Third time I have been here and first time review. The menu is pretty good and the service is fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. The food was all good and enjoyable. The tandoori and the roti were exceptional dishes that I would definitely go back for again!! Great traditional Indian flavours in a modern take.

Wonderful service and served just the right level of spice and spiciness for me at least, a good variety of cocktails and beverages, great music and decor. I would rate this restaurant a reputable 4.6 stars. The draw back is that you can’t choose the level of spiciness you wanted and it’s relatively hot for kiwi’s standard; and the table is way too small for the tiny amount of food that we’ve ordered. Oh yes, there is no mobile coverage inside the restaurant, too.

For years I had heard so many things about Cassia and never made it. Boy am I glad that changed as the lunch we had there was simply world class. The flavors are so fresh and light which is not normal for Indian cuisine, everything we tried was a home run and we can’t wait to return soon. James Ashwin Kakapo Business Sales

I had heard so many great things about this restaurant and finally visited after they had relocated to a new site. To be honest, I was not particularly impressed and did not feel they had earned their two-hat status. The food and atmosphere of the restaurant were both rather lackluster. And dining table was incredibly small...

We did the journey through India tasting menu and it was amazing! We particularly enjoyed the pani puri, vindaloo carrots and the chicken labrardar curry. Decent sized portions meant we walked away very satisfied. The service was excellent too. It’s a good thing we don’t live in Auckland or we would be here all the time.

Everything A+++++ we indians have experienced all sorts of food outside, from street to 5/7 starts Restaurants. CASSIA is one of the 5/7 stars restaurants. I could proudly say that finally, we have had the Master Chefs level dishes in auckland. Perfect spice levels. I like their set manu system. This is the confidence of the Chef. Whatever they will cook is going to b 100/100.. you wouldn't go wrong, and they ll not give you a chance to complain. Very professional staff.

Fantastic indian food dining experience! This is a must go place if you enjoy fine dining and to learn about new food cultures. Who would have guessed that a carrot can taste THAT good?? Great atmosphere (just a bit cramped as they fit in a lot of people in a small space) and vibe. Would have loved it they asked us our “burn tolerance” up front and not assume that all customers can eat the same intensity hot food. (I would have enjoyed it much more if I could have savoured the tastes and not chuck 50% of the meals down with water) We did the Cassia Journey menu- money spent well!

Very disappointed with my experience at Cassia tonight. I came here for dinner with my friend before going to the symphony orchestra and was wearing a silk dress. The waiter managed to spill water ALL over my dress leaving me completely soaked. I helped him to mop up the water as no other members of staff came over to assist. I was then left without a napkin for the remainder of the evening. I had ordered the Cauliflower Panner dish and assumed I would have received a healthy amount of panner, however I had the tiniest panner cubes sprinkled on top of the dish. I think I managed to find 6 teeny tiny little squares. When I came to pay there wasn’t any offer in a reduction of price or free drink for my wet dress. With the standard you expect from Cassia at the very least they should have offered something complimentary.

I have wanted to stop by for quite a while so I probably hyped it up a lot in my mind. The restaurant was quite comfortable and not overly loud so it was easy to hold a conversation. The lights were dimmed but sufficient so you could see the food and company. The service was nice and friendly and the menu was interesting. The food was a bit of a hit and miss for me though. I tried the Achari fire cocktail and it is exactly as described as it was spicy, but it tasted like a chili sauce. I was expecting more of a mango flavour but the flavours were quite interesting with the spice. The heat mellowed at the end of the night when the ice melted. Most of the food was really nice, particularly the duck and the carrot, both being absolutely stunning. The carrot was an afterthought to get some veggies but was one of the better dishes of the night. I was expecting a bit more pronounced spice flavour in the dishes though, but it was still nice. The tandoori fish had a nice smokiness to it which I liked. The lamb kebab was also quite nice and a little spicier than the others. I was excited for the crayfish cone but it tasted like cream cheese and I was trying to find the texture of the crayfish which I couldn't find. I'm guessing that the crayfish was made into a mousse which the cone was filled with. The biggest disappointment for me was the pork belly. The pork itself was cooked nicely but the prawn balchao that came with it was on the edge of too salty for me. It was unpleasant to eat by itself and we weren't sure if it would be possible to get more rice as it wasn't on the menu. It is definitely a nice place for dinner and I would come back to try the other items because most of the dishes were tasty.

