The first thing I would like to point out is that people posting all these negative reviews have no clue what they are talking about. I have worked in restaurants and visit plenty of restaurants on a routine basis. It’s one of my top suggestions for people to try Indian food at its best. Look at those beautiful colors and those delicious ingredients. The food tastes better than it looks. Unlike other restaurants, I don’t leave feeling like garbage because the food here is made with high quality ingredients. If I were to open a restaurant, I would take Pondicheri as an inspiration, unlike others in this area that consider themselves pioneers in Indian cooking while all they are doing is recycling the same old garbage. Definitely ask for Jacob. You will have a great time with him and his excellent recommendations and conversation.

came in during happy hour. 5$ beer was great! as for the meal, the appetizers hit it out of the park and were my favorite. the pani puri was delicious, and the samosas were crunchy and great. the sweet potato samosa is my biggest recommendation. the butter chicken curry could have been seasoned more as a preference, heavy tomato taste. the frankie was good too, originally my fries did not come with a sauce but luckily the waiter noticed and came back quickly with the sauce. the chai pie was good. great service and good food.

Came out for dinner on a Saturday date night and it didn’t disappoint. Ordered two Thalis - a tapas style platter of small dishes. All the flavors worked together wonderfully and by the end we were full but not stuffed. Great atmosphere as well. Strongly recommend for upscale and sophisticated Indian cuisine

The happy hour at this place is great but brunch not so much. Having been to this place for brunch, lunch, dinner and happy hour - all menus except for the happy hour. Service was horrible and it took forever to get someone to clean the tables or take away dirty plates and food took way longer (almost 45mins) than it should The food is average and not worth the price you pay. $5 for a samosa that tastes like turmeric served with marinara sauce. The sambhar was actually tasty but was very thick. While the masala eggs were good the upma lacked flavor and could do with a bit more of salt and spices. Rest of the plates were average at best.

One of the best Indian fusion food Restaurant in Houston. It has wide variety of Indian food. Must try - Chickfu lettuce wrap / curry. Something different & innovative dish. Cocktails are amazing too. The restaurant has bakery class as well.

I don't really know why I've never been to this restaurant before because it's been on my list for a while now. This is a must visit place with some amazing Indian food. We shared some samosas, the sweet potato one was so delicious!! I ordered a plate called the Texan, it had a variety of things on it including garlic naan, potatoes, lamb, stewed eggplant and lamb, a salad and butter chicken. I could not stop eating. I also got a couple of cocktails one called the blueberry sparkle and another one I can't remember the name... I was so stuffed I could not eat dessert but I got the Crack ball to the home. It is like a bite sized truffle. I will definitely be back!

I cannot say enough great things about this place. It’s literally a Houston staple!! The service is impeccable and the environment is absolutely a delight. Went this morning for chai and it was packed by the time I left so it’s very popular and for a good reason!!

The food is a creative vision of South Asian cuisine served in an upscale neighborhood restaurant. Trendy but casual. Kid friendly. Good sized helpings. Takes time for the food to be served as it is very clearly made fresh to order but the drinks menu helps to pass the wait time! Friendly staff. We will definitely be going again.

Hands down best indian fusion restaurant in Houston! Every time I go to Houston, I make a trip to this place to eat something whatever time of the day it is :) . The chef has elevated the indian cuisine and really enhanced the flavors while still maintaining the roots of the cuisine. Look at the menu it changes as chef is experimenting on deconstructing and reconstructing various foods. Look at the pictures, just looks so delicious, flavors are amazing to say the least! If you are searching for a bite to eat and in the neighborhood, it is a must visit

LOVED IT! I was impressed with the flavors in the dishes and the creative fusions implemented. Service was on point. It's the best Indian restaurant I've been to outside of in India itself! Helpful? Give a Thumbs up and join my followers.

Tried this place out for the first time on Saturday at a friend's recommendation. The food was SO GOOD. There's so much flavor and we received such a generous portion. We ordered the Lamb Ribs for 2 and I would definitely get it again. I even tried one of their cocktails and couldn't be more please.

