If you are looking for a hidden gem, look no further. Dishes of India is a family owned restaurant that takes pride in its authentic Indian cuisine with spices filled in each dish. The restaurant, located within a shopping center and downstairs makes this experience all the more intriguing. We ordered familiar dishes that I have recreated myself as a vegan and their spices are so welcoming and warm. The environment is welcoming and their staff is kind, attentive and hospitable. The dishes we highly recommend are: Samosa, Salmon tandoori, Veg biryani, Aloo Gobhi, Channa Masala, and an Assorted bread basket. Everything was spot on with flavors, presentation and spice… highly recommended as a family friendly restaurant who is looking for a delicious Indian experience.

I ordered using a food delivery app for dinner and I was not disappointed. I love Indian food and this place was perfect. I ordered the chicken biryani for myself and butter chicken. This place has the best chicken biryani I ever had, I thought other restaurants had good biryani. The butter chicken was good and it wasn’t spicy so if you don’t like spicy food you can eat the butter chicken here. The food here has flavor and worth every dollar.

Visited Dishes of India on 28th July. What a fantastic place to enjoy Indian cuisine🤩 The place was cozy with a welcoming host. We were seated right away no wait time thanks to weekday night🤪 We ordered as below: 1. Appetisers: - samosa were piping hot😋😋 the covering was crunchy and the masala was tasty inside - chicken tikka was deliciously cooked - panner tikka was yum 2. Main Course: - Murg masala was tasty and pieces were cooked perfectly. - Kashmiri murg Korma was so yum and the quantity was too good for 3 - Garlic nan was hot and was easy to chew - Chicken Biryani was perfectly cooked and was shared by 3 because we were full with the delicacies The curries were served with white rice, appreciate it. Thank you for the service and kudos for the tasty food 😋

Some friends and I met up for lunch at Dishes of India. I was looking forward to their buffet, but they only have it during the weekend. In any event, we ended up ordering stuff off their menu. We shared the Papri Chaat and Palak Chaat. Both dishes were so delicious...tangy and sweet, with a hint of spice For mains, we ordered salmon tandoor, lamb korma, chicken karahi, palak paneer and aloo Gobi. We also got their naans. The food was delicious and we enjoyed every morsel. Would definitely go back again.

Very nice experience. Waiters were dressed to impress and were very professional. Dining area and restrooms were imaculate. Nicely decorated. Food was pretty good. I was anticipating and would've loved if food was just little spicy. The heat level was definitely a 0 which can be a plus to some people. My first time having the Chaat Paapri and it was deeeelish! Perfect amount of spice in that dish. I also loved the intentionality in the manner our take home food was packaged.

What a great place. Yes you do have to walk downstairs about 10 steps to get to the restaurant but so worth it. The food was served fresh and hot. It was delicious. The wait staff was very attentive and explained everything. This place is a gem and they will see us again.

Its only good for people that don't know how real Indian food is supposed to taste, as in, it doesn't have any real flavor or spices that the dishes are supposed to have. Went with a group tried about 9 different main course options and a few appetizers. Not a single dish was flavorful. The service and staff were very kind and good, but the food didn't have any true flavor.

No flavor ... Like NONE! So disappointed, we went here a year ago and thought maybe it was just an off night but tried it again today and there is NO flavor. I can't even say "Americanized" Indian as this was the least flavorful Indian that I have ever had. I won't say it tastes "bad" as it seems fresh but it just completely lacks flavor. I will also say that portions sizes are large. I won't be returning, it did not satisfy my Indian craving.

Can't say enough good things about Dishes of India. We do to-go orders here often and the food is always prepared on time and tastes amazing. Honestly, we've never ordered anything that made us unhappy. Eating in the restaurant is just as enjoyable. Friendly, helpful staff and always an incredible presentation. We love Dishes of India and hope it's here in the neighborhood for a long time.