Use to be great. I went here constantly. The last time I was there was today. I guess it has new management or something. Every time we ask for the dish to be hot (insanely hot, like they have always done) the guy ALWAYS brings out mild. No kick, no flavor. Super frustrating. Gonna try Bombay Palace again because the new guy at Sitar who has taken my order that past 5 times refuses to make what I’m ordering or thinks I’m too stupid to tell hot food from mild. Unfortunate

Food tasted good. Couldn't complain. Service needs some work (some staff need better training, not all). We went for a valentines day set menu ($180) and hoped the atmosphere would suit the occasion. That wasn't necessarily the case. The menu looked like a last minute print out without any thought.

It's rare when a restaurant out performs high expectations but Cassia managed it with ease. And not just the food, but the services and even soundscape all worked in harmony to deliver a memorable experience. We had a fixed menu on xmas eve which featured a mushroom dish which alone guarantees my return.

Words honestly can’t describe how good this restaurant is. The atmosphere, the ambiance, the service, the FOOD. We had the journey menu where they brought out each course and each bite was divine. The range of flavours, textures and spices were all perfectly balanced. The staff were attentive, kind and went absolutely above and beyond to make sure we were looked after and had a fantastic experience. Could not recommend more.

Absolutely amazing experience! We had the journey through India vegan set menu and everything was so delicious I was in Heaven. The eggplant and carrots were both standout dishes but everything we ate was incredible. Thank-you!

We love Cassia so much it’s our fav. This is our 4th time to dine here and they always deliver. The food are outstanding, really complex flavours and generous serving. You can’t go wrong with the beef rib - so yum! They’ve also got a nice drink selection too.

Our time at Cassia was truly the best dining experience we’ve ever had. From the minute you step into the beautiful premises on Federal Street, you are greeted with friendly staff and incredible smells. The service is phenomenal from start to finish. Now the food, oh the food, it is an absolute knock out. I highly suggest the journey through India option letting the chef choose dishes for a four course meal. We loved that every dish had warmth and spice without burning. A wonderful surprise was the mushroom, green chilli, and truffle dish, and you’ve got to try their classic roasted carrot, vindaloo dish. My mum who has coeliac disease was fed without any problem whatsoever and really only missed out on the naan. Finally, the cocktails are outstanding. I’d highly recommend the Amore speziato. 10/10 experience 🩷

One of the best restaurants in Auckland, highly recommended. It was the second time I went there, and had the same amazing experience. We ordered the August Restaurant month set menu, plus a few extra dishes from the A La Carte menu. Top notch food, presentation and service, everything was very consistent. The cocktail was amazing. The only minor criticism I have is on the blood orange sorbet dessert, I felt it didn’t need the extra crunchy element of the ‘honeycomb’. I’d prefer to have a softer texture like a sponge cake instead. Overall it was an exceptional dining experience, great value and every bite was remarkable.

Each dish is a painting on it's own.. food is full of flavor that you cannot ignore. The restaurant is the best in NZ and there are several reasons.. quality, quantity, presentation and above all the service. Completely impressed.. would love to go there again.

We had dinner on Thursday night and it was very happy and delicious experience. Service was very good and food was absolutely amazing. Cassia just changed my perspective on Indian cuisine. Every single dish was gorgeously plated and not to mention how taste these dishes were. So thankful to all staffs for having us great time on my husband’s birthday :D

Excellent delicious tasty food with excellent flavours and spice. Good beers and wines to match. Staff are helpful and informative. You need to book as it gets super busy. Pricey but worth it. Market fish and lamb chops were my favorite, eggplant was great too.

Literally the best Indian dining experience I have ever had. We came with no reservation, but the host kindly seated us at the bar. From there, our party of four embarked on Cassia's "Journey Through India" menu. The pacing started off slow, then just as I was truly hungry, we received an onslaught of dishes, including their lamb kebab. I can see why they call it their signature dish. Everything was delicious, but my personal favorite was the mushrooms early on. Such a texture that you can chew them and enjoy the taste for awhile.