Good food and service. Went with a few coworkers to this place. It’s a small venue but they have some good options. We had the pomegranate pani poori, earth thali, butter chicken, rose lassie, golden mule, and the honey blues cocktail. I would definitely recommend the pani pokey and the honey blues cocktail. Both are very refreshing. The butter chicken wasn’t as flavorful as my normal but the creamy fenugreek and tomato garam masala was delicious. There didn’t seems to be to many parking spots and they are metered parking.

Pondicheri is a modern Indian restaurant located in the River Oaks district of Houston. It is known for its creative takes on traditional Indian dishes, as well as its vibrant atmosphere and friendly service. I recently visited Pondicheri and tried the following dishes: Appetizer: Mango pani puri Entrees: Saag paneer and stuffed mushrooms Dessert: Lychee-based cocktail The mango pani puri was a flavorful appetizer but a little too sweet. The saag paneer was hearty and satisfying, and the stuffed mushrooms were cooked perfectly. The lychee-based cocktail was sweet and refreshing, Overall, I had a great experience at Pondicheri and would definitely recommend trying Pondicheri once.

We had a great time there. Arrived while happy hour was going on... good drink specials. All the cocktails we tried were great. Service was fun and totally helpful - our waiter had great command of the menu. Really nice to see vegetarian and vegan options marked on the menu. Lots of choices for all dietary types. All dishes were very inventive... The flash fried okra appetizer was so good, as were other appetizers. For main dishes... I'd say we liked about 1/2 the dishes, other 1/2 were just ok. But still give props for trying the new twists on Indian food.

The place was unique. Loved the atmosphere. Our waiter tried to meet all my dietary restrictions and was very kind. Food was fresh and flavorful. My husband had the sayel lamb and I had shrimp kebabs with a gluten free naan that was absolutely delicious. We ordered hot herbal tea that were soothing and delicious and made with fresh herbs.

Kinda pricey. The tandoori chicken wings are SPICY! Beware!!! What kind of pepper were used? Omg!! The butter chicken and the lamb were good. Skip the paneer (I’m partial to paneer anyway) and the naan(was too thin and had too much fennel, I expected a more buttery garlicky taste). The paratha was ok- was more of a chapati though but still was better than the naan. We liked the drinks and they photograph well.

I had a layover in Houston, therefore I tried Pondicheri, and I must say lots of good veggie option, and it seems people were enjoying the non-veggie options as well. Definitely a 10+ in my book.

My husband and I have been eating at Pondichori’s for a few years now. It’s been consistently excellent. We are vegetarian. They have a lot of options. We love all of them but I especially love the chili lettuce wraps and the vegetarian Frankie. Their cookies are delicious too. The Chili cookie that’s a spicy chocolate chip cookie is my favorite.

I am never disappointed with the quality of the food and the interesting spin on Indian food here. I love the use of fresh ingredients and they have good outdoor seating during covid times. Try the Thalis which I recommend especially the vegetarian options are great.

The most disappointed turn around on the flavors and menu options, specially for to go orders. The combination of flavors make lentils and parathas nonedible (to mention some examples). I am very sad because this was my favorite Indian restaurant for years. The pandemic has really impacted Pondicheri Restaurant, not only on the food flavors but on the overpricing of this non favorable experience. If you want to remember some nice flavors and the positive experience from years before just try the bake lab which remains more consistent with the posh Indian cuisine that Pondi used to promote. Sorry for this review!

I have been dining at Pondicheri since I moved to Houston in late 2012. It’s the most unique fusion Indian restaurant I’ve ever come across. If you’re Indian and looking for classic Indian food that you’re used to back home (like in the Mahatma Gandhi District of the Hillcroft area of Houston), this is not the place for you. It’s located in the West Ave luxury apartment complex, and there’s a private parking garage nearby with free parking. They have indoor seating and a large outdoor patio seating area if you’re trying to socially distance. If coming for food, the first floor provides full meals, but if you’re looking to chill and grab a coffee, the Pondicheri Bake Lab on the second floor is the place to go with a completely different vibe. I love to get a thali platter when going to Pondicheri since you can eat the most variety within one plate. I usually order the Morning Thali Platter for $15 which comes with uppma, sambar, saag, potato cake, fried egg, carrot paratha, and lamb keema. This is all very delicious. Most Indian people will say Pondicheri is too expensive and doesn’t taste “authentic.” Like I mentioned, go to the Mahatma Gandhi District if you’re looking for classic Indian food. Pondicheri is upscale Indian food and catered to all demographics to enjoy. I highly recommend this place!