We used to go regularly with my family to this restaurant and the food was great. It was buffet style. And they had special dishes and desserts for holidays weekends. However, pot pandemic they no longer has buffet, they only offer bowls specials for $20 plus dollars. Their price growth is not in accordance with quality and location. So I’m not sure if it changed ownership or why the prices and quality changed so much ( not for the better). It has a very steep set of stairs to get to this underground restaurant, so this is a challenge for handicap or elderly people. Otherwise parking is easy since it located in the Safeway supermarket shopping center in Belle Haven.

I ordered palak paneer for take-out last night and it was delicious! The portion was incredibly generous—easily enough for three meals. I plan to come back weekly and get an order to eat for lunch throughout the week. The service was lovely, too—I was greeted by three different people when I arrived to pick up my order and offered a seat at the bar while I waited.

This place has awesome service as well as delicious menu. One of the best restaurant in the city. The meals came out rapidly and the rates are affordable. I recommend this place.

When I lived closer to this restaurant, it was a regular stop. Nice buffet at lunch with lots of choices, and a good place for carry out any time. The people who work here are so very nice and welcoming! It was nice to visit again!

Nice quiet restaurant, good lamb curry, rich complex flavors. I have enjoyed sitting with my work colleague here, having an actual conversation. The servers are polite and professional.

We just had the Alexandria Restaurant Week menu for $49. It was truly superb. I’d say the best Indian meal we’ve had yet in the DMV. The samosas were nice and crisp, the chicken and lamb both tender and flavourful. The chana masala a bit on the sweet side, but altogether a treat! We’ll be back!

The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. Food was kind of bland. Needs more spices in the Saag and butter chicken Tandoori chicken was good as was the Naan and Samosas Went to the buffet around 11:30 on a Sunday am and food was fresh and hot.

First timers here. We have never eaten Indian food before mostly because i was afraid of too much spice. I was so wrong. The food was delicious. Yes you can get some dishes very spicy. We did not. Very flavorful. We are adding another cuisine to our menus

Oh my gosh this place is amazing! I'm not a vegetarian, but the Began Malvani (Vegan) is phenomenal. The basmati rice is flavorful on its own, but coupled with the rest of the dishes, it's just an out of this world experience. The staff there is so nice, and our food was served quickly. I highly recommend this place and plan on returning as soon as possible!

So happy the weekend lunch buffet is back. They had well spaced seating and the food was great. Staff was very attentive. Cant wait to go back.

They offer weekly small bowls for lunch. You only need two orders of the small bowls for three people. They give you generous portions. The butter chicken was tasty.

I must have just had a bad meal … but this was terrible. I’ve had paneer tikka masala before and loved it so I ordered “paneer tikka” online thinking it would be the same thing. Wow this was the least flavorful thing ever. Maybe I’m supposed to eat it with something else but how are paneer tikka and paneer tikka masala that different. Maybe I should blame myself but never order the paneer tikka by itself.

So darn good! The fried spinach app is a must try. Sizzling lamb, butter chicken and saag was on point! The pistachio dessert is decadent and a must! I'll definitely be back to try more!

Dishes of India was a pre-COVID fav place to gather with friends as you could not beat their buffet. Everything is delicious and the paneer dishes are my go to. They have curbside pickup.

It was our first time eating traditional indian food as well as our first time in the area, and we were left with a wonderful impression of Indian cuisine. Super delicious. The lamb karahi, murg tikka tandori, and murg makhani (butter chicken) were exquisite. Also, in appetizers, definitely order the palak chaat, won’t regret it.

  • 3/5 nilesh a. 2 years ago on Google
Good place to get the fix, but not the best. Could be improved. If you are not going to serve buffet, then come up with new ideas to widen your bowl menu, add thaali, so patrons can sample different food items. Time to upgrade your menu as well. Owners and staff is really polite and try to meet your requests. That said, it's a good safe place in the Bellevue neighborhood.

  • 5/5 Charlotte K. 1 year ago on Google
I ate here 2x a week pre pandemic for lunch, I even went on the last buffet day as covid hit imagining that it would be my last meal there for a few weeks, LOL. So thrilled the buffet is back. Sadly it's only weekends, but I'll take it. Looking forward to a bit more variety.