Very good ambiance. Food was tasty and a bit different compared to traditional Indian restaurants. Worth the visit. Presentation of food is commendable. Menu is very simple and easy to understand. Business lunch is a very good value for the money.

Reliably good food, striking a balance between a kiwi pallet and authentic indian. A great place to eat together, with modern music in the air and quick and attentive service. Not to be confused with Sid's finer cuisine restaurants, this place is that mid-high end restaurant that isn't above charging you $10 for sparkling water.

Cassia is one of my absolute favourite places. But you have to rate a restaurant highly of they are able to substitute ingredients for dietary requirements and they still taste incredible

Indian food is hard to reinvent - this restaurant is amazing. We chose to go through the journey menu - this is a fixed price option. To be honest it is worth every cent. Delicious food served by knowledgeable staff in a delightful way. I’m really grateful to support our local businesses and Cassia is doing their best to support local communities. DELICIOUS.

This was my first visit since cassia went pure Indian rather than Indian fusion. The food was good but not good enough to get five stars. Meals came out promptly but getting a waiter's attention took a while. We were not asked how spicy and food was a little hotter than my personal preference. Overall a bunch of little faults in an otherwise excellent meal.

Table for six -three older couples. Not a place to dine if you want to have conversation. Dark is acceptable but omg the noise ! Food was varied, tasty and generous until dessert. For all savoury servings there were three servings of each tasting bowl. Dessert was one bowl of each of three desserts. Not generous or enough! We had been advised that our 7.30pm booking was for two hours at which time we were to leave as Cassia was confident of a pressing need for tables at 9.30pm. We felt hastened through our meal. We only ordered a glass of wine after a gorgeous tanqueray and grapefruit cocktail in view of the time limit. We moved on to Britomart for coffee and conversation. Quite a lot of Lost revenue for Cassia especially as there were empty tables and no 9.30pm queue for whom we had scarpered!

What a amazing place Cassia is. From start to finish couldn't fault, every dish stood out with flavour and finesse. We ordered a selection of small bites to begin Pani puri potato chickpea mint, Wagyu Beef laal maas croquette, Te Matuku oyster pakora, Spicy lamb kulcha, mustard, coconut, all were stand outs and unique in flavour and presentation. Mains we went off the to share options and settled on Snapper, mustard seeds, kerela sauce, and Caramelised duck, chettinad sauce, onion, ginger once again both outstanding in there own ways pack with spice and flavour, all this and a bottle of Kumeu Chardonnay coupled with stand out service ensured a great night highly recommend and will be back sooner than later.

I tried their Cassia at home menu and I have to say it's the best Indian food I had during my last 4 years here in New Zealand. The combination of flavours, textures and spices is well balanced. Would definitely recommend Cassia to anyone who loves Indian food.

  • 4/5 Brly C. 4 years ago on Google
Great Indian food with a modern twist. Fresh dazzling and tantalizing to your taste buds. Alcohol is expensive a $20 Zinfandel was more than 80 for a bottle a bit rich so I stuck with one beer. It was a bit noisy for the cost of this elegant meal. Otherwise I would give 5 star.

If you are willing to splash a little cash and all in for spicy food, this place is a little delight. A well crafted a la carte menue with traditional Indian dishes twisted up to tangle Aucklander taste buds. The cocktails are a treat and the food is also pretty darn good, with a wide choice of food, it makes it probably one of the leaders in high end Indian cuisine for Auckland. I appreciate the modern touch, but a slightly more authentic experience would push the 5* for me.

Easily 5 stars for food. Easily 5 stars for accommodating our party of 3 when we only booked 2. Easily 5 stars for ambiance and super chill vibe. However, while the service is very attentive and very pleasant, the pace of the tasting was about 45 minutes too long. It might sound like whinging, but 20 minutes between finishing a course and then getting the next course is a bit long -although it certainly kept us hungry, which is good for a tasting menu. I'd 100% return and recommend this place to a friend, I'd just also make sure there's sufficient time.