Went here for a dinner with a friend and everything was great! The service was smooth and everyone I came in contact with were generous and eager to help. We shared the Sindhi Pakora Chat and lettuce wraps for the appetizer. For main course I had Frankies carrot roti wrap with the cauliflower and chikfu. My friend had the aviyal curry which was my other choice. We shared them as well and both were flavorful and satisfying. I had the Shakti Tisane (fresh herbal tea) after dinner which was aromatic and a delightful ending. Next time I go, I'll try the chai pie. Can't wait.

Main restaurant is downstairs and a bakery/cafe is located upstairs. This modern Indian food restaurant was a nice surprise. Warm and inviting atmosphere with great music selection. They also offer patio seating. There is also a bar inside the restaurant. The food was bursting with flavor and every dish was a hit. We will definitely be back for more.

I really enjoyed the food, particularly the Summer Korma. I had acidity the whole day and needed something alkaline for dinner, and this place had healthy options on the menu for most situations. What’s quite unique here, though, is the wall full of inspiring quotes. I enjoyed reading them while waiting to get seated.

First thing It’s not the typical indian restaurant. Loved it’s beautiful ambience and location. Healthy food. But their thalis are utter waste as they don’t have combinations in them. i tried weekend special aaram thali it had veg market curry very tasty but no rice or roti to go with. It came with paneer parata which actually needed a good achar but that was not there. It came with butter chicken n okra i was clueless y and what should i eat it with?? I loved their rose ladoo, mango lassi and their desserts like kulfi, guava ice cream. Something’s r hit n some r completely a miss.

Went here with a group of colleagues on a weekday for early dinner. They serve elevated Indian or fusion Indian food. The place was moderately full. The ambiance and the service were great! We ordered the masala chai, mango lassi, and jardin for beverages. The masala chai was underwhelming and wasn't as flavorful as you would expect for a cup of hot spiced Indian tea. The jardin was a mildly spicy refreshing mocktail and the mango lassi was also fresh, rich and refreshing. For appetizers we ordered the pakoras, mango paani puri and mushroom salad. The pakoras were crispy and fresh, nothing out of the world. The paani puri was interesting with the mango paani, but I prefer traditional paani puri over this one. The dressing on the mushroom salad was really good. For the entrees we ordered the butter chicken, saag paneer both of which were bland and underwhelming. I would have personally appreciated more flavor on these classics. The summer korma and fish curry were really flavorful. The breads - dosa and makai roti - that came with the curries were nice, light and fresh. For desserts we ordered the kulfi (one plate has 3 pieces) and the chocolate cake. The cake was really rich and the chocolate ganache balanced out the olive oil and almond flavors. The kulfi which is a frozen dessert (served like an ice cream bar) made from condensed milk, dried nuts, saffron etc. was really rich and flavorful and a perfect end to our meal. Would I go here again? Maybe, but I would order only a select few items like the fish curry, summer korma and the desserts.

Very nice experience here. We went without a reservation but didn’t have any issues getting a table. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and offered us a lot of suggestions. I ordered the Texan thali since it gave me a chance to try a few different dishes. I enjoyed it, although was stuffed by the end and couldn’t even finish it. It was quite different that the butter chicken had a green chutney on top. Similarly, the lamb had some yogurt on top. I would say the shrimp was my favourite of all the dishes. The naan was cooked really well. Interestingly, the naan was made out of whole wheat instead of all purpose flour. For dessert, we got a saffron cheesecake to share. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend that. Our server did mention that the chocolate cake is very popular, but it seemed weird to get that at an Indian restaurant (since there wasn’t anything Indian about it). They also have a bakery at the front which has some delectable looking treats. I got an assortment of cookies and shortbread to take home. I would recommend their bakery section! Overall was a great experience and I’d love to go back here if I’m in Houston again.