Such a wonderful little place. The food was delicious, I got lamb vindaloo and it did not disappoint. We were out looking for somewhere new to try and im glad we found Dishes of india. The waiter was attentive and helpful.

Decent Indian food if you are in a pinch. The layout it odd, it is downstairs, to its a little dark. I once had an issue with a plate and management was kind, replacing the dish.

The food is delicious. It feels a little weird walking downstairs to the restaurant, but don't let that deter you this place is great!

I used to love this place! The food was good this time around, but the pista kulfi was not what I remembered it to be. It tasted like it was months old, and instead of being green like before it was completely brown. Disappointing.

  • 2/5 Xavier A. 3 years ago on Google
The food in unimaginative. The Tandori shrimp were lack-luster and basically were just Shrimp, with Cooke curry on it and nothing else but some white rice. Boring and flat. The eggplant had a little complexity in the sauce but still just ok. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out either. I asked for something besides rice in the side and they said no. I asked for vegetables instead and they said no. Their food is not good enough to so unaccommodating. So if you miss this place you’re not missing much, it’s all just very average. Now if you want some good high-end Indian food go to Rasika. If you want some good Street food style Indian go to Bombay Street Food. Curry Leaf In Laurel and London Curry in Alexandria. I almost would have excused their lackluster boring and Indian food if it wasn’t for the lack of customer service.

Dishes of India is my everything. I have been to every Indian restaurant in the area and this is by far the best at the price point. The spicing of their dishes is always perfect. I very highly recommend their began bhartha (best version I have ever had, in the US or India), palak paneer, malai kofta, and kashmiri naan. I have never had a bad (or even less than good) dish here. The staff is so lovely. The takeout portions are generous. I basically adore them and would eat here every other day if I lived closer.

  • 5/5 Justin B. 4 years ago on Google
Stopped in on a whim for some chicken tikka masala carry-out. They had a cherry masala variation on special for the evening and it was absolutely delicious! Their naan bread was also excellent. Was a little on the pricey side, but you get so much food! Will definitely try and stop in again if in the area and have the chance!

This is easily one of the best Indian restaurants I've come across in the DMV. I've been coming to this restaurant for several years and my opinion hasn't changed. The staff is overly accommodating and the food is exquisite. Treat yourself to dessert if you wish to prolong the culinary adventure. They also have an adequately stocked bar. Don't let the strip mall facade sway your opinion. Dishes of India stands alone.

Seriously that’s what lunch Buffet is?????Never I have ever thought I will eat just salad in a Indian Restaurant.

  • 4/5 Nathan B. 3 years ago on Google
Superb food! Butter Chicken and Chana Masala were very good. Portions were good - we had leftovers. The price was slightly high, but not too bad. Basmati rice was included. Garlic Naan was $3.95 each, which seemed a little over the top for an $18 meal that feels like it should include it. Without drinks, dessert, appetizers, you're looking at $50 for two with tax and tip, more if delivered. I enjoyed the meal. I guess I'd prefer the format of a $20 Indian buffet where you can eat as much Naan as you'd like.

My wife and I go here often and are never disappointed. She's vegetarian and highly recommends the Malai Kofta! I prefer their selection of Tandoori dishes and their lamb karahi, but to be fair we've tried a lot and I haven't had a dish that wasn't delicious.

  • 5/5 Katie D. 4 years ago on Google
This is our top go-to for last-minute dinner plans! We live within walking distance, so we order here almost weekly. The tandoori salmon is absolutely fantastic, the service is great, and there is always an option for everyone! Cannot recommend enough!

VEGAN. A nice restaurant and while they offer a vegan menu, ALL Of their RICE is NOT vegan. I was told if I wanted just rice than it would be a 25 minute wait each time I asked for it.

Loved the food here. Their buffet is the best as you can get all the varieties of Indian food that is hard to in foriegn land. Biryani, roti, lassi, etc. They good seating area. Nice atmosphere. They have Kebabs also.