One of the best restaurant we visited. My first date was in Cassia and we did our legal wedding there as well. This restaurant always gives us as a home feeling they take care for you while you are there guest. Me and my wife we always prefer to go there for any occasion because they celebrate with you. Food quality I don't think anyone need explanation there food is next level and I always tell my friends and family members to visit. They got only one issue closing on Sunday and Monday I wish they are open 24*7 so we can go there because we never get bored with their dishes and taste. Our life started at Cassia and we will always celebrate our anniversary there :)

This was a ridiculously good meal. One of the better ones I've had in Auckland. Atmosphere was stellar. It's a giant, poured concrete basement. Active, hustly bustly, vibey. Service was stellar. There was always someone available, but never felt suffocated. Food was outstanding. Especially the wagyu beef croquettes. I would eat those like popcorn. Otherwise, the lamb chops are a must have and I tended to like the carrots because they were the spiciest thing we ate, but my partner liked that less. We had the chicken curry as a main, which was amazing but the full plate is quite rich! All in all, we'd go back again in a heart beat.

Edit. Initially gave this place 5 stars for their a la carte menu a year ago. Tried the Tasting Menu yesterday but was supremely let down. Kerala Beef was extremely sweet to the point another diner said it was like eating peanut butter. The beef was tough as boots and dried up. Didn't even finish my dish; that was how bad it was. Major fail. Dessert was again one dimensional sweet and not impressive at all. Tandoori fish was nothing special. Eggplant was off balance and a wee bit too tart. The lamb chops was the only good one. Overall, hugely disappointing. Would I go again? Yes but only for the ala carte menu. Would never go near the Tasting one again. Definitely not up to any degustation out there in the Auckland scene. Pity.... Original review: If you don't count the drinks, the food value is very fair in terms of taste, presentation and portion. Service was impeccable. Our food came to only $150 for 4 and even then, we had to overeat a bit as the portions were very generous. Drinks were the killer at another $40+. That said, my kids loved the food and they normally moan when the adults want to eat Indian food (as they sometimes find the adult palette too spicy). Hubby and I were impressed with the food but can't honestly say it is the best Indian food we've ever eaten as that accolade belongs to the fabulous Indian food found in Malaysia. But for Kiwi standards, this is worth it. Will come again.

Stunning take on Indian cuisine. Fresh, modern and bordering fine dining. The lamb chops are an absolute must to start with! Excellent atmosphere with great music and decor. Awesome buzz. Those with poor eye-sight may struggle to read the menu, though. Service was faultless throughout the evening. Highly enjoyed my dinner with Cassia.

What an amazing experience from the beginning to the end 😀 the journey through India option is perfect, all you have to do is just enjoy delicious food without having to worry what to order - highly recommend this option but please go with empty belly. From the get go this place was a perfect find. The food was great and so too the service. But don't believe the waiters when they say it's not spicy because its just not true. Spicy enough to have you want to come back for more 🤯

Absolutely Stunning. The customer service and knowledge of the whole menu from all the wait staff is awesome, the food is even better. Never have you seen Indian food done with such an elegant flair. Every dish is perfectly crafted to be balanced and completely blow your mind. We have been to this restaurant a few times, both with work and personal. Each time, the food is always satisfied us. Pros: Indian fine dining at a smart-casual atmosphere. Good range of food options and plenty of flavour which is why we keep returning. We have tried both order off the menu and their "A Journey Through India" - all great. Our personal favourite: Lamb chops and Beef short ribs Cons: might be a bit spicy for those who cant tolerate, our parents got put off since it is not as "fine dining" as they expected since Cassia is more casual/relax. It doesnt bother us, rather we enjoyed it more. Wait staff also more casual than what you would experience at other fine dining. What put me off this time was their poor attention to details. Despite advising upon booking/ arrival and informing waitress that I am pregnant, I was served medium lamb chop while requested well done. It would be perfect usually but very disappointed this time. Lucky I had phone torch and checked after a bite (since it is quite dark there). Would we come back - yeah maybe if they improve their service. Still recommend to those who want to experience Indian food at its finest.