All around amazing dining experience. I am not a picky eater and I have no food allergies. It was a first time trying this particular type of salad and a Lamb Burger. Recommended by a new friend I made here in Houston and I will definitely be revisiting. Mildly busy in the evening but the waiter made sure to meet our needs and expectations in a timely manner. Very attentive and professional. I would recommend this restaurant to any group size of adults or even a solo outing. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

Met a colleague for lunch. Ordered at the counter, with food delivered to our shady patio table. The food was brought quickly and was very colorful and nicely presented. I had a vegan dish: red millet/rice/lentil dosa, with sauteed greens, chutney, avocado. Tumeric soup. Potato cake. The dosa was light and the greens perfectly cooked and seasoned. The chutney was sweet, although I didn't notice any pumpkin seeds. (small). My friend had the Workman thali, with aviyal, saag, marianated greens & carrot roti. Tumeric soup.

Creative take on Indian food with a great interior atmosphere and awesome cocktail drinks. Food isn't authentic Indian, but the flavors are done well and very savory. Been a customer for years and I always make sure to stop by the restaurant whenever I visit Houston. Customer service can be spotty at times, but they always make up in the food and drinks!

Absolutely delicious! They were doing takeout and patio dining, we decided to sit outside. Got the Green Dosa and Texan Thali(like a sampler platter), a great mix of flavors, some elements of the Thali were pretty spicy, but it just kept me wanting to come back for more. A sizable portion for two people. Then followed it with the gluten free almond chocolate cake which was so amazing we ate the whole thing and could barely walk afterwards.. They also have a little market area with chutneys and other food items in the front. Highly recommend!

Brilliant take on Indian food. Every Indian dish is created with a twist and they are spot on with the flavors. Their menu changes frequently. Have tried the Earth thali, Pav Bhaji, Mumbai Toast, Pakoras, Pepper and Plum salad and all the drinks. Every dish turned out to be better than the previous one. Highly recommend.

I went there. The food is alright. The waiter didn’t remember anyones orders. Missed a lot of the items. At the end of the meal, we all had to split the bill because he didn’t know who ordered what. I had to pay $30 bucks even though I just ordered an entree. Food is overpriced for the taste. Took FOREVER to get the food. Just over all mismanagement is what makes it so terrible. The food isn’t worth it.

Very average Indian food. We had Avial and Egg dosa. Expensive for the quality. If you want real Indian food go to a real Indian restaurant in Sugarland.

  • 4/5 Ajit V. 3 years ago on Google
Interesting Indian restaurant with some fusion items on the menu. The staff is friendly and service, prompt. We had the Vishnu platter and the pickle pizza with Shishito peppers. The platter was decent but if you want a more authentic South Indian dosa experience, go to Hillcroft ( little India). The pizza was unique and worth checking out - it was tangy. Outdoor seating available. Ample free parking in the attached lot.

My family and I have been coming to Pondicheri every Sunday and some days during the week since 2012. There is something about Pondicheri that is hard to describe - it’s like home away from home. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is comfortable, and the bake lab upstairs has the best desserts in Houston. But one of the reasons it is so special to us is the people who work here - Juan, Stephen, Armando, James, Francisco and all others we haven’t named. They welcome us each time with smiles, humor, and enthusiasm; they know what we like to eat; and they are kind and funny. Pondicheri is truly fortunate to have them! We will always wish these people happiness and success in everything they do. The Makris Family.

Guys, in this photo is $33 of Saag Paneer and Seafood Stew next to a set of keys. It tasted good, but 15$ of saag paneer that's smaller than my hand and had literally 2 pieces of cheese in it.. It is not even kinda filled and you can see from the cup we didn't scoop any out. Smelled great on the car ride home and we were excited to eat, but $40+ after tip and this was depressing.

  • 2/5 Adrian R. 3 years ago on Google
Food wasn’t worth the price. Flavor was good. For a dine-in experience it might be worth it, but it did not translate well to take-out. Imagine paying $18 for the small paper pint cup on the left (photo), and $16 for the right. Also there was a 5% service fee for all take-out orders.

