensive but normally worth it for the food. Chicken tikka can be excellent. Quality does vary from excellent to just OK. Needs a better space and more consistency in dish quality to justify cost.

We love this place for excellent Indian Cuisine! It’s the best in Ann Arbor and I love the selection includes some Middle Eastern dishes as well like the Biryani, which is always comfort food to me with its aromatic spices served in a covered metal bowl. I was not very impressed with this restaurant. It seemed a bit white washed food wise. I guess I've been spoiled eating in Farmington Hills. The menu had very few options and ordering a staple like Chicken Tikka Masala (yes I know it's not "Indian") left me feeling like this place isn't frequented too often by actual Indians. The chat we ordered was quite good, but was expensive for its portion size and put an emphasis on formed plating technique over substance. Overall the food was mediocre at best, but I'm not sure what the clientele is like. While we were there it was basically all white people, which I'm not used to at most of the Indian places I frequent. It's a decent restaurant, but nothing amazing compared to a place like Indian Flavors.

This place was phenomenal! They are VERY busy on Saturday nights. We had a party of 7 and the wait was over 20 minutes to be waited, however we were able to sit at the bar while waiting. They have a great variety of non-alcoholic drinks. Please be advised they do not allow outside food. Their service is excellent and their staff was very helpful in providing us with the information we needed to order. Everything was fresh and super yummy! Excellent authentic Indian food!

Food might be the best in the entire A2 area, and service is always very friendly. I've been so many times for dates, work meetings, or just a quick luncheon with friends and it's been wonderful every time. Service is always surprisingly fast and affordable too, which is just a bonus. If you like Indian food, and are in the area, this is a must-go location!