We had a office Pre booked Christmas dinner here with around 20 people. We booked Set menu but it was such a bad experience with having served in a shared way where we were expecting individual servings as we were paying for set menu individually. This was not filling at all and over all no one to serve and take xtra order’s even though if you wanna pay more. I am still giving 2 stars as food was tasty.

One time experience was enough. Booked this restaurant for 5 adults and a baby. However despite 1 week advance booking the table wasn’t ready when we arrived there and was given a table with very tight space which made it difficult with the baby. We asked to give us a bigger table but was told that bigger tables were booked for another larger group. However we were there for almost 2 hours and that table was still idle. So we asked to add more tables so theres more space to sit comfortably. However the attitude of the manager wasn’t too nice. Overall food was really good.

I had the most exquisite meal here post first lockdown. The dishes were so complimentary with one another and our waiter recommended everything! I couldn’t recommend Cassia enough!

Very unprofessional reservation service. I have received an email for potential reservation on 11/11/20 . Upon me replying a number of times no one has reached back to us. Their phone number is always on voicemail which no one replies to either. They don’t have a courtesy to call me and confirm or not confirm the booking though they have my contact details. By the way I am talking a minimum spend of a $1000 at the table. I would happily take my team to a more professional restaurant if they don’t value their customer’s time and plans.

Amazing food, amazing service! I highly recommend this place 10/10 Food was beautiful and the waiter was so helpful, even recommended me a wine which was perfect with the meal. There are no bad things about my experience at Amano. I can’t wait to go back.

Our dinning experience at Casia was very good. Must appreciate and acknowledge Jels [who minded our table] was excellent. Thank you Jels for making us comfortable. The food was good. It would have been good to know which part of India the menu represented. May I please request you to replace the metal crinkly chairs that are place at the corner tables. The scratching noise was uncomfortable.

I had amazing customer service when trying to book a table for 4 on a Thurs night so was looking forward to a promising meal. All our cocktails tasted of spice though only x1 had stated spice in the ingredients list. For starters we ordered the Waygu Croquettes and Crayfish Beetroot Cones. The waygu was tasty but sadly there was no taste/flavour/texture of crayfish or beetroot in our second dish. We mentioned this to the waitress who said she would give the chef our feedback. 😒 For the small plates we had the Carrots, Tandoori Fish and Beef. With much sadness i have to say the best dish here was the carrots 🥕 . The fish was overcooked and while the beef itself was nice, the spinach sauce it was served in was lackluster. Then we had the big plates of their signature lamb shik kebabs, caramelized duck and pork belly. Lamb was wonderful, sadly the duck and pork was such a clash of flavors within each dish that it left me confused. The garlic Naan and rice as sides were good. The waitress, while polite, was cold and standoffish. We didn't bother with dessert.

Love this place! One of the best in Knoxville. Never gotten something I didn't like from here. Food is always hot. My favorite is their tandoori chicken!

Divine, just perpetually divine, and the level of spice matched up with expectations. Some places will just overload your senses, but here was somewhere where medium spice was comparatively spicier than mild and less so than that of the hot. Which was excellent at all 3. That the level of vegan offerings went above and beyond that of normal Indian cuisines was truly special. It takes a deft hand to do both justice.

A couple people and I went here together. We were intimidated as we'd never had Indian cuisine before, but every single thing we were given was amazing. The flavors were intense but in the best way. Definitely spicy; if you like Mexican, you might like Indian as their dishes are known for the spices. At least, that's what I knew prior to going here, and I wasn't disappointed. There was also large serving sizes, plenty for us all to share. Can not recommend enough! The staff was also very nice and polite and quick to bring things, like drink refills. Definitely an experience I want to have again.

Very pleasing and polite staff. The tandoori chicken was hot off the oven and made very tender. The onions with it were also splendid. I had a blast eating the spinach saag and the black daal; both were savory and calming. Five stars for sure. Best Indian food in K Town.

We are big fans of Indian food and just moved to Knoxville a few months ago. We tried Sitar hoping to find a good place we can regularly go to. We also love spicy food so we usually get medium. The amount of spice was unbearable. It was spicier than 10 if that's even possible. We were both sweating profusely as we tried to get through the first couple of bites. Definitely get it mild and spice it at home. not

I eat here often, food and service are amazing. One time I mistakenly picked up the wrong order (misremembered the order number) and didn’t realize until I got home. They called me to refund me for the original order, really amazing management.