This isn’t Indian food from any angle. Just the India inspired names and spices, I ordered Pav Bhaji and it was Masala mixed vegetable with excessive turmeric and oil, bread that was nowhere close to a Pav. Ghee toast was a disappointment as neither ghee was ghee not the toast was toast!! Madras coffee was nowhere close to it. Yes but orange juice was delicious

Laid back spot, free garage parking, with outside seating. The lunch and all day breakfast menu will keep you on your toes just make sure you palate and mind is open to some unique and wonderful combinations, like the pea flour fried chicken! The heat on this dish, from the spices, creep up and hold on like a warm hug. Make sure a glass of the crazy fresh OJ is nearby to offset the heat if a mild level is more to your liking. I had been here before and had forgotten until today, how much fun this menu is!

Delicious food, portions are very filling and prices reasonable. On the top you get free tea, water and cooling breeze (after 6pm). Take your other half or just reward yourself.

Staff is always super even when they have a full house. Quick, helpful, and friendly service. The bill was fair for the quality of food. They have a lot of positive reviews for a reason.

The ambience is colorful and vibrant. The food is healthy and delicious. Although, it’s an americanized version of the Indian food you get here and not a typical one.

This place has delicious Indian food. It also is a great place to sit outside any time of day and enjoy a Pondilatte. It is a huge cup latte with simple syrup. It is a drink so delightful that it warms your soul.

First time going and what an experience!! The food was delicious, exquisite and it had that perfect balance of flavors. Just perfect!! The area is nice and Everything looks clean. They have vegetarian options and a whole menu for beverages. I Highly recommend it!!

The lambchop was phenomenal, so tasty! Everything else was just ok. To my fault we did arrive 20 minutes before closing so I'd be will to give them another shot. But I grew up with an indian best friend and the flavor profile could have been better. They get creative with different flavors, but if you are wanting an authentic taste there are other options in Houston that are better.

Had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant. We ordered lush lassi in cocktail & it was amazing. Their ruby sour was also very good. Sindhi pakora was very oily & very disappointing. I recommend their Citrus & paneer salad, was awesome. Fenugreek fish was delicious though their texan thali was okay. Chickfu curry was okay. Portion size quite reasonable though overall an expensive place.

Some interesting takes on traditional Indian dishes. I was happy with my sandwich (Frankie) and the masala fries that I was served. The prices were reasonable the food was good. Check this place out if you want something modern or different from your standard Indian dishes.

Nice location, beautiful physical setting but pathetic food. If you really know about good quality enrich tasty food never visit the place. I ordered fresh orange juice which was good. salad looked and tasted good too. The lamb was salty, not fresh and bad tasted. Cauliflower was half cooked, lentils were salty and rice were very tasteless. Naan had pathetic yellow color added in it. Over the top I got sick after eating the food. It was such a disappointment. Will never recommend it to anyone. Food is little pricey and completely rubbish.

Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in a long time! The coconut crab was definitely the highlight of the night. From the mulled wine to the frankies everything was delicious! I've never had mango and coconut lassi before, but the lush lassi tasted like I was eating a mango mousse cake with coconut flakes. I loved the earth thalis, it was perfect for trying multiple things without the overwhelming portion size. The mulled wine hit the spot with it being cold outside. Overall amazing experience! The service was top notch!

I visited pondicheri today after reading reviews of the restaurant. I ordered pomegranate pani puri and the Vishnu thali. Coming to the pani puri, the puris were very hard and shallow. It really took some effort to chew the puris! The pani was tasty though and overall, it brought me back to the gol gappe which we get off the street in India. The thali was quite nice, I enjoyed the different gravies offered, the cutlet seemed a little strange to my taste though. The only thing I didn't like about it was how it was so busy - I wish the waiters could pay more attention as to when the customer is ready to order. The more disappointing thing was I had purposely left my water bottle and a bag on my table when I went to use the restroom (so they didn't think there was nobody seated there), only to come back to find they had cleared my table and bag and thrown away the water bottle. I mean, are you in that much of a hurry to seat other customers???

My favorite Indian restaurant. Another delicious meal. ..my first since I went fully vegan. Pondicheri has vegan and gf options that are crave worthy, even for an omnivore. They had gf vegan dessert. I had a lovely meal and was fully satisfied. I will have to grab a dessert the next time I am in town.

It was pretty good. Based on the ratings and recommendations I entered with high expectations, but I was not blown away. The prices seemed a bit steep for what you get at comparable Indian restaurants.

Cant stop thinking about their lamb chops! Truely amazing and would definitely recommend them along with the rosa rita cocktail and coconut crab! Yum! Our server (whom I unfortunately didnt get her name) was super sweet and attentive! Great experience all around!

Ordered delivery - ordering was easy and delivery costs low, but food was a bit disappointing. Mango lassi tasted mostly of bland cream. $5 order of veggie samosa was a single, small, mediocre samosa. Naan wasn’t particularly good. Butter chicken was very tasty, chickfu was good, and the brussel sprouts served with the chickfu were fantastic, but overall won’t be ordering again.

Fancy Indian place to eat. We ordered pani puri which was good. Chili panner and veggie Frankie were good too. Desi fries were amazing and if I ever go back it would be for fries! Chicken Frankie, Saag and tea were average!

    Always a treat. Remarkable flavors.

  • 3/5 Omar G. 3 years ago on Google
Please note this review is strictly based on their dessert and bakery menu and not their main dishes: Favorite item - Chai Pie. A unique pie that has the texture of a pumpkin pie but with aromatic chai flavors. Truly fun experience of both American and Indian flavors. Another great dessert is the orange pecan cookie. Strong aroma, zest taste but with the expectation of a thick bakery cookie. Other items that were on the menu were the avocado lime tart, biscuit cookies, panna cotta, and kulfi. Everything here felt very average. Nothing particularly amazed me about these dishes. For the incredible high price, the dishes underwhelmed me. Will consider visiting again to try their main dishes.

Amazing! The reviews don't do this place justice. Everything was pure deliciousness, perfectly priced, and the perfect serving size to get you full. Thalis on the patio is just a great variety! We had the breakfast and I cannot rave enough about it! We also had the Mumbai toast and that was just perfect in every way. 10 out of 10, would eat again!

What a great place! The ambiance is casual, the place is modern and has a traditional touch. The food is AMAZINGGG we had the cauliflower curry and the chikfu (both vegetarian options) and we were happy to find they have a bunch of options for us vegetarian people! The drinks were also great! We’ll be coming back soon.

Omg...my brother just introduced me to this amazing Indian restaurant. It was clean and delicious dishes and the service was excellent. I had the butter chicken and I'm not exactly sure what my brother ate...but it was all delicious. On the way out we both bought our spouses some desserts. My pictures show the different foods we ordered...yummers! Seriously, I love this place! I wish they had a location closer to League city.

I really loved this place. I took the chickfu curry and it was really tasty. Very healthy and fresh food. I loved the ambience of the resteraunt and the chocolate almond cake was amazing. Went with a couple other people and they didn’t particularly like the food as much as me but they still had positive reviews. Definitely would come back.

Not as good as it used to be but still tasty. My mom and I went for dinner on a Saturday night and it would have been a really long wait because we didn’t make a reservation but we were able to sit at the bar and order immediately. We had the pumpkin samosas and butter chicken. I also had a golden latte to drink. The samosas were the perfect texture and were spicy on the inside. I didn’t get as many as the flavors as I had hoped with my mouth burning. The butter chicken was pretty good as well but not as rich in flavor as I remember it being.

Bland Food, unclean and bad service. The Delhi chat we ate was sour to the point where we could not eat it. Hair in dal part of aaram thali. Unclean place we sat near the kitchen and lost appetite by just looking at the kitchen and the chaos. We complained and the server brought another server after 5 mins and they just said we will correct go forward. Please taste your own food, taste your chutney’s and Dahi to check if it’s at least edible before serving. And we spend above $100 to only go buy food at another place. Never going back.