The flavors are absolutely delicious! Tender pieces of chicken and lamb in our dishes. The rice was perfect. The vegetable samosas were very good and I loved all the delicious sauces. The portions are great for sharing!! I almost ordered two garlic naan and two samosas but one order is each was more than enough for two. The entrees were good for sharing too!! Delicious!!!

This is hands down one of our favorite restaurants in Knoxville. On top of all the food being amazing and the owner being super nice, they make the best lamb rogan Josh I've ever had. They've reopened their drive through window to make take out orders even easier.

Great flavors. The chutneys and raita are drinkable. I just had the chicken sagwala and the naan with coconut and raisins. Lord have mercy. A kaleidoscope of ecstatic reactions cycled over my face as I indulged in each part of the meal, what a delight. It's as if the Indian grandmother I never had had cooked this meal for me with love. I want to kiss the hands that made this

This was SOOOOOO GOOD!! Sometimes, you can't know how spicy something's going to be. But this restaurant does the spice so well. I, personally, can't handle spiciness well, but their food isn't just about the spicy. Its about the flavor. And, my guy, the flavor is incredible!!

Worst experience and Bad taste of Indian food . I have guest at my home and I order from this restaurant . I order Indian spicy and they send me mild and no Taste at all. It’s really embarrassing moment for me because I have a guest at my home and the food is not delicious at all. The nan is cold and not fresh at all . Sorry to say but this is my last order from you guys.

While the food was good the experience due to service was so bad I could never recommend this place. We waited 1 hour literally for our food and then only mine came and we had to wait for my friends food. Then the bread didn’t come so we waited for the bread. Then they were going to bring rice but it never came. Totally ruined our experience and I cannot remember the food because I only remember how horrible the service was!

Server didn't bring all of the food that went with the meal! When I asked where the rest of the food was he pretended he didn't understand me. Totally disappointed! I expected better quality of service than this !!!

I stopped by to order a take away. I had to wait in my car for over an hour. Food was good, even though I paid for a side that I did not order, I still paid for it, even though, I was offered a pay back for it. Not so much impressed. I preferred that I was a time frame for my wait... in my car.

Best Indian food I've ever had. Nicer looking Indian food restaurants fall short on food quality compared to Sitar. Update: I brought a consultant here who lives in India (work dinner). He told me that he has tried "Indian Food" all over the US; Washington DC, New York, California etc. but this was the best Indian Food he has ever tried outside of India & it remined him of his mom's cooking.

The malabar fish curry was perfect. Definitely try the laal mass croquettes. The cocktails are perfect accompaniment thank you for the beautiful touch of the chocolate mousse for the birthday girl. Loved it. Can’t wait to be back

Had the pleasure of dining in the private room tonight. Our German hostess Jasmine (apologies if I got your name wrong) was one of the best hosts I have experienced in Auckland. Her attention to detail and knowledge of the restaurant was second to none. The set menu was plentiful and beautiful as one would expect from a restaurant run by Sid. If you get along to Cassia, I hope you get the incredible Jasmine as your host. She will make your night! Thank you thank you!

Great take on Indian food in a fine dining style. The carrot dish they had on offer was truly amazing - to be praising of all things a carrot dish (and all the vege dishes actually) in particular on a review shows how good they are. The service can be a bit slow, ordered a glass of wine and had to wait over ten minutes to get it. Also, first courses came flying out and then had to wait close to 40 minutes between the later courses. Lucky the food was so good I looked past that as best I could. The set menu also had nothing unique that wasn’t on the regular menu, and the cost was essentially the same so you’re better off ordering what you want in my opinion and going from there. Despite those quirks I would not hesitate in returning!

5 stars for the food and service: I have been to their Sidart too, but Cassia has the right amount of Indian spice and element in their food. Green curry beef brisket and the carrot (I am surprised too) are my favorite. Took the drink advice from the lovely tall staff, the cocktails are so nice
